মেধাবীরা আন্দোলন, রাস্তা ঝাড়ু, ট্রাফিক কন্ট্রোল, গনবিবাহ সব করতেছে, শুধু পড়াশুনা করতে রাজি না। তারা অটোপাসে আগ্রহী। অথচ আন্দোলন করে সরকারের পতন ঘটানো হল মেধার জন্যই। এইসব মেধাবীরা বড় বড় সন্ত্রাসী, সিন্ডিকেটবাজ, চাঁদাবাজদের ধরতে সাহস পায় না, সরকারি অফিসে অফিস টাইমে প্রতি রুমে সার্বক্ষণিক উপস্থিত থেকে ঘুষ নির্মুলে উদ্যোগী হয় না; কিন্তু হতদরিদ্র মোবাইল চোরকে পিটিয়ে মেরে ফেলতে পারঙ্গম।

নাম তার মাহফুজ আলম ওরফে আব্দুল্লাহ। ২০২৪ এর স্বাধীনতা আন্দোলনের নেপথ্যের মাষ্টার মাইন্ড। সমন্বয়কদের সমন্বয়ক।

বাড়ি লক্ষ্মীপুর জেলার রামগঞ্জ উপজেলার ইছাপুর গ্রামে।পড়াশোনা ফরিদগঞ্জ গল্লাক মাদ্রাসায়। সেখান থেকে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে আইন বিভাগে ভর্তি হয়। পড়াকালীন সময়ে সাংবাদিকতা করেছে, লিখেছে 'ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রতিষ্ঠা ও সমকালীন জনমত, ১৯১১-১৯২১' নামক গবেষনাধর্মী বই। আরও কিছু প্রকাশনাও আছে।

প্রচন্ড মেধাবী মাহফুজ বর্তমান বিশ্ব রাজনীতি, সমাজ নীতি, সমাজ গঠন, ব্রিটিশ ঔপনিবেশ আন্দোলন, ব্রিটিশ ভারত বিভাজনের পর থেকে হওয়া বিভিন্ন রাজনৈতিক চুক্তি, সমঝোতা ও রাজনৈতিক মুভমেন্টগুলো সম্পর্কে সম্যক জ্ঞ্যান রাখেন। ধারনা রাখেন দেশের প্রধান প্রধান রাজনৈতিক দল ও রাজনৈতিক নেতাদের মানসিক গঠন সম্পর্কেও। রাজনৈতিক ঘটনাগুলোর এনসাইক্লোপেডিক জ্ঞান যেমন তার রয়েছে, তেমনি রয়েছে আন্দোলন সফল বা ব্যর্থ কেনো হয়েছে সেসম্পর্কেও অগাধ জ্ঞান। মাহফুজ কখনোই কোন রাজনৈতিক দলের সাথে জড়িত নাই। তবে ২০১৮ সালের ছাত্র আন্দোলনের সাথে জড়িত ছিল। তখন থেকেই বর্তমান তথাকথিত রাজনীতি এবং রাজনৈতিক দলকে বাইরে রেখে একটি নতুন ভিন্নমাত্রার আন্দোলনের রূপরেখা প্রস্তুতের স্বপ্ন দেখা শুরু করে..

উচ্চ আদালত যখন কোটা পুনর্বহাল করেছিলো তখন মাহফুজ, আখতার, নাহিদ, আসিফ, বাকের মজুমদার আন্দোলন নিয়ে আশাবাদী হয়ে উঠে। পরে ব্যক্তিগত কারণে আখতার সরে গেলে আন্দোলনের প্রধান মাষ্টার মাইন্ড হয় মাহফুজ। আন্দোলনের ফ্রন্টিয়ার হয় নাহিদ, আসিফ আর প্রধান সংগঠক হন বাকের। মাহফুজ, নাহিদ, আসিফ, বাকের মিলে সিদ্ধান্ত নেয় গণতান্ত্রিক ছাত্র শক্তি নামে আন্দোলন পরিচালনা না করে নতুন নাম দেয়ার। সবার সম্মতিতে জন্ম নেয় 'বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলন' এর। মাহফুজ ছিলেন এর লিয়াজো কমিটির সমন্বয়ক।

আন্দোলনের পুরোটা সময় জুড়েই খুব আশাবাদী ছিলো মাহফুজ।

আন্দোলনের বিভিন্ন নামকরণ, আন্দোলনের ভাষা, কর্মসূচী খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করেছিলো সর্বস্তরের মানুষকে এক করতে। সহজবোধ্য এবং অর্থপূর্ণ এই নামগুলো; যেমন বাংলা ব্লকেড, মার্চ ফর জাস্টিস, কমপ্লিট শাটডাউন, রিমেম্বারিং দ্যা হিরোজ, মার্চ টু ঢাকা এগুলো তারই মস্তিষ্কপ্রসূত। ব্যতিক্রমী সব কৌশলেই ছাত্রদের আন্দোলন পর্যায়ক্রমে ছাত্র জনতার আন্দোলনে রূপ নেয়।

মাহফুজ আন্দোলনের বিভিন্ন গ্রুপকে একত্রে কাজ করতে ৫৫ জন সমন্বয়ক নির্বাচন করেছিল। যদি নাহিদ, আসিফ, সার্জিস বা হাসনাতরা গ্রেপ্তার হয় তাহলে আন্দোলন চালিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য পর্যাপ্ত লোক থাকবে এই পরিকল্পনা থেকেই এত সংখ্যক সমন্বয়ক করা। ১০ জন আটক হলে আরও ১০ জন দাড়িয়ে যাবে। তারা আটক হলে পরবর্তী ১০ জন। এভাবেই চলবে যাতে আন্দোলনে কোন ব্যাঘাত না ঘটে!

সমন্বয়ক করা হয় নাই কোন রাজনৈতিক ব্যাকগ্রাউন্ডের কাউকে যাতে সরকার বিরোধী দলের আন্দোলন বলে এর মেরিট প্রশ্নবিদ্ধ করতে না পারে।

মাহফুজ পর্দার আড়ালে থাকলেও শেষ রক্ষা হয় নাই, আগস্ট ১ বা ২ তারিখে সরকারের গোয়েন্দাদের একাধিক তালিকায় নাম আসে মাহফুজের। তবে ধরা পড়লেও আন্দোলনের খবর ও প্রতিটি কর্ম পরিকল্পনা যেনো ছড়িয়ে পড়ে সামাজিক, স্থানীয় ও আন্তর্জাতিক মিডিয়ায় সেই ব্যবস্থাও করে রেখেছিল। যদিও রাষ্ট্রীয় সব গোয়েন্দা সংস্থার কাছ থেকে নিজেকে আড়ালে রেখে আন্দোলন পরিচালনা করে গেছে এবং সফল করতে সক্ষম হয়েছে।

আন্দোলন সময়ে শাহবাগের এক সমাবেশে মাহফুজ বলেছিল,আজকে আমরা শাহবাগে এসেছি।আগামী মাসে থাকবো গণভবনে। সেদিনের কথা সত্য প্রমাণিত করে ছেড়েছে।, ৫ই আগস্ট গণভবন দখল নেয় ছাত্র-জনতা। পতন হয় ১৫ বছর জঘন্য দুঃশাসক আওয়ামী সাম্রাজ্যের এবং ইতিহাস তৈরি করে পালিয়ে যায় স্বৈরাচার হাসিনা।

হাসিনা সরকারের পতনের পর অন্তবর্তীকালীন সরকার গঠনে বড় ভূমিকা পালন করে মাহফুজ। উপস্থিত ছিল,সেনাপ্রধান,রাষ্ট্রপতি,রাজনৈতিক দলের নেতাদের আলোচনার টেবিলে। বাংলাদেশের বিশিষ্ট বুদ্ধিজীবি আহমদ ছফা ও ফরহাদ মাজহারের কম্বিনেশনে তরুণ প্রজন্মের এক অগ্নিপিণ্ড। কিংবদন্তীদের কিংবদন্তি। অন্তর্বতিকালীন সরকারের প্রধান উপদেষ্টা নোবেল লরিয়েট ডঃ মুহাম্মদ ইউনুস এর বিশেষ সহকারি হিসেবে নিয়োগ পেয়েছে।
