Stolen Hearts by Aria L. Deair
About the Author: Aria L. Deair is an author who has been writing and (while cursing her excessive comma usage) publishing fanfiction online for more than sixteen years. Freelance writer by day and author every other hour that she isn’t sleeping, she spends her days courting carpal tunnel and “forgetting” to wear her wrist brace.
As a proud member of more fandoms than she can count, Aria can be found blogging about some of the writing that she is avoiding doing at arialerendeair.tumblr.com.
Like a dragon with her hoard, she can be found in her New Hampshire apartment, surrounded by notebooks (most of which are empty), half-filled mugs of tea, and some of the comfiest blankets that have ever existed. Disturb her at your own risk, especially during NaNo Season.

Story Teaser:
“You ready?” Athos asked, pretending to sip the coffee.
D’art sighed and gave him a look. “You hired me for this. You should know that even with all my teasing, I am a professional.”
“So you are,” Athos agreed. “That’s why we’re planning to offer you a position on the team when we’re finished.”
D’art was quiet for a long moment as they stepped into the elevator and hit the button for the 39th floor. He could feel Athos studying him. Assessing his reaction to the offer, maybe. “You have a policy against dating people you work with?”
Athos blinked and sighed. “D’art—”
“Crimson,” Porthos’s voice hissed into the mic.
D’art froze, eyes widening. Over the comms, a crackle and the sound of the earpiece being shattered under a heel came. “Shit.”

a study in portamis (2023 martin bourboulon's ver)
it took me two days and one night to get my own version of terrible clickbait what actually happened in the 'milady' about the whole promising portamis thing (whatever it was).
this post contains film spoilers! no, i'm serious, SPOILER ALERT. (i know the film hasn't been released in all countries yet, so if you haven't seen 'milady', please decide whether you want to read this or not).
my post is dedicated to all the people who have seen 'the three musketeers: milady' or found out about what was going to happen in the film and were heartbroken (for obvious reasons), so I couldn't sleep until the morning, but I did find out why /spoiler, spoiler, SPOILER/ porthos decided to marry aramis's pregnant sister.
yes, i know. it will take me a moment to experience that as well.
OK, here's what we've got. the simplest explanation is this: porthos is flirting with aramis' sister in the camp because he is bored/he wants sex/he wants to flirt/etc. yes, this characterisation portrays him as a frivolous character, but what if this is a fallacy? what if there is still love for aramis in his actions and i can prove it?
___________________________________________________________
i started by formulating the three main reasons why i can't agree with the 'i don't care who i seduce' version of porthos.
first of all: the events of the film unfold very quickly. in the first part, it was made clear to us that porthos has no shortage of lovers. we saw his bed once, and it was warmed for him by both man and woman. he also said that he doesn't sleep with fools, which is not to be taken literally. in any case, this gives us the idea that he has his own standards, that he will not sleep with the first person he meets to quench his thirst. yes, he examined d'artagnan from head to toe, but did he drag him into bed? in general, he knows how to stop and he will be able to restrain himself if the situation demands it.
second reason: you can throw a stone at me, but I swear that his lover in the awakening scene looks a lot like aramis. no, it's not because this man has a beard or curly hair like aramis. there's something in his jaw, his features are built like the aramis-coded type of man. you know what i mean. porthos' lover is literally not d'artagnan-coded, not athos-coded. his lover has a certain type of body/face build. and that type is the same as his best friend's. this is no coincidence.
so, having worked out why i just couldn't accept the fact that porthos suddenly fell in love with a girl (aramis' sister, i'm not going to hinting at anything… because i'm saving the last reason for the finale), i asked myself: why did he decide to get involved? what drove him?
here is my answer:
when aramis received a note from his mother telling him that his sister was pregnant, he immediately changed his face and went to see her. at the same time, porthos immediately noticed the change in his friend's face and tried to call aramis, but aramis did not answer. what did porthos do? without further ado, he immediately went after aramis.
micro-conclusion: he cares about aramis' feelings, he cares about him and he wants to help him.
OK, let's move on. we know how the episode of portamis meeting matilda's fiancé ended: zero result. literally. apart from the fact that the bastard was hit by a cannonball, the meeting had no result. again, what was porthos doing at the time? he asked aramis what he was going to do. he predicted that aramis would challenge an arrogant and dishonest groom to a duel. spoiler alert: he was right. where are his 1000 ecu?? ok, i'm kidding. but here are the facts: he looks after aramis again, tries to cheer him up. and from their conversations it's clear how well he knows aramis.
let's keep going. we're almost there!
porthos has been excluded from scenes involving athos or d'artagnan (let's ignore the scenario that made this happen). at first glance, it would seem that he was not involved in his friends' affairs for no reason. but no, he was wounded (there was a scene in the camp where he was leaning on a crutch) and drunk. in fact, we got a scene where aramis holds a dead drunk porthos, who relieves himself, by the cape, without feeling disgust. what do i mean by that? while aramis, athos and d'artagnan were chasing after milady, porthos, who had remained in the military camp, had time to think carefully about everything. in both sober and drunk mind.
yes, porthos is not as tricky as aramis. and not as cold-blooded as athos. he sees the problem: aramis is very upset that someone has dishonoured his sister. had it not been for an accidental death, the would-be bridegroom would have lived and not taken matilda as his wife, for to him she was obviously a one-time entertainment. aramis is upset, he is sad, and how can porthos help? (yes, he comforted matilda by giving her a made-up explanation, as if her fiancé had been a hero and had saved aramis and porthos from a cannonball, but that was not enough, it only solved the problem temporarily). how to end all this? what can he do? matilda is pregnant, she is not rich, no one loves her, he tells himself that he can do this, he can offer her his hand and his heart, and he will save her (and aramis). it will make his best friend happy again. this is the right thing to do. they will be more than brothers. isn't that the best scenario? aramis will be happy and they will become a family.
attention, now it's time to announce the third fact that doesn't allow me to bury my portamis hopes: when porthos talks to aramis about this decision, aramis doesn't look happy at all.
moreover, his face was masked in confusion.
the scene also ends with them unable to talk about it. porthos is taken away by aramis's sister, his future wife, and all goes well. aramis should be happy. but why isn't he? and porthos, too.
something tells me that this is because his subconscious chooses lovers for him who are similar to aramis, because he tries to make aramis happy, because he cares for him, because he wants the best for him, because he loves him.
i think at that moment, when the words of the forthcoming wedding are heard and there is a sad atmosphere between them, like at a funeral, they both think that maybe all this time their feelings for each other were something more.

The Super Mega Awesome Rapier and Smallsword Timeline!
What’s up, fellow nerds. Do you love long, stabby swords? Do you like swashbuckling adventure stories? Ever wondered what your favorite book and movie characters’ swords are actually supposed to look like? Do you do Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) and have you ever self-consciously wondered if your practice weapon is really from the same time period as the style you’re studying (it is? Are you sure about that?)? Ever wanted to get a sword to train with that your favorite character plausibly could have wielded?
Well look no further! After way too many nights of copiously poring over descriptions in my favorite novels, Wikipedia pages, and the great AVB Norman’s The Rapier and the Smallsword, I have created a timeline of all 113 rapier and smallsword hilt types in Norman’s typology and plotted them on a timeline of the years 1470-1820. Also included are a timeline of the major Western wars in which these weapons would have been used on the battlefield, and a timeline of as many known historical fencing masters as I know of who taught the use of the rapier and smallsword, including their known years active if that information was available.
The centerpiece of this project, however, are the character timelines. Based on available evidence from their stories (either in the novels or movies themselves or gleaned from Wikipedia), I was able to create date ranges for the swords different characters would have used. By trimming copies of the Master Reference sheet, I could isolate the viable options for the swords of different characters, as well as contemporary historical sources that could be used as the basis for their fencing styles.
Characters analyzed include:
Inigo Montoya and Wesley from The Princess Bride
Athos, Porthos, Aramis and D’Artagnan from The Three Musketeers and Twenty Years After.
Cyrano de Bergerac
Señor Zorro from the original Zorro story, The Curse of Capistrano
Rapiers from the time of William Shakespeare
And so much more!
I also created pages for major HEMA disciplines, such as Italian rapier (Fabris, Giganti, Capoferro, and Alfieri), Destreza, and Bolognese sidesword, including individual authors for Destreza (my personal fencing style). Each hilt, if applicable, also has a list of modern HEMA training swords that conform to that type, so that you can see what your current training weapon is good for or find a training weapon to suit your discipline, aesthetic, or fantasy!
Feel free to peruse my work, or download your own copy to edit.
Pictures are not included, but can be found online with a quick google search. Or you can search “a.v.b. Norman rapier typology” in the tags and find reference images of most of these weapons that I’ve previously reblogged.
Also, @we-are-swashbuckler @historicalfightingguide @prideknights @malaguttifederico @we-are-knight I’m tagging y’all because I think y’all might enjoy this.

VeronaHills, Round One: Roseland
All good dogs want their humans to be happy and Porthos is no exception.
Cyd shares good news - he's quit his job as a bookie, and wants to become a doctor, perhaps even a veterinarian. Porthos approves. He would never judge Cyd for sticking with a life of crime, but his human seems happy, and that means they'll celebrate by watching a dog movie together!
Cyd has more news. To keep on top of bills while he studies medicine, he's got a housemate to move into the spare room in the trailer. Porthos is a little more neutral on this development and decides to observe the new human. She's clearly interested in Cleo, who's also new in town. He thinks her name is... Alex.
Throwing rich people off their yachts and stealing their jewels was fun. The law potentially catching up with her? Less fun. Alex came to shore, heard her former criminal colleague needed a housemate, and moved in by night to avoid running into anyone from her past. It's a foolproof hideout plan... until she runs into someone from her past. Specifically, a rich person she threw off a yacht. She admires the old bat for confronting her (with her fists!) but Alex happily hands her ass to her. And the gentleman accompanying her seems happy to watch. Yikes. She forgot how weird these small town people are...

Calista came home to her mom sitting tired at the table, a sandwich half-made in front of her.
When she saw Calista enter, she hurriedly put together the sandwich. Calissta made herself one as well, and sat down across from her mother.
"Calista, I have a hard request to ask of you. Someone who I know from the academy called me today. He asked that you go on a date with his son. I'm sorry, I couldn't say no, he didn't leave me any time. And you know how hard it is for me to go against anyone from the academy."
"I'll do it. I can handle one date. What time?"
"Tommorrow. At seven, at the Restraunt Sivario"
Calista nodded, and they ate the rest of their sandwiches in silence.
Sebastian knelt before his father, Llynel.
"Tommorow you will be having a date with the daughter of one of my friends from the academy. You will be at Sivario at a quarter to seven."
"Yes, father." Sebastian said. Right upon leaving his father's study, Sebastian's brothers came up to him.
"So, Chin, I heard you got a date. Finally," Aster said.
"Only because dad set it up for you," Raythier said.
Sebastian smiled his awkward smile.
"But the date will still be up to him. Need some pointers?" Aster said.
"I'll be fine, thank you."
"We at least need to help you get dressed," Jochlan said. Sebastian nodded.
Calista was walking home from her long shift at work. She was thinking of all the homework she had to do. She looked at her watch. 6:40. She had a good few hours to get a chunk knocked out. Oh. The date. She had to get all the way downtown, a thirty minute walk.
She turned around and picked upon the pace. The quicker she got to the stupid date, the quicker it would get over.
Sebastian arrived in a new tailored suit, with a sword at his side at Sivario at precisely 6:45. He walked in.
"Table for two, please. In the best table for date," Sebastian says.
The server leads Sebastian to a table secluded in the corner.
"Could I ask for the name of the person you are waiting for?"
"Calista Porthos."
The server nodded, and turned to leave.
"Could you bring out the best wine you have?" Sebastian asked.
"I will warn you. Our best wine costs ten thousand coin, more expensive than a young person such as you should be spending on a date."
"I have room for it in my budget, worry not."
The server nodded.
Calista arrived at Restraunt Sivario at 7:12, in her sweatshirt and pants, her hair a mess.
"Can I help you?" the server asked.
"I'm supposed to be here for a date. I'm late." Calista said.
"Are you Calista Porthos?"
Calista nodded.
She followed the server back to a corner of the restaurant. She sat down across from Sebastian, in his full suit. She hurriedly brushed back her hair.
"Hello, Calista," Sebastian said. "It is great to meet you."
Calista nodded and got seated. "I don't think I know your name. And sorry I'm late, my shift went longer than scheduled."
"No worries about that, I'm glad you were able to make it. I'm Sebastian Ernos."
Calista looked at the wine glass in front of her, and the wine glass in front of Sebastian.
"I don't really drink," she said.
Sebastian nodded. He waved the waiter over.
"Could you please take away the wine?" Sebastian said.
Both of them sat in silence as the waiter took away the glasses and the bottle, and then they watched him carry the tray away.
"What hobbies do you have?" Sebastian asked.
"Reading, although I haven't read a good book in a while," Calista said. "What about you?"
"I'm not sure. I'm on a quiz bowl team and I fence." He brushed his hand through his hair, showing his Academy tattoo on his forehead.
The same tattoo Calista's mother always tried to hide.
The waiter brought out two menus.
Sebastian looked at it quickly, then set it down.
"Manwa al Lain, is that some sort of sheep meat?" Calista asked.
"I think so. It's a meat that's covered in sauce with herbs sprinkled on top, I've never been certain of the meet, but it has a texture consistent of that of lamb."
The waiter returned "Are you ready to order?"
After Calista nodded, Sebastian did as well.
"I'd like the Scalia Noodles," he said.
"Could I get the Chicken Lamni?" Calista asked.
The server nodded and wrote down the orders.
After the server left, the two started talking about their respective schools, starting with what classes they were each in.
"Linear algebra is my favorite class I've ever taken, although that might just be because we get to do some very cool proofs in it at my school," Calista said. "It's a lot of work though."
"I have to take it next year, and I'm not looking forward to it. I prefer the more concrete subjects to math."
"If you don't like math why are you taking linear? I really enjoyed it, but that's specifically because I enjoy math."
"The Academy requires it to graduate."
"Of course it does," Calista says.
The server brings out their food.
Calista unrolls the silverware napkin to find three forks, two of which are identical, and the third a smaller version. She decided to use the small fork, for fun.
Sebastian ate his meal, trying to match the pace of Calista. She was awkward in eating it, poking at it at first, and so Sebastian ate small bites, and took breaks so that she wouldn't still be eating long after she finished.
Calista ate fast once she had tried everything, she found it all to her liking except whatever leaf they put on the side of the meat.
Sebastian than ate faster, trying to match Calista's speed. But, bound by the constraints of manners he had learned, he found he could not reach her pace.
And so, caught in this dilemma, Sebastian had to make a choice. He took bigger forkfuls of noodles, put them into his mouth even with noodles already there.
"You really love those noodles, huh?" Calista asked.
Sebastian waited while chewing the huge glob of food inside his mouth. Once he finally swallowed, he replied "They're my favorite thing at this restaurant."
By this point, Calista had finished three-quarters of her meal, and Sebastian two-thirds. Sebastian had forgotten just how many noodles the bowl held.
He ended up taking an extra two minutes to finish after Calista had scraped the last of the sauce off her plate.
The server came by and took the plates, "Shall I bring you a desert menu?"
Sebastian looked at Calista.
Calista was staring at Sebastian.
"What would you like?" Sebastian asked.
"Nothing tonight," Calista said.
The server nodded, and left to get the bill.
"Would you like me to walk with you to your car? I know the parking around here is a mess," Sebastian said.
"I walked here"
"If you want, I could drive you home."
"That would be nice, thank you."
The server brought out the check. 10,321 coin. Sebastian took the receipt and signed it. He touched his wrist to the chip reader, the standard tip he gave automatically deducted. He nodded his thanks to the server and they left.
Sebastian and Calista walked outside to the side of the building. While calling his car down, Sebastian also increased the tip percent, as he had found the server very helpful.
His car floated down from its parking spot on the roof. Immediately once it rested on the ground, Sebastian opened the passenger side door for Calista.
Once they were both in the car, and Calista's address was plugged in as the destination, Calista apologized to Sebastian.
"I'm sorry for cutting the date short, I've got a lot of homework to get caught up on."
"It's alright." Sebastian said. "It didn't seem like you were enjoying the time either."
"The restraunt was too fancy. I felt like I didn't fit in there."
"Really? My brothers agreed that it was the best place in the city for a date. But I guess they can be wrong."
"How about this," the words were slipping out of Calista's mouth before she had thought them through. "I'm free this Saturday for lunch. I'll show you my favorite date spot, it's a little sandwich shop."
Sebastian and Calista exchanged phone numbers, and the car beeped that it had reached its destination.
"I'll text you the time and place, thanks for driving me," Calista said while exiting the car.
Once she entered her house, Calista texted her friend, Iris. "i think i've got a second date with a guy on saturday"
Sebastian drove away, thinking about Saturday. He'd have to skip the award banquet, but he'd sat through the three previous years' ceremonies.

MASTERLIST
For now only on Wattpad ... I know not the best plattform for fanfictions (One Shots) but it feels like home to me for some reason, so like... yeah.
Tumblr media
I mainly write One Shots (if I have time) and barely bigger projects but I have one for now. (July 28th 22) It is not finished yet and not fully rewritten and reread but... yeah. Idk what to say. It is about the Magnificent 7 from 2016, so probably not a lot of peoples cup of tea.
ANYWAYS, here is the masterlistof all of my finished One Shots, kind of a shortcut, so you don't have to scroll through my whole Wattpad account.

This Masterlist is fully updated as I try to add every fanfiction as soon as I post it on Wattpad! English is not my first language, so please don't hurt me. I am trying my best.
I would have added more pictures and or gifs to my masterlist, but there is this annoying 10 picture limit on tumblr 😭 so I can't.
You need to know about me, that I LOVE pictures and gifs and shit, and I will throw as many of them into any type of media I post as I can! They make me happy, and it saddens me that I have a limit here, but oh well what can I do. (Do I sound like a child? Because in my head the shit I just wrote sounded really childish??? help???)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have like 20 unfinished works in my inbox, but I have like 0 time to write bc. I am like failing at life rn, and I gotta get that under control, so be patient please. (As if anyone even reads my shit 😭 why am I acting like a celebrity, and why am I so... cringe???)
Shoot me please.
Anyways, here is my linktree.

Sicktember #20
Prompt #20: Cold Sweat
Fandom: Musketeers
Title: An Off-Day
Summary: When the best shot in the regiment is having a bit of an off-day, Porthos gets to the bottom of what’s troubling him.
CW: Brief discussion of 'throwing up', but nothing is mentioned and no character does so.
Aramis was known throughout the Musketeer garrison as the best shot in service to the King, and Porthos and D’Artagnan had spent the previous day extolling this virtue to the recruits they were training in shooting, the former even going so far as to call Aramis the best marksman in all of France. So the next morning, when this same marksman failed to hit the bullseye dead center on the first shot as promised, spirits in Treville’s garrison were a bit dampened, to say the least.
Aramis did, calmly and surely, take up his musket again and deliver a second shot that struck the center, but subsequent shots in his demonstration proved that his aim that day was a bit wanting of such a bold title. It was when a shot missed the center ring entirely that Porthos set aside his chagrin and studied his friend worriedly, noticing immediately the pallor of his cheeks and the minute tremors which shook his fingers.
“Aramis?”
“Pardon me, gentlemen,” Aramis said, dragging a hand across his brow and swaying a bit. He rested the butt of his musket in the dirt, but Porthos knew it must be an attempt at balancing himself. “I’m feeling a bit under the weather this morning.”
“Why don’t you go have a seat in the shade?” Porthos waved in the direction of the stables and the trees nearby, hoping that his voice was level enough not to convey his concern to the recruits. “I’ll be there in a moment.”
Aramis tipped his hat and took his leave without another word, which made worry snake down Porthos’s spine. D’Artagnan cast a worried look after the man as he left; even Aramis’s retreating footsteps seemed lethargic and uneven.
“He must really be feeling bad,” D’Artagnan said lowly as the recruits loaded their muskets for another round, and all Porthos could do was nod. He helped D’Artagnan set up the targets for the next drill and made sure the young man was alright and understood what the training schedule was, before giving the Gascon a nod. D’Artagnan sent Aramis his well wishes, and Porthos set off in the direction of the stables that Treville would likely have him mucking out for the next month as punishment for leaving D’Artagnan alone to supervise the recruit’s target practice, but a month’s worth of horse dung was the least of Porthos’s worries at the present moment.
Porthos found Aramis tucked away on a bench in the shade near the stables, listing sideways into a wall. His head rested heavily against the stone, his hat pulled over his eyes and squashed against the wall. He did not react when Porthos removed the hat to get a better look at his color, which had not improved a bit since Aramis had left the practice yards.
“What’s the matter?” Porthos said, setting the hat aside carefully and kneeling in the dust in front of him. “You look awful.”
Aramis’s eyes were shut tight, his mouth turned down. “As I’ve said I…” He blew out a shaky breath. “I’m not feeling very well.”
“Yeah, that I can tell.” Porthos patted his knee. “But what else is bothering you?” He noticed the sheen of sweat on Aramis’s face, and brushed his fingers across the man’s forehead, finding the pale skin to be unhealthily cool and clammy. Aramis trembled with shivers, and so Porthos shrugged out of his jacket and tucked it around Aramis’s shoulders. He was growing disturbed at how Aramis’s eyes had remained resolutely shut through it all. “Let’s get you back to bed.”
Aramis shook his head woozily. “Not yet.”
“Aramis,” Porthos said sharply, “there is no way you’re going back on duty like this.”
“No, I mean, not yet,” Aramis repeated. His eyelids fluttered. “No moving yet.”
“Oh,” Porthos said, his heart rate calming, feeling a bit guilty. He noticed the way Aramis was swaying slightly, even seated. “Do you feel dizzy?”
“Mm.”
“Like you might faint?”
Aramis hummed again. “Possibly.”
Porthos glimpsed the harsh and almost convulsive way Aramis was swallowing, and revised his line of questioning. “Or do you feel like you might throw up?” Aramis said nothing and merely, if at all possible, grew even paler. “Aramis? Am I in jeopardy?”
After a long moment of silence, Aramis’s eyes opened to slits. “Don’t think so…” he said in a weak voice, the smile he tried for emerging as more of a grimace. “But I hope you aren’t particularly attached to those boots just in case.”
“I’ll have you know they’re new,” Porthos said, wagging a finger, “so you better be truthful with me.”
Aramis shut his eyes again, and tipped his body back against the wall. “In that case it’s probably best we don’t try to head for my rooms right now.” Somehow, despite his eyes not being open, Porthos’s worried glare captured his attention, and he added, “It’ll pass.”
Porthos rolled his eyes and sighed. “Should’ve known you weren’t well the moment you missed that first shot.”
“Missed?” Aramis affixed Porthos with a deeply offended look, pressing a hand dramatically to his heart. He swallowed again, and shivered.  “I did not miss.”
“You glanced the center ring,” Porthos reminded him gently. “For you, that’s a miss.”

Mary is the childhood friend of Constance Bonacieux. After the death of her Father at ten years old, she became interested in studying medicine, so that no one else would have to watch their loved one suffer and die. Mary’s Mother taught her various subjects at home despite criticism from the outside world. She wanted her daughter to make the most of her life. Mary studied with Ninon de Larroque for a time and eventually was hired by the town Doctor as his assistant. She is well regarded and liked by most (though some don’t like that she is educated) and spends most of her time assisting the doctor with patients or seeing local children with ailments on her own. Mary’s friendship and bond with Constance has remained strong, and aside from the Musketeers, she trusts her more than anyone.

Meet the Contributors to Our Next Anthology!
The time has come: we're ready to share the contributor list for our forthcoming anthology Aim For The Heart: Queer Fanworks Inspired by Alexandre Dumas's "The Three Musketeers"!
Tumblr media
For this collection, 15 artists and 21 authors have created fanart, original art, fanfiction, and original fiction inspired by the adventures of Athos, Porthos, Aramis, and d'Artagnan. We have been hard at work on this anthology since last fall, and we're anticipating a crowdfunding launch in late spring or early summer. We'll have lots of teasers, excerpts, a cover reveal, merchandise announcements, and more to come, but first - meet the creators!
Artists
Aceriee: Hi! I’m Aceriee and I draw sometimes. I’ve been drawing all my life, but after falling into the Supernatural fandom in 2014 I’ve mostly focused on fanart. (Instagram | Tumblr | Twitter)
Cris Alborja: I’m an illustration and comic artist from Spain. I’ve got a nursing degree, but I decided to pursue my passion. I have studied Illustration at EASD Pablo Picasso in A Coruña and comics at O Garaxe Hermético in Pontevedra. I have done cover art for an anthology called Infiniteca by Retranca Editorial and comics for Altar Mutante, Nai dos Desterrados, and Abraxas en Cuarentena fanzines, as well as in Gaspariño 21 by Retranca Editorial. (Instagram)
bloomingtea: Téa is a hypothetical writer and artist, a professional procrastinator, and a merch hoarder. When they aren’t working on personal projects, they moderate zines and bake the same loaf of bread over and over again. From their pile of WIPs, they’ve managed to self-publish one book and are currently working on other manuscripts to eventually release into the world. Until then, they remain the worst gamer on Twitch and like to spend their free time ranting about books and thinking about fictional lawyer video games. (Personal Website | Twitter)
C: A massive drinker of coffee and a lover of old TV shows and movies, C is a small-time concept artist and illustrator who likes to dabble in all things literature and history. When she’s not busy drawing and nodding along to Bruce Springsteen while researching the Kentucky Cave Wars, she’s trying to save up for grad school to become to a forensic artist so she can draw some more. (Tumblr)
Amy Fincher: Amy Fincher (she/her) is a producer and artist with over a dozen years of experience in the video game and animation industries. She has contributed to various AAA and indie titles, including the Civilization, XCOM, and Skylanders series. Amy is currently working on Open Roads as Executive Producer. When the mood strikes and time allows, she teaches art classes and takes on art commissions on the side. Her hobbies include learning aerial silks, collecting aesthetically pleasing empty containers, looking at shiny rocks, and taking very long naps.
Kou Lukeman: Kou Lukeman is an artist, composer, writer, and video-game developer. His long-term goal is to someday lead a video-game company that makes video games by queer and neurodivergent people. Kou identifies as queer, neurodivergent, and is proud to be both. He is an avid Final Fantasy 14 player, a huge Kingdom Hearts fan, and video games have inspired Kou to create from a very young age. While his main creative interests tend to be in queer and neurodivergent horror, Kou also dabbles in fantasy as a genre. He is currently working on releasing his first few games and a graphic horror novel about neurodiversity and queer people in society. (Instagram)
Giulia Malagoli:
Giulia Malagoli (she/they) got into art because of generally friendly competition with a classmate in middle school, and now she has an entire Bachelor’s Degree in Concept Art to show for it.
For about ten years, she has been hopping through fandom spaces—from video games, to comics, to movies and TV series—and has drawn inspiration from each of them for both fan and original art. The result is a passion for character design and for art that weaves a story into its visuals, with a whole lot of feelings about the role of The Narrative to boot.
To chase this passion Giulia has moved from their home country of Italy to the United Kingdom and back again. They now work as a freelance illustrator with enthusiasm, always scraping some time at the end of the day to keep up with fandom friends. (ArtStation | Twitter)
MidnightSilver: I’m MidnightSilver (They/Them). I’m a freelance artist who specialises in fandom art, most often inspired by Supernatural the TV show, and I can usually be found illustrating stories for independent authors—my favourites are those that combine adventure/magic/horror with a boatload of feels! As a bi, non-binary, mixed-race person, I don’t believe in restrictive boundaries, and I love tales that highlight diversity and freedom of expression while at the same time incorporating the fantastical and magical elements that I fell in love with when reading stories as a child. It’s my aim to take all the many wondrous worlds and people with whom we visit when lost in book pages at 2 o’clock in the morning and to share them with you in visual form. It’s a project I never tire of pursuing. (Archive of Our Own | deviantArt)
Queen Sponge Studios: Thanks for reading my bio! My name is Sponge, and I use they/them pronouns! I am currently studying for a Game Arts degree through online courses at SNHU. Along with working at a thrift store, I enjoy working on projects with others. Based in Northern Wisconsin, I majorly entertain myself through art and media pertaining to it. On the long list of my hobbies, I enjoy staying active as well as collecting. I am an avid, crazed Sanrio fanatic with a long list of fandoms dating all the way back to when I was ten. I may be more reserved, but I love making new connections through creation! Meeting like-minded individuals working toward a common goal has been the most fulfilling experience I have had to date. As a young artist, I have dabbled in vending at conventions, game art, and selling my own merchandise online. I hope to one day fully chase after my ambitions of artistry full-time through a studio! Thank you for your support and interest in my work! (Etsy | Instagram | TikTok)
Jennifer Smith: Smith has been drawing since a young age. With a focus in traditional drawing techniques, she has recently started using digital mediums to imitate traditional styles. Her focus is in portraiture and landscapes, especially with watercolor. You can find more of her art on her Tumblr. (Tumblr)
Toby.exe: Freelance Animator and Illustrator based in the UK. He/They LGBTQ+ friendly little goblin who plays excessive amounts of DnD and loves to play Live Action Roleplay events all over the country! If I am not at home drawing, I am out and about playing a variety of fantasy characters in the woods and hitting people with silly foam swords. (Personal Website | Instagram | Patreon | Twitter)
Jupiter V: Hailing from Kjipuktuk/Halifax, Nova Scotia (that’s in Canada), Jupiter V is an artist, musician, and creative crackerjack with a career spanning over a decade. Cutting their teeth designing award-winning gig posters, they’ve gone on to illustrate for film, graphic fiction, children’s literature, and more. At times, they have been caught painting murals at the circus (?!) and whooping their child mercilessly in Rivals of Aether.
Jupiter is currently toiling away at their next graphic work of fiction, Wizards 99k, as we speak. (Instagram)
Amy Alexander Weston: Alex, AKA foxymoley, (she/her) is best described as a jack of all trades, but practices digital art more than anything else. She just wants to make things and change the world for the better. (Archive of Our Own | Instagram | Tumblr)
Amalia Zeichneren: Amalia Zeichnerin (she/her) lives in Hamburg, Germany. She is a disabled queer woman with a chronic illness and lives in a polyam polycule. Amalia mostly writes original fiction (SFF, cosy Victorian mysteries, Queer Romance) in German and has also one English Star Wars fan fiction on AO3, with one of her favorite shippings, StormPilot. Amalia also likes to draw and paint, especially fantasy world maps, character portraits, and sometimes also fanart. Amalia’s hobbies include pen-and-paper RPG and LARPing; these also have inspired some of her writing and artworks. (Linktree)
Jagoda Zirebiec: Hiya! I’m Jagoda or MizuShiba. I am a game dev artist currently working on a few unannounced titles. In my spare time I love to join collaborative projects like this, or charity Zines. This is my first project with DPP and hopefully not last!
I’m located in Poland and currently live here with my family. Aside from art, I’m interested in collecting dice and playing ttrpgs with friends. (ArtStation | Tumblr | Twitter)
Authors
Len Amin: Len Amin was brought up living between worlds in her small suburban town in the Midwest throughout the year, and summering frequently to visit her Palestinian Family living in the West Bank. Her family is larger-than-life in true Arabian fashion, including a very prissy puppy named Charles who refuses to sleep alone and chews up all of her sister’s barbie dolls. Though never quite feeling like she belonged in either world, she instead fell in love with the stories with the people that resided in these places—how the humanity can be found so effortlessly if one just delved that bit deeper into someone’s “once upon a time.” Etching down words into her flower-printed journals and shuffling a fresh spread from her star-printed tarot deck for her friends were always her way to connect to someone and to open up that channel of understanding. Len is now about to hit her mid-twenties, and has nothing to lose as she strives for her Social Work degree while also focusing on her true passion of writing her first full-length novel. You can find the updates on her writing journey, and support her endeavors on her Tumblr page. (Archive of Our Own | Tumblr | Twitter)
Aria L. Deair: Aria L.
(Discord: Dragon#5555 | Tumblr | Twitter)
E. V. Dean: E. V. Dean is a writer with a decade of fanfiction writing under her belt. She’s embarking on her original fiction adventure with the angst tag kept within arm’s reach. Her favorite excuse not to write is watching Jeopardy. (Instagram | Tumblr)
Rhosyn Goodfellow: Rhosyn Goodfellow is an author of queer romance and speculative fiction living with her spouse and two dogs in the Pacific Northwest, where she is sad to report that she has not yet mysteriously disappeared or encountered any cryptids. Her hobbies include spoiling the aforementioned dogs, drinking inadvisable amounts of coffee, and running unreasonably long distances very slowly. She’s secretly just a collection of loosely-related stories dressed up in a meat suit. (Personal Website | Instagram | Mastodon | Tumblr | Twitter)
Catherine E. Green: Catherine E. Green (pronouns: xe/xem/xyr or they/them/their) is an agender person, one who’s had an on-again, off-again love affair with writing. Xe began writing when xe was a wee thing, when xyr other major pastimes were playing xyr mother’s NES and roughhousing with the boys next door. It’s only in the past few years that they have begun writing consistently and publishing their writing, fanfiction and original writing alike, leading to their first published short story titled “Of Loops and Weaves.”
Outside of writing, xe is a collector of books and sleep debt and an avid admirer of the cosmos. Playing video games, reading a variety of fiction genres (primarily fantasy, queer romance, and manga and graphic novels of all kinds), and working on wrangling their own personal data archiving projects occupy most of their free time. Xe has also started meeting up with a local fiber arts group and is excited to be crocheting xyr first scarf.
J. D. Harlock: J.D. Harlock is a Syrian-Lebanese-Palestinian writer and editor based in Beirut. In addition to his posts at Wasifiri, as an editor-at-large, and at Solarpunk Magazine, as a poetry editor, his writing has been featured in Strange Horizons, Star*Line, and the SFWA Blog. You can always find him on Twitter and Instagram posting updates on his latest projects. (Instagram | Twitter)
A. L. Heard: A. L. Heard is an aspiring writer from Pittsburgh. She’s been writing fanworks for over a decade and self-published her first novel, Hockey Bois, in 2021. Some of her short stories have been published through the indie press Duck Prints Press, where she also contributes as an editor. Ultimately, though, she spends her free time writing about characters she adores in worlds she’d like to explore: contemporary romance, historical fiction, science fiction, and fantasy. In between writing projects, she works as a language teacher, plays hockey, tours breweries with her boyfriend, and spends her evenings playing dinosaurs with her two sons. (Instagram | Twitter)
D. A. Hernández: AKA Mitch, an author who works as a teacher, reads fanfiction compulsively, tells anyone who will listen about their weird dreams, takes long naps, and once in a while manages to write a story or two. You can find another of their stories in the Duck Prints Press anthology She Wears the Midnight Crown.
Mitch’s playlist includes metal, pop, electronic, bluegrass, reggaeton and cumbia. (Twitter)
R. L. Houck: R. L. Houck (she/her) still has one of the first stories she ever wrote, all the way back from elementary school. It was about flightless penguins reaching the sun and was a good indication of her boundless imagination and her love of animals. The latter became a full-time veterinary career; the former keeps her occupied with fanfiction and original fiction in her downtime.
She’s sometimes found wandering the woods around her house in Virginia with her dog. If not there, she’s sitting on the couch, catching up on a Netflix series, and smothered by her five cats. Sometimes, there’s even space for her wife. (TikTok)
Lucy K. R.: Lucy K.R. (she/her) is technically in existence. Every time she is free, she writes. Sometimes when she is not free she also writes. This has occasionally created problems. She is fortunate to be supported (read: enabled) by her enthusiastic fiancée Tomo, a loving OG family, and a lively found family as well.
Eager for a change after a decade of waitressing, Lucy K.R. took the chance in March of 2021 to make her first steps into the world of published work. Prior to the success of the largely-fabricated German translation of the short-story found in this collection, ‘die Karaoke-Königinnen’, she was best known for her work on Mageling: Rise of the Ancient Ones and in the Duck Prints Press anthologies “And Seek (Not) to Alter Me” and “She Wears the Midnight Crown”.
In her stories, Lucy K. enjoys writing evil ideas as gently as possible, portrayed through unexpected lenses. She would like to acknowledge that she has never written a biographical statement that did not turn out weird, beg your indulgence, and express her hope that you enjoy her work in this anthology. The people at Duck Prints Press have been a delight, and she is deeply grateful to be included! (Personal Website | Twitter)
Aeryn Jemariel Knox: Aeryn Jemariel Knox first identified as a writer in second grade. With both parents involved in theater and a house full of bookshelves, they grew up surrounded by stories, and as soon as they could hold a crayon, they felt the urge to tell their own. In 2001, they discovered the wide and wonderful world of fanfiction; since then, they have gone by Jemariel in fandom spaces across the internet, engaging with their favorite media and communities in the best way they know. Previous fandoms include Harry Potter, Star Trek (The Original Series), Torchwood, and BBC’s Sherlock, but their most prolific writing and strongest community ties are in the Supernatural fandom. Now, nearly a decade after their last original fiction attempt, Aeryn is eager to explore the wider writing word.
A native of Portland, Oregon, Aeryn currently lives in the suburbs with their husband and 16-year-old cat. For a day job, they work as a tech writer and general paper-pusher for an energy drink factory. Their favorite stories, both to tell and to read, are stories about love, identity, and magic. (Archive of Our Own | Tumblr)
Annabeth Lynch: Annabeth Lynch is a genderfae (she/they), bisexual author who writes mostly queer stories, preferring to write marginalized characters finding love. She lives in North Carolina with her husband, daughter, and two very overweight cats. (Facebook | Instagram)
Sebastian Marie: Sebastian Marie (he/him) is an engineering student with a penchant for writing off-the-wall fantasy, darkly comedic prose, and sickeningly indulgent short stories. He has a lot of opinions about dragons, pirates, and sword fighting. Track him down on Ao3 and he’ll share these opinions through fanfiction for various fandoms including BBC Merlin, The Mechanisms, and Our Flag Means Death. His original works often combine fantasy and dystopia into what he calls “queer fantasy hopepunk,” something that will be explored in his future novels. He loves to write conflicting traditional and non-traditional family dynamics, especially where they intersect with queer relationships. And if he can throw werewolves and brujas into the mix? So much the better. When not writing, frantically studying dirt, or reading, he can be found singing loudly, sewing impractical coats, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and going on long rambling walks while plotting stories (and occasionally falling into rivers).
This is his second time writing for Duck Prints Press, having previously contributed to She Wears the Midnight Crown. This brings his grand total of published works up to two! He’s looking forward to more, as soon as he gets some sleep. (Archive of Our Own | Tumblr)
Nova Mason: Nova Mason spent a significant portion of her childhood fantasizing about dragons, spaceships, and other worlds. She is now, allegedly, a grown-up, with two kids, and more varied interests. Dragons, spaceships, and other worlds are still pretty high in the list, though.
Sage Mooreland: Sage Mooreland (they/them) is a city-dwelling gremlin from Chicago. They are embarking on the adventure that is their 40s equipped with three amazing partners, one very ridiculous eighteen-year-old biological offspring, and a fleet of teenagers and twentysomethings that adopted them through work over the last several years. Sage put themselves through the torture of grad school, and now holds a Bachelor’s in English and a Master’s in English and Creative Writing – Fiction, to which they say, “Now I have expensive pieces of paper that make it seem like I know what I’m talking about.”
Sage has been writing since they were wee small, entering their first writing contest in fifth grade/at ten years old. In high school and college, they made small offerings to school literary magazines, and have done eighteen years of National Novel Writing Month. As their writing career grows, they hope to provide stories that are entertaining, caring, inclusive of all, and full of the stuff of which dreams are made.
D. V. Morse: D. V. Morse (she/her) is a writer of fantasy and science fiction, generally (though not always) with some romance in there somewhere. She’s been in various aspects of healthcare for a couple of decades, most recently nursing. A lifelong New Englander who has been writing for as long as she can remember, she loves to find the liminal spaces in the local landscape and find the stories lurking within. She also loves playing with fiber arts, cycling through knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, and blackwork. She has also contributed to “Stand Where You’re Afraid,” in I Am the Fire, a limited edition charity anthology by a collective of SF/F romance authors raising funds for the National Network of Abortion Funds. (Carrd | Blog | Twitter | Facebook )
MouMouSanRen: MouMouSanRen (she/her) was born and raised on unceded Matinecock territory in what is now known as Flushing, New York. She has been published in multiple non-fiction magazines including Polygon. Aim for the Heart is her fiction debut. She resides in her native Queens, practicing martial arts and taking care of her dogs. (Twitter)
J. D. Rivers: J. D. writes speculative fiction where they fall deeply and madly in love and find a dead body, not necessarily in that order.
She collects hobbies as others collect books and has an unhealthy addiction to watching competitive cooking shows.
J. D. lives close to the woods with her husband and the cutest dog in the world. (Personal Website | Twitter)
Veronica Sloane: Veronica Sloane has authored a novel, several short stories, some poetry, and twenty-two years worth of fanfic. She lives with one lovely spouse, one rambunctious clever child, and one sleepy cat. (Archive of Our Own | Tumblr)
Shea Sullivan: Shea Sullivan is a life-long writer living in upstate New York. As a late-blooming queer person, she enjoys writing about complex characters coming into themselves and finding comfort in being exactly who they are.
Shea’s day jobs in computer programming and middle management have molded her into the patient, sarcastic, big-hearted, frustrated human she is today, but it’s what she does outside the 9-5 that really excites her. When she’s not writing, she can be found painting, napping, making quilts, watching documentaries, and trying not to adopt more animals, usually with a cup of tea in hand.
Xianyu Zhou: Xianyu Zhou is a translator and aspiring garment and plushie cloning specialist hailing from a coastal city in the tropics. Despite staying a 20-minute drive away from the nearest beach, they have yet to visited one, preferring to dwell in their darkened room luminated by a table lamp and ever-shifting RGB of a CPU fan. They have the tendency to accidentally wander into new and exciting forays such as joining Duck Prints Press (and enjoying it!), learning to sew (stitching and unstitching the same part of a “coaster” for the nth time) and working on their language skills (watching shows to scruntinize take notes about how their subtitles are written).
Xianyu’s contribution to the anthology is their first publication, and they have reportedly made a party hat for their computer to celebrate the occasion.
We couldn't be more thrilled to have all these amazing people working with us on this collection! You're not gonna want to miss what they've written and arted!
Make sure you sign up for our monthly newsletter and/or follow us on social media to always here the latest about Aim For The Heart and our other upcoming projects!
