Sirius noticed the way James, Remus and Peter's eyes were fixed on Severus, now that Evans wasn't defending him, and after they'd stripped him in the courtyard, something was off. The way Peter's gaze lingered, the way Remus tried to get closer uncomfortably, and the way James' hand was clutching Severus' clothes in a tight grip, everyone was looking for an excuse to get closer, and Sirius was very unhappy about it.
Sirius Black could have been in love with some pureblood lady, good family, nice looks, maybe he could have been with some muggle-born, anything to defy his parents, she would have shown him a real world full of something more interesting than fancy dinners with snobs, but he was obsessed with Severus Snape. From the first year, from the first look, the first fight, Severus had been his, and to neglect it any longer could lead to something Sirius would never allow.
Luckily for Sirius, he was handsome, wealthy, still inherited, and all too aware that Severus was watching. The way the little snake squirms when Sirius disregards his knowledge and uses it for a joke, the way he rolls his eyes when Sirius is with a girl. Lily had once said that they weren't as bad as Severus had complained, and that Sirius wasn't the horrible, tactless, ill-mannered stray dog that Severus had said he was, the others he had generally referred to as marauders. Sirius then shook his head, Severus thinks about him, especially him, complains, singles him out, and oh, he absolutely completely understands the kind of person Sirius is.
So when Sirius closes the door to the room he's shoved Severus into, he sees a scared rabbit, with poison in his mouth, so unique. Snape looks like a miserable kitten living on the street, being bullied by other animals, but he is full of energy to lash out in revenge, he is not beautiful in the conventional sense, he is interesting, perfect, the way Sirius wants him to be.
Black doesn't talk, he doesn't explain when he kisses and squeezes, Severus is bony, too much so, but still Ideal for Sirius' hands. Snape tries to get out of it for the first ten seconds before giving in, opening his mouth, Sirius knew Severus was his, and Severus was of the same mind.
Sirius isn't getting enough kisses, he fucks Snape up against the wall while Severus digs his blunt nails into Sirius' forearms, leaving marks under his clothes too, Sirius is left hickeys and bites, high up on his neck for all to see, he even tried to bite Severus' cheek but got a smack on the head for it, giving up the idea.
This is no joke, so he helps Severus clean up, sitting Severus down on the table because his legs are still not functioning well, Sirius pulls the pendant out of his pocket.
"Ta da" he shows a simple chain with a family ring on it, not the famous Black ring because it is recognisable, but it is also from the house of purebloods, something that screams wealth and protection.
" And?" Severus looks at it as if it were some unnecessary trinket Sirius puts on, placing it on top of his clothes so it's visible.
"And nothing, your highness"
It's a good move, the next time James wants to touch Severus, Sirius stops him by the arm, nodding towards the ring.
"We don't want any trouble," Sirius whispers in his ear, pulling his friend away, the other two following. Sirius turns back to Severus, who is all too happy about it.
"Sirius can I have a word?" Remus calls them to a corner of the common room. "It's not that I'm doing it on purpose, it's just an accident, you know, but you and Severus, you smell like each other."
Sirius smiles, yes, an accident, as if he hadn't seen how much deeper Remus was sniffing next to Snape.
"Moony," Sirius pulls out, "do what you always do, pretend not to notice and keep quiet."
Sirius finishes with a toothy grin, returning to the sofa, to the loud circle of conversation and jokes. Maybe he'll invite his friends to his wedding to Snape, he thinks about it.

Lily wasn't forcing them to be friends or to talk to each other, she was just asking them to find a compromise, to leave the bullying aside, and if anyone, any of the four of them, hurt Severus, her tiny bridge of trust in Potter's feelings would be destroyed and she wouldn't give him a second chance. But Sirius saw it as an opportunity to connect. He had grown up, matured and matured compared to before, and this time he didn't want to mock, he wanted to understand.
So, Sirius deliberately sits down on the sofa next to Snape when there are still seats available in the room. He could ask about his faculty, his studies, his Slytherin house, his parents, but Sirius clears his throat:
"If you could choose another name, what would it be?"
Severus looks up from his book.
"What's that about?"
"Didn't you say you didn't like yours?"
Severus snorts.
"And why do you think I don't like it, star boy?"
Reasonably, Sirius looks away.
"And yet, maybe there is one?"
When Severus is silent for two minutes, Sirius doesn't expect an answer, but his dry lips part.
"Steven. Steven Meeks" Severus hummed something of his own, and Sirius almost let it go when he realised, with a loud intake of breath.
"Then I'd be Charlie Dalton."
Severus' lips move into a smile that doesn't go unnoticed.
"You're smiling! Oh my God!" Sirius moves closer, trying to move Severus' book away from his face.
"Black?" Lily's voice is a heavy chill from behind and Sirius stops trying.
"It's not like that, I..."
"He didn't do anything, not this time" Severus answers for him, standing up, if Lily has already come into the room, then it's time to leave.
Severus closes the book and puts it back on the shelf, Lily tells James once again that she doesn't need to be led home, she and Severus will walk home alone and gossip about them, so no marauders are invited. Sirius also leads them to the door, he is a gentleman, holding Severus' coat for the boy to put on, Lily kisses James on the cheek.
"Bye, Nuwanda," Severus waves, a little awkwardly, as he walks out the door.
The smile does not leave Sirius' face for the rest of the day.

Severus had never been handsome, but he had been cute as a child. Sirius once heard about this from Lily, who told him how most of the boys on her street thought Severus was a girl and would approach him, give him candy and flowers, Severus would blush and hide behind Lily, and when he got older he would say "I'm a boy" to drive away potential suitors. Sirius wonders how they could think Snivvy was cute. So he looks more closely.
Sirius watches closely as Severus wrinkles his nose at something disgusting, as satisfaction crosses his face when Severus eats something delicious, as Snape smiles at Lily when they see each other, lifting the corners of his mouth slightly and nodding in acknowledgement, as Severus reads with a calm face, unconsciously biting his lips as he concentrates, and as Severus laughs, uncovered and loud, the sun seems to shine brighter at this point to give Sirius a linguistic view of Snape's black hair that Lily has worked flowers into, Snape's relaxed physique shaking with laughter, his curved lips, crooked teeth, and long open neck, Snape throws his head back to avoid the notebook that Lily tries to put on Severus' face to shut him up, and then Sirius can determine, Severus is really cute.

Sirius is the one who mumbles nonsense during sex, and what Severus hears most often is "carry our puppies", which makes no sense until Severus finds out that Sirius is a dog animagus.

Objectively speaking, Sirius is handsome. He had always been, through the changes of adolescence that had made Sirius taller, stronger, more muscular, while still retaining the aristocratic features of thin limbs, and in the post-Azkaban period, Sirius had remained bloody handsome, gaining weight over a year in other countries, returning healthier when he presented himself to the Order. In Severus's subjective opinion, Sirius was illegitimately flawless, and, just a little, perhaps Severus was obsessed with casting brief glances at Sirius, in class, at recess, even when the Marauders came to him with their "pranks". And there is nothing strange in this, to be fascinated by beauty when it is something objective and common knowledge. But Sirius, who is well aware of what and who is beautiful, considers Severus to be one of the most beautiful people, a complete contradiction. It's like when he was 11 years old, he cringed when he saw Severus on the train and hid his disgust at the boy's appearance by finding an excuse in words. But, as Sirius grows up, he notices more: big almost black eyes with thick dark lashes that seem even longer in the sunlight that hits the office, plump pink lips that he bites when he thinks, high, sharp cheekbones with baby fat on the cheeks, and at the same time crooked teeth, a large nose, oily skin and small pimples. His limbs, awkwardly thin and slightly crooked, but still fragile and fascinating, wrists with pronounced radius bones at the end, long fingers that cut ingredients quickly but with bitten, nervous habits, nails and torn cuticles, long legs, narrow waist, Severus was rather flat throughout his school days, more like painfully thin, with yellowish skin, a crooked posture, and a tired look. Many years have passed and Severus has grown up, he still has a slim waist and long limbs, a healthier skin tone, but still looks tired and stooped. The black eyes are deeper, the baby fat gone, and Sirius can see the hollows in his cheeks, Severus has grown enough that his nose is now just right for him without looking large and protruding from his face, paler than when he was at school, his lips parting when Severus reports on the Death Eaters, and Sirius sees the same crooked teeth, Black swallows, collecting himself before looking up, finally meeting Severus' eyes, deep, in the poorly lit room they are the blackest shade possible, framed by dark lashes that flutter when Severus blinks. Their eyes meet, and oh, Sirius wants to groan in frustration, Severus really is the most beautiful man of all.

"What's your favourite animal?" James leans out of his chair towards Sirius.
"What?" Sirius turns his head and reaches out to grab James's shoulder, stopping him from leaning too far to fall.
"It's just that we've been spending a lot of time together, and I don't know what your favourite animal is."
"Then, well, a bat" Sirius straightens his arm, putting James' chair back on its 4 legs as the teacher enters the room.
"Why a bat?" James frowns, he was expecting dog, wolf or a lion.
"Just bats, I think they're fascinating" Sirius shrugs, turning back to the lesson.
**
"What's your favourite animal?" Remus asks over a cup of tea.
Sirius looks up from his cup, raising an eyebrow.
"I'm thinking of getting you a card for Christmas, so what animal?"
"A bat," Sirius says confidently. His eyes flicker to the hallway where Snape had just been before leaving the meeting.
"Hmm, I see." Remus hides his smile behind his cup as he takes a sip.

It was the usual pick one of two game that Lily had shown them, most of the time the marauders could guess who had which choice, and Peter was sure they shared a love of dogs, more than cats. They had Sirius, with his dog form, and Remus, a werewolf, in their group.
"Dogs," James said first, "they're loyal."
"Dogs," echoes Peter, " playful and funny."
"Dogs," Remus nods, " protective."
"Cats," says Sirius. Which makes everyone look at him. "They only look aloof, distant, they are loyal, in fact, they get attached to people, they are playful and need attention when they want it, independent, sturdy, cats are great at protecting themselves and their loved ones, even when they hiss or are about to attack they are still sweet, they are elegant, especially slender, short-haired, black cats, I think they are good luck actually, so beautiful, and smart, arrogant and conceited, but, interesting."
"Are you sure it's about cats?" Remus asks, as if he knows the answer is no.
Sirius smiles without answering, and Peter and James wonder what they've missed in the conversation.

Severus had no desire to expand his circle of acquaintances, but Lily thought otherwise, she dragged him to the bar to meet her boyfriend's friends, and Severus nodded at James when their eyes crossed. Remus and Peter were tolerant, they didn't press with questions or looks, they turned to him for opinions during the conversation, remaining polite and a little awkward, which Severus didn't help them with, showing that he had no intention of making conversation. They talked about themselves, and their friend Sirius, who "must be flirting with someone again, he loves attention" according to Remus. The aforementioned Sirius appears in their field of vision, kissing some girl before saying goodbye to her and joining the table.
The impression of Sirius was, strong. He unceremoniously laughs loudly at his joke, making everyone around him join in, thanks to his aura, loud and restless, he gave Severus ten seconds of attention, in which he managed to call Snape's ugliness the word "interesting" and get a glare for his appraising look, until the end of the meeting Severus, from time to time, felt Sirius's gaze on him. During the time spent in the company, Sirius talked to his friends, Peter talked about his flower pots, he had recently opened a flower shop, and a nice customer who came to him, Remus talked more about work, blushing at the ends of his ears when Sirius hinted at a girl, James and Lily argued about the date of the wedding, which hadn't even been proposed, not even, for which there hadn't even been a proposal, not even Severus, who hadn't noticed, talking about the chemistry experiments he'd been doing lately, Sirius himself talking about his motorbike he'd recently fixed himself and the partners he'd been with, giving each a brief description of why they hadn't worked out, to which Peter said "You're incorrigible".
"What do you think of Sirius?" Lily asked as she and Severus walked home. "Why do you ask about him?" As if there weren't two other friends of James's. Lily just shrugged, "Because you're different, and you could have had someone else as a friend." Severus remained silent, thinking of Peter's words to Sirius, "You're incorrigible."
Things got messy, Sirius asked for Severus' number, inviting him to a cafe to chat, and Severus, a mystery to himself, agreed, only to find himself bumping into the wall of Black's flat twenty minutes later, kissing Sirius. Waking up in the morning in a strange apartment, Severus has no vain hopes, no expectations, they have breakfast, and remain silent about the status of their relationship.
From the accounts of the number of people Sirius has been with, Severus is only one of many. This is confirmed when they are back in the bar and Sirius is standing with some guy, too close for normal conversation, the odd thing is that the night ends with Severus in Black's bed.
For months, they shared dirty kisses, quick handjobs in the bar's bathroom, and sex full of biting, as if they wanted to tear each other apart because they were incompatible. Sirius cooked dinners, followed by a film and sex, Severus cooked breakfasts, over which they talked leisurely before parting ways for the day.
"It won't end well" Lily complained and Severus just rolled his eyes, although she was right, Sirius would break Severus's heart when he left, and then there was nothing he could do.
Everything lives its own dynamic, but one day, while watching a stupid film, Sirius kiss him, softly, gently, with a promise of more, moving to his cheeks, short, sharper kisses, and then laughs, "I love you. I love you so much." And maybe their ending will be happy.

Sirius, who laughs at Snape's ugliness but keeps looking.
Sirius, who speaks loudly about Snape's worst traits, but always looks for those traits in others.
Sirius who speaks ill of the dark and black things associated with Snape, but surrounds himself with black things.
Sirius, who ignores potions, but practices alone to have the scent on him.
Sirius, with the "you're disgusting to touch!", but can't keep his hands off Snape.
Severus, who hates Black, his existence, breaths, looks, words, pure blood, appearance, clothes, smell, voice and footsteps, but he has him and never lets go.

Sirius's bedtime conversations were becoming more and more of the same - complaints about Snape. It ranged from recollections of what he had done during the day, interestingly enough, most of which did not involve Sirius at all, to mockery.
"His white, transparent skin, it's horrible! He looks like a dead man, sometimes it's bluish and greenish, like a drowned man's." Sirius shudders in a mocking way. The looters just nod. "And his limbs are like a girl's, but he's too skinny for a girl. Even his height doesn't mean anything, because he's too, well, thin?"
"It's not the thinness, it's the face," James barks from the bed.
"Yes! It's horrible, that nose, or those hollow cheeks. Only the eyes are good, black, mysterious, and maybe high cheekbones. The character is horrible, so inquisitive, always prying, with his long hook for a nose, the upstart, with his calm voice during lessons, and his loud screams when he is thrown into the water, like a wet rat, with rags instead of clothes hugging his figure. Damn, he's hot!" Sirius ends his complaints by covering himself with a blanket.
"Yeah, Pads," James says, out of habit, before shouting. "What!? No! Sirius!"
Sirius peeks out from under the covers, dodging.
"Goodnight" with a wave of his wand and Black's curtains close, cutting him off from Peter's scared face, James' horrified face and Remus' cheerful face.

When one of the wizards glances at Snape or speaks ill of him, Sirius wraps his arm around Severus' shoulders and pulls his to him, hugging him, wrapping his arms around him, growling at the stranger like an angry dog, which is synonymous with the word "danger". Severus, on the other hand, looks at the stranger unimpressed, showing that these words are just a little noise.

Severus is raising Harry and vows that he will never take any more children under his care, but then sees Sirius trying to raise Teddy as a substitute parent and puts the two-year-old on a broomstick. Severus crosses the area in no time, scooping up the child in his arms with "have you lost your shit Black!?" and looking angrily at Sirius, who doesn't understand what he's done wrong. Severus then promises that this is the last child he will ever take care of, and Sirius Black is just a sort of baby present.
Of course, they sleep together, kiss, have sex, and Sirius calls him "sweetheart", but Severus enjoys the abuse of completely ignoring their relationship in front of Sirius, but every night, with a slight smile, he kisses Sirius to say good night.

Drunken Sirius is more clingy, and he is the one who leans on Severus' shoulder and thinks he is whispering, but is actually speaking quite loudly into his ear: "Would you love me if I were a worm?".
Severus puts out his hand, trying to pull Black's face, whose breath reeks of alcohol, away from him, but Sirius holds on tighter.
"What makes you think I love you as a human, Black?"
Sirius looks upset for a second before answering.
"Then do you love Padfoot?" Sirius leans in further, leaning with all his weight, causing Severus to sigh in frustration, trying to move away.
In the morning, either Sirius doesn't remember this or pretends to, but remains his usual self, full of venom and hatred for Severus alone, always keeping an eye on Snape, his condition and behaviour, just out of suspicion, Black assures himself.
Severus, in turn, is more attentive to the worms, examining them while slicing them, laughing inwardly at his own stupidity. But when Sirius dies, Severus never uses these animals again.

Sirius' prank that ends with Severus' death, and Sirius' entire subsequent life feels like:
"You will look into the faces of passes by, hoping for something that will, for an instant, bring me back to you. You will find moonlit nights strangely empty because, when you call my name through them there will be no answer".
