So let me get this straight:

Hollow knight is about the journey of a small creature possessing the corpse of a god's discarded child, and the character arc that unfolds as they realize they're more than the path they were set to take, eventually defeating the corruption instead of merely postponing inevitable destruction.

Rain world is about the journeys and experiences of many small creatures sent by a bunch of gossiping computers, and the efforts to help stop the destruction caused by a corrupted god that unfolds over hundreds of years, all to postpone his inevitable death.

some time ago, i'd sent these old pics to a friend, who then told me to watch Severance... so i did.

i remember feeling anxious about doing so, bc it seemed like i'd get too attached to this show – the stills from it looked like my maladaptive daydreams projected onto the screen. but it turned out being not what i expected it to be (still great tho). yeah. & i did get engrossed in that world for a while lol.

I haven't even started Leah's romance route yet but I've already got their entire relationship and dynamic mapped out in my head.

Rambling into the void, but my female farmer OC, Mili, is basically a female himbo. I'd like to think that she doesn't really get all the passive aggressive jabs Leah makes to the farmer in the beginning of the game, and it makes Leah feel kinda bad abt it later on. As they grow more familiar with each other, I'd believe Mili's tenacious attitude eventually wears down Leah's defensive walls and she starts to grow fond of Mili and her lil' antics (much to Leah's own horror).

And since Mili is kinda airheaded but kind, she's easy to take advantage of, even if others don't exactly have any ill intentions. This would start to annoy Leah as she sees Mili running around helping everyone and their dog around town, and she starts to get kinda overprotective of Mili, and chastises her for never being able to say no to anyone (both farmer siblings are like this tbh). I kinda headcanon that Leah hates Scott bc 1. She's lowkey jealous that Mili and Scott hang out a lot in the mines (but she can't bring herself to go to there herself, its gross and dirty and also there's no reception) but mainly bc 2. She thinks Scott is absolutely full of shit with his museum that exists purely due to all the donations Mili makes to it, but he essentially takes all the credit for. Mili disagrees, but regardless, Leah and Scott don't get along.

After they start dating, Leah becomes an overprotective but proud gf who loves showing Mili off to her followers. The only thing is that she despairs over Mili's lack of fashion sense, esp since Mili's older sibling, Lu-Ran, is perfectly well-dressed themselves. So it becomes her hobby to dress Mili up in cute but practical clothes.

On Mili's end, she's just a simple girl with simple thoughts. Leah is a drop-dead gorgeous gf with a heart of gold (according to Mili, disagreed with by many others). She doesn't really get all the influencer stuff but she's supportive and likes to chat with Leah's followers on livestreams. She doesn't know that Leah's followers have basically formed a Mili Fan Club/Protection Squad.

I also like to think that Leah is a lifestyle influencer and environmental advocate. She donates the money made during livestreams and sponsorships towards environmental research and causes. My headcanon is that she's one of Ling's main sponsor (anonymous of course) for her coral research.

Overall, I'm a big fan of "opposites attract" tropes, so I am obsessed with my OC Mili and seeing how the relationship dynamic with Leah would work out. Mili would help Leah become more emotionally vulnerable and be less rigid, while Leah would be a solid rock in Mili's chaotic life who helps keep her grounded and remind her to take care of herself and not just others. Leah is a bit antisocial though, despite being an influencer, so being together with the social butterfly that Mili is would be quite interesting. With Mili as the bridge, Leah would eventually open up to other villagers too and become friends with Mili's friends too (other than Scott of course). From the get-go, Leah would get along very well with Mili's older sibling (my other farmer OC), Lu-Ran, as they're very down-to-earth, quiet and acceptably-dressed (to Leah's standards).

Anyways, if you actually read my word vomit, thank you for entertaining my 2am brain ramblings.

Hello. What are your favorite books/series with romance? I'm asking because from all interactive fiction I've played, I think the way you shows relationships (not just romance, btw) is both realistic, and interesting. I tend to be pretty disappointed in this point, in general. So, if you don't mind, I would love to hear your recommendations

Do you mean Interactive Fiction books? Or traditional fiction/series and movies? If it's the latter, I'm afraid I can't help you much — outside of RPGs and IFs, I don't like romance. 😄

But if you mean IFs, I can tell you a few of my favorite romance options, but some of these books aren't necessarily centered around romance or relationships. So, you may find them a bit lacking, but I personally really enjoyed the journey.

The Wayhaven Chronicles — Mason is pretty fun 😋. You probably know Wayhaven already, but if you don't, this series is romance-centric and very in-depth with relationships, so this is probably the closest to what you're looking for.

Tin Star — Preston is one of my fav ROs of all time. This book is NOT romance-focused, but I think it's excellent, and again, Preston's route hit me like a train. I love that bastard man.

Zombie Exodus: Safe Heaven — I really like Rilley (╥_╥).

Way Walkers: University — Semryun is amazing.

Mecha Ace — Hawkins is such a great enemy-to-lovers route.

Choice of the Deathless — I can't, for the life of me, remember their name, but it starts with a W. Wackfield? Something like that. It's a rival-to-lover affair, and it's great.

There are more stories with fantastic ROs (and platonic relationships), but these are the ones that have stuck with me throughout the years. I hope I could help a little bit!

yanqing didn't expect to wake up in a box in all honesty. he hadn't expected to fall asleep at all. the last thing he remembered was practicing his forms in his room as he waited for the general to call him for breakfast. there was no way he could have fallen asleep, not when he was training. unless...

a groan was heard right next to him. suddenly, he was hyperaware of the two other people stuck in the box with him. he couldn't move that much considering how little space there was but he did catch a glimpse of white and blue hair respectively. thankfully the box was big enough where they wouldn't be smushed together but it was still tight enough that they were forced to lean against each other.

one of the people snuggled into him, presumably still asleep. whoever says his face felt hot is a liar. the other person (who apparently had their arms around him) adjusted their grip around him. now he was effectively trapped.

the other two were mostly likely still asleep. yanqing started to think about their situation. most likely, they've all been drugged and kidnapped. but by who? it couldn't have been the disciples of sanctus medicus, their numbers have been dwindling by the day and it's impossible to sneak into the general's house without being noticed. that is unless they have someone insane enough in their ranks to do so. another option could be ransom or assassins but neither make sense. why not just kidnap him? why take these two others? why not take on the general directly like all the others?

"huh? where are we?"

yanqing didn't jump. "i don't know myself. i've been awake for a few minutes now." the one with white hair just hummed. she must've noticed they were touching because she suddenly tried to give him space. "oh my gosh, i'm so sorry! i didn't mean to-"

"hey, it's okay! there's not enough room to move in here and you were asleep."

"nnnnngh, my head hurts... huh?! wha-?!" it seems like the other person is awake now. they immediately tried to let go of him but he heard a thump. not big enough to let them move around. noted.

"well, now that we're all awake and stuck here with absolutely no explanation, we should probably introduce ourselves." yup. absolutely a great idea. great job yanqing. totally didn't make things awkward.

"um, i'm clara! i, uh, live in the underground of belobog with mr. svarog." belobog sounded somewhat familiar. isn't that the only city left on that one planet? he'll focus on that later.

"i'm lieutenant yanqing of the cloud knights. i live on the xianzhou luofu which is part of the xianzhou alliance." he could practically feel the person holding him vibrate with excitement.

"greeting, my name is misha. i serve as a bellboy at the reverie hotel on penacony." three different people from three different planets and factions. unless the other two were also important on their own planets, yanqing couldn't see why clara and misha would be taken as well. unless... no. he doesn't want to think about it.

the other two conversed as he thought about reasons as to why they would have been taken. doesn't mean he didn't notice the sudden rise in heat. misha must have noticed as well. could he also use ice or are bellboys just like that? no time to think as the box suddenly opened and they all tumbled out.

he could hear someone talking but he could only focus on clara and misha. no he didn't focus on their faces because he found them kind of pretty! he was just concerned that they were hurt! that's all. yeah.

he heard more groans coming from the room. it seems like they weren't the only ones taken. he looked over and froze. no way. maybe it's just the blue fire making him see things because there was no way.

but there was some way.

"QING-GE?"

"XIAO-BAI?"

not only did they take clara, misha, and him, but whoever kidnapped them also took lady bailu, future ten lord huohuo, and another little girl who clara seemed to know.

just who took them?

the way that a P who’s gained a significant amount of humanity will actually physically change to look like a young man old enough to have graduated rather than the more childish waif-like appearance he has at the start of the game makes me think that Geppetto, whether consciously or not, modeled him after Carlo when he was an age before their family relationship had been irreparably soured.

like, comparing the flashbacks we see of Carlo’s life, when he’s left at the Monad House as a young child he’s upset and anxious to know when Geppetto will return, but by the time we jump ahead several years to him telling Romeo that Geppetto missed his graduation he’s undeniably hurt but also much more bitter and (at least putting up a front of being) callous about it, remarking that he wouldn’t even care if Geppetto had kicked the bucket while he was away. i think P’s early game appearance probably comes from how Carlo looked during those years somewhere in between—a time when Carlo was less “difficult” about Geppetto’s neglect, perhaps, because Geppetto’s urge to bring Carlo back seems to be much less about him missing who Carlo was and more about trying to avoid/rewrite the truth of his own failures as a father.

maybe while Carlo was alive Geppetto had thought that he’d have time to fix things between them or that Carlo would eventually grow up to “understand” why Geppetto was always away—but then Carlo died tragically young, and he died resenting him. for Geppetto the only thing worse than this grievous loss would be acknowledging that Carlo was right to resent him. much easier to model this temporary replacement vessel after the Carlo from a time before he had given up on Geppetto as a father; much easier than confronting the fact that Geppetto was a father worth giving up on.

it’s fitting that the “Carlo” we see in the “Real Boy” ending seems far less human than P ever does, because he was never meant to be an accurate portrayal/resurrection of the young man Carlo was—rather, he’s compliant, and happy to see Geppetto, and ever so much more convenient than the real son who’d been so disappointed by his father.
