but really, after knowing him for so long, there are tiny slips in his facade, minuscule cracks in the mask that clue you into how he’s truly feeling.

they’re not easy to spot. his character is carefully crafted to be as flawless as possible; he’s a phenomenal actor and he doesn’t like to expose his true nature.

but you know him—you know him in ways no one else has seen before. you’ve seen him come unraveled, breathless and slick with sweat. you’ve seen him on his knees for you, eyes glimmering with want as he worships you. you’ve seen the way his nose scrunches slightly when he laughs, the way his eyebrows pinch together when he’s deep in thought, the way his left hand is always tucked behind his back during a gamble.

“you so were jealous,” you jab at your boyfriend, coy smile dancing on your lips as he scoffs and turns away.

“was not. i can only listen to that angel prattle on for so long, you know.”

“no need to deny it, vennie.”

the gambler turns your way. he gives you a brief once over before approaching you. he pushes into your space, forcing you to step back until your back hits the wall. he crowds you there, arm coming up to rest on the wall above your head. you’ve effectively been trapped.

"i'm not denying anythin' baby," aventurine huffs, bringing his face to yours. his warm breath ghosts against your lips. you find yourself wanting to tilt your head towards him, to brush your lips against his.

you resist yourself. you know exactly what he's gunning for here.

(you know you won't last very long. he'll always get what he wants in the end. you don't mind one bit.)

"i could literally see you glowering at him. you're not too subtle, you know?" at least not to you. not when you've come to know him in such intimate ways.

"i was bored—and hey, let's talk about the way he was lookin' at you. i didn't appreciate it one bit. that's what has me so worked up, since you're so convinced i'm jealous."

"he was just having a conversation with me??"

aventurine gives you an incredulous look, bringing his free hand up to squish your cheeks. you let out an indignant squeak.

"that's not how i saw it, sweetheart. c'mon, indulge me here. if i were him, i'd be lookin' at a pretty thing like you the way he was too. but doing that right in front of me? ugh," he sighs dramatically. "how're you gonna make it up to me? you were givin' all of your attention to him and i just don't think that's fair."

"when do you ever play fair?"

"i am right now, aren't i?"

you shoot him a look that screams absolutely not. but you sigh anyways, bringing your arms up to loop around his neck. the hand that holds your face loosens, then slowly trails down your body, coming to rest on your hip.

with a coy smile, you let your lips brush against his, feather-light and fleeting.

"fine, fine. i'll make it up to you. my eyes are only on you tonight, 'kay?"

aventurine smiles, dark and full of sinful promise.

"good. i think i'll take my time with you."

the fingers that rake through your hair coax you awake—gently, and that in itself is a little jarring.

not because it’s Touya—no, you know he’s a big softie—but because for a second, when you wake, you’re somewhere else. there, love is not gentle and hands that don’t hurt are unfamiliar, until you blink hard enough that the ghosts start to dissolve into a familiar shape.

after the few seconds of bleary eyes, you find only Touya. for some reason, it makes you cry.

he doesn’t startle—he just keeps the steady drag of his fingers across your scalp and watches. he’s patient, and you’re embarrassed, but you know that he understands so you don’t bother explaining. the silence stretches and bends between you but it isn’t painful.

“you with me?” he murmurs after your tears dry, staining tracks down your cheeks.

“mm.”

you close your eyes, content under his touch—happy to let him treat you gently and know that it is safe. only to squawk when he flops down on top of you.

“touya,” you wheeze, limbs flailing out like a starfish underneath him.

“shh,” he whispers into the crook of your neck, “m’helping.”

“you’re gonna crush me—”

“oi—that ain’t nice.” he huffs, petulant, but grins as he rolls off of you, making a big show of plopping onto the floor with a dull thud. you peer over the side of the couch and find him sprawled out and staring at you—you rest your head on your forearms and stare right back. you can concede that he did help—just not to him.

“you’re my favorite.” it comes abruptly and with intent—meaning to take up the spaces that the ghosts leave behind.

he screws his face up like he’s eaten something sour, but the red tips of his ears give him away. “gross.”

you roll your eyes, unable to fight the warmth that sloshes around in your gut. when you’re back there, in the dark, touya will be too.

I’m not super good with this kind of stuff so I’ll go over the basics.

My name is Sophie. I’m 26. I live in the Pacific NW in the US (hence why my schedule sticks to PST usually). And I work an office job, which is why I get a lot of free time during work days lol.

HUGE Dunmeshi (and especially Chilchuck) fan, but I also really like MHA (Keigo/Hawks my beloved 💖) even if the ending made me really sad. (Hori should’ve taken a hiatus IMO. I fully believe he would’ve been up to following through with the plot lines he set up if he wasn’t pressured to keep his pace.)

I was also violently reminded of my massive Peter/Quicksilver (x-men movies) crush when he showed up for .2 seconds at the end of DP3, so I’ve been wanting to watch those again with my mom some time.

I’ve been on Tumblr since I was in high school. I came over from DA where I used to post my fics before my mom found out and got me into AO3 (fandom runs in the family lol. She’s also a professional author/editor and was like “no kid of MINE is gonna post to fucking da” lol.)

Not sure what else to say so I’ll give you a fun fact: I hate coffee AND tea! If I need caffein I’ll drink a Ghost energy drink (preferably the red Sour Patch Kids one) and if I want a hot drink I’ll go for hot cocoa. Also for soda I’m on team Dr. Pepper and will die on this hill lol.
