The way open and closed eyes are used in Epic is so interesting to me, because yeah there is the 'The Underworld' and 'Love in Paradise' parallel, but it already starts in 'Just a Man' when Odysseus tells the infant:

"Close your eyes and spare yourself the view How could I hurt you?"

In that moment, he believes that if Hector's son just closes his eyes, he won't witness this horrible thing Odysseus is about to do to him, that he can be shielded from all the bad Odysseus has done.

So, in Odysseus mind the closing of eyes is a reprieve of the horrors, which is interesting when he comes to Aeolus with the wind bag. Specifically, Aeolus in 'Keep Your Friends Close' telling him:

"Just keep your eyes open."

This kind of echoes that messaging of him having to do this hard thing - stay awake so the wind bag doesn't get opened and he doesn't have to kill his crew - and then he'll be home. He has to do the hard thing, witness it and then he'll be home. The moment, he takes a reprieve from witnessing the bad, it goes wrong. Then we get to 'The Underworld' where we get:

"All I hear are screams, every time I dare to close my eyes"

Odysseus can't get that reprieve of closing his eyes anymore, he tries to look away from all the bad that has happened, the bad he's done, but he can't escape it anymore, it follows him every time he even dares to think of turning away from his past, his actions.

Which to me makes 'Love in Paradise' all the more horrifying, because then we get Odysseus on the edge of the cliff, saying:

"Let me close my eyes"

He's begging to escape having to witness the bad that is happening to him. He knows that closing his eyes won't let him escape his own actions, that he'll still hear the screams, but he's still desperate to close his eyes. He is now the infant, wanting to spare himself the view of what is being done to him. He would much rather be held company by his own actions, than Calypso's. And that is just terrifying to me.

esmerelda narrowed her eyes at them on the dance floor, swaying with someone else directly in her line of vision without a single care in the world or so it appeared. she hadn't even planned on seeing them tonight, but of course, they were at the same club. the universe loved playing tricks on her and bringing them together at the most inopportune moments. taking a shot of tequila, she did a hair toss of her long raven waves before spotting some random eligible-looking bachelor type - tall, dark and handsome, and just what she needed to get the other out of her mind. after all, it's not like they were together. far be it for them to do anything but hook up and call each other 'friends'. what a joke. taking the stranger's hand, she led him to the dance floor, intentionally brushing elbows with her casual hookup and letting their eyes meet so they knew she was there, too.

Day 4: Apple Cider

The brunch between his family and she and her dad was... Needed, sure but it felt a little to taxing on the mind. Fun but not exactly the ideal way to spend time with her boyfriend. In the midst an offer was made, that the two of them have a separate date; away from the drama, from their parents and the messiness between everyone and her mother. And, honestly, it wasn't a bad idea at all.

She had invited him over to her place, opting that it'd be much quieter than going out to eat. The place had been scrubbed clean, blankets fresh out the dryer and a line of movies perfect for the changing seasons. She had been dutifully working in her kitchen, dressed cozily in a crocheted sweater and plain pair of shorts, eagerly awaiting for when her boyfriend would arrive.

today is just one of many days where kokichi's boredom reaches a peak. it's gotten to the point where it's absolutely unbearable. he feels like he'll just die from it! he won't, of course, but that's just one of many things that he loves to overdramatize.

most of his day has been spent wandering around, sort of observing what the others on the schoolgrounds have been up to. really, he's just looking for someone that'll be the most fun to mess with. who has the biggest reactions to his antics, who's the most likely to stave off his boredom with some 'interesting' conversation topics...

unfortunately, he's coming up with blanks. mostly in part due to the fact that it's unfair for him to judge who can tolerate him when they all refuse to get near him. but, not everyone's like that, right?

...ah! that gives him the perfect idea actually.

he's giggling to himself as he makes the trip back inside. there's only one person who he didn't see standing around, talking about whatever and doing what was most definitely something boring. and trying to get under their skin was going to be the most fun.

he's not trying to hide his presence when he heads back inside, almost trying to ensure that his footfalls were loud and sure to draw attention. that's not unusual of him either; his presence as a whole demanded others' eyes to be on him. the loudest stomps of his feet are right outside one of the research lab doors.

and the next loudest noises come from him slamming open the door and yelling.

kokichi whines like a child as his expression morphs from the cheery look of before to the usual glossy-eyed look he put on whenever he wanted something. he even sniffles and wipes his eyes as he walks into the room, not caring enough to ask permission to enter. not that he was going to ask anyways; he did practically kick open the door.

Oh he was going to punish her later all right. Who knew that being so close to popping at any day now, she'd still have so much energy to get up to mischief.

When the blonde stood up and announced that she was going to retire early for the night due to being "exhausted by her state", Eli quickly made up an excuse that he had a sudden urgent international conference video call that he had to take in his room. Thus being the "gentleman" that he appeared to be, he made a show of helping walk Nathalie back to her room. The moment they were in the elevator though, he pushed her against the wall and growled as he took her hand to place on his tented erection. "Do you know how much you have been torturing me the whole day?? You'll be getting no sleep, tonight, missy. I don't care even if you're 40 weeks along," he warned, his eyes so dark with raging lust.

I am shaken and filled with grief. There was a school shooting at Campus Risbergska in Örebro, Sweden yesterday. We're all in shock.
