A = Aroma (What do they smell like?)

Zelda smells of rosewood and patchouli.

B = Babe (What would they use as pet names? Do they use them a lot?)

Darling and dearest are often used when she wants something from you. She uses pet names on a regular basis, but usually when the two of you are alone.

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

Sometimes, when she’s in the mood for them, then hell yes she’s a cuddler, but when she’s not feeling it, best keep your distance.

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? What would they think about living together?)

She wouldn’t mind settling down, though she does fear that will make her seem old.

She’s affectionate in subtle ways. A whispered praise, a quick peck on the cheek. She doesn’t like to make a whole public display of it.

Zelda’s kisses are generally very passionate when it’s just the two of you. When around others, she tends to let it be more casual and chaste.

She’s good with children, though doesn’t often consider having her own, considering how Sabrina is such a handful. But she could be reminded of their better points and be convinced to give it a go with you to help out.

She met you in the woods. She was preparing for a celebration with the church of night and you were out picking herbs and flowers. You caught her eye, smiled and she struck up a conversation.

She can be, though she often assigns that sort of thing to Hilda, who is better at it. She’d want you to have the best care possible, rather than her care.

Candles, an incredible meal and slow dancing to an old record. Classic romance, but perhaps with a bit of a darker twist.

You propose the night before her birthday. She’s so busy worrying about what her family will have planned for her that she doesn’t see it coming. Though she does graciously and tearfully accept.

The way she pays so much time and attention on her appearance when she has such natural beauty already. Watching her put on her makeup or choose an outfit is an art form that you never get tired of seeing.

Your bedtime routine often involves you helping her unwind, which she is eternally grateful for.

She can be protective, casting spells to help ensure your safety or having Hilda keep an eye on you when she can’t.

It was fascinating how Orsimer's physiology semi-resembled that of the Altmer!

However, the dissection and study of animals overwhelmed Maggie with their variety. She diligently studied the function these structures served in life from dusty books with remarkably detailed illustrations, some lovingly folded into the pages by Grandmother herself. As the months stretched beyond her first year in her Grandmother's tower, Magna learned more about the construction of a body than she’d ever imagined there was to know. Time not spent studying the basic lessons of necromancy saw Maggie performing chores around the tower so that she was not ignorant of...womanly domestic duties.

Aside from the standard servant chores of sweeping, polishing, and dusting (Maggie suspected Grandmother made her do these simply because she wanted to keep her humble—the tower didn’t look like it had ever been cleaned before Maggie's arrival), Maggie was also tasked with sorting and cleaning corpses, retrieving components from the surrounding forest, and researching esoteric information in the small library.

Chiastic Structure of S2

The post preceding this is Chiastic Structure of S1.

S1 was neat, tidy and simple compared to S2.

S2 was...difficult. I have a feeling this is because of the missing minisodes. There felt like there were "holes" in places, where there was a strong scene with no corresponding pair, and yet in others there were single lines matching up.

You will also notice its quite...skewed? The hinging midpoint is right at the end of Ep4, which means the last two episodes mirror the preceding the four! So there are gaps. For example, the conversation in the pub in Ep2 doesn't match with anything specific.

One of the things I hoped it might shed some light on was the purpose of the trip to Edinburgh, which seems like a bit of a dead end. It does, in a way - I will discuss it a bit further below, along with some other parallels that didn't fit the structure.

Discussion on parallels that didn't fit the structure:

1. Crowley is given permission to destroy all of Job's possessions /  Gabriel refuses to give permission to destroy the Earth aka Armageddon II

There is a repeat emphasis on licenses, permits and authority throughout S2, so I really thought Crowley's permit to destroy of Job's possessions would have a match. It did, but it didn't fit the structure! If you look closely some of the other permits and authority lines do slot in. I'm planning some metas on these topics in the near future, as the use of language around these concepts is quite interesting, and there is some history to throw into the mix as well.

2. Crowley deceives the archangels with the help of an angel

This pair is a reference to Crowley and Aziraphale teaming up in the Job minisode to restore Job's children, and then Muriel aiding Crowley to sneak into Heaven. I'd just like to point out that Crowley could have gone to Heaven on his own - remember Eric went up with the hellfire in S1E6 - but he doesn't know where to go and get Gabriel's file, that is what he needs Muriel for.

3.  Popping up to Edinburgh

Ah, the trip to Edinburgh! Why? WHY!!! Why go all that way for ... nothing?

Guess what - it's a parallel sequence to Crowley popping up to Heaven.

I was going to write a companion piece to this but...my to do list is getting a bit long at the moment. Let me know if you want me to expand on it.

4. Ignoring messages

So this one started as "Nina gets txt messages from Lindsay, Mrs Sandwich says not to look at them," at the start of Ep3, then during the Ball Crowley is trying to lead the humans out of the bookshop and Shax confronts him with another bundle of mail. Crowley is succeeding in ignoring his messages from Hell, but Nina isn't.

5. Muriel and The Interrupted Tea Ceremony

In S2 it noticeable that everyone except Crowley needs permission to enter the bookshop, whereas in S1 they could just walk in. Originally I made a comment elsewhere that I thought this part matched with a sub-story to the Ball, the story of Sodom and Gomorrah and hospitality to angels, but then I came back and had another look and saw that there was a surface match - but I'm still going to do another post about the "cupperty" because it keeps getting lost in all the noise!

6. Threats and Declarations of War

Shax makes a number of threats throughout the series, to hunt Crowley down and to declare war on Aziraphale. So when Aziraphale inadvertently declares war on Hell with the halo toss, you'd think there would be a matching pair. There is, but not with a declaration of war, just a threat to Crowley. This is probably one of the weaker pairs.

7. Mysteriosity, audacity, ferocity and dangerocity

The Marvelous Mr Fell and his Mysteriosity has a pair with Shax's speech to her fellow demons about the unprecedented audacity of the attack on the bookshop, and how their lack of numbers will be made up for with their ferocity and...dangerocity. It should have fit, but it didn't.

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

She claims she doesn’t really care about affection. She is lying. She needs it so fucking bad. The smallest thing is enough to make her day.

B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

Unless you two go to school together you met when she was waiting for her ride home after an unexpected delay and decided to spend the time chatting with you.. From then she decided to request she gets picked up later on other days as well.

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

She’s so embarrassed but she’s little spoon. Always. But don’t tell anyone. She becomes a lot better at owning it when drunk though, straight up demanding you hold her even in front of others.

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

Growing up with servants she doesn’t have any domestic skills. But I do feel like she’d be pretty quick about picking things up if you decided to teach her.

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

She’d be very direct and firm. Doesn’t sugarcoat things or mince her words.

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

She would be completely down. However she’d want to marry into your family. It’s not even so much that she wants to leave the Tohno family but that she really doesn’t want to bring you into it.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

Due to her tsundere nature she can often be pretty harsh. She often feels really bad afterwards.

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

She loves them. She hates how much she loves them. If you hug her she will blush so hard, even harder if it’s in front of other people.

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

She’d really set it up. Doing it at the end of a really long and nice date or dragging you away to give you a whole speech about how you make her feel before dropping it.

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

Oh god does she get jealous. As soon as she sees someone just talking to you even a little bit too much the whole tsundere act is getting dropped in favor of the overly clingy girlfriend.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

Anytime you two kiss it destroys her. Doesn’t matter who initiated or if it’s on the cheek or mouth she will immediately after turn away and cover her face from embarrassment.

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)

She’d be very reluctant about having children due to her heritage.However she’d probably be really  good at it. She’d know how to set realistic expectations and not overwhelm kids like she was overwhelmed.

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

This depends. If you two are sleeping separately she is getting up before you and then complaining about you sleeping too long. If you are together in bed however she will not want to get up. She’ll cling to you and whine about 5 more minutes or even taking the day off.

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

You already know. Tea. Or alcoholism of course.

O = Open  (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say  everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

She really REALLY wouldn’t want to involve you in the history of the Tohno family. Tries her best to keep it all a secret from you but will reluctantly reveal the truth when she comes to a point of no return.

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

She’s snapping at you at the smallest thing. She  is not hard to anger.

Q = Quizzes  (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little  detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

I think she’d honestly be so worried about forgetting things she’d keep notes on your dates and conversations in a little diary.

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

One time she got too drunk on one of your dates and you ended up taking her to your place to sleep over. You tried to sleep on the floor but she insisted on sharing the bed. When she woke up she felt horrible and it was almost noon. She felt dirty and messy. You gave her one of your shirts which was fitting her more like a dress. Then just as she was about to apologise about making you go through all this trouble you just had to go and compliment her. It hit her so fucking hard. Being with someone who didn’t have any extraordinary expectations and could love her at her lowest was such a foreign experience for her she almost cried.

She will kinda hide behind you when you are at unfamiliar places. But should you get hurt she will take very good care of  you and really scold you for getting in trouble.

Leaning in, Mingi pressed a soft and lingering kiss on Y/N's lips. It felt like a confirmation of all the unspoken emotions they had both been carrying. Y/N's heart fluttered, and she returned the kiss, feeling the weight of uncertainty lift from her shoulders.

"I love you too, Y/N," Mingi whispered against her lips, his voice full of sincerity. "I've loved you for so long, but I didn't want to push you or risk our friendship. But hearing you say it... it's like a dream come true."

With their feelings finally out in the open, Y/N and Mingi took the leap together, crossing the threshold from friends to something more. They spent the evening talking and laughing, sharing stories about their journey as friends and realizing how their feelings for each other had been subtly growing all along.

As the night drew to a close, Y/N found herself wrapped in Mingi's arms, feeling a newfound sense of completeness. It was as if everything had fallen into place, sure they may have taken forever to realize it when everyone around them could see it, but it didn't matter now. They were finally on the same page, and it felt right.

And when they finally told the others about them finally getting together Y/N could see how happy they were to finally hear that admitted their feelings, especially after the two of them had been completely obvious. And of course, they wouldn’t be their friends without teasing them but to Y/N, their teasing had brought a smile to her face because she knew even though they were teasing them deep down inside they’re happy for them. And that mattered most to her.

That '90s Show Part 2 Review

Overall, I'm giving Part 2 4.5 Stars out of 5!!!! I completely loved it, and thought it was an improvement from last season. I am now all the more excited for part 3, given what I know is still coming. 😜

The Good

The H U M O R continues to be the brightest spot for me. This is a genuinely funny show - I laughed out loud (okay, closer to howled if we're being honest) several times. It feels similar (though not identical) to T70S' brand of humor. I can tell it was made by the same people. This season, like last, Ozzie was my main man and had the one-liners that sent me the most but I can say the same for Jay, Gwen, Nate, and Leia too. And Bob. Oh hell, all of them! I'm sure I'll be reblogging my favorite moments for months to come while we wait for part 3!

The C H A R A C T E R D E V E L O P M E N T is the other shining star for me. The first season was limited (disappointing?) in this regard - to be fair, they only had 10 episodes to introduce us to a whole new handful of characters and make us care about them, and they mostly did. But this season brought the depth I was looking for - and we're only halfway through! 🤯 We learn more about Jay's playboy past, and see how he's actively working to grow and change and do his relationship with Leia differently. Ozzie is humanized when he has his heart broken - and his friends are there to pick up the pieces 💔. Nate struggles with his feelings and relationship with Nikki all season, and by the end of episode 8 he seems to be grappling with still having real feelings for her that he can't move on from. Nikki's pregnancy scare really affected her, and not in the way one would necessarily expect. She ended part 2 feeling lost and unsure of her direction, or what she truly wants (and not her parents), for the first time in her life. Gwen's storylines were perhaps my favorite of all (I'm a big Gwen stan, okay?). I was impressed that they decided to 'go there' with the racism plot, and even more impressed at the frank conversation she had at the end of the episode with her white (and well-intentioned, but bumbling) mom. Was it perfect and resolved? No. I think that was kind of the point. Not to mention her navigating her first real feelings and her relationship (?) with Cole. And Leia, my lovely Leia - she is learning about communication, forgiveness, honesty - all with the gentle guidance of her family and her friends. And that's not to mention Red and Kitty, who had sweet, plot-driving storylines of their own. I loved their realization that they like their rut - but loved even more when Red was inspired to live every day like it's his last and pushed through his fears to go to Paris with Kitty 🥰. This longer season has afforded more 'filler-like' episodes for us to just hang out with the characters, and get to know them more intimately. What are their wants, fears, insecurities, innermost thoughts? We are getting there. We are really getting there. Let's see what 8 more episodes will bring!

BOB! Bob gets his own point, because I enjoyed him so much (and seeing him and Red eventually come together to be overprotective grandpas 🤣. I laughed so much at his relationship with Leia, how they were just chilling in the basement, how he wanted all the teen gos. And Gwen's "What the heck, do you tell your grandpas everything?" 😂

DONNA! I adore Donna Pinciotti (Forman?), always have, and I adore her even more in the '90s than I thought possible. I love seeing her as a mom and her relationship with Leia. More pls.

This season felt more '90s to me! They incorporated more '90s references and brought back the regular fantasy sequences that always set the original apart. Off the top of my head, I loved: Kitty's Carmen Electra fantasy/nightmare (😂), Leia's Lisa Loeb fantasy (🤣), the Macarena (that shit was e v e r y w h e r e in the mid-90s, man), the Mentos commercial, Jay and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith cameo!!! also, Leo's son???) and all of Kitty's '90s slang that she picked up from the kids at school 😂👏🏻

The guest stars! Mitch and The Angel returned from T70S, and I am a big Will Forte/that era of SNL stan so I thoroughly enjoyed his appearance, too (and know he's been involved on the OG series on the writing/production side).

Red's trains (callback to season 1 of T70S - whoa!!) 🥰

I thought they struck a good balance this season between those heartfelt, 'very special episode'-type moments that '90s sitcoms were infamous for, without actually being too sickly-sweet, ala a Full House or Girl Meets World type moment. Donna and Leia's interaction in Nikki's bedroom regarding the voicemail comes to mind, as well as the is-Nikki-pregnant storyline and Nikki and Nate's celebratory dance at the end 🤣.

Which reminds me - I thought Nikki and Nate's storyline was intriguing. I have always been sort of a fan of their relationship - I don't think it's as bad as some others seem to - but remain unconvinced that they're 'meant to be' or endgame or whatever. But I enjoyed watching them navigate their break-up this season and then reluctantly find their ways back to each other, though. We'll see where it goes in part 3!

I immediately noted (and was pleased!) that there was a Laurie mention and a Midge mention this season. Both very off-hand, but it was something I was curious about. Who will be next? Betsy Kelso? 😮

The Bad

For me, ngl, Topher Grace's (Eric) absence was really felt. It is definitely the kids' show now and a substantial storyline isn't one I'd ever expect, but gosh I missed him from the family scenes at the beginning (both those with Red & Kitty, and those with Donna & Leia). The silver lining is how the other characters continue to reference him - almost in every episode, really - and so we still learn things about him and his relationships to his wife, daughter, and parents through these mentions from other characters. There will always be a part of me that is crossing my fingers for another Eric appearance, though, and I think there always will be.

Kitty's characterization as an overbearing mother was overdone. To be fair, this isn't a deviation from the original show. This is how she was often written towards the end of T70S - overbearing, possessive of Eric, lashing out at Donna or feeling in competition with her. It was done for laughs, but it wasn't particularly funny to me (and never was) 🤷‍♀️.

Not enough Geia content for my 'shipper heart 😩. We got one boob touch 😂, and it is clear that Leia still prioritizes her friendship with Gwen above all else (I lol'ed when she worried Gwen was in jail and that she would have to commit a crime to join her) but I want more, damn it! Part 2 solidified for me that Geia is never going to be anything more than a crack!ship. 😰

Which reminds me - Jay and Leia are kind of 'meh' for me. They're fine, I don't dislike them together, and I do like how we're seeing them both learn and grow through their relationship but... it just inspires kind of lukewarm feelings, I guess.

There wasn't a lot of Sherri in part 2. I love Sherri. Hope to see more of her in the next part.

The Ugly

I am pleased to say that I can't think of anything!!! Fez was absent (although they didn't directly reference their break-up, Sherri is clearly single and on the prowl all season) but I didn't miss him (🤭). Ditto to Kelso and Jackie - although we did get one reference to Jay's dad and the Kelso family heirloom (aka porn). I would say the ugliest part is that I now have to wait until October for part 3!!!
