➫ KIRK had always felt the stars in his bones, he was MEANT for space. Most people had told him it was all because of his father, the Great George Kirk, best Starfleet captain since Archer, so of course he would have greatness in him. But, most people didn’t know his father, most people understood the ideal version of him, but to his sons, he was the absent father. The guy who always called home instead of being there and made a mother so miserable she dived head deep into her own work to avoid feeling his absence. His father had passed away some time ago, but his shadow was ever looming, and Jim felt the dawning realization that he desperately wanted to be different than him. Sammy had chosen the sciences as a way to remove himself from his father's memory. Jim decided to embrace the path laid out for him, by creating his own command style, a fact which his older brother would NEVER understand, no matter how many times they talked about it.

Why he was reminiscing about his family in the lift ride to his security team, he couldn't be sure. Maybe because every time he came to the armory, he was reminded of his turbulent academy days, having to prove himself and live up to everyone's expectations of him. It gave him a tinge of a jolt once the lift landed, which he made a mental note about before stepping into the pristine corridor lined with phase rifles and pistols of every shape and size. He was there to meet someone, Regulus Cervius, the head of his current security team. They had known each other for a bit, Kirk had insisted upon it, since the guy would essentially be protecting him on most away missions, since his captain also insisted on leading said missions. "Reg! Hey, man, are you in here?! I wanted to go over the schedule and details for the next planet we're visiting..." Dark browns caught on a new rifle, immediately losing his focus on the task at hand and moving to the locker that held the beauty. "Whoa."

➫ JIM found himself thinking about their latest passenger, rapping his fingers on the arm rests of his chair, careful not to touch the console there, lest he wanted to sound the alert or send a ship wide message of him thinking. Not that he hadn't done it before now, but he didn't want to appear incompetent while they were all still shell shocked from the days events. He found himself giving the bridge to Mister Spock, and he left, too troubled by the fact he hadn't been down to visit her. The lone survivor of Krypton.

The Enterprise had been on a voyage of diplomacy, of course her crew hadn't been a stranger to the decorum and proper etiquette when preparing for a new planet to join their Federation. But this time, it had been different, something they had never encountered before now. When they got to the planet, it wasn't even whole anymore, just a bunch of broken and jagged rocks floating in space, a single surviving pod in all the wreckage. They brought it on board and opened it up to reveal Kara. It was still a mystery why this had happened to her planet, and she could offer very little in terms of an explanation, but then and there Kirk had made a vow to get her back to Earth and under the protection of the Federation.

Jim walked down the hall, hands tightly folded at his back, head down and remembering the debris, the bodies floating in space. His feet get him to her guest quarters but he hesitates to ring her door, worried that his presence might be too much for her so soon after the loss of her people. He knew what grief did. But still, it was his duty as captain to check on her, make sure she had the comforts she needed. Bing bong, goes the bell, hands back behind him before it's over. "Miss Kara? It's Jim Kirk, I just wanted to check on you. Without doctors and the like around, if that's alright? I can come back another time."

my absolute favourite thing about the kirk and spock dynamic is that the whole time you’re watching the show spock is gaslighting you into thinking that kirk is this loose canon and spock is paragon of logic keeping his captain on the straight and narrow when its very clearly the other way round. aside from being turned on by everyone and fighting like an old-timey boxer…. kirk is just like.. quite a logical, stable guy. like yeah he rules with his emotions but he’s rarely reckless or erratic, even in situations of immense pressure he’s always calm and measured. sure kirk is unhinged and insane, but we knew that right off the bat. spock on the other hand tries to hide how insanely balls to the walls crazy he is by standing next to jim and hiding all his derangement with logic. i think the reason bones beefs with spock so much because he is the only one who has noticed that spock is an absolutely unhinged individual. (jim is too busy doodling <3 mr jim spock <3 all over his briefings to notice)
