Thinking some thoughts about Haleth of the Haladin and Haleth of Rohan

Haleth of the Haladin is a badass warrior and leader and woman all in one, and as such she embodies a lot of values that are also present in Rohan (especially in Eowyn 💕💖)

And Haleth of Rohan is a young boy who barely knows how to fight but he’s still gonna try. He exhibits bravery too, although he probably doesn’t feel very brave. And I have to wonder, does he know who his namesake is? Do the Rohirrim learn of Haleth?

Also, Haleth of Rohan is the son of Háma (our best boy Háma!) and Háma strikes me as more educated than some. It seems possible that he knows.

I have no idea where I’m going with this, I just love the parallel

Mohana still has her dispensary shop and stuff but she's also healer/medic at an underground fight club, she was originally using it as a feeding ground but felt like she should contribute in some way and now also patches up fighters.

This is where she meets Erden. I'm playing around with the Idea that she accidentally caused him to slip up and get injured, like she could pick up on whatever magical vibes he gives off and it caused him to get briefly distracted

Anyway she heals him and he now feels indebted to her. (he does have healing abilities but I'm thinking it was so bad that his internal organs needed to be put back together properly for it to heal on its own)

He thinks she's a bit a creepy at first but also feels he should keep an eye on her so they can be even.

Other stuff

He always "enters" her house from the back window and then tells her that she should really bar her windows.

She can't fucking drive so she just makes him take her everywhere

Erden also has a Yamaha V-Max and she hates being a motorcycle passenger with a passion, please get it away from her.

Mohana also has selective mutism and he really good at picking up on her body language, when she's feeling overstimulated, uncomfortable etc and can calm her down during panic attacks.

My favourite Feanorian is Caranthir – I know how random that is, but since my first reading of the Silm (about 100 years ago 🤣🤣🤣), I’ve always loved his bad-boy vibes. And I’ve always shipped him with the mortal woman Haleth. They give off great enemies-to-lovers vibes and have been a crackship for me since the dawning of the First Age 😹.

Other favourite Silm characters of mine are:

Tuor & Idril 💕 – They have great individual stories and their love story is also a beautiful one. (I even prefer it over the Beren/Lúthien story – controversial, I know! 😏)

Ulmo 🌊 – He's very cool and I love how he shows up for the children of Eru Ilúvatar more than the other Valar. I even feel like he still exists in some form in Middle-earth during LOTR, as there are often references to the call of the sea and water seeming to have a voice. 🧜‍♂️

Varda (naturally) 🌟 – I named my fandom alias after her because I think she has such a cool existence – just sitting up high, creating stars, and sprinkling them around the night sky. What's not to love? ✨

And Sauron 🖤 – Long before TROP existed, Sauron was a Silm favourite of mine. My husband even gave me a framed print of Sauron in werewolf form on the bridge to Tol-in-Gaurhoth for our anniversary once🤣 (so romantic!). TBH, I always thought he was evil and horrible (Sauron, not my husband 🤣), but I found him so interesting because of all his skills and powers. 🔥

I do have some thoughts on Caranthir, though, fair warning, they’re not especially complimentary. They’re pretty headcanon-heavy, since we only get tidbits on him.

Character Thoughts - Caranthir

From what we see of Caranthir, the thing that stands out to me most is his disdainful behaviour towards anyone who isn’t (entirely) Noldor. It comes out in practically every instance we see of him in The Silmarillion. I wouldn’t guess that this is unique to Caranthir among the Fëanoreans (we get similar cultural chauvinism from Fëanor in his “in huts on the beaches you would be dwelling still” line to Olwë, and all the sons of Fëanor are described as “haughty and fell”), but he seems to have a more than usual lack of tact about it; he’s described as “the harshest and most quick to anger” among the sons of Fëanor

First there’s his words to Angrod (“Let not the sons of Finarfin run hither and thither with their tales to this Dark Elf in his caves!…let them not so swiftly forget that their father is a lord of the Noldor, though their mother be of other kin”….wow, on top of everything else, way to remind them that you murdered their mother’s people). It’s telling that this is in no way a small incident - it’s the moment that prompts Maedhros moving the Fëanoreans to East Beleriand, and the memory and resentment of it is what prompts Angrod to spill the beans to Thingol about the Kinslaying. Caranthir can do a lot of damage with a few words!

His lack of tact towards the dwarves doesn’t have similar impact - because of pragmatism on both sides and also, I expect, because, though the dwarves are proud, they aren’t especially vain, and being insulted for their looks bothers them a lot less than many other things would.

His interactions with Haleth and the Haladin are interesting. At first his people “pay little heed to them,” which is a marked contrast not only to Finrod’s instant befriending of the Edain, but to Fingolfin’s rapid endeavours to build relations and an alliance. After he rescues the Haladin from the Orcs he “sees, over late, what valour there was in the Edain”, and invites them to live further north in his land. The Haladin are currently in the southern woods of Thargelion. Now, this can be taken either of two ways. Option one, he’s inviting them to live closer to the main settlement of his people, near Lake Helevorn, for more effective mutual defence. Option two, he’s inviting them to live closer to the front lines because he’s seen that they’re good warriors and he wants them between Angband and the bulk of his people. I tend to lean towards the latter; Haleth’s choices certainly indicate she mistrusts him.

And if we do go with the latter, it creates some very interesting headcanons for me in the latter part of the story, where we see less of Caranthir individually. If Caranthir is (“over late”) seeing the military value of the Edain and trying to recruit them, and he failed, then he could be expected to particularly resent that the Haladin end up settling next to Thingol (who doesn’t even like them!) and agreeing to protect his borders, and resent Finrod for negotiating it. This would give him a reason to largely have fellow-feeling with Celegorm and Curufin after the events of Leithian, and accept whatever account they gave of their dealings with Nargothrond and Doriath and their grievances.

Even more, this also adds extra, painful irony to the Nirnaeth, when Caranthir again attempts to make an alliance with Men and it goes terribly wrong. It does stand out that the men who ally with Caranthir turn traitor while those who ally with Maedhros stay loyal - Caranthir has a record of alienating people whether he’s trying to or not, he lacks tact, and it’s not hard to see him saying some things that suggest that the Easterlings are being recruited as cannon fodder. It is, at any rate, my headcanon that Caranthir’s personality has a not-inconsiderable role in why it is the Easterlings aligned with him who change sides. And I like the way it bookends the first real appearance of Caranthir as an individual character, when his words throw a rock into both intra-Noldor and Noldor-Sindar relations.

The combination of bitterness in general around Uldor’s betrayal, bitterness about Doriath due to the aforementioned, and combined bitterness about Doriathrin non-participation in the Nirnaeth, all in addition to the matter of the Silmaril, would give him plenty of reason to be favourable towards the Second Kinslaying.

Bai had a feeling that someone was watching him.

He pinpointed the wallflower named Haleth. He knew of her. Vaguely. 

He knew that she had powers similar to his. When he had first entered the crowded room and found a spot to hang out, he opened his mind and stretched out his senses, catching something in his psychic net. Cautious, but unafraid, Sun Bai gravitated towards the petite figure wearing the white cat mask. 

Despite the fact that they were the only two traceable psychics in the room — perhaps at the entire party — Haleth was fairly reserved with her emotions when Bai approached.

“Alone?”

Haleth regarded him out of the corner of her eye. {Not anymore.}

Bai’s inner ear tingled at the sensation of her projected thoughts brushing up against his own. He let his eyes linger on the inky geometric design fanning out across her breasts. He itched to lift her up to his eye level so he could get a closer look.

“I don’t get the feeling that you were waiting for me, yet you don’t seem surprised that I’m standing here.”

She took a sip from her glass. “To be honest, I wasn’t sure you would be here at all.”

Bai’s lip twitched. “So you were hoping then.” It wasn’t a question.

Haleth shot him a look. One that didn’t give anything away had she been maskless, but all the more impossible since she in fact was.

Bai met her gaze over the rim of his glasses. “Tell me how you know me.”

There was no need to hide anything now. They were at a fuck festival of all places. So Haleth decided to just get it over with and be frank. 

“You come through Vesuvia pretty frequently. You spend a lot of money while you’re here too. The merchants talk.”

“Gossip can only get you so much information.” He smirked. “You’ve seen me around too, I bet.”

[Admit it. You’ve been keeping an eye on me whenever I pass through.]

Haleth regarded him coolly. “Yes… that.” She flipped her dark waves off her shoulder. 

Someone drunkenly passed the two of them, making Haleth edge closer to Bai without thinking. The pirate didn’t move, but he was still thankful that she hadn’t bumped into him. During the shift, he brushed against her mind again. Assessing her slightly rattled energy, he asked, “Do I make you nervous?”

“No, it has nothing to do with you… I don’t like crowds.”

Bai inclined his head. “Why don’t you make everyone leave then?”

Haleth looked up at him suddenly. Bai held her gaze over his raspberry-tinted lenses.

She scoffed, “what, all of them? I don’t know what you heard about me, but—“

“I’ll lend you a hand.”

Bai offered the presence of his mind to Haleth. He wasn’t a hypnotic type like her, but his ability was still a well that she could draw from. 

The only indication that Haleth had accepted Bai’s offer was the stony look of concentration on her face and the unceremonious exodus of party guests from the room.

When the room was empty all but for the two psychics, Bai found a low table sturdy enough to support them. Minutes later he was watching Haleth struggle under him, her wrists pinned over her head, breasts threatening to breach the top of her costume. 

Typically by this point in the night, guests were covered in some manner of markings. Love bites, old lipstick stains, hand prints, rope imprints, etc. But not Haleth. Without counting her tattoos, the high melanin of her skin was smooth, practically untouched. Not only that, she was groaning like she hadn’t been fucked in months.

Bai’s hair came undone from the effort it took to satisfy her. So of course it was getting all in his eyes and mouth. His hold had gone slack enough for Haleth to reclaim her arms. She pushed up onto her elbows and swept Bai’s wandering tendrils out of the way.

“There you go.”

Before Bai could thank her, she was kissing him. It was so tender, despite the reckless way he was thrusting and fucking her soaking pussy. She whimpered passionately against his lips. Bai’s hair stubbornly caught onto any wet surface, including their tongues. He apologized for it.

“Don’t.” Haleth breathed. “I like it better this way.”

Bai sneered.

Haleth tried to convince him otherwise. She stroked a ghostly strand behind his ear and said something to the effect of how much his hair, his glasses, his piercings suited him so well. How she could watch him all day.

Bai paused to scoop his hands under Haleth’s thighs and haul them up by her ears.

“Stop touching me and grab your ankles.”

Haleth gasped in sudden pleasure at the new angle of her hips. She did as she was told. Bai dug his knees into the wood as he fitted his hands to the backs of her knees and added pressure. His thrusts now were of course deeper and deliciously rougher than they were before.

Haleth cried out in a higher octave, causing Bai’s face to flush a handsome, bolder shade of red-gold. 

Then she panted something about his cock feeling so fucking good she could cry. It made him really question how absurd she was willing to be just to stroke his ego.

Haleth struggled to get her words out in one breath. “Y-you don’t believe me.”

Bai couldn’t believe they were having this conversation. Through a tight jaw, he grunted, “People lie when they’re getting fucked all the time.”

After a particularly well-coordinated thrust, Haleth’s eyes shuttered as her back arched. Blissfully, she hummed.

Then she opened her eyes.

“I’m not a liar, Sun Bai.”

This… Haleth was really throwing him off. “What do you mean?”

She whispered, “I can show you better than I can tell you.”

They held gazes for a long moment. Bai’s thrusts became slower, but didn’t lose any intensity from before.

Then without any warning, Haleth flooded Bai’s mind with proof – dozens of hazy images of her alone in her room, reaching her apex again and again with his name on her lips.

Bai dragged his hand through his hair, swearing under his breath at all of the blood rushing to his cock.

“Fuck.”

The images flickered and went black. Haleth’s eyes rolled back as her pussy choked on each fat roll of cum that suddenly splintered into her.
