I need some advice

I’ve been in love with my best friend for years now. Unrequited I’m pretty sure. She’s in love with someone else- im hopelessly in love with her. You know how it goes.

I was recently diagnosed with cancer. It isn’t completely bad news, it might still be treatable (waiting for more results) but it’s got me thinking about a lot.

Selfishly I want to confess to her. I don’t want to potentially leave this world with any regrets. I want her to know how much I’ve cared for her and how I wish we might have had more time. But on the other hand- she’s in love with someone else. And she’s happy. I don’t want to ruin that and make her life messy and complicated with feelings that aren’t her responsibility.

What would you do?

and about your girl... i don't think i can be of much help. i myself, as i am now, i wouldn't be brave enough to tell a friend that i'm in love with them when i know they're in love and happy with someone else. because what if things got too weird and i lost them? that would be my usual thought process.

but having a diagnosis that serious, something that can start a timer on your time on earth, well. that changes things, your perspective changes. that puts a fire under you.

she's your best friend. if you want to confess your feelings for her, do it. tell her what you told me, that you don't want to ruin that she has and that you don't want to have any regrets. if she doesn't feel the same, well... then she doesn't. but i think right now, you have all the right to be selfish and think about yourself. because what if she does feel the same?
