Yu Suzuki
Yu Suzuki is a Japanese game designer, producer, programmer, and engineer, who headed Sega's AM2 team for 18 years. Considered one of the first auteurs of video games, he has been responsible for a number of Sega's arcade hits, including three-dimensional sprite-scaling games that used taikan motion simulator arcade cabinets, such as Hang-On, Space Harrier, Out Run, and After Burner, and pioneering polygonal 3D games such as Virtua Racing and Virtua Fighter, which are credited with popularizing 3D graphics in video games, as well as the critically acclaimed Shenmue series. As a hardware engineer, he led the development of various arcade system boards, and was involved in the technical development of the Dreamcast console and its corresponding NAOMI arcade hardware.
In 2003, Suzuki became the sixth person to be inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame. IGN listed him at number 9 in their Top 100 Game Creators of All Time list. In 2011, he received the Pioneer Award at the Game Developers Choice Awards. As a producer, he worked on games such as Daytona USA, which featured texture filtering in 1993, and Virtua Cop, which in 1994 introduced 3D polygons to light gun shooters, and influenced the seminal 1997 first-person shooter GoldenEye 007. A friend asked me to give a stab at a Tierlist Maker for Video Games Not Yet In the Video Game Hall of Fame Tier List Maker, so here's my list for it!
This is based primarily on what I considered to be overall value to gaming history as a whole, with games with greater influence or impact ranking higher than those that had less impact on those to follow, or on culture. All the entries are those that have been nominated to the Hall of Fame, but not actually inducted as of this post's writing. Games that I personally like are generally rated higher, though mostly because I'm more familiar with them and thus can judge their impact from a personal POV.
(Tier List explainations, below!)
SHOULD BE IN ALREADY
Final Fantasy: I mean seriously. How is this one not already in yet?? It is not, as my research suggests, the first true RPG; that likely goes to games like Ultima. It is certainly an incredibly influential one; FF is a name closely associated with JRPGs in general, and its diverse class system is one of the strongest things to do with it, as noted by challenges like beating the game with a party of Black Belts. FF is THE name of RPGs in general and I'm startled it hasn't made it in, though I suppose that's owing to more notable entries (Hard as that is to imagine). It doesn't hurt that the majority of my favorite FF titles are those most similar to this one, such as FF6 and FF9, in terms of approaching the general world setting and class systems. Most significantly is that this game popularized RPGs and made them accessible, in ways that previous games such as Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest did not; the field of gaming would be VERY different without it; RPGs became VERY popular, to the extent of RPG elements being almost universal among other games in the modern day. (I am also pleased and amused to see 8-Bit Theater mentioned on the actual Wikipedia page. Now THAT'S notability!)
Sid Meir's Civilization: HEY NOW HALL OF FAME JUDGES, DON'T YOU BE MOCKING CIV, ALRIGHT. CIV IS FUCKING AWESOME. Okay, jokes aside, I'm genuinely astonished as the Civ series is considered the first true main game of the 4x series, and it shows; the entire genre centers around expansion, resource usage and diplomacying or conquering your enemies, and considering the impact of this game and its sheer popularity, to the extent of the meme of the game getting people to play for Just One More Turn, I'm a bit disappointed that it's not already in the hall of fame. I also note that I am personally more familiar with the spin off Alpha Centauri, a sci fi variant, which is still one of my all time favorite games.
Half-Life: Given this game's popularity, to the point of its release alone consigning the likes of Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines to cult classic status and its engine spawning a whole THING with GMod and the usage of physics mechanics in FPS games, one thing of note is its use of scripted sequences; at the time, an unknown in most games of the time. There may be something to be said for how the entire game is spent as Gordon Freeman, behind his eyes, possibly engendering a lack of separation between self and character that would be later emphasized in games like Bioshock. It's influence on games cannot be denied, with publications using it as a bookend between eras of gaming. One consistent element of what seems to make this game so distinctive is its approach to storytelling, without simply imitating film techniques which don't always work well with gameplay.
Candy Crush: This is an example of something I don't personally play myself, or even like very much, but I'd be remiss to dismiss it out of hand. There's no denial that phone games are one of, if not THE biggest market of games in the here in now; if now in scale, certainly in quantity. You might call it the TF2 Hat Economy theory; people aren't spending BIG bucks, but they are spending a LOT of little bucks all the time. It proves that highly accessible games that are generally free to play, with optional purchases, are a legitimate means of game business, and this certainly revolutionized how games were seen by the money-makers.
Super Smash Bros Melee: I loved this game as a kid, but truth be told i have a bit of a love-hate relationship; i REALLY dislike the competitive community that has fixated hard on this game, so any thoughts on it will have a slight element of pause beforehand. Even so, I can't forget the thrilled delight I felt watching the trailer for this game in supermarkets for the first time as a kid. at a time when getting any new games at all was a HUGE deal in my family. So, there is a lot of feeling behind this one! Ultimately, I have to concede that while i have complicated feelings about this game, its worth noting that the vast majority of things that made Smash iconic, and influenced the competitive scene AND the games inspired by Smash AND shaped the course of the series going forwards, largely owe themselves to Melee in particular. 64 was far more slow paced, while Melee began the trend towards much more fast paced action (and while I doubt it's SPECIFIC to melee as a whole, it may have been a trend for the genre from then). Melee is STILL widely played, especially on the competitive scene, and this sort of longevity always bears evidence of notability.
Goldeneye 007: I have to admit that despite being a kid in the 90s, despite someone who put most of their time into gaming, and despite being someone whose favorite system at the time was the Nintendo 64, I mostly missed out on the trend of history by honestly not being that much into this game. I have to say that I DID play it, however; I just never managed to get past the first level or so. I have strong memories of triyng and failing to sneak around a snowy lair of some description; it wouldn't be until the mid-2000s, playing Deus Ex Human Revolution, that I got the hang of stealth. All the same, personal indifference really doesn't matter much because HOLY SHIT THIS GAME HAS SOME STAYING POWER. IT HAS INFLUENCE, FRIENDORITOS. Perhaps chiefly, at the time it was made, consoles were not considered viable platforms for first person shooters; Goldeneye revised that notion, and created a whole revolution in multiplayer and shooter games. We would later see the ultimate consequence of this in games like Halo, which further revolutionized the whole genre. Ironically, the stealth attributes I was so bad at were part of what made the game so unique! It's one of those games that may not have aged well, by modern standards, but its import to gaming as a whole goes a long, long way.
Guitar Hero: I expect this one might be a bit hard to justify, but on its own, this game is INCREDIBLY innovative, though its not entirely the first of its kind, having mechanics based on earlier games. The very first entry has a respectable library of 30 songs, which is impressive considered at the time it was made, its not likely people expected it to get as far as it did; bear in mind that the massive libraries of later games were the result of years of this game series being a massive steamroller of a franchise! At the time, this one was an unknown. It has an interesting history as being a successor of sorts to an arcade exclusive, and inspiring a genre of imitators and spiritual successors on its own; of great note is the sheer impact this game had. With so many of those successors, the increased value of liscened soundtracks, and the way the game's concept became so influential, its astounding this one isn't already on the hall of fame. (It's also very fun, but fun alone doesn't make for memorability, sad to say.)
DESERVES IT AT SOME POINT
Myst - an iconic and incredibly atmospheric puzzle game, I'm genuinely surprised that I haven't heard talk about this one in some respect; it bears note as a rare game with absolutely no conflict whatsoever. I actually rank this one on par with the 7th Guest in terms of atmospheric games, though their tones could not be more different. So why do I think this game deserves it at some point? It was an incredibly immersive and beautiful game, lacking in genuine danger or threat, encouraging the player to explore and tackle the puzzles of the game. This sort of open-ended lack of peril makes it an interesting precursor towards certain flavors of sandbox games around now. It's worth noting that it was a tremendous achievement, given technical limitations of things such as the CD-Rom it was stored on, maintaining a consistent experience, as well as tying narrative reasons into those very constraints. It has been compared to an art film; if so, it certainly is the sort that invited imitators and proved to be a great technical achievement.
Portal: PORTAL! What can I honestly say that hasn't already been said by other people? The amazing integration of a physics engine into innovative puzzle solving, combined with a slow burn sort of minimalist plot reveal concerning the AI proving itself to be a kind of reverse HAL 9000? This game got a HUGE number of memes back in the day, and I expect anyone reading this can probably reference a few. The cake thing, certainly, and its relevance to matters of deception. There is much discussion over the game's utility in academic circles, which is certainly quite notable, and for my part, I'm interested by the point that at first the game gives you a lot of hints towards what you're supposed to do, gradually making it less obvious for the player you're on your own entirely, using your experience with the game to get past the puzzles from there, and its excellent game design. Ultimately though, I place this below Half Life in hall of fame urgency, because while I probably like this one more, it doesn't have the same impact on other games, per say. (That's a lot of awards for it, though. Wowza.)
Resident Evil: Is it fair to call this one the major survival horror game of its era? No, because it's apparently the FIRST, or at least the first to be called such. It's certainly up there with shaping the genre as a whole, both its immediate predecessors and modern games. The flavor of a survival horror can even be judged about whether its close to Resident Evil's style of defending yourself with limited resources vs controlled helplessness. It's also worth pointing out that I quite like the restricted, cramped setting of the mansion, rather than an expansive city; Biohazard was a real return to form, even if its something I mostly watched through funny lets plays because OH NO ITS TOO SCARY I CANT WATCH.
Asteroids: It's called the first major hit of the golden age of the arcade. I'm forced to say... yeah, it absolutely deserves it. The actual implementation and hardware of the game makes for interesting reading, and so its innovative nature ought to be noted: it lacked a soundchip at all, making use of handmade circuits wired to the board. It's reception was great, beating out Space Invaders and needing larger boxes just to hold all the money people spent on it. It also invented the notion of tracking initials on the top ten score, which has implications for arcade challenges.
Ms. Pac Man: This one consistently ranks HIGH in gaming records of its time, though there is admittedly some confusion to whether it or Donkey Kong was a better seller. Interestingly it appears to shape most of the gameplay mechanics people remember most for Pac-Man, such as the improved AI of the ghosts. It's more highly regarded than the original game, and on a personal note, I remember being a kid and seeing this arcade machine at ALL the laundry places my family usually wound up going to.
Frogger: It's placing on this list is not solely because CUTE FROG. The accessibility and wide appeal of the game bears a great deal of consideration, the flexibility of its formula, and just how many dang times it's been ported in one form or another. (And also, cute frog.) It also gets points for the creator being inspired for the game when he saw a frog trying to cross a road, hampered by the vehicles in the way, and he got out of his car and carried the frog across the street. The game is also evident of broad appeal, and some money-makers resisting it, goes back a long way; it was apparently dismissed as a kid's game by some, which just goes to show that some problems are older than quite a lot of gamers alive today.
Uncharted 2: this is one of those games where I cannot honestly say I have personal experience to draw from. Of the playstation's big games, I remember the Jak and Daxter series; I remember Kingdom Hearts, and I remember Ratchet and Clank, and I remember Infamous, but the Uncharted series remains
something of a 'I don't go here?' obscurity in my personal playbook. It does look memorable and charming from what I've seen, and one consistent element I've seen in comments about it is the cinematic nature of the game; it feels very much like a fun heist movie, based on what I have seen of it, and the notable thing is how the game FEELS cinematic.. in a literal way. As in, it combined elements of cinematography with game design, and that's no mean feat: what works for movies are unlikely to translate well to the interactive side, and it shows how that can be done for other games. The extensive praise does the game a LOT of credit!
WORTH NOMINATION AT LEAST
Angry Birds: As noted before, I'm not the biggest fan of most phone games, given that i prefer a more passive experience than most provide. As such, Angry Birds isn't something I've played as of this writing, but I have to appreciate the straightforward and simple gameplay; it reminds me a bit of the Burrito Bison game series, which I HAVE played, and I'm going to go out on a limb and assume it's because Angry Birds is probably the innovation that coined that particular style of gameplay. It's an example of what made phone games profitable and worth the time of developers to work at them; its easy for casual players to get into, and there's a fun sort of impact involved. Given the popularity of phone games, this one has a LOT of influence in getting that rolling, similar to candy crush, if not as much.
FIFA International Soccer: Simulation games are a tricky business; it can be really difficult to get them right, and this game provides an example of it being done in a way that a lot of people REALLY loved, set up an entire game series, and revived the 3DO system after a very bad year. Of note, apparently it was commented that it was more of a simulator than a console game, and this is rather funny considering how simulator is its own genre nowadays! Such do things change. It seems to have been a revolutionary game and simulation; setting the shape for modern sport games of its type, and tending more towards realism (accounting for acceptable breaks in reality) than was typical of the time. This one's position is thus picked for its impact as a whole; while it may not necessarily be a household name now, the series continues on, and is popular enough that even after 20 years, it's still been going.
Elite: I nominate this game in this position for being a startlingly early entry into what we would now consider open-ended games, even with an element of exploration and trading; if one stretches definitions a bit, a precursor towards gameplay of the like scene in 4X players who strive to avoid conflict, if possible. Its technical breakthroughs are some very interesting reading and make for good game history; a vast and complex game (not just by the standards of the era, either), and opening the door for persistent world games such as World of Warcraft.
Wii Sports: A significant game, and much as how other titles mentioned above were famed for gateway entries into gaming for an unfamiliar audience, or those that would want o play on a more casual basis. It seems notable to me for being most suited as a family game, or a more casual experience of multiplayer than usually associated with games like this; this has greatly influenced Nintendo's design philosophy, and one can see elements of this all the way through the Wii U onwards. It's essentially a fliparound from Mario Party; less competitiveness, but definitely meant as a group thing. Controversy is evident, because like with Mario Party, injuries did result from it.
Call of Duty: I place this one here because, while it DOES hold a very significant role in gaming history, with countless imitators, spiritual successors, being a game-changer in ways that its modern reputation might surprise you with, ultimately it is less so than other games such as Goldeneye, Halo or Half-Life. It's development in AI pathfinding and tactics is incredibly noteworthy from a mechanical perpsective, and the sheer level of awards it won is notable. In the end this game's popularity and continuing influence means that it shouldn't be overlooked.
Metroid: You can't spell 'Metroidvania' without this game! A relatively open ended exploration-based game with further options opening as new tools were found give it an interesting vibe, and the oppressive atmosphere distinctive to the game says great things about its sound and level designs. It wasn't the first open world game, or explorer, or even the first to open new aereas based on equipment, but it had ALL of these elements in a very memorable package. (Samus Aran as a female protagonist is something I'm a bit reluctant to give it credit for, as her identity was obfuscated for most of the game, and only revealed in a fanservicey way in a secret ending. All the same, credit where it is due, I suppose!) It's music seems to endure as a mood setter, too!
Pole Position: Perhaps not the FIRST racing game, but still considered one of the most important from the golden age of gaming, and the one to codify many of the firm rules of the game series. It's three dimensional gameplay is incredibly innovative for its time, and having played it and games like it in the past, I'm struck by how smooth the whole thing feels. No wonder it was popular! It is notable for having been designed specifically as a 3d Experience, meant to execute techniques like real drivers might attempt, which makes it a different sort of beast in that it tried to do more realistic actions; in some ways, a precursor to modern trends of realism in many games, for ill or best. Ultimately I think this one is worth a nomination because of its influence towards racing games (a popular and long lived genre, to say the least) as a whole.
OUTSIDE CHANCE
Nurburgring 1: On the one hand, I feel a bit guilty putting this one so low; it is recognized as likely being the earliest racing game in history, and given that I just finished noting Pole Position's influence, it feels a bit mean to rate this one as relatively insignificant all the same. However, in terms of notability, I never even heard of this one, and it was tricky finding information about it. Accordingly, that may say something about its influence, though this position DOES make it noteworthy as the first of its kind, albeit with Pole Position refining and introducing elements that shaped the genre.
Dance Dance Revolution: It feels a bit strange, putting this one fairly low. This thing was a MONSTER back in the day; entire arcades were built around the dancing control peripherals it required, rhythm based games or mechanics specifically invoked it by name, and it was an absolute cultural touchstone for years and years. So, why place it low? Partly, its because I can't just shove EVERYTHING into the 'deserves a nomination' folder; I do think it's fairly reasonable for this one to at some point get a nomination in the future, though ultimately there's games more noteworthy on the whole. It's specific rhythm qualities continue outside of its genre, and are quite influential to gaming as a whole, though unfortunately the series seems to have lost something in notability over time; popularity is a factor, but so is the impact on other games.
NBA 2K and NBA Jam: I put these two together because they touch on similar touchstones for me, and they really did popularize basketball games back in the day. Jam in particular seems to be invoking the Big Head mode that were a big thing in games at the time, at least going from the screenshot. They were very popular and highly beloved games back in the day, though I don't know if they have much influence on later games. I note that interestingly, they take opposite approaches; 2k focuses on AI and realistic experiences, while Jam was deliberately less realistic and more actiony in its over the top gameplay.
Nokia Snake: This one really impresses me for the sheer number of releases, in various forms, it's had! Interestingly, there seems to be little consensus on the name of this game; most just call it Snake or something on that theme. I went with Nokia Snake because... mostly, it sounds funny, and that's how its done on the list. This one is fairly low, but I Have to give it credit for having hundreds of releases!
Farmville: My mom liked Facebook games, a lot. And I am certain this one was one of her main ones! I rate it fairly low, and no doubt her spirit is yelling imprecations at me across the void of time, space, and abandoned socks; all the same, this one is ranked low because of the sheer number of displeasure aimed this one's way. (And to be fair, she complained about it. A LOT.) It is thus notable for unusually negative reasons; an example of exploitation, pressuring players to pester their friends to play it in an equivalent to electronic chain mail, and microtranscations.
Tron: I'm inclined to give any game that takes place in a computer land and uses programming or mechanical terminology a free pass! Interestingly, this has some association with the Snake game, as they have similar gameplay and Snake games are sometimes called Light Cylce games, after this one. It has an interesting history; the graphical system was chosen largely because it was believed it was more likely to be achieved before the deadline.
NO BUSINESS IN THE HALL OF FAME
Mattel Football: I do feel a little mean putting anything in this category; firstly because I don't want to make actual fans of something sad, and secondly because I believe you can probably find notability anywhere you look, if you are inclined. And here is the chief difficulty with this one: I could not find any real information in this one. It has no Wikipedia page, a google search only led to undescriptive links of SALES for the game, but not any information on the game itself. Notability is my main resource for sorting these entries, and honestly? If google has nothing on you, that's a pretty poor sign. Sorry, Mattel Football, but you look like a poor man's Game And Watch. You're no Portal, Myst or Pole Position.

The chime of the elevator arriving to its floor rang out through Harrison’s ears, and he slowly stepped out into the hall. Leaning on his newly acquired black cane, he walked down the familiar hallway to Q’s lab.
“You look like shit.” Tom commented as soon as Harrison stepped into the room.
“Nice to see you too.” He replied. “Anything new for me?”
Tom let out a small sigh, shaking his head. “You’re not in the field anymore, remember? M would have my head if I give you a new gadget.” There was a pause between the two of them as Harrison didn’t know what to say, just looking down at the table of blueprints and computers. “I know why you’re here.”
“And any updates?” Harrison asked.
“You know as much as I do.” He said, “M has been quiet about it, even Moneypenny doesn’t know.”
“I just would’ve thought we’d know something by now.” He mumbled.
“We? Or you?”
Tom’s words made Harrison go silent again, and he turned around to leave the room. He stumbled a bit, still getting used to his cane. Tom called out to him just as he reached the elevator, “Cuba. Last I heard.”
Harrison stepped back into the elevator, leaning against the cool metal as the doors shut once again. He sighed, closing his eyes in hopes of finding some peace. His free hand ghosted over the stitches on his hip from the bullet wound.
If someone would’ve asked him two months ago where he thought he’d be in his life, he wouldn’t have said here. No, he would’ve never even guessed that he’d be anywhere near this physical and mental state. He didn’t feel like an agent anymore, he didn’t feel like a famed womanizer; he just felt lonely.
It had been one and a half months since his last mission ended, since he got shot when trying to protect you from Oddjob’s bullets, since he was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery, since he saw you. You had stayed by his side until he went into surgery, but once he came to, all patched up and okay again, you were gone, vanished without a trace.
The original rumor going around MI6 was that you went awol, mia, rogue. Those rumors still lingered, but then it got out that you had been corresponding with M, on a special top-secret mission. Moneypenny, M’s most trusted assistant, and Tom, M’s most trusted genius, didn’t even know. Harrison hadn’t even heard from you, not truly. All he had was a “wish you were here” postcard from Venice and that didn’t even have a message on it except for a small 006 written in the corner.
For the past few weeks, his life had been full of readjustments. The MI6 physician had barred him from any field work, placing him on temporary leave. He was supposed to keep exercise to a minimum, which was why the only time he got out was when he journeyed to Q to ask him the same question once a week.
When Harrison got back to his apartment, it felt colder than usual as if the window was open, and he never left the window open. He clutched his cane tighter, finger hovering over the trigger button that would turn the simple object into a knife, one Q had designed for him for protective measures. Slowly, his eyes scanned his dark living room before flicking on the light.
Nothing seemed out of place.
Nothing except for the new “greetings from Havana” postcard sitting on his coffee table.
Smiling to himself, he eased up as he saw the recognizable “006” in the corner. He toyed with the postcard in his hand, making his way over to the open window across the room. The moment he shut and locked it, he heard a creak in the floorboards down the hall in his bedroom.
He set the postcard back down on the coffee table on his way through the living room and down the hall. He stepped into his bedroom, turning on the light in the process. Just as he was about to go check further in his apartment, he noticed a new object in his room. In the armchair in the corner of the room sat a familiar hat- the hat of Oddjob, and peaking out from under the hat was a golden gun.
“What’s a girl gotta do to get a martini around here?” He heard a voice from behind him. “Shaken. Not stirred.”
Smirking, Harrison turned around. “Oh, I’ve missed you.”
He barely got the words out before your lips were on his for a passionately tender kiss. Harrison dropped the cane to wrap both of his arms around your waist. Your lips pulled away from his, “I told you I’d kill Oddjob. Sorry it took so long.”
“Anytime away from you is too long, angel.”
“I’m glad to see you haven’t changed.” You smiled, but the playfulness dropped when your hand brushed over the wound. Your fingers felt the scarred skin, still recovering from the bullet, as his own fingers traced over your old bullet wound. You whispered quietly to him, “So now you know what it feels like to get shot.”
“It’s a feeling I never want to experience again.” His hand trailed up from your hip to cup the side of your face.
“Me neither. I know that you can handle yourself, but you really scared me that night.”
“That’s the job, love. I’m fine now.” He reassured you with a smile. You raised your eyebrows at him, pressing harder on the wound and he winced, grabbing your hand to take it away from his skin.
“Fine, huh?” You teased, bending down to grab the cane off the floor.
“Fine.” Harrison replied. As he went to take it from your hands, he noticed the cut through your jeans and the gash on your leg, running down the side of your shin. “What happened?”
“It’s nothing.” You insisted as if it was a simple scratch. With his cane, Harrison made his way over to his bathroom, getting out the first aid kit. You sat down on the bed, already knowing what he’d ask. He sat on the edge with you, pulling your leg over his lap.
“Did Oddjob do this to you?” He asked, moving away the torn material of your jeans to apply disinfectant to your wound. When he finally got a good look at it, he realized it wasn’t very deep and the blood hadn’t fully dried yet. “I thought you were in Havana. How is this wound so fresh?”
“Let’s just say I won’t be climbing through the window anymore.” You watched with a smile on your face as confusion crossed Harrison’s face before he was struck with realization and that signature smirk played on his lips.
“My window did this to you? Wow, 006, you’re really slipping up.” He teased, wrapping your leg with a bandage.
“Shut up.” You rolled your eyes at him, unable to hold back your smile. “I will beat you with your cane if you tell anyone at MI6 about this.”
“Oh, will you now?” Harrison asked, pressing down onto your cut and you grimaced, just as he had earlier. You shoved his hand off you and scooted closer to him, your faces just mere inches apart.
“You’re the worst, Osterfield.” You laughed, your eyes trailing from his eyes to his lips as you leaned in closer to him.
Just before your lips met his, he mumbled, “Yeah, you’re pretty insufferable yourself, Y/L/N.”
“Dickhead.” You playfully slapped his chest. Harrison just chuckled before his hand came to the back of your head, leading your lips to his. He deepened the kiss, and you shifted fully into his lap, mindful of both of your wounds.
“You’re the best partner I could’ve asked for.” He said softly, his lips barely leaving yours as he spoke.
“I know.” You smiled before continuing to kiss him. Both of you were more than content to be back in each other’s arms.

🔥 ℝise Ⱥbove I̾t ◈ My Hero Academia [47/?] ◔
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hello, and welcome to my brand new fanfiction for the anime My Hero Academia/Boku no Hero Academia! This anime makes me so happy and I’m always so hyped when I watch the anime. I’ve been reading a lot of fanfiction for the series lately, and I decided I wanted to write, one as well! I spent weeks trying to find a plot that worked for me and I’m so excited that I found one.
I’d like to give some information about the series before you begin reading!
First off, this fic will be written in the first-person point of view, occasionally switching to third-person for the story’s sake. The original character, Jen Winchester, is quite snarky and cusses like a sailor, so I’d like to add a warning for explicit language. I usually go with really angsty themes, and I was planning on making it that way at first, but I want to try and create a fic that makes people laugh and smile! That’s not to say there won’t be any angst at all, but I’m going to try and make it less so with her remarks and attitude.
While I am mainly writing this fic for myself because it makes me happy, I’m more than happy to share it with others! Hopefully, you guys enjoy it as much as I am. I hope you’ll take a moment to share your thoughts and comments with me~
As for the pairing, I haven’t yet decided who she will be paired with, but there will be romance later on. Currently, I’m thinking of Todoroki or someone from class 1-B, but this could change in the future. I will try my best not to make her a Mary-Sue or super overpowered. I’ve gone over the plot of this fic with my friend, who is super critical when it comes to the small details, so hopefully, everything will flow smoothly from one event to the other without too many plot holes.
I think that’s it! Thanks for stopping by, I hope you all enjoy this fic, I’m working really hard on it! ^-^)/
xoxo Rain
The title of this fic pays tribute to the song of the same name by I Prevail.

Jen Winchester grew up in a world where superpowers exist only on the big screen or lining the pages of books. She’s just a normal seventeen-year-old girl trying to make it through high school while fending off her childhood bullies, Skye and Heather, but she’s always been a problematic child in the eyes of those around her. She was raised by her grandfather, Shimazu Tegu, who did his best to act as both mother and father, but there is a lot he has kept hidden from her.
When her bullying is taken too far, Jen finds herself in a precarious situation – she gave Skye third-degree burns just by touching her face. Dazed and confused, her world begins to swirl around her like an unforgiving tornado. She is whisked away to a different world where most of the population have powers, known simply as ‘Quirks’.
She begins her journey of self-discovery, determined to find her place in the universe, all the while trying to piece together her mother’s haunting past. Does she have what it takes to become a hero? Or will she fall down the same dark path as her mother?
Join Jen as she begins the journey of a lifetime filled with snarky comments, foul language, and tomfoolery. It’s gonna be one hell of a ride!

Stage and Screen Icon Diana Rigg of Avengers, Bond, and Game of Thrones, Dies at 82
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Diana Rigg, best known for her iconic turn on The Avengers, and memorable roles on Game of Thrones and Theatre of Blood, died Sept. 10, at home with her family at the age of 82, according to Variety. “It is with tremendous sadness that we announce that Dame Diana Rigg died peacefully early this morning. She was at home with her family who have asked for privacy at this difficult time,” her agent Simon Beresford said in a statement. “Dame Diana was an icon of theatre, film, and television. She was the recipient of BAFTA, Emmy, Tony and Evening Standard Awards for her work on stage and screen. Dame Diana was a much loved and admired member of her profession, a force of nature who loved her work and her fellow actors. She will be greatly missed.”
Rigg was diagnosed with cancer in March, according to her daughter Rachael Stirling, who said the actress “spent her last months joyfully reflecting on her extraordinary life, full of love, laughter and a deep pride in her profession. I will miss her beyond words.”
Diana Rigg is a quintessential part of English espionage entertainment. She came into people’s homes on a weekly basis as the Emma Peel, a spy as skilled in seduction as she was in hand to hand combat, on The Avengers. Rigg was the third of four women sidekicks to Patrick Macnee’s John Steed on the ITV series, and the first with a bristling sense of humor. The duo set the tone and the style for swinging 60s British Intelligence: The bowler hatted Steed with his lethal umbrella and Peel in the mod fashions, leather jumpsuits or op-art psychedelic patterns. She  drove a Lotus Elan convertible.
As Tracy di Vicenzo, Rigg was the only true Bond girl, having actually married James Bond, played by George Lazenby, in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969). Tracy Bond’s life with Agent 007 did not have a happy ending. Modern audiences recognize Rigg as Olenna Tyrell on HBO’s Game of Thrones. Horror fans will remember her turn as Vincent Price’s daughter in the 1973 classic thriller Theatre of Blood. Price played an underappreciated Shakespearean actor. The classical theatre trained Rigg, who did a stint with the Royal Shakespeare Company, played almost everyone else.
Enid Diana Elizabeth Rigg was born on July 20, 1938, near Doncaster. She grew up for a short while in India and spoke Hindi as a second language. She returned to the UK to attend a Yorkshire boarding school run by the Moravian church. Rigg enrolled in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1955. One of her classmates was Glenda Jackson. She made her professional debut in a production of Bertolt Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle as part of the 1957 York Festival. Rigg was first noticed for her role in the Ronald Millar play Abelard and Heloïse. She was nominated for a Tony Award.
Rigg screen-tested for The Avengers in 1965 after Honor Blackman, who had been playing Emma Peel, was cast as Pussy Galore in Goldfinger. Rigg starred in 51 episodes. She also had major roles in the films A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1968), The Assassination Bureau (1969), and Julius Caesar (1970), which starred Charlton Heston.  Rigg was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her role in the 1971 classic satire The Hospital, which was directed by Arthur Hiller, written by Paddy Chayefsky and co-starred George C. Scott.
On television, Rigg starred in the eponymous NBC sitcom Diana from 1973-74. She starred as Clytemnestra in BBC’s 1979 miniseries adaptation of Sophocles’ Oresteia. In 1981, she starred in an adaptation of Hedda Gabler for English television. from 1989-2004, she was host of PBS’ Masterpiece Mystery.
Rigg was a member of the National Theatre Company at the Old Vic from 1972 through 75. Rigg played leading roles in the premieres of two Tom Stoppard plays: Jumpers in 1972 and Night and Day in 1978. She played Lady Macbeth in 1972, and was Eliza Doolittle in a 1974 revival of Pygmalion. In 2011 she returned to George Bernard Shaw’s timeless classic in the role of Mrs. Higgins. Her last stage appearance was as Mrs. Higgins in the 2018 revival of My Fair Lady. In 1994, Rigg won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for Medea. Her other stage work included roles in Bertolt Brecht’s Mother Courage, Albert Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Tennessee Williams’ Suddenly, Last Summer, and a revival of Noel Coward’s Hay Fever.
In 1977, Rigg starred in A Little Night Music with Elizabeth Taylor. She also appeared in The Great Muppet Caper in 1981. She was the Evil Queen in the 1987 film Snow White. She also played in Bruce Beresford’s A Good Man in Africa, which starred Sean Connery in 1994, as well as Parting Shots (1998), the 2006 romantic drama The Painted Veil and Andy Serkis’ romance Breathe (2017).
Rigg took the part played by Marlene Dietrich in 1982 TV movie remake of the 1957 Billy Wilder film Witness for the Prosecution for Hallmark Hall of Fame. She starred with David MacCallum in the BBC/PBS miniseries Mother Love (1989). She starred in the CBS telepic Mrs. ‘Arris Goes to Paris (1992) with Angela Lansbury. Rigg won an Emmy for Rebecca in 1997. Rigg was a memorable guest star on the BBC/HBO’s Extras in 2006. She also put in an appearance on Dr. Who in 2013. She recently appeared in ITV’s Victoria and Channel 5’s All Creatures Great And Small.
Rigg’s last film appearance will be in Edgar Wright’s upcoming Last Night In Soho, scheduled to hit theaters on April 23, 2021.

Rigg was married twice. She was married to Israeli painter Menachem Gueffen from 1973 to 1976. Her second husband was theater producer Archibald Stirling, who she was married to from 1982 to 1990. Rigg is survived by their daughter, two-time Olivier Award nominated actress Rachael Stirling.

The Free Cheese Game of the Year 2019 | Day 5
The conclusion to our Game of the Year 2019 Awards arrives with the induction of another game into The Free Cheese Hall of Fame and of course, our Game of the Year.
Listen in to hear our final day of deliberations and read below to see the winners. Thank you for spending your time with us this year. Enjoy your video games!
Hall of Fame - Super Metroid
We started inducting games into The Free Cheese Hall of Fame a few years back now and our process yields a new entry: Super Metroid.
We start with a list of 30 games (shown in the table below), each of us nominating 10 that we believe should be in The Free Cheese Hall of Fame. We write them down on sticky notes and place them on the table in front of us. We then remove one each and continue around the table until only one game remains.
For our full list of games in The Free Cheese Hall of Fame, check out the Hall of Fame page.
Metroid Pokémon Crystal Metal Gear Solid Tetris (GB) NFL Blitz Earthbound Parasite Eve The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Resident Evil 4 Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 Resident Evil 2 (PSX) Super Metroid Pinball (NES) Halo: Reach Tetris (GB) Balloon Fight Super Metroid Shenmue II Metroid Prime The Sims Final Fantasy VII Castlevania RollerCoaster Tycoon GoldenEye 007 Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Chex Quest Dota 2 The Legend of Zelda Wii Sports Halo 3
Game of the Year 2019
Resident Evil 2
Tumblr media
The Free Cheese Game of the Year 2019 is Resident Evil 2. Capcom delivered an experience that captivated us and brought the franchise to new heights. With the difficult task of remaking a highly revered game, Capcom created something that stays true to its origins and remains wholly modern. The game propels our expectations for the franchise and for future remakes in different franchises. What we expect will be set against Resident Evil 2 as the barometer.
We loved most the sense of restriction that we felt with every shot we took and every bite we suffered. There were few moments of safety and even those were a short-term illusion. The constant fear of something dropping from the ceiling or slamming through a wall echoed through each playthrough.
What makes Resident Evil 2 more special is how much is waiting for you even after you finish it. A single playthrough shows you the story in full. A second is like hearing your favorite album recorded by another one of your favorite bands. It’s still got the same core to it but with a different sound that defines it yet again. Somehow, seeing both all the way through adds something to this game that outweighs either story individually.
2. Fire Emblem: Three Houses
3. Control
4. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
5. Devil May Cry 5

Let the year ahead be the one where all your dreams come true and your wishes be granted. 🖤 @hwlandhqgossip

001. What is your proudest accomplishment of this year?
There’s so many that’s happened throughout the year, especially including my album, but most of all, I think it’s best to face the hardest parts of your year so you can take a step back and admire how you overcame them, and I feel as though I found the ability to handle it all, which makes me rather proud of myself given the circumstances. There’s still a scary amount of bad in the world, but I’d like to think I was able to bring some good to a lot of people with my own strength, and hopefully they all found their own.
002. What is the biggest life lesson you learned this year?
It’s something I’ve always known, but I feel as though this year truly made me appreciate the process of living. That lesson of it being that each diamond is created under extreme pressure, and so when I find myself stressed and entirely overwhelmed through a situation, I know that I can trust the process that something good is going to come out of that. If a diamond can do it, so can I.
003. What is one relationship (can be friendship) that has helped you survive this year?
I don’t know what I would do without, Bella. She’s such a blessing that I’ve been spending so much time with, and I’m going to miss her so bad when I’m across the pond, but even if I have to buy the tickets myself, I know I’ll need to get her ass over there with me for our rightful visitations. Bella’s the type of person that could pull me out of a bad mood within seconds, and all I can hope for is to be the same for her. She’s made 2018 exciting at every turn, and there’s so much in store for our friendship, I’m calling it now. @b-hxdid
004. Who or what do you need to let go of in order to make next year even better than this year?
My anxiety. If I could let that go, I know 2019 could be the best year of my life. I’ve had it consume me plenty this year, stayed days to myself and not talk to anybody, a fear eating away inside. And you know what? I regret feeling it every time. I know there’s no reason to feel it. I know it’s a mentality that I’m harboring, one that I know I can expel from my life if I put my mind to it. It creates an insecurity that I won’t allow to hold me back any longer.
005. What did you do this year that you’ve never done before?
I got myself a pig! Not as inspirational as I should probably mention, but I did get one, and my god, it’s definitely a job to handle, but she’s such a light to my life. Shout out to my baby, Piggy Smalls.
006. What are three resolutions or goals you want to make happen next year?
To just stay happy, to spread that happiness to others, and to keep my head up, brush off my shoulders, and let everything flow like water off a duck’s back. Here’s to happiness and to nobody keeping me away from that.
007. Where did most of your money go this year?
I might have gotten carried away with the Christmas presents this year, I’m not gonna lie, but I couldn’t stop myself. They all deserved what they got, and hopefully next year I’ll get to bond with even more people so they all get a piece of my heart as well. And wallet, but I think heart sounds sweeter.
008. What song will always remind you of this year?
Is it weird to shout out my own song? Because Thank You, Next isn’t just about the relationships. I didn’t write it just so I can call out what I’ve been through with the guys I’ve mentioned, or make a diss, and plenty of people already know that. It’s a constant reminder to myself that all I need is myself to get through this crazy place we call earth. It reminds me that I can move on from anything, that I don’t have to hold anything in or bottle it up, that I can look forward and say next to a new situation. A better situation. Nothing can hold me back now from being the person I want to be, and do what I want to do, and that song was written to express that, so I find it to be the perfect fit for 2018.
009. How will you be spending the last day of this year?
Packing up! Aside from celebrating, of course, I’ve still got a big move to make on my hands, and 2019 is the year of the UK for me, and I’ve never been more ready.
010. Who is the best new person you’ve met this year?
Lily James has forever changed my life for the best because she is the best. No, she’s the greatest. Words don’t even begin to describe what Lily means to me, and it’s an absolute honor to have her in my life, to get to spend more time with her. Have you ever met someone that could make you smile just from seeing them smile? Or someone that their happiness radiates so hard onto your life that you can’t feel anything but happy when you’re around them? That’s how Lily makes me feel, and she’s someone that I’m most ready to spend the next year with and learn more about. @lllyjames

001. What relationship (can be friendship) has been the most fun to write for your muse/s this year?
I’ve gotten so into Ariana and Grant’s friendship to the point that I made a manip for them a month before I could even post it, like what even.. And it’s all based off the love of sushi together and plotting out the families they’ll each have. I know the end of this year has been stressful in real life that I haven’t gotten to devote as much time as I want, but best believe that I want more of them in 2019. <3 @theflashgrant Also, I love you, Sam. I hope you’re not alarmed by the time this is posted, I have tomorrow off. x
002. In what ways do you connect to your muse/s?
I like to think that I connect to how happy Ariana feels most of the time.. Well, she’s constantly been happy, and ever since I’ve come here, I feel like I’ve had a brighter look on the year compared to the rest, and her time she’s had here has affected my own time and made it even better.
003. What’s your favorite category to write for your muse/s? (angst, fluff, smut, etc.)
Well, I haven’t written smut on Ariana yet, but I’m sure that’ll be a wonderful time when we get down to it with her and whoever the lucky boy/girl she’s with is, but so far, these fluffy, cute ass friendships she’s making is hands down the best for me.
004. If you could give your muse/s one gift, what would you give them?
I’d have to give my muse more time, honestly. They deserve it. I shouldn’t let work consume my life, when my passion is RP in the first place. RP is my escape, and I’m here along with many talented people that I want to share my muse with, so just devoting more to them is the most I could do to benefit them, honestly.
005. What was your favorite event/moment/memory in HollywoodlandHQ this year?
Appreciation week! I was honestly only here for like.. two to three weeks, I think? And I like to think I went in on trying to express how appreciative I was to be here, and I still am. I always will be! You guys are the best, and it’s an honor to spend time with you. It’s an honor to be in a group ran by such talented and trusted admins and beautiful players across the world. I hope you all know just how much I love you.
006. What muse/s have you enjoyed most seeing on this dash this year?
I really love seeing everybody on the dash, but Charlie’s and Becca’s ( @loutommo-x , @teylcrswift ) always bring a smile to my face just from them posting a queue even, I love them both so much, I love their ship so much, and I hope to keep building bonds with them IC and OOC!
007. What is your favorite thing your muse/s have done this year in the group? (can be in the real world or what you made up)
In real life, I’d say that Ariana’s album and music videos had to be so exciting for her, and I hope it was as thrilling for her as it was for me, but with my Ari in this beautiful world of HWland, I’d say her trip to London was exciting. I mean, she does want to move there now so it has to count for something.
008. What would you like to see in HollywoodlandHQ in 2019?
I think some tasks could be a lot of fun! Like this alone has brought a lot of focus on my character and I feel like when people bond with their muse enough to answer questions like these, they’re more likely to keep wanting to come back, and I love that! I love feeling more connected to Ariana, it fuels my need to develop her, and even simple tasks like a mixtape or moodboard could open up a path in my opinion.
009. What is a plot you would love to do with your muse/s?
I’d love to add some more angst into Ariana’s story line.. I’ve got a plot page, ( don’t look at it, that shit is totally empty ), but I’d love to fill it up with all kinds of stories to play along with, and something that’s both rip and mend my heart could be really fun! You know.. Stuff that people like @ohlizzo and @hqcentineo do that both kill me and make me feel alive. :) That smile is exactly how you think it is.
010. Tag somebody in the RP and say something nice about them. It’s the season of giving.
@hcurly you already know I couldn’t go without saying something about you. I love you to the moon and back, and that trip ten times over. You make every day feel like a blessing for me, and I consider myself the luckiest person to not only know of you, but to personally get to know you and spend time writing with your Harry. The best one, hands down, that I’ve ever come across, and I know I can’t live without you now. I just can’t put it into proper words what you and Harry mean to me now, and I know nothing could ever change that. <3
And how could I do a post like this and not mentioned @itstbellisario. You are so precious as a player and your characters are the same way, I adore you and I love how sweet you’ve been from the very get. I’m shit at my replies, but I hope you know I love every one of them that I have with you, and I’ll forever appreciate you being here in this RP with me. Troian and Haley forever belong in my Hall of Fame.
To finish this off, though, I want to dedicate the best time of my life this year to the wonderful admins that run this place, that bust their ass off to make it the best RP I’ve ever been in. It’s been exactly 2 months of me being here, only 1/6th of the entire year, but I couldn’t have had a better ending note for it if it weren’t for you all! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I could cry tears of gratitude for you, for this RP. Some people may think it’s just some website, but it saves lives and you’re all to thank for that. I love you. <3
