There is a soft knock on the door of Jon's office when he gets to work. From within his office.

Jon jolts, surprised, immediately starting feeling lightheaded from the rising heartbeat. The door was definitely locked—or was it?—and none of his colleagues would come to work so early anyway. If not them, then... who? His thoughts race to the worst, as they always do—Mr. Spider. Though, considering that the knock came at him, does it mean that now Jon himself, metaphorically, is Mr. Spider now? But why would it come from inside of his lair? And this isn't really a metaphor—this is just something that is currently happening. Hm. Well, maybe that wasn't a very wise thought.

Still, it does not explain anything. He doesn't feel... threatened, though. Be it his intuition, or passive knowledge from the Eye, or plain denial of his mortality, but it does not feel like he'll get killed as soon as he opens the door.

So that is what he does. He could've turned around and went home, could've asked someone else to go with him, could've knocked back, for God's sake. But he is curious.

Jon turns the key once, listening to any changes inside, then pulls the door open just enough to peek inside—he doesn't come in yet.

actually hate the ressie wiki for adding ada's falsified backstory from the umbrella chronicles novelization to her wiki page because it claims 'the validity of this account is questionable', leaving people who are otherwise unfamiliar with the franchise's lore who naturally peruse the wiki to assume there's a possibility ada isn't lying through her teeth in the novel, or that there's a nugget of truth hidden in her account, despite it being clearly stated otherwise pretty early on. after ada is done reciting facts about the reunification of vietnam & the treatment of the hoa people to leon the narration states succinctly that 'it had nothing to do with ada or her family in the slightest', without even mentioning the amount of times ada is surprised by how gullible leon is

i'm not even sure why they're treating the novel as a source, other than the absnece of a concrete backstory for ada, but it's like adding the dick valentine master thief background to jill's page. it isn't canon owing to the fact that it contradicts the events of the game, given there is no rendition of RE2, not even the darkside chronicles' own retelling, where ada gives her backstory upon first meeting leon in the parking garage. while the wiki does make note of two pieces of information which are true to the novel's version of ada, as they are told through ada's own thoughts about her mission in raccoon city & her work with wesker, that being the migrant workers who died because of her spreading pesticide on a sweet potato farm + her rising through the ranks of a chinese-american criminal syndicate who was crushed by the FBI, ada almost getting caught but being noticed by wesker & given the job to spy on umbrella right after, i feel like whoever's editing her wiki page didn't read the novel all the way through because they don't mention the most insane part of the whole thing, which is that ada was present for the khmer rouge in cambodia & the rwandan genocide

these aren't things i consider in my portrayal both because there's only so much real world suffering in relation to resident evil i wanna discuss on this blog, the war on terror is already so horrible that i am tiptoeing around it sometimes for the sake of not just going on about how much i hate the united states of america, & that these are narrative elements meant to show us how prepared & ready ada was for the outbreak in raccoon city which contradicts my own portrayal & both versions of RE2 where she is very much flying by the skin of her teeth clinging to desperate manipulations & leon's gullibility to make it through alive & finish her mission. it doesn't make any sense for ada to go into raccoon city having been witnesses to this amount of cruelty already, but its also a little strange to equate a fictional zombie outbreak to horrible things that have happened throughout history

INTRODUCING HITOMI ARAKAWA — a persona oc, adaptable to other verses. hitomi is a student at shujin. when she started her first year at shujin, hitomi was quick to join cheerleading. despite her newfound popularity and rapid climb in the social ladder, no one could get a read on her and many questioned her eagerness to join a club before she had even settled in. girls gossiped that she just wanted attention and boys whispered about her flirting with boys on the sports teams. but no one truly knew anything about hitomi.

when second year rolled around and the new kid joined their class, she uncharacteristically avoided him like the plague. known for her friendliness, most people thought it was because she believed the rumours about the delinquent new student. soon after, whispers about kaneshiro spread throughout the school and hitomi began skipping out on cheerleading practices. it raised questions but she always had an excuse at the reason. the reason hitomi pulled back from her involvement in school was that hitomi’s family was tightly connected to kaneshiro and cheerleading had been her way to recruit more students into kaneshiro’s scheme. it wasn’t something she did of her own will but having been threatened by both her parents and kaneshiro, hitomi thought she had no choice. when she caught wind of kaneshiro being a potential target of the phantom thieves it piqued her interest. she believed it was finally her way out of her parents criminal background that she so hated.

when she saw the photograph of the four students that had stumbled into kaneshiro’s club, hitomi started doing her digging. she confronts them about what they were doing there and tells them that she can give them an insider scoop on kaneshiro if they let her into whatever they’re doing. this leads to hitomi joining the phantom thieves. her confidant card is the aeon confidant, a direct parallel to sae nijima’s role as the judgement persona as they stand on opposite sides of the legal world. her persona is a fallen angel and focuses primarily on her repentance of her and her parents’ crimes. however, even after the phantom thieves defeat kaneshiro, hitomi doesn’t pull out entirely from the criminal underground. her parents begin to maintain a lower profile for a while in fear of arrest and hitomi uses her connections to keep the phantom thieves informed of potential new targets.

the nice thing about living at work being offline for chunks at a time is the people u used to really dislike seeing on the dash (by no one's fault, promise), it doesn't really bother you anymore when you see them pop up as recs or smth. like. neat. lol. it's nice! it's comforting. i feel like I've def moved on from things, its liberating.
