Time to share my biggest Ty headcanon.

If the Shadowhunters weren’t so ignorant about autism and the Blackthorn hadn’t grown up in such a secluded way due to their circumstances, Ty would have dozens of girls and boys after him. Let me explain:

1. Ty is very intelligent, like, extremely intelligent. Who doesn’t love a smart guy? Exactly.

2. He is beautiful (out of this world beautiful). Kit said it himself, he has a delicate yet firm body. And he was blessed with a model’s face (Kit literally describes it as an angelic one sometimes).

3. Despite his body looking delicate, he is not fragile. He can fight. He DOESN’T LIKE fighting (which in my opinion makes him even better), but he can do it, and he is good at it. This would make him more attractive to other Shadowhunters considering how much they value strength in combat.

4. HE’S A FREAKING DISNEY PRINCESS. He loves animals, and animals love him too, he can tame them, he literally tamed a lynx for Christ sake. Again, who doesn’t love an animal lover?, especially one that animals love back.

In conclusion, Kit would have had a lot more competition if Shadowhunters didn’t behave like Neanderthals at times and weren’t so ignorant about autism.

( he blames both of them. )

the bed jolts, as tessa places herself next to will. it seems to becoming a habit. the two of them -- rather, the three of them -- unable to allow much space between them. now, with tessa’s smaller shoulder pressed against his, and the soft melodic soothing of jem’s playing, the form of his strong arm pulling the bow taut against the strings in will’s peripheral, luring him into a trance [ . . . ] will allows his body to relax. though, he doesn’t slump, necessarily, he does feel himself lean into tessa. for a moment, he worries she might push him away. instead, she seems to lean in closer, too. her voice a soft whisper, as her breath tickles against his jaw.

her words surprise him -- nearly cause him to pull away from her, nearly cause him to stare at her. instead, he focuses on the soft hiccup within jem’s playing. they are shadowhunters, after all. their hearing is much better than the average human. so, will simply offers a soft, quiet clearing of his throat, as his eyes study the pages in front of him. “i don’t know, tess. james may not look it, but he’s a very jealous man.” will can just spot the way jem’s upper body seems to roll along with his eyes. a small smirk tugging against his mouth. “of course, he might enjoy watching, too. if he gave it a shot.” a single note fills the room, before jem’s offering the two of them -- mostly will -- a sharp glance. ‘that’s enough.’ will sighs, though it sounds more of a teenager girl seeing her crush than a boy being berated, as he turns his gaze to tessa. “see ? he’s no fun.”

that would be the dream for most - a luxury for a shadowhunter. they were not made to grow old, they were born to die in battle. to enter the city of bones and become a part of the next generation of warriors just like that. but tessa had not always been a shadowhunter - nor had will. and he quite likes the idea of growing old next to his wife. there was just the minor thing, tessa would not age. her body would stay young and strong, while will's would wither, he would age, change and grow weak. it isn't something he likes thinking about. the thought scares him, it makes him want to climb somewhere dark and hide from the world, hide from time and from death. surely it cannot claim him if he is nowhere to be found.

" i, however ... wish to stay young with you forever. " he interjects with a smile, a gentle boop to her nose with his index finger. the future was theirs, until time claimed him, and the future was hers alone. he has hopes that his parabatai will look after her. that perhaps they will reunite one day, that laws would change and allow for jem to come back to them once more. back to her, because will would not be there. and he doesn't know which hurts the most. losing them both, or not getting to live with them anymore.

my missed potential of tid is that if Cecily went earlier, before Will knew curse was fake, and he had to break further her heart

Yeah, exactly! Will isolates himself from his family to protect them from his curse, and in his mind running away must have broken their love for him. He has to believe that they're happier without him, because otherwise he caused all that pain for nothing.

That's another way that Nate & Tessa parallel Will & Cecily; Tessa clearly loves Nate no matter how many awful things he does, and Will is afraid that Cecily might love him that much and get herself killed. For all Will knows, that might have already happened. Will needs to believe that his own bad behavior will be enough to prevent anyone from loving him, because it's the only way he can have some measure of control over his curse. Will hates to see Nate receiving love despite it all, because it implies that he himself might be loved as well.

Will holds an image of Cecily in his mind who is happy and safe and has entirely forgotten him. Her arrival forces him to acknowledge the pain he caused to his family as more than just a vague concept. He wants to believe that they're all better off without him, because then he can console himself by thinking that even if he himself is miserable at least his family is happy. However, Cecily forces him to see that they never stopped loving him and never stopped struggling without him. Suddenly, he isn't just hurting himself.

Cecily coming to the Institute before Will learns the truth of his curse is an interesting concept. I agree that Will would have gone above and beyond in his efforts to alienate her, but I think her presence would also cause some sort of existential crisis for him. Cecily going out of her way to track Will down is proof that she still loves him, but her still being alive is proof (to Will) that she doesn't. He wouldn't just be imagining a sister who doesn't love him, he would be face-to-face with her.

TSC is full of so many rich and textured sibling relationships, and I love talking about them. Will and Cecily aren't given much comparative focus in TID, but they still have so much to dig into.

Magnus is Alec's life and Alec is Magnus's death

One minor post to dive into this new theory I have. We know there are a lot of parallels and symmetries between malec: angel/demon, moon/sun, introvert/extrovert, silver/gold, etc Then I start thinking deeper into this tendency of their dynamic to push and pull each other, and come to this

1. Magnus is Alec's life

City of Bones

In the sense that Magnus has helped save Alec's life countless times, it was established in their small breadcrumbs in one of their earliest interaction, when he saved Alec from the demon poison. One can say this quite literally set the foundation of their relationship, as Alec asked Magnus out while visiting Magnus to say thank you for saving his life

City of Heavenly Fire

He also saved Alec again during the gang's journey to Edom, even though Magnus wasn't present. Alec's hallucination, caused by the demons, includes a lot of people, yet Magnus is the one who snaps him out of it, insisting that life is worth living more than fantasy.

Magnus also brings life to Alec in a metaphorical sense, "breathing a new life" into him. Opening his eyes to new beauties, chances, and people, letting Alec know that yes, he is built for storybook moments too

Queen of Air and Darkness

Magnus is his biggest muse, inspiration. Magnus makes him strive every day to make the world a better place. Alec wants to be better for Magnus, for their family, he loves him so much, he will bend and break the narrative for the future in which Magnus can be happy

2. Alec is Magnus's death

On many occasions, when Magnus has a near encounter with death, he remembers or thinks about Alec. Is it because somehow Magnus got the worst luck in existence and keeps kissing death every two months and stressing his friends and family out? Maybe. But this kind of proves Alec is present a lot during Magnus' perceived final hour

Many times, people have told Magnus Alec will be "the death of him", referencing how his angelic blood and family will make him eventually choose his shadowhunter community above all else, and abandoning Magnus (not featured pictures, cause honestly there are like a lot). I kind of find it interesting how it ties up to Magnus's perception of himself, and eventually of Alec, like when he's kind of implying Alec should prioritize his life over Magnus's here

Death, of course, can translate to other things, not just a physical one. The death of one's old self, a transformation, aligning with how Magnus is describing Alec's presence in his life here

3. We Have to Talk About The Black and White Impermanence

For the sake of my argument, let's theorize White Impermanence as "life" and Black Impermanence as "death."

Alec eventually succeeds in his trial, and he is able to give "death" to Magnus. And we also know this is true because-

In Thule, Alec did kill Magnus after he turned into a demon. And after Alec's "life" is gone, he is gone too

I don't see people talk about this a lot, but from the way I interpret it, Magnus, too, has his own trial with the sword in The Lost Book of the White, and he passes it. He gives "mercy" to Alec, making Shiyun spares Alec's life. By submitting to Sammael, he literally gives "life" to Alec, while Alec brings "death" to him via death of the self, because Magnus's biggest fear is becoming a demon (stated he would rather be killed than that)
