My brain is too mushy rn to articulate more than vague notes to self, but something something the commonality of protagonists who are basically unformed everymen and thus less interesting than all the supporting characters in their own story. Something something sometimes this is about trying to make protagonists who are blandly '''relatable''' but I think often it's just an easy route to narrative dynamism (or an attempt at it) because it leaves so much room for change and growth. Something something there's nothing inherently wrong with this storytelling framework, in fact it can work really well, but in aggregate it can get really tedious when stories are saturated with protagonists who age like Olympic gymnasts (hearing the Call To Adventure at 25 makes you OLD) and are orphans with zero family ties, outsiders with little connection to or context for the setting in which the story takes place, and/or just plain old naive/politically apathetic/weirdly bland and unfinished. Like I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with that kind of youthful blank slate of a protagonist. But I do sometimes get the impression that some writers (maybe unconsciously) limit themselves to a particular kind of character arc that they have absorbed as The Most dynamic and interesting way to tell a story, but which can actually come off as pretty flat and formulaic.

see I totally get that rtd was trying to do a ‘bent necked lady’ but I feel like the most horrible part of that story for me was that some part of nellie crane was trapped in that cycle forever

8 and 3 for DN? (:
thanks! 8. DN + common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about: Light would NOT remain in denial about being gay forever, nor would he perhaps be extremely self-flagellating about it... in fact I feel like he actually already knew by the end of the story (around the time when he was inwardly like "yeah, you're right, most of this WAS because I was just that obsessed with L....") My headcanon is he might still be pretty inclined to lead a double life around it, but he's probably not actually that ashamed of the idea of being gay once he actually realizes and accepts it 3. Screenshot or description of the worst take you've seen on Tumblr: Any of those in-all-seriousness hot takes that go something like "Light was SO stupid for not changing the causes of death in the notebook, nobody would have tracked him down if he was more creative with it lmaoo what an idiot." MY BROTHER IN CHRIST HE DID THAT ON PURPOSE BECAUSE HE WANTED TO BE NOTICED / WAS TRYING TO BECOME A GOD PASSING RIGHTEOUS JUDGEMENT ON THE MASSES, it's literally in chapter/episode one, he says it's "the best thing about the notebook" that it defaults to a heart attack, and HE ALSO WAS TRYING TO LURE L IN WITH A LOT OF WHAT HE DID ON PURPOSE SO HE COULD FIND AND KILL HIM AS WELL etc etc etc dafjajaja it literally makes me foam at the mouth and turn into the most ackshually know-it-all keyboard warrior if I don't give myself a moment to calm down lol

Hello guys don’t mind me just inconspicuously sliding these messy doodles onto here ignore them lol
Somehow managed to get strung along with drawing these two crazy cartoon fellas. Not too sure how that simultaneously happened at the same time but oh well! The Bill ones where mostly for my personal sake to historically mark what day I bought a copy of the book, been reading the pages and absolutely love the illustrations so far (plus the writing style is so entertaining. I’ll be damned this triangle might even write better the Geronimo Stilton). Just pure eye candy no regrets selling away my free will yet :)) wish I knew how to mimic writing his dialogue but alas can never get it accurate
As for the Mr. Puzzles art uh….I’m late to the bandwagon, only learned about Creative Control & SMG4 a few days ago << Mostly consuming it through fan content and lots of clips exclusively of TV head man. Props to the voice actor I really love how the lines are delivered. Thought it would be beneficial for me to do a character/art study of Puzzles range of expressions, and try to keep the head proportions consistent when drawing multiple times. Dunno if it worked but uh-yeah I’ll figure it out soon enough jksjsksp

My Bishop OC, Phanes, Goddess of Life
She's a Gecko!
Tumblr media
Origins
She was initially made to be a foil the Narinder.
She is/was the estranged sister if the Bishops. Phanes' deep compassion for living things put her at odds with her others siblings due to them causing suffering. She still cared for the bishops as living creatures but preferred to keep them at an emotional distance.
Tumblr media
Bishop of life
As the goddess of life, she is the cosmic counterpart to Narinder, the god of death. It was their joint responsible to manage the existance of mortals and keep the universal forces in balance. Their philosophical differences made this difficult but they did so out of godly duty. Until Narinder began to...change. He begin showing interest in Phanes' duties and powers, most notably, her ability to bring new life into existance. It was against the her Divine Oath to share the nature of her life powers and rituals with another god, especially a Death god. Separation of duties it was deemed. But, in her enthusiasm of finally bonding with her normally aloof and reclusive brother, she shared with him the power to recall departed life from the aether. The act would be the catalyst for things to come...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Imprisoned
When Phanes learned of Shamura's plan to kill/imprison Narinder, she was it's loudest objector. Her love for life extended to all things, even the god of death. She did not believe any percieved crimes on his part warranted death. He was their brother, distant and brooding, but their brother nonetheless. This situation could be delt with peacefully, without resorting to fratricide. This was a grave error on Phanes' part, as she could not comprehend the extent of Shamura's maliciousness. Knowing now that their secret plan had been compromised, Shamura tricked Phanes into believing they would all meet together to discuss their grievances, only to cast a powerful freezing curse on her, leaving her frozen in permafrost for the rest of all time. Until a chance encounter with one of her brother's vessels....
Goddess of Life
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She loves life in all forms is very passionate about evolution and creature animal morphology. She was the original designer for life forms in COTL and is ecstatic to learn how they have changed over time. As a god she doesn't respect the personal boundaries of mortals and will inspect them as they were scientific specimens.

I swear I keep seeing people dislike something and having to act like they're morally right about not liking the thing. Like move on with your life ffs. You don't need to look at it or interact with the thing if you don't like it. Why bother wasting time on it?

I got a question for any of the Jumblr who follow me. I guess it's something of a discussion topic? Help me to better understand this.
I saw the post explaining that there is no such thing as a non antisemitic conspiracy theory and it got me thinking about media representation.
Specifically the stereotype of characters who are around money a lot. Not all merchants are codes Jewish, but almost all Jewish people in modern media are depicted as being highly concerned with their personal wealth.
And specifically I'm thinking about this capitalist character named Zeki from this free to play game Palia.
Tumblr media
He is a wealthy merchant, and all of your early game experiences with him have him shilling his products to you, at one point he makes a joke about paying one of the towns folk kids in candy to dig up the worms he sells to fishrfolk. He'll ask you to spread flyers to people for his underground buisness. And while he claims his products aren't illegal, I get the feeling he's tax dodging.
Other than being a seedy merchant who always has an eye on his coin pouch, nothing else stands out about him. He's friendly enough but because he's putting on a good public face and that's just good for buisness.
I guess my question/issue here is that Zeki is the ONLY Grimalkin we get to personally encounter so far. So he's like... an ambassador for his race? Currently the players AFAIK can't leave the immediate area. So now we kind of have this unconscious expectation that Grimalkins are merchants. Whether intended or not, our only other experience with Grimalkins are secondhand stories and a series of journals from a Grimalkin pirate that you can find.
Not really sure what my point is here but with recent posts on my mind and understanding that people are still killing Jewish people for dumb shit like blood libel and stupid conspiracy theories its just led me to be a bit more critical of some character tropes?
I don't think Zeki's design is malicious,, but im a goyim trying to listen and learn and it just feels.... off that they made this one non elf character the proprietor of the general store with a seedy after dark, tax dodging buisness, who always is trying to sell you something....I mean it's not too far of a logic leap to imagine people making stereotypical jokes that he must be Jewish because he's a merchant?
Idk. Its probably just my internalized antisemitism materializing and making something out of nothing in an attempt to "be better"
When really I could be committing Jewish holidays to memory to make it easier to not bother them during family stuff.
