cause i've been seeing everyone insulting writers because they "mischaracterized" a character. remember, it's a FICTIONAL CHARACTER. you're insulting a REAL PERSON. OOC! character is fun too (i got a friend who likes to write them that way and she still ATE), but if that's not your cup of tea then get out (saying this in a kind tone) or write your own fanfic, i guess?

unless they specifically asked, you don’t get to tell a fanfic writer you think they mischaracterized the character by the way. because the second someone writes a fanfic about a character, that character becomes the writer’s own version of the character. canon is only a suggestion, but whether or not an author will follow it / how much of canon an author will take is entirely up to them. you don’t get to stick your nose in their world and tell them “hey this is not to my liking therefore I think you’re doing it wrong” when you can simply leave quietly and move on to something else you may enjoy

Coco is nowhere near Shiki's level when it comes to sewing but she does dabble. Mostly she embroiders or sews little accessories and designs onto pre-made clothes. She can also do quick, simple mending jobs should the need arise. However she won't unless you're a handful of specific people. She doesn't talk about this hobby much unless it's in regards to her fashion as she doesn't want people knowing of the hobby. She thinks if people know she can sew they'll ask her to sew for her and she'll just get annoyed. Sometimes she'll even lie straight to people's faces if they heard she can sew then ask her about it.

This may be a little too rushed, considering that 𝐀 𝐌𝐀𝐍’𝐒 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐈𝐒 𝐓𝐑𝐔𝐋𝐘 𝐀 𝐖𝐑𝐄𝐓𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐃, 𝐖𝐑𝐄𝐓𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 is destined to have eleven (plus one) chapters, but after (re)watching Swan Lake, I got a question drilling my mind... It has been "analyzed" that there are two endings: a good one, where the prince kills the magician and "revives" Odette, or... the bad ending, where Odette's heart breaks when she sees her loved one with another woman, and she jumps off the cliff, drowning, and the prince does the same.

I would like to know... What ending do you plan to give to the "novel" and if this will be linked to the story(･ω･)

if i gotta answer, then i'll be dropping the biggest spoiler of the series lol. but i've already discussed it in this headcanons, so i guess everyone kinda knows about it.

SO! we're going with the tragic ending. odette will be the reflection of the MC (despite MC's struggle to embody her in the beginning) - her naivety, her hope for a man to set her free; to fall in love and be loved. only to see everything taken away from her.

the realization that happy endings don't exist, that once again, her mother was right. god, i really want to write about the complexity of a mother-daughter relationship; about the love you have for her, but at the same time she's the person you hate the most.

however!! there will be some differences between the Swan Lake storyline and MC's reality. her story won't end exactly like odette's, but it's enough for you to know what kind of ending awaits.

>_< now, i imagine ending this fic on a cliffhanger. IDK THO! it's not really decided yet. but, if i end up writing it that way, i'll most likely write a sequel series. while a man's heart is truly a wretched, wretched thing focuses on the omniscient narrator who sides with the MC, the sequel will explain more details from omniscient narrator siding with Simon's perspective!!

Meritocracy is a fairly linear story, where you play as a first-year university student taking their first class in a Philosophy course, whose subject is based on the topic of Argumentations and the concept of merit. You also come across a strangely relevant debate outside of class...

Spoilers ahead. It is recommended to play the game first. The review is based on my understanding/reading of the story.

From the premise, you'd expect an epic discussion about merit - the good, the bad, and the eh - throwing arguments back at your professor, doing the absolute most to get your points across, and coming on top (or failing miserably, because you're just a student). You may even expect a wide-branching path, with choice at each corner, to counter your professor's points... where one wrong choice could lead to your embarrassing defeat...

What you get, however, is a more... muddled and railroad-y approach on that promise. More of a philosophy lecture packaged into a simple interactive form than an player agency-driven gameplay. The promised "battle of wits" is nowhere to be found - as the professor mainly lectures and you listen, or you answer his prompted question before he just leaves the room. The closest thing to an argumented debate I found in the game happened between two unnamed NPC, neither of which require the MC's help - even then, it is more framed as an example of the lecture*. Finally, as you have little space to convince anyone of your idea(s), you end up just trying to convince yourself of your "choices". *the MC even points out they could interject at the start and question the orator, but doesn't which :/ is a shame! It would have made for a fun debate gameplay!

When it even comes to discussing the concept of meritocracy, which is sandwiched between a lecture on ad hominem fallacy and a weird tangent about the Trolley Problem, I found myself wandering where the depth of the philosophical thoughts were. The topic is approached on a very surface level (ooh meritocracy bad because too much expectations and it's unfair, oooh actually it's good because more creative drive and the alternative is unfair) without much discussing the intricacies of it all (e.g. muddled by a person's status/education/wealth/identity/etc...). Which is a shame, as one could question whether meritocracy truly exists considering certain class advantages some have over others OR whether it can truly be fair (how is merit defined? who defines it?).

Granted, the topic itself is quite complex to begin with (and also somewhat ironic considering the IFComp is sometimes framed as a meritocratic competition), but the point does not manage to quite land either, which ever side you take on the debate. And often, the debate is not won with rational arguments...

One potential cause for this may be found in the writing of the game. The pacing is not quite there, dragging a bit too much at time - with the fairly long and superfluous introduction taking precious time/attention from the reader, or the fixation on the surrounding, which does not really amount to anything - and glossing over moments which should probably have been pushed further - the whole debate between you and the professor essentially. Though the writing wants to be somewhat humorous (it felt at time it was trying to make fun of it all?), the frequent repetitions and sloppy prose both undermines this element, the setting of the game (university) and the MC's characteristics (you are a student of higher learning with intellectual capabilities*). *but also... I've graded prose like this from uni students so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Speaking of the MC, it is made abundantly clear it is a distinct person with drive and wants and needs*... but also very much of a Mary Sue. The MC is just so good at debate, they can take on the professor on the first class BUT they are so bad at finding their class. They seem like those pretentious high school students who think they know everything, even better than experts. It's exhausting... *I don't really get the point at the start about the MC not being customisable? It feels a bit off-putting and unrelated to the topic itself?

The concept of meritocracy isn't the easiest topic to grapple with, and the thought of turning it into a debate-like gameplay to explore its definition(s) or philosophical schools of thoughts was a good framing for it. It's a shame it could not quite deliver to what it had promised...
