I haven't posted in a while and this has been in my drafts for literal months. I saw so many people interacting with my posts and I've been getting quite a few follows lately, so I felt kind of bad😅 I wanted to post something at least.

Vocabulary & Phrases

부정적이다 = to be negative

기분이 안 좋다 = to not be in a good mood

우울하다 = depressed; melancholy; low-spirits

우울 = depression, melancholy

불안 = anxiety; uneasiness

불안을 느끼다 = feel anxious, feel anxiety

스트레스 = stress

스트레스를 받다 = to be stressed out (receive stress)

Underrated BOPS from Female Artists:

One of the more "happy" sounding solo songs from CL, I find it very apropos that the song title is "Lifted". I honestly live for this track. Baddest Female, Hello Bitches, and 멘붕 are songs that have more of the type of sound CL is known for in her solo work. But iconic and empowering as those songs are, I find that this lighter and poppier sound from CL makes for such a nice switch-up. And what it doesn't have in depth of lyrics (haha) it well makes up for in its catchy and addictive quality.

I never listened to Jo Yuri before this mini album, and the whole album is actually pretty great, including the title track Taxi. But by far, Lemon Black Tea is the best song (IMO) on Love All. It's a type of arrangement you don't encounter often in kpop with it's groovier tempo, and funky and oh so wonderful bass line. Jo Yuri's light and airy vocals float right on top perfectly. Lemon Black Tea sounds like how the drink it's named after tastes. Lightly sweet and citrus-y, with a subtle deeper undertone.

Taste of Love is hardly one of TWICE's more notable releases considering their absolutely massive (and popular) discography, but I will always have a soft spot for it given that it came out just as I got back into kpop. From the whole mini album, Baby Blue Love is the standout song for me and still is one of my personal favorite TWICE B-sides overall. It's got that very girly, catchy, and quintessentially pop sound that TWICE is most known for, and perfectly suited for the summer-theme of Taste of Love.

Heavy moment of silence for Fifty Fifty and their very regrettable downfall as a group. Cupid will never lose its status as legendary song within kpop, but some of Fifty Fifty's other great songs are all the more likely to not be highlighted post their troubles. And Lovin' Me deserves that spotlight. It's a great number with rich full-bodied harmonies that remind me of Imogen Heap, and a driving beat. I even love the corny Britney Spears Oops I Did It Again-style spoken interlude that somehow feels like only Fifty Fifty can pull off successfully.

Day 7 (23/11/23)🌟

why am i so emotional rn😭😭😭

okay, i skipped a day but yesterday it was a rollercoaster of emotions and I had a mental breakdown for so many reasons (one of them bangtan enlistment of course). i slept very few hours, skipped dinner and met again some childhood friends and I have so many memories with them and the feeling i won't be able to create new memories was a bit frustrating BUT i've learned how to say mental breakdown in korean: 멘붕

so today I started making some space in my mind and I want to create rules for my sleeping schedule (which is totally gone at the moment), eating habits and priorities. today I returned to my hometown and I met my family again i'm so happy!

uni things:

i've started the part of systemic syndromes for the infectious diseases exam (cytomegalovirus, mononucleosis, malaria and so on). 🦠

now i can say "my test is one month from now but i'm preparing in advance" in korean 시험이 아직 한 달 남았지만 미리 준비하고 있어요

Language things:

for CHINESE i completed the vocabulary part of my Superchinese lesson about hour, minutes, ... but I felt too tired to do the grammar part🥲🇨🇳

for JAPANESE i used apps like renshuu (which is a word that means practice, ive just found that!) and busuu for time related expressions. then I practiced with some tanaka san cute videos on yt about い and な adjectives. i like to learn new words especially in context so i usually practice with sentences🇯🇵

for KOREAN i just wrote in my tl journal about my feelings in this time. i wanted to practice with jungkook's letter on weverse to get something nice from this sad situation but I just couldn't. im gonna miss them a lot MY BOYS🇰🇷

in the weekend id like to focus only on my med studies and japanese, working out and then going to my friend's graduation party.

"아랍북 다르부카에 관한 메모"

벨리 댄스 수업 참여하는 동안 자연스레 몇몇 이집트 음악을 접했다. 그중 움 쿨숨(Umm Kulthum)이란 분이 가장 유명한 국민 가수이시라길래 유튜브에서 음반 몇 개를 찾아 약 반년에 걸쳐 틈틈히 들어봄.

월드 음악 중에서 알젠틴 땅고와 포르투갈 파두는 듣자마자 귀에 팍~ 꽂혔던 반면 아랍 음악은 예전부터 내 취향이 아님을 알고 있었기 때문에 이번에도 크게 다르진 않을 거라고 보고 시나브로 귀에 익을 때까지 어느 정도 여유를 뒀건만 역시나 실패.

하지만 벨리 댄스에서 중요한 타악기로 쓰이는 다르부카(Darbuka)만큼은 예외로 한번 듣고 꽃힘. 기원은 매우 오래돼 위키 백과에는 고대 이집트 및 메포소타미아(=바빌론, 수메르) 때까지 거슬러 올라 간다고 써 있다. 아마도 벽화나 부조에 비슷한 그림이 남아 있나 보다. 그런만큼 명칭도 다음과 같이 여럿이다.

(1) 다르부카(Darbuka) : 구글에는 '공격'을 의미하는 아랍어 'Darba'에서 기원했다고 나옴. 악기 연주를 들어보면 왜 공격적이란 명칭이 붙었는지를 충분히 납득.

(2) 고블릿 드럼(Goblet Drum) : 형태가 고블릿 잔(=와인 잔)처럼 생겼다고 해서 이렇게 부르는 듯.

(3) 따블라(Tabla) : 본래는 인도 대륙에서 기원한 거로 추정하는 (봉고처럼) 두개의 북을 한 쌍으로 묶어 부르는 명칭인데, 어떤 연유로 여기에 쓰였는지는 모르겠다.

(4) 둠벡(Doumbek) : 한국에서 장구 배울 때 '구음'이라고 해서 "덩기덕 덩 덕"과 같이 입으로 북소리를 재연하듯 이 동네 사람도 "둠 텍~텍 둠 텍"과 같은 게 있는데 이 전통에서 비롯한 명칭인 거 같다.

예전에 쓴 글에서 내가 악기 소유욕이 있다고 했듯, 다르부카도 구입했었다. 코로나가 한창 기승일 때 집에서 북이나 두드리려고… 유튜브에 '막숨', '발라디', '사이디' 등등 기본 리듬 정리해 놓은 자료가 있길래 따라서 몇 번 두드려 봄. 보기와 달리 난이도를 조금만 올리면 멘붕 오더만. 여기에서 더 나가려면 시간 투자를 엄청하지 않으면 안되겠단 느낌이 들었고, 한동한 구석에 방치해놨다가 벨리 댄스 쌤에게 줘버림.

당시 내가 주로 참고했던 기초 리듬 영상은 아르템 우즈노프(Artem Uzunov)란 연주자가 만든 콘텐츠였다. 미국에서 태어나 어린 시절을 모스크바에서 보냈단 거 외에는 구체적인 정보가 없다. 데뷔 음반은 2013년에 발매한 '함 해볼까(=Let's do it)'이고, 유튜브에 전곡이 올라와 있다.

네 번째 트랙에 '춤 추고 싶다(=I Wanna Dance)'란 곡이 있는데, 내가 수업 참여중인 벨리 댄스 쌤이 이곡에 맞춰 한 공연 영상이 있길래 허락받아 링크. 4년전 영상이건만, 이분도 방부제 미모임.

한국 해군 입대한 영국 대학생들: 첫째날부터 단체 멘붕

중단전 입문기

두어 달 전부터 본격적인 중단전 공부로 들어가고 나니 멘붕 하나, 숙제 하나씩 각각 실감. 우선 멘붕은 평소 수련하면서 종종 겪던 고질병인 나도 모르게 고개가 숙여지는 원인을 비로소 앎. 물론 원인을 안 거는 좋은 일이긴 하지만, 막상 알고 나면 어이없을 때가 많다는 점에서. 이 경우도 중단전을 이용해 함흉발배를 하기 전 충분한 척추전만 상태를 만들면(=함배발흉) 그 여파가 척추를 타고 올라가 목뼈까지 전해져 머리가 저절로 곧추 세워진다는 걸 비로소 깨달음. 여태까진 이걸 감으로만 시행했기 때문에 신경 쓰면 됐다가 정신줄 놔버리면 다시 원상태로 되돌아오는 짓을 반복하곤 했다. 매번 운동하면서 기분이 좋았다 나빴다 했던 이유도 이 때문이겠다. 이게 자기자신에게 좀 쪽팔린 거기도 한 것이 그동안 축을 바로 세우는 거는 나름 내공을 쌓았다고 자부했건만, 실상은 하단전만을 쓴 반쪽짜리였던 거. 진짜 허탈하고 짜증나고... 암튼 이 문제를 해결하면 개인적 숙원(?)인 두손 물구나무 서기 성공에 한층 다가가게 될 듯. 나아가 '중단전 CBM'을 쓸줄 제대로 쓸 수 있게 돼 또 하나 문제였던 땅고 추다 급하면 팔힘 쓰는 증상까지 자동 해결될 것은 명백해 보임.

숙제는, 예전엔 마음을 오직 하단전에만 집중하면 됐었다면 이제는 초점이 두 개가 생겨버림. 그래서 중단전에 집중하면 하단전이 느슨해지고, 하단전에 집중하면 예전 버릇이 그대로 나온다. 헐... 그러나 초점이 하나인 원 궤도보다 두 개인 타원 궤도가 한층 복잡하게 움직이듯, 가까운 미래에 몸이 이 원리를 이해하고 적응하면 다른 차원으로 도약하지 않겠냐는 기대를 하게 한다. 그 때 가서 보면 그동안 내가 전사경이라고 이해했던 게 고등학생이 초딩 산수 문제 봤을 때 느낌 정도로 여기지 않을까 싶음.
