A/N: The meme in question ------------------------------------------------------------- Once you got the call that Azure, Peng, and Yellowtusk all three were sick, Y/N rushed over with as many supplies as they could carry. Shoving open the door, Y/N saw all three of them sitting on the couch. Yellowtusk, as always, was sitting between Peng and Azure. All of them were wrapped up in a comedic amounts of blankets. They scurry over, quickly checking their temperatures. "I don't get it, I didn't think immortal beings could get sick! This must be really nasty, are you guys okay?" Azure gave a few coughs but ever so bravely said, "Worry not for us, dear Y/N. Perhaps it is something small that will pass. The weather is changing, after all. We are not Celestials, perhaps we are still susceptible to new strains?"

"I guess that makes sense. You poor things, what symptoms do you have?" Peng was letting his darling check his throat for irritation when Yellowtusk replied, "Chills, coughing, fatigue, aches of the body, headaches, sore throats, and nausea." Y/N raised an eyebrow. "That's pretty specific." Peng closed his beak. "We began tracking our symptoms before we took the test." "I see..." Y/N proceeded to run basic checks on all three of them for fever, red throats, and such. Surprisingly, none of them had fevers or an irritated looking throats. "Well maybe you guys just don't have obvious symptoms. I'll start making some soup, okay? I brought some medicine with me, I'll distribute it after you have some food in your systems." With that Y/N moved to the kitchen, placing their bag on the table. They were going to begin digging around for the soup pot when something caught their eye: a red colored pencil...right next to the three positive virus tests. Y/N picked up the test and squinted, realizing that the second line looked awfully uneven... A few minutes later Y/N carried trays carrying nutritious soups to the ailing demon kings, a bright smile on their face. "Good news, boys, I think a found a way to help! Since you guys are feeling so terribly, I called up a really good doctor I know to help perform a thorough examination. After all, if Infernal kings can catch a virus, we don't know what else you could have! I doubt you guys got vaccinated." A flash of concern crossed their faces but Peng smoothly replied, "How very thoughtful of you, my dear. But...what exactly does "thorough" mean?" "I'll just put it this way...no nook or cranny will be unchecked." At this the three begin to choke, Azure quickly getting up from the couch. "By the Buddha, I suddenly am better!" Y/N crossed their arms and said sarcastically, "It's almost like you were never sick." Azure laughed nervously. "What gave us away?" "You left the colored pencil out on the table." Azure and Peng both turned to look a Yellowtusk, who was drinking his soup straight from the bowl, trunk lifted out of the way. When he noticed their stares he said, "I will not be blamed for this. It was Azure's idea!" "I don't care whose idea it was. You guys, if you want me to give you more attention, please just say so. I got really worried." The kings got up from their seats, carefully giving a group hug. "Alright, we will bear that in mind." As he said this, Azure's face suddenly scrunched up and he let out a sneeze, making a sound quite similar to a kitten. His eyes widened at this. "Uh oh." Y/N sighed. "I'll go get the thermometer." Truly, there was never a dull moment with these three.

Nearly a year ago, @boggleoflight tagged me HERE in a scar meme. I really loved the reference and a recent post made me think about it again! So here's Briar's current scar reference.

Details about Briar's Scars

Childhood Scars(red) - Briar's childhood scars are mostly just from being rough-and-tumble and curious when he was pretty young. None of them were overly serious, but from things like climbing trees, falling out of said trees, and once a roll down a rocky hill. Unfortunately for his worried single mother, they never seemed to slow down Briar's curiosity and wanderlust for long.

Teeth/Claws (orange) - These scars are from the teeth and claws of an angry Hrothgar. The nasty one on his left forearm is a bite and the other two are claw-marks. Being rather deep and nasty, they took some time to heal and still occasionally ache in cold weather.

Burns (yellow) - The burns on his left shoulder and upper back were from the fires in the Black Shroud caused by the Calamity. Briar was caught under a burning tree branch when a tree collapsed, resulting in some rather noticeable scars.

Weapons(green) - The scars on his hands and across his cheek are from a spear. The worst is on his fingers and palms, due to him grabbing a spear and it being pulled roughly out of his hands, resulting in the jagged bone tip badly damaging him. It took him time, effort, and considerable pain to get most of the feeling and dexterity back in his fingers, although they still get shaky and have trouble gripping when he's tired. The small wound on his stomach is from an arrow, but fortunately, his armor protected him and kept it from going too deep.

Animal(blue) - The mark on his thigh is from his ram being rambunctious (pun intended) in the pasture when young. While playing, his horn caught Briar's thigh and gave him a little gash that scarred. The wide scar on his right foot/ankle is from when he was a teen. He was crossing a river and stepped too close to a half-grown eft. It grabbed his foot and bit down hard, trying to drag him into deeper water as a meal. Fortunately, Briar was a bit too big and managed to free himself, but not without a permanent reminder to be more careful.

Man. I have SO many thoughts about the secret fic. I am utterly fascinated. I read it all last night and want to reread to get my head around it. But just initial thoughts here:

I've seen in some of your responses to questions that it is partially an exploration of your own discomfort with RPF and that the backlash is part of the art and like - bravo. Yes. I can't help but see all of the outrage on Twitter and remember that these are the same people who:

•Harass and bully Rosie Darby constantly and screenshot/post her tweets to be mocked for the people in the fandom she has blocked

•Create and pass around nasty memes of Rita Ora

•Speculate about Rita and Taika's sex lives/assume he just uses her for sex

•Openly talk about the sex acts they'd like to do to these two actors

•Incorporate details about real actors into their fictional versions constantly

•Ship Anton/Viago because they're played by the same actors as Stede/Ed

•Draw graphic porn of these actors using references of their real bodies with their real faces

•The list goes on

And I don't bring this all up to play the blame game or justify RPF (although I think the shit with Rosie and Rita is insane and so embarrassing) because in my old age - I think I deep down am not comfortable with RPF even though I have not shaken the temptation yet. I bring this all up to say that the righteous outrage seems to be coming from a lack of self-awareness and just a lot of folks who are really clinging to the idea that their version of fandom is Right and Good. I guess my point is that I think all fanfiction/fanart/fandom is somewhere on the spectrum of invasiveness and most people refuse to accept that about their own art because we're all convinced we're the good guys in the story. And it doesn't help that this fandom seems particularly hellbent on finding bad guys.

i did about fifty million meta levels of analysis on my own discomfort while writing this fic and am full of thoughts. i have no desire to say that fiction about real people is good or bad because i honestly just don't think about the world that way anymore. what i can say is that fiction about real people exists, has existed probably as long as language/storytelling, and will very likely always exist.

human beings talk about each other. we tell stories about each other. gossip is probably as essential to humanity as dance or music. it is an incredibly uncomfortable reality that every single person who knows you has a version of you in their head that you have no control over. that we all exist as our own embodied experience AND as all of the ways we are perceived. one of the more challenging aspects of being a human, i'd say.

to be a celebrity, or have any kind of audience, is to increase the number of heads you exist in, and as i am presently experiencing for the first time on a small scale between the last fic and this one, this comes with all sorts of uncomfortable, messy problems.

however, the other function of this fic is as a free speech tool. let's say we decide the uncomfortable mess of real person fiction is harmful enough to ban it from being published, either on Ao3, or within our legal system. would you ban this fic and why? and if you would ban this fic, how much of what parts would i have to change before it would be allowed? who would get to choose the "correct" answer to those questions, and who would be reading the fic and deciding whether or not it fits the "correct" guidelines? do you want to give someone else the ability to make that choice for you?

people would have been more pissed off if i'd used taika's kids actual names. but what if i'd named his kids sasha and malia obama? what if i'd used the trump kids? cause if you're banning real person fiction, all three gotta go.

ultimately, i think the parts of me that are really uncomfortable with what i've written feel like i've been horribly rude and disrespectful to the people i love, and honestly, i feel like there's some truth to that. it's just one truth among many, many, many other simultaneous truths, including my belief that the wrestling i did in writing this is important and worthwhile wrestling, and i'm absolutely ecstatic to see i was able to inflict that wrestling upon so many of you <3

i. vali needs to stop talkin shit about winter fae because now hes really close with one LMFAO. but seriously, i like to think that the schism between unseelie/seelie and winter/summer fae is entirely cultural/historical from years of warfare and peace treaties gone wrong and vengeance and repeating the same old mistakes and being stubborn and you know, just fae things, and winter/summer fae are actually meant to help complete eachother, obviously. esp with caoimhe and vali i feel like they help round eachother out, and it helps a lot that caoimhe belongs to her own court completely separate from the rivalry of the ljosalfar and dokkalfar courts. vali was pretty quick to set aside much of his preconceptions surrounding winter fae once he realized that not all winter fae were the ljosalfar lol.

ii. i think its safe to say that their main love language between eachother is gift giving and physical affection. caoimhe often spoils vali with handmade gifts, and vali is very lovey dovey as an expression of his affection. and they flip flop on this, sometimes vali is the one making a handmade silk sash from his own silk, and caoimhe is the one picking vali up and hugging him tightly. also they are the embodiment of the 'he asked for no pickles' meme. caoimhe always be standing up for vali andvali greatly appreciates that, and hopes he can return the favor one day.

iii. this is actually the second time vali has experienced real snow -- which perhaps explains why he thought it was a good idea to find shelter in a goddamn snow trap. dumbass. but caoimhe has since taught vali lots of cold weather survival. like dont go inside the snow trap under the tree even though it looks warm and cozy and safe, its a death trap!! as well as stuff vali would just have never had to deal with, like how to prevent and deal with hypothermia, and how to orientate oneself even when youre standing in a field of white. he still wouldnt be caught dead outside in the freezing cold without caoimhe, but it helps that he knows lol. on the flip side, vali might return the favor one day if caoimhe ever ends up in the sidhe. it'll be jungle survival hours then.

iv. vali's basilisk and caoimhe's elk should meet and they should be friends. granted, basilisks are nasty little shits, but maybe caoimhe's elk may be enough to put rakhsh in his place lmfaoo. but i imagine they could go riding together. im sure vali would be able to collect his mount and bring him to caoimhe's court. rakhsh would totally just be a splotch of warm colors splattered across the wintery landscape, just like vali is lmfaoo. maybe they could have matching saddles and reins too....

Morren had her hand pressed to her cheek and it began to glow softly as she focused her magic into healing. She could feel the blood trapped under her skin and muscle and it was a simple thing to dissipate it and reduce the swelling. Bruises needed hardly any prodding at all but needed several sessions before they faded entirely. Thus when she removed her hand, the ugly purple had immediately faded down to a yellow-green.

Healing she could do. Unfortunately nothing could be done about the constant downpour that had dogged them in the Mire. It made a sad place just that much more miserable. Alas, even druids couldn't change the weather.

Meme status: Accepting

Toodles does not have patience for cats that are really only after her for her looks or status and thus, she will become irritable and uncomfortable around such felines. This, of course, often puts both Tom and Butch on her list of irritants depending on their behavior.

Toodles HATES being seen as just a pretty little trophy to hang off a cat's arm, as she has more to offer than just her pretty face an money. Hence the source of her discomfort whenever male cats go gaga over her right on sight.

But Toodles is a clever kitty and she isn't above using their shallow nature to her advantage by wringing what she wants out of them first, as a sort of punishment for their nasty behavior.

If you're going to try and chase her for superficial reasons, she's going to make you pay for it quite literally before you end up in the ditch.

Cemetery picnics. It was quite a rage in the Victorian Era and Drak quite enjoys them, as he views Cemeteries as peaceful locales where no one will really bother you. But, of course, that kind of thing has fallen out of favor and no one really wants to join him for such a thing anymore. Frankie and Howler sometimes indulge him but that's few and far between and it makes Drak incredibly sad because, to him, there is a beauty to such places.

He is also very respectful with this, as he doesn't set up on top of graves but instead on any land in the Cemetery that isn't 'occupied' yet, so as to not disturb any souls. He also chooses to levitate across the grounds, finding it ill mannered to walk on the gravesites. If there is no empty space and the only option is settling on graves, he'll leave an offering of flowers and speak with the dead as if they're hosts and allowing him to be there, which they kind of are.

Not having access to this hobby would upset him as he finds it very calming and a nice way to spend a day. As for how he'd cope, he'd try to have picnics elsewhere but I'm not sure how effective it would be.

Caramel LOVES Spring time.

She loves the returning warmth and life of both the air and the flora. Spring is also when the production of candies goes into a higher demand and means she gets to bring more joy by delivering chocolates. It's just a season that she really vibes with and loves having outdoorsy activities to enjoy the new warm air.

As for which one is her least favorite... it has to be summer because the rising temperatures limit what one can comfortably do outside and is a melting risk for any products she has to deliver, resulting in the need for insulated cold bags whenever she goes out.

It's just too hot and muggy for anything to be fun!

Garden Report & Frugal Living 24.06.30

I wasn't going to post. With the loss of Bronte, health struggles and the garden not doing well, I thought 'why bother'. I sat with that thought all week ... why bother. When I came to the conclusion I bother because this really isn't about me. Yes, I write about what I am doing, seeing, feeling but the reason for this is to encourage others: go garden, go try, struggle through it! Don't give up! So I'm not giving up this part of the blog (sorry).

I did get out and do my own watering today. Its back to being foggy cold and damp weather (the usual in the land of eternal fog). The weeds are rampant. The fruit trees had three blooming periods this year. I have never seem that. All the trees are long and leggy even though I don't fertilize nor water. The new growth this Spring is over 60cm/2feet. The fruit setting is very light. There was lots of rain during the regular/initial blossoming season. I also haven't seen many bees but the bumble population is strong and more plentiful than years past. Nothing in the garden is growing well. There is no difference between what I seeded and planted earlier in the season and the start I bought over a month ago. Neither are doing well. Its like they are frozen in time. Its warm enough for them to grow but they do so ever so slightly Unlike the damn trees! Its not like I am new to this. The soil is amended, plants tended and nurtured ... and I talk to other gardeners who are suffering the same lot. So I started looking wider, videos on youtube for Ireland, USA, UK, Spain and other European gardeners and many of them that are posting have similar problems Except those that are growing under the cover of poly-tunnel or glass/greenhouse. I wish I had a greenhouse so I could compare myself to myself.

Entering into July and there is still time to replant. Things that are quick growing in the 30-60 day range. I've got to think what I can manage vs what I can buy cheaply (is there such a thing anymore?!). Will I be able to put up the harvest (either homegrown or commercial) for the winter pantry is another concern.

Rethinking this food production/veg patch. This year the caterpillars again arrived and decimated the gooseberries and even the currants that I thought were hidden enough. The wasp that eat these pest arrived late and at the tail-end of this, after the majority of the damage was done. I will try to nurture the bushes back but this year was pretty damn hard on them and there is hardly any fruit and even less leaves. I was in the thought pattern of perennial planting the veg patch and then planting annual veg along the borders but that just doesn't produce enough especially with the downturn in annual plant health. Its like double dipping on the poor end of the spectrum. Do I try to invest money into a small poly tunnel? Do I do both under cover? Do I have enough protection in the back garden for a tunnel? What a mess/damage when pruning the fruit trees? Its like one of those rubik cubes or little slider number travel puzzles. My brain moving slowly through the pro and cons. You know that meme of mathematical equations and that confused woman ... yeah, that's me.

If you have any of your garden observations or have used tunnel growing in cold foggy maritime climate, please chime in. My only experience with poly is starts/propagation of native plants in a production scale for sale and not full cycle, less lone doing a stable veg thngie. Yes, Huw makes it look so lovely and easy. Can his team come over? He can come over too :) We'll have tea.

Frugal Living tip: this may only apply to fellow city dwellers but do-able for others. Instead of paying for green bin for yard/garden waste, you can do a chop and drop or in cases where there is nasty things you don't want re-sprouting (brambles, ivy, etc.) you can get a heavy duty construction grade plastic bag and load it up, tie it shut and set aside. It will eventually compost/degrade where you can load it back into your garden as a side-dressing. There has been some controversy in this as that 1) its plastic! and 2) some have been treated with pesticide (or worse! perfumes) on the inside. This will have to be for you to do more research and decide on your own. We bag and tag, and set aside by the rubbish bins and at some point just return right there where the butterfly bush, fuchsias and climbing roses can benefit.

Type of bed: They prefer a twin sized bed, which is really all they need. They also prefer that there’s room underneath for them to stash things they don’t want out in the open. This also provides them a space to go when it’s storming or when they’ve just had a bad day. They’ll slide below the bed frame and stay there until they’re feeling a bit better.

Number of blankets: They often forget blankets are even an option, let alone multiple at the same time. On an average night in the tropical weather, they won’t bother with one at all. 

Number of pillows: They only really use one. They don’t like having a lot of pillows on their bed, so any others usually end up on the floor.

Type of clothing: Whatever they’re wearing. They’ll change if prompted to, but then they’ll stay in the pajamas until they’re prompted to change again or take a shower, which is an entirely different battle in itself.

Does it matter where they sleep? They don’t like sleeping with others in the room. It makes them anxious, so usually they’ll wait until they’re alone to fall asleep. The only exception is if they’re absolutely exhausted and can’t stay awake no matter how hard they try. They also hate sleeping in the dark, so they often keep the lights on or fall asleep during the day.

What do they do if they can’t fall asleep? If they’re sleepy - which is most of the time - you can bet they’re also cranky. This is where most of their practical jokes come from. They’ll slip something nasty into Hinata’s breakfast or ‘spill’ some glitter on the carpet somewhere. Harmless, but annoying. 

Frequent dreams/nightmares? They don’t like talking about what goes on in their head when they’re asleep- they hate the way people react. But their nightmares are frequent, if not nightly. Of course, they usually involve Junko in some way. It varies from night to night. And when it isn’t Junko, it’s the Remnants, everyone else on the island, the way these people treated them during the tragedy. It’s hard to forget, though they hold no grudges. They were just doing what Junko said, so it’s fine, yeah?

Deep slumber or naps? Deep slumber, once they finally get to sleep. It can still be easy to wake them, though, so careful not to make too much noise if you’re near their cottage. They’ll be even crankier than before if you accidentally wake them up.

When do they sleep? Usually, someone eventually comes along and tries to force them to go to bed, which they are very vocal about hating and it rarely ends up being successful. Other times there’s a good chance you’ll find them curled up under a table in the dining hall with a whoopee cushion in their hands, snoring away. They’ll wake up if you touch them, so it’s better to just leave them there for a bit.

What could wake them up? It’s a good idea to whisper. If you walk and talk as softly as you can around them, they may stir a bit but they’ll stay asleep. Just be careful not to drop anything.

Y/N is so overly exhausted from fighting sleep due to nightmares that they completely break down in the kitchen. In their sleep deprived state they get the brilliant idea to take strong sleeping meds to hopefully skip the REM stage of sleep. They end up mixing the pills up in their state and taking one too many happy pills. It ends with them going on a nasty hallucination trip and passing out.
