Oh to have been able to read mdzs unspoiled and get sucker punched halfway through the story with “Wei Wuxian had a son???” followed quickly by the second sucker punch that you only know this because Wei Wuxian is mourning that he’s already been killed.

Once again, I feel the need to point out that Gale did not know the orb was the Karsite Weave, capable of destroying Mystra, until she told him in Act 3. And that was after she had already ordered him to kill himself—only revealing the truth once he had set his sights on the Crown, which she wanted for herself.
Gale genuinely believed he was returning a lost piece of the Weave to her. He wasn’t trying to surpass her. He did it because he wanted to please her. He never felt worthy. Yes, he hoped that one day she would see him as her equal, allowing him access to the knowledge the gods kept hidden. His ambition, while misguided and reckless, was never malicious—he was not seeking to overthrow her or destroy her.
As a Chosen, Gale was already an incredibly powerful wizard, and it wasn’t his fault that he reached for something he didn’t even know existed. Mystra never warned him—she simply told him to be content. And when Gale takes the Crown (provided you’ve read the Book of Karsus), we learn that he is powerful enough to ascend to godhood. Yet, unless you pursue the Origin Evil ending, he doesn’t attempt to claim her domain—he creates his own. That is ambition, not hubris.
Gale’s ambition is not the equivalent of a man thinking he’s better than a woman, nor is it the act of someone trying to surpass a figure they have no skill in. His heartbreak is clear. He is devastated, and he is ready to obey Mystra’s order to sacrifice himself. You don’t think that if she had told him the truth from the start, he wouldn’t have begged her, pleaded with her in horror, to remove the orb and forgive him? But she only told him when he sought something she wanted. And even then, I have no doubt that had she simply asked him to give her the Crown in exchange for forgiveness, he would have done so. Instead she ordered him to die for it, and if you know what happens if he uses the orb in Act 2, you know that his death achieves nothing at that moment apart from her getting the crown.
The only reason he goes after the Crown at all is because it’s his only alternative to dying at Moonrise, and it's his chance to prove himself worthy. He is desperate at this point, but his indignation remains at the God's themselves and the way they treat mortals, not just Mystra. Gale is essentially going through a crisis of faith. I think many either forget or downplay this element of Gale's relationship with Mystra. She's an Omniscient, Omnipotent being, and Gale is a mere mortal. She had/ has all the power.
There have been so many others who have portrayed this more eloquently than I, and with screenshots.

Not to get political or anything (bc I’m a fanfic blog dammit) but it’s interesting how when literally anyone else dies, it’s “murder”, but when some rich asshat dies, it’s “assassination”. He wasn’t a government official, he wasn’t a diplomat or general or minister. He was a CEO. He was literally Just Some Guy that got born rich and stayed rich.
Did his death send a message? Duh. Obviously, it sent a message. But he was just another guy at the end of the day. Why is it an assassination when it comes to rich people with no connection to our government? What did he contribute to warrant a city-wide search?

EDIT: Please check out our petition to save “Étoile” & join us in making some noise about this wonderful show 💙
Luke Kirby’s job in the Amy Sherman-Palladino-verse is to come in, make people laugh, drop a minimum 3 pop culture references per minute, show a shocking amount of face & feelings, then kiss the most bizarre, beautiful, brilliant woman in the cast. And as much as I’d love these women to kiss girls, too, I truly love that for him & his wonderful characters.
Also Kelly Bishop is here (as always), along with as many other-show alums as she can swing (whenever she can), & an autism x ADHD couple. (They are always wonderful; if the fates allow, they are fairly gay; & all the couples feel queer, even if they appear not.) Because Amy found her recipe & why mess with success 😂
Anyways. I love this world where ASP is so successful, she can do whatever she wants. After the success of Gilmore Girls, she tried for her ballet show with Bunheads, it wasn’t quite big enough & it got canceled. Then Maisel was even more successful, so she got Étoile & it’s fabulous.

My hot take is that we didn’t even need hater Ben and there was no real emotional impact with him and the siblings cause he was pretty much a flat character with only some blimps of likability and even then

I am actually so sick of my tl on twt being flooded by complaints like be so freaking for real if you hate the game just leave stop playing it I promise it’s okay
#WAAAWAAAWAAA THEY DONT HAVE LATINO VAS#LISTEN alhaitham had a half Palestinian VA yk what he did ? BUTCHER EVERY ARAB NAME and so did everyone else#there’s other Arab vas and they too butchered their names. I hate it too#them vas being of the race the natlan characters are will NOT fix that problem ok because they can white wash the pronounciation like crazy#and yk what it’s lowkey WORSE if it’s an Arab va cause then everyone thinks that’s how you pronounce that name#when in reality it sounds as atrocious as nails on chalkboards BE FR#SMHHHHH#and it’s a new complaint every freaking day like what the heck#first it’s skin colour second it’s imaginary complaints like the vas nationality PICK A STRUGGLE#if you truly hated the game you would’ve quit. outright you would’ve quit#but the reason you don’t quit is cause the issues you claim to care so deeply about are things#you do not care ENOUGH about and hoyo has you wrapped around#their pinkies so if you’re gonna complain; then complain properly and QUIT THE GAME#I am so sick of everyone complaining and polluting the atmosphere#like yall can I say something controversial? when it was sumeru i genuinely do not care enough because it is not that bad#for the level of rep we are getting sure there’s some mistakes but if you’re gonna#sit here and whine about everything you would NEVER be satisfied#sure the inaccuracies are annoying BUT ITS ONLY MILDLY SO#now pls like … if you truly are a justice warrior quit the game alr and prove you care about these#“major issues” if I as a swana person who IS disappointed in some aspects of sumeru yet it is not that atrocious as you all claim it to be#then I think you natlan folks whining like the trumpet of the day of judgement has been blown should really pipe down a tad bit#dora daily

i don’t regret dyeing my hair blue but i do regret ever going to this stylist. so that’s something i guess
#this whole shitty saga has just been. argh#i like the blue but the actual dyejob was bad. i paid 200 dollars for a job i could’ve just fucked up myself#and it’s like. i’m scared to shower again. i kind of smell bad. it was already streaky with blonde bits before the shower#the shower where my hair dyed me back so bad that im STILL tinted blue in some spots (back neck etc)#and i asked for a refund but im not assertive enough or good enough at confrontation to actually commit to it#it’s like. i respect the value of time and labor. it was nearly 4 hours of work for her. she offered to refund half but said only that much#bc of the amount of product and bleach and stuff that she used#and it’s like. I DONT KNKW MAN.#i need to get it fixed so i can actually shower#but i don’t trust her to fix it because i trusted her to do it in the first place!!#and i can pay someone else to do it but it’s like. taking the half refund is like saying this was worth $100. WHICH IT WAS FUCKING NOT#and then i’m even MORE in the hole on this stupid fucking shitty frustrating stressful upsetting situation. AND ITS NOT EVEN MY FAULT#so uh. lesson learned never trust anyone?#and on top of that. the things i’m dealing with are apparently known issues with the type of dye. ISSUES I WASNT WARNED ABOUT#i wasn’t told how to take care of it. what not to do. not even to not wash it with hot water#like literally i could have just done it myself and it probably would’ve been shit but at least it would’ve actually been on me#instead of being someone else’s fault and me being on the hook for it

Playing one of the old Jake and the Never Land Pirates games on Flashpoint made me realize that the game, Journey Beyond the Never Seas, makes a better finale to the show than the actual final episode.

i am thinking about if getou and gojo really did continue talking afterwards and like the tiny intricate details and logistics of their lives.
they part in 2007. they had flip phones.
getou dies in 2016. they had iphones, instagram, snapchat, and dog filters.
when getou first goes rogue, shoko and gojo probably still have his number and are blowing his shit up. he probably has his phone off for the first days of it and turns it back on after. there’s no need to trash it out of a want to stay hidden—he won’t die unless they send an army or gojo himself.
when he turns his cell back on, he’s half-tempted to delete all his photos of jujutsu tech, with shoko, with gojo, and he gets as far as deleting maybe 15 of them in a heavy-breathed rage before convincing himself that maybe he doesn’t need to delete these. these are mementos of the said pinnacle of jujutsu, and they’ll come in handy when there are no non-sorcerers left.
he’s about to put the cellphone away before it rings. it’s satoru. he sighs. he calls once every day. it’s relentless, six or seven calls at minute intervals. getou almost laughs at it—the world’s strongest, desperate.
a month after his disappearance, he calls every night at ten. sometimes the pixels on his cell read 10:04, 10:21, the latest was 10:42. it becomes a ritual, agonizing every night wanting to finally beat gojo at something, to make him lose. but suguru finds himself holding his breath as 10pm wanders by every day, breathing easy only when his phone stops buzzing.
maybe one night he’s yet again alone in his shoebox apartment, assorted belongings littered about, convincing himself this was the best path for him. not jujutsu tech, the horrible missions, the loneliness, the taste. it feels better here, where no one else is happy.
he’s lost in a daze when his phone rings. it’s been three months and satoru won’t let up. every night. he scoffs and flips his cell open just to sneer and make a point, to feel powerful in his own mind, but once the line connects, he’s silent, mouth agape and eyes wide that he actually picked up.
he hears static from the other side, a shift of fabric, a shaky inhale. “suguru, you fucking idiot,” gojo sneers, loud on the other end, “what’d ya pick up by accident?”
getou can’t help but laugh from the bottom of his heart. his abs are burning and tears are falling by the time he contains himself, and memories flood back. selfies, dumb finds, food pics, phone bills crazy all from hours on the phone together. there’s satoru’s voice, and then there’s lofi samsung static-lined satoru’s voice. both sound like home.
“suguru—“
“satoru,” he breathes, and this is what it feels like to talk again. he’s lived in this apartment in silence for the past three months, voices only coming from his saved videos.
“come home, suguru.” they both know it’s impossible.
getou chuckles again into the speaker. he can almost see it, satoru’s spindly form, one leg propped up on a chair, elbow resting on it as he holds the phone in distaste. or maybe he’s completely prone, jolted awake by a voice he hadn’t expected to hear.
“satoru, you’ll be fine,” he chimes, hanging up. he squeezes his eyes shut and swallows a sigh, and just like that, he’s left home again.
three years later the calls have stopped. the iphone 4 comes out, and the world is awash in touch screens, app stores, and missing charging cables. it’s time for an upgrade, and getou powers off his flip phone—his youth—one last time and tucks it gingerly into a shoebox. he starts completely anew with no data to transfer.
gojo meticulously transfers every contact and double checks only one number. it’s the first call he makes on his new phone.
the number you have dialed is not in service—
he hangs up and slows his breathing. he doesn’t delete the number. suguru, the contact reads.
you’ll be fine.
