peyton didn't mind the long days at the library. they were quite nice to look around the aisles that he wouldn't frequent as much. plus, he wanted to enjoy the calm before the storm as finals were rolling around for most students including his own. just as he placed a book back where it belonged, he caught a glimpse of kalina. he hadn't much to do for now so he approached where she was with a small smile on his face. "so, what are you researching this time?" he felt comfortable enough to ask as he'd talk to her here and there and listen to her podcast which he found intriguing at times.

Cass watched Kalina process, their eyes meeting for just a moment before a smile broke through. She'd never known her not to be blunt. Well-- once she got comfortable, anyways. It'd taken them a bit to get there, but Cass was always fucking tickled when she was reminded of it. "Ok fair, it is kinda like a hammer to the head, but given your affinity for blunt force trauma, I thought you might dig it," Cass shrugged c'est la vie style, already starting toward the next piece. She spun on her heel, walking backward to keep eyes on her, cause lets face it, despite their epic romance falling flat, she was still so very easy on the eyes. "How about you pick the next one, hm? Somethin' you like and why?"

"I'm really glad I wasn't the only one not digging the vibe in there."

It'd been a calculated risk, asking Kalina if she wanted to get out of the stuffy Neptune atmosphere before their appetizers had even arrived, but Atticus liked to pride himself on being able to read people pretty well, and he'd been able to tell almost immediately that it didn't really seem to be her scene, either.

Whether that had to do with her present company or not was part of the risk in asking, along with her potentially thinking he was making some sort of move, but either way she'd agreed, which he took to mean that he hadn't made too bad of a first impression.

The night was still young, though.

"Also really glad that the waiter took my bribe and put the wine in to go cups for us. He was a real one for that." Taking a sip of the wine in question (through a straw, classy), Atticus racked his brain to try and figure out what they'd been talking about at the table before his intrusive thoughts had won out. "I don't think I caught what you said you do for work?"

It had been awhile since Travis had seen Kalina, so when he had spotted her in the near distance, he couldn't help but shout her name and start making tracks towards her.

"Hey Kali!" He greeted, eventually catching up to her. "Long time no see, stranger."

"Come on, bestie!" Madison squealed, as she continued to pull Kalina towards the direction of the photo booth. It hadn't been long since she'd claimed the other as her new best friend, but she sure didn't mind acting as if they've known each other all their lives. "We definitely have to get some photo strips to commemorate the occasion. Our first carnival!" She beamed a smile, as they neared the booth. "Then we can do whatever you want. Want to get some food? Want to stare at cute guys? Your call."

Tw: murder When Kalina met the person who was going to end up her step sibling , she wasn’t particularly excited at first. She hadn’t been in the best place and never really got over her own mothers murder, so the very idea who father was actually starting to move on (despite it being years since) had started to affect her. However it wasn’t until she got to know them that she realized this person was more an ally than an enemy. When people considered Kalina weird, the step sibling would always interject and step in. Since then this person has sort of become the friend she had always looked for growing up and have a strong bond..

Axel had texted Kalina to see if she wanted to grab a drink and a bite to eat. He hadn't seen her in a minute and he wanted to make sure she was doing okay. Looking up as he saw her enter he smiled and stood up from his seat. "Hey little one." He said as he reached down to give her a hug. "How are things? I was thinking of you the other day. I am pretty sure I saw one of my employees listening to your podcast."

here's the moment we've been waiting for- our valentine's day blind date pairings! we had 58 characters submitted, so there's 29 pairings!

please remember that these obviously do not have to end in a whirlwind romance! the dates can end up just being two friends having a free meal, can end in a disaster, can have someone else bailing, or maybe can spark something real! the point of it all is to have fun.

the dinner will be held at Neptune on Friday February 16th in game, but threads can begin as of tomorrow! the dates can also bc hc'd as well, all we ask is that everyone paired please speak with your partners and decide on the outcomes together! we don't want anyone feeling left out or dejected.

( taylor russell.  cis woman .  she/her)  - the  chicago  resident , (  kalina slater-horne ) ,  was  heard  blaring  (  hammer horror/kate bush )  this  morning  .  the  ( twenty five)  year  old  is  a  ( true crime podcaster )  in  the  city  &  has  lived  the ( west ) tower  for  (  six months ) .  since  being  here  ,  they  have  been  told  to  be  ( shy )  ,  but  also  ( enthusiastic ) ,  i  guess  we'll  find  out  soon  !

Born in San Francisco as the only child of Lenora and Michael Slater, Kalina’s life started out like everyone else’s but would grow to be a little scary at times. From a very young age, Kalina loved to be scared. Her mother had been an artist and photographer who had instilled a love of the strange and unusual with her daughter which the young future horror fan gravitated to. She remembers getting her first book of poems by Edgar Allen Poe, the first time she peaked behind the blankets watching a slasher, or the first time she saw her first ever crush Elvira mix humor and horror to great effect. All of these were things that had inspired her greatly.

While she had been shy in school Kalina was able to turn into a far more introverted and outspoken person when it came to horror. It was that one niche that she knew everything about and could out do anyone knowledge wise about the genre. She knew she wanted to follow her mothers footsteps and do something creative that was also a little bit scary too. In many ways horror became a security blanket when others were cruel. It was hard at times to want to hang out with others who saw you as the weird girl; especially when they began pick on her because she didn’t seem to fit in with other kids in her grade. The more people we’re cruel to her the more she tried to ignore them. Her hobbies were a security blanket that only grew to protect her further once her mother died.

With her mother gone, Kalina started to lean into a more realistic horror; true crime . Her father was trying to protect Kalina and had tried to keep the reason her mother had died from her, but Kalina was a very inquisitive young woman and discovered her mother had been murdered and no one knew who had done it. San Francisco was a large city and one that seemed to have more and more people pass through daily. It was the fact that things had been a mystery that sent Kalina down a rabbit hole that followed her into adulthood.

She began to fixate on unsolved mysteries and murders and just wanted to find answers that she never got from her own mothers death. But as the longer time went on the more she began to alienate herself from other people. She started to not even notice the way people would bully her in school or the fact that her own father was dating someone again. She just wanted to focus on her hobbies because it kept her safe from dealing with the reality that she wasn’t coping with her mothers loss well. The more she’d research the less she’d sleep or eat or really do anything other than try to solve what happened to her mom. Eventually, her father had to step in and seek out help in order for Kalina to get better. On some level her fathers involvement helped more than anything because it revealed how much he had also been hurting from the death of her mother. They were able to be more open and bond again and soon Kalina was able to accept that there had been changes to her life and was able to finally leave home and move to Chicago to save up for school.

While things were looking up for Kalina, one thing remained. Her love of the macabre. Horror and true crime were deep within her bones and as she reached college age and began to figure out what she wanted to do in life, a life in horror was the only option. The scary and spooky never strayed too far from her heart. It was something that still tied her to her mother and as she matured and reached her twenties Kalina knew exactly what she wanted in life. She wanted to help bring a light to the unsolved crimes of the world. She wanted to see if anyone else could help her solve her mother’s murder. She knows it’s not much yet, but it’s the first step in her other life goal of saving up enough money to be able to go back to school and study criminology. While still incredibly shy in her day to day life, Kalinas star shines bright when others watch her as the scream queen and talk about unsolved mysteries. A confidence and self assured woman is slowly starting to emerge from the ashes of her personal tragedy.

"Kalina," Cass' face lit up the moment they spotted her. Not that she was ever hard to miss. The girl had a presence about her. Something like a ghoul in a graveyard but cuter. And you know. Not as terrifying. Spooky. Like Casper? Ok. The more they thought about it the more they felt like they were digging a hole. A grave if you will. Which all in all, they figured Kalina of all people would appreciate.

It wasn't until they moved to step forward that they smile faltered a bit, realizing that they weren't exactly-- well. They looked like they'd just crawled out from under a rock. And metaphorically? They had. She hadn't talked to anyone in what felt like...weeks? Yeah...even Aubrey had to pry her way through their door. And their oversized sweatshirt and messy blonde locks were sure to show it, "Hey-- long time no talk. Drop in for a late breakfast or--"

"Hey best friend!" Madison spoke, as she bounced up next to her date, giddy from all the alcohol she'd consumed thus far. She threaded her arm through Kalina's and smiled as she surveyed the room. "You know, despite Lucas disappearing into the void and leaving me on the edge of heartbroken... I'm actually having a pretty good time. How are you doing, my beautiful little goddess?" She remarked. "You look so hot tonight, I can't believe everyone's not over here begging for your attention."
