Happy Birthday, Kanghan!
I may be easy, but I'm not cheap, so I always like seeing how wealth is displayed in these BLs.
Max got Kanghan a limited film camera imported from the United States.
Tumblr media
but . . . Kanghan isn't into photography.
Tumblr media
Nawa got him a Liverpool jersey, No. 8, from the 2005 UEFA Champions League, but I'm going out on a limb and assuming Liverpool is not Kanghan's favorite team (Messi is Inter Miami now, so forget those European team, and come on over to the United States side of life, sir).
Tumblr media
Pimfah painted him a portrait
Tumblr media
Which he liked the most.
Tumblr media
I think Kanghan likes Pimfah, so obviously he would like her gift, but . . . *put a pin in it*
Tumblr media
Kanghan's dad got him the motorcycle, but he picked the model for Kanghan instead of letting Kanghan decide.
Tumblr media
Sailom sang Kanghan "Happy Birthday" and grabbed a cake from Kanghan's fridge for him.
Tumblr media
Kanghan isn't even aware of what is in his own fridge, so he was surprised that Sailom had asked the staff for it, but he was genuinely thankful for it.
Tumblr media
Because it isn't just about liking the person (IF Kanghan does, in fact, like Pimfah), but about the effort. *take that pin out from earlier*
Tumblr media
When Kanghan's friends ask what Sailom got him
Tumblr media
Sailom answers that he wasn't aware it was Kanghan's birthday (even though they spent the entire day together *put another pin in it*)
Tumblr media
And this could be a subtitle choice, but it's interesting that Sailom says he didn't "prepare" anything rather than he didn't "buy" anything.
Tumblr media
We know Sailom doesn't have McDonald's money, but Pimfah didn't purchase anything and Kanghan liked her gift the most because it took effort.
Tumblr media
AND IT WAS SURPRISING!
Tumblr media
But why not skip tutoring, so he could celebrate his birthday with his friends? Why spend all day with Sailom, yet not tell him that it was his birthday? *take the second pin out*
Tumblr media
Because he wanted to spend his birthday with Sailom without making it about him. And this possibly started the night before.
Tumblr media
The boys didn't leave the school until after 10 pm; then, Kanghan detoured to the restaurant "just cause", so it had to be late when they left there.
Tumblr media
A few people have written that Kanghan isn't lonely. He has a grandmother who loves him. He has friends who want to hang out with him. So why did he want to spend the night going into his birthday with Sailom?
Tumblr media
Then proceed to spend all night with him the next day?
Tumblr media
Because he enjoys spending time with Sailom, sure.
Tumblr media
But it's because the time he spends with Sailom is full of surprises.
Tumblr media
Every interaction he has with Sailom surprises him. Kanghan, who is bored with his life and money, finds Sailom unpredictable, for good reason.
Tumblr media
Sailom brings up a lot of feelings™ in Kanghan because Kanghan never knows what to expect, so Kanghan is acting out in less predictable ways as well.
Tumblr media
Because he doesn't know how to describe what is happening, but he knows the feelings™ Sailom evokes in him are real.
Tumblr media
And that's what Kanghan is really craving - something real.
He has his kingdom of cardboard and trash.
Tumblr media
He could buy anything he wants, so he wants nothing.
Tumblr media
His two best friends get him gifts that he doesn't even care about. His father makes decisions for him, so he doesn't have to think. But Sailom gives him something different, something new, something real, and something worth the effort - Sailom gives Kanghan himself.
Tumblr media
Sailom has nothing else to give Kanghan but himself. The cake comes from Kanghan's own fridge. The guitar for the song is borrowed. But Sailom gives Kanghan his attention, which is all Kanghan really wants.
So Happy Birthday, Kanghan!
Tumblr media
I hope you enjoy your present!

inspired by the manchester anon haha but do you have any tips and suggestions for visiting leeds? 🩷
I've lived here for 2 years now (!!!) but somehow I still don't really know my way around and just go to the same 5 places and use google maps to get anywhere else. it's sad. but here's some shit I love:
Grindhouse - cheap drinks, loads and loads of seats, never too full, music a reasonable volume, and they project 80s movies on the back wall. we once sat in here for 2 hours cos Stand By Me was on. one time we watched the bar staff earnestly tell a group of women on a hen do that the bar was closed and they weren't serving any more drinks, at 7:45pm. 10/10.
Rudy's - only 9 cities* in this fair nation have a Rudy's, so I'm going to keep reccing it for everyone else. perfect Neapolitan pizza. *Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Birmingham, Nottingham, Durham, London, York, Liverpool - if you live in one of these places and haven't been to Rudy's yet, sort it out.
Neon Cactus - go here on a Wednesday and order wings, and you'll get half price margs. lots of great Mexican scran. don't take anyone too picky or over 50, because the price for the great food and vibes is that at least one thing you order will be incorrect. but roll with it. half price margs, man.
Empire Cafe - book in advance if you want to sample the delights of Empire Cafe, cos there's like 6 tables max. everything is seasonal, changes on the daily, and is insanely delicious. if you want to experience heaven, order the steak and chips with salsa verde. there is NOTHING like it.
Stuzzi - another seasonal, small plate sort of place, but Italian. amazing food and a gorgeous restaurant. go with a big group and order one of everything.
Eat Your Greens - ANOTHER seasonal restaurant! this one is farm-to-fork and organic. I can’t speak to the quality as I haven’t actually been, but I am a frequenter of their GREENGROCER, which is MEGA. last time I think I left with natty wine, pâté, some insane tinned fish, a jar of harissa and a bag of sunset potatoes. if you like food, go here.
SARTO - fresh, handmade pasta and picky bits. another great place to go with a group and order all the starters. I had a celeriac pasta there last year that I think about on a fairly regular basis; I picked it cos it was the weirdest sounding thing on the menu and it was fucking mouthwatering. good quality and good people! and it's next door to The Wardrobe, so perfect for a pre-gig tea.
Santiago Bar - like Grindhouse (alternative, casual) but the music is louder and you'll find yourself doing tequila shots at 1am and screaming along to, like, Don Broco. it's the best.
Blue Collar Boys - as a rule I hate 'vintage' clothes shops (overpriced, ugly, everything is XXS), but this place seems to specialise solely in American t-shirts and sweatshirts from the 90s in exactly my size, and everything is £10. this is amazing and a huge bargain if you find something like vintage Wranglers and a Playboy bomber jacket (£20, my wife) but not so amazing or a bargain if you find 3 t-shirts with holes in (£30, me). we've never been without finding shit we love. they only open on random weekends, and they always seem to have more stuff than they could possibly ever sell. it's a freaky vintage alternate universe.
The Corn Exchange - a big gorgeous ol' building full of little businesses. vintage, handmade, tattoos, coffee, jewellery, independent brands, yarn, shoes, a barbers, a bookshop, they've got it all. very easy to spend £100 and 6 hours. every so often they have a market on the bottom floor. perfect tiny representation of Leeds: quirky, independent, delicious, cool.
Silver's Deli - this is a 9-minute train ride away in Bramley (my ends!) but has become THEE buzzy foodie spot recently. go on a sunny saturday morning (cos you will probably have to sit outside) and order the everything sandwich. thank me later. if they have scotch eggs or sausage rolls on, I beseech you, order both. and if you want the sunday special prepare to get there at 11 and fight.
Against the Grain - if you've come to Bramley for Silver's, you may as well trundle 10 minutes up the road and visit the best bar in Leeds. cosy, casual, full of locals, hidden in Swinnow Mills. it's a sit-around-and-chat-to-people sort of place, with bonus charcuterie boards AND a pizza van on weekends. we are here A LOT, because Gray's Salon and Rose and Thorn Tattoo are both in the Mill, and we give them all our money. oh! and dog friendly. sooo many dogs.
Project House/Galleria - if you've gotten the train out to Bramley for Silver's and ATG, jump on the 72 back to town and get off at Project House to eat MORE food. Galleria is a great place to get breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and Project House has EVERYTHING (depending on the day). yoga! gigs! vintage fairs! a bi-annual tattoo convention meets makers market with food vendors called Hand of Glory! check what's on and head on down to support local!
Kirkstall Bridge Inn - another one local(ish) to me, but worth travelling out of town for; a PROPER pub (i.e. no tv, no sports, no shite) that does roasts upstairs and lets dogs in downstairs. outdoor seating right by the canal, and every so often they put something on and the car park turns into a tiny festival. Kirkstallpalooza is a highlight. great place to finish a nice canal walk (who am I?!).
tl;dr sorry that this is obnoxiously long, I love Leeds

Flowers in Liverpool
In February, NWTC launched a new floral-themed restaurant concept called The Florist. Located in what was the old Goldbrick House, this venue features a grand central staircase and plenty of flower decoration.
Madeleine Pires has completed eight out of the nine gable end murals for the Flower Streets project in Kirkdale. These beautiful artworks adorn the houses on Crocus Street, Pansy Street, Daisy Street, Woodbine Street and Harebell Street.
Proteas
Proteas, also known as sugar bush flowers or rose spoon Flowers in Liverpool, are dense and dramatic collections of rose-pink to multi-coloured florets which look a bit like artichokes. They are the national flower of South Africa and are even featured on their passports and 5 Rand coin!
The species Protea cynaroides (common protea) is often used as an indoor house plant in the UK. It is a member of the family Proteaceae, of which there are 80 genera with over 1,600 species. Proteaceae are a group of plants with cluster roots and solitary ovules, and they are divided into four tribes.
Exotic-looking proteas are native to sunny South Africa and belong to one of the earliest groups of flowering plants. They have long been a popular symbol of the country and, along with the springbok, have been a feature on their flag. The king protea is the national flower and gives its name to the country’s cricket team, who are nicknamed the Proteas.
Bird of Paradise
The genus Strelitzia (sometimes called bird of paradise) is one of the most spectacular tropical plants. It can be grown indoors or out as a houseplant throughout the year. Its beautiful, eye-catching flowers are an added bonus, especially when the plant is mature and producing a lot of flower spikes – up to 36 per season in the right conditions.
Bird of Paradise plants grow well as garden plants in USDA hardiness zones 10 to 12, where they can be sheltered from frost. They also thrive as container plants in greenhouses and conservatories, where they can be brought in for winter.
The large paddle shaped leaves of the plant develop natural splits along the edges as they grow, which is normal and helps them withstand wind. Repotting a bird of paradise every three to four years is also a good idea, although it is best not to give them a much larger pot than they previously had as this can lead to wilting and reduced flowering.
Anthuriums
A popular houseplant, anthuriums produce stunning tropical blooms above glossy dark green leaves. Their flower-like'spathes' are a vivid mix of red, pink and white with a central spike known as the spadix (also known as the nose or tail).
The anthurium is a tropical plant so will require a warm, humid environment. They will adapt well to average home temperatures but are sensitive to temperature fluctuation and prefer to be kept in a warm room where they can 'breathe'. Place them close to a window but be careful not to burn the foliage.
Anthuriums should be repotted every 3 years or so when the roots begin to come out of the bottom of the pot. A good time to do this is in the spring. Feed the anthurium regularly with a high-potassium organic liquid plant feed. It is also a good idea to dip the ends of the stem and aerial root cuttings in hormone rooting powder as this will help increase their proportion that successfully root.
Spring Flowers
In spring, a tapestry of floral hues unfurl across Preserved flowers gardens and parks. Pastel pink roses, white hyacinths, and burgundy ranunculus adorn bouquets, while lilac blossoms bud on trees and foxglove bloom along walkways. Meanwhile, Common hawthorn buds in robust tones adorn garden beds and community spaces, embodying the city’s resilience.
Daffodils abound in woodland areas throughout spring. They are thought to symbolize new beginnings and rebirth. Daffodils are available in a variety of shades including a soft yellow, buttercream, and bright gold.
Lilies are a classic spring flower favourite. Their elegant petals and symbolic meanings make them an enduring choice for celebratory occasions. They’re also a great addition to wedding bouquets and can be purchased in a range of colours from apricot, peach, and lemon to white and fuchsia. These flowers are usually in season from February-September. They last longer if you trim the stems diagonally and change the water every few days. You can also add flower food to your lilies for an added boost of longevity.

Tumblr media
Search engine optimization (SEO) is crucial for businesses in Liverpool looking to increase their online visibility and attract more customers. Implementing an effective SEO strategy can help your website rank higher in Google so that users can find your business when searching for relevant keywords. This article provides key insights into optimizing your SEO approach specifically for the Liverpool market. Assessing the Liverpool SEO Landscape Liverpool is a major city in the North West of England with a metropolitan population of over 2 million people. This gives businesses in Liverpool access to a substantial local audience along with national and international opportunities. To succeed with SEO in Liverpool, the first step is conducting keyword research to identify high-volume, low-competition terms that align with your products or services. Some initial keywords to target include: - liverpool restaurants - things to do in liverpool - liverpool attractions - liverpool hotels - liverpool shopping You'll also want to analyze your competitors' SEO strategies. Conduct a search for your primary keywords and take note of which websites rank on the first page of Google. Visit their pages to see which keywords they are optimizing for and how they have structured their content. Competitive analysis enables you to identify SEO best practices to implement yourself. Crafting an SEO-Optimized Website Your website needs to be designed with SEO principles in mind to maximize search visibility. Here are key elements to optimize: ➖ Website Speed Site speed is a ranking factor for Google. Ensure your website loads quickly by compressing images, minimizing HTTP requests, and using a caching plugin. Strive for a load time under 3 seconds. ➖ Mobile Responsiveness Over 60% of searches occur on mobile devices. Your website should provide a seamless experience for mobile visitors by using a responsive design. Alternatively, you can create a dedicated mobile site. ➖ URL Structure URLs with keywords gain a slight ranking boost. Format your URLs using dashes instead of underscores, such as: https://www.yourwebsite.com/liverpool-seo ➖ Internal Linking Linking between the pages on your website helps search engines crawl and index your content. Use target keywords in anchor text and link to authority pages frequently. ➖ Schema Markup Include schema markup on your pages to generate rich snippets in search results. These formatted snippets improve click-through rates. Use markup for your business info, reviews, events, etc. ➖ Site Map and Robots.txt A sitemap helps search bots discover new and updated content on your site. Create an XML sitemap and submit it to Google Search Console. Configure your robots.txt file to ensure important pages can be crawled. Crafting SEO-Optimized Content Optimized content should provide value for readers while incorporating relevant keywords naturally. Follow these best practices: ➖ In-Depth Articles Aim for long-form content over 2000 words focusing on specific keywords. Include related images and embed videos to increase engagement. ➖ FAQ and List-Based Content FAQs and lists like "10 Best Restaurants in Liverpool" perform well for local SEO. Answer user questions extensively while optimizing for informational keywords. ➖ Update Existing Content Refresh your old blog posts and pages by adding new details, images, examples and data. Updated content gets re-crawled, bringing new ranking opportunities. ➖ Keyword Optimization Research target keywords and include them in headings, image ALT text, URLs, meta descriptions and scattered throughout the content. Avoid over-optimization. ➖ Local Keywords Incorporate "Liverpool" and surrounding areas into content where relevant to improve local ranking potential. ➖ Multimedia Insert relevant photos, graphics, videos and even podcasts or slideshares into posts to break up blocks of text and engage visitors. ➖ Actionable Content Write compelling calls-to-action to guide readers to convert through your sales funnel after consuming your content. Building Quality Backlinks The quantity and quality of external links pointing to your website significantly influence rankings. Movies I watched this week (#185):
2 by French director Christian Vincent:
🍿 Haute Cuisine is a charming drama about a female chef who was appointed as the personal 'cuisinier' to the president of the Republic. Supposedly it is based on the real-live story of François Mitterrand's private cook.
Like many other 'Food Porn' movies, this is a mouth-watering, touristy story where lushly-photographed meals being prepared with love and emotions. I don't understand is why this film is never mentioned with other fancy and feel-good morsels (Like 'Babette's Feast', 'Tampopo', 'Big night', 'Chef', 'Eat drink man woman', 'Jiro dreams of sushi', and dozen others). Maybe because it's not egalitarian enough?
9/10 from me [But then I actually cooked for Mitterrand myself in 1982, when he came to Denmark for a state visit, and I worked as a cook at the restaurant of the Danish Parliament. Nothing as sumptuous though!].
🍿 "You were on morphine. That's why you thought I was beautiful..."
Courted is a light courtroom drama, starring my serious Danish crush Sidse Babett Knudsen in an lovely French role. It tells of a strict and dour judge, ruling over a murder trial, who falls for a woman juror, whom he had met years ago. It's surprisingly endearing, and I don't blame him for being enchanted with her.
🍿
My first 5 films from British poet Terence Davies:
🍿 Children, his sad debut film from 1976, a haunting auto-biographical retelling of (his own) wretched childhood. A lonely, unloved boy, severely bullied at his Catholic school, and suffering quietly at home with a silent mother and an abusive father. All the disclosures are offered piecewise and delicately, that he's gay, that his father is dying, that he never got over any of the abuses. Best discovery of the week!
🍿 "Pray, Father, give me your blessing.."
Madonna and Child (1980) is slow, contemplative and dark painting of a depressed middle age Catholic, deeply religious closeted gay man, who works in the city, takes care of his elderly mother, and cruised at night for sex. Lonely and conflicted, melancholic and unhappy, he goes to mass regularly, and confesses of all his sins, except that he's attempting to get his dick tattooed. The dark night of the soul, indeed. 9/10.
🍿 Death and Transfiguration is the 3rd part of his alter-ego Robert Tucker trilogy. Even though it was made in 1983, the young man is now on his death bed, old, speechless, alone and again in the care of the nuns. It's a devastating conclusion to a life of this unhappy, gentle boy who lived his whole life in pain and concealment, between the church and the flesh. It opens with Doris Day singing 'It all depends on you' as he buries his beloved mother, and it only grows sadder from there. 10/10.
🍿 "...And then the journey home, tired. Cocoa and toast... And happiness unlimited..."
Of Time and the City felt like watching a movie of Lou Reed's 'Perfect Day', like a James Joyce moving poem but for Liverpool, not Dublin. This is Terence Davies only documentary, about the city of his birth during the 20th century. It opened with a moving recitation of 'The land of lost content', and it combined a magnificent collection of archival clips with glorious choices of musical scores. Together they created a very personal and highly emotional masterpiece, one of the best nostalgic documentaries I ever saw. For people who only knew of Liverpool as the home of The Beatles, it was a eye-opener: Their impact and music were featured for a brief moment only. 10/10!
🍿 Passing Time was the last film he completed before his death in 2023. A short poem he wrote and read, a single image of a rural countryside, and a piece of music composed for the occasion.
🍿
The Wild Goose Lake (2019), my first intense neo-noir thriller by Chinese auteur Diao Yinan. Caught in a turf war between gangs of motorcycle thieves, a gangster is running for his life, and has to use an abused "bathing beauty", a hooker who looks similar to Faye Wong from Chungking Express. It's a fresh look at the genre, full of rain-soaked dingy alleys, gritty and un-glamorized parts of Wuhan, slow-burning suspense and nocturnal aesthetics. 8/10.
How I miss wondering aimlessly in those night markets and street dances where hundreds of people are gathered as their Saturday entertainment!
🍿
Swept Away X 2:
🍿 Lina Wertmüller's controversial Swept away, (which obviously was a major inspiration to Ruben Östlund's 'Triangle of Sadness'.)
A political & sexual fantasy of a man and a woman stranded on a Mediterranean desert island. She's rich, spoiled and entitled, he's a simple Sicilian communist. She treats him contemptuously when he's just a deckhand on her yacht, and he turns the tables and abuses her in any way he can, once they find themselves alone in the wilderness. It started raw and didactic, with motifs of class warfare between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat, and then it turned into a whirlwind of sexual violence and misogyny. But it ended tenderly romantic, as they eventually come to love each other in a deep sadomasochistic way. 8/10. [*Female Director*]
🍿 Generally I don't watch re-makes, but the 2002 Madonna/Guy Ritchie remake got 5% score on Rotten Tomatoes, so that was intriguing. It is considered to be 'one of the worst films ever made', and maybe it wasn't exactly that, but like most all remakes, I still couldn't see the point in making it. They flattened the power dynamics, nullified the politics of the original, and drained the sexual heat, so it remained as boring as a music video. The only interesting angle was using Giancarlo Giannini's actual son to play the wild fisherman. But as much as he looked like his father, he wasn't such a captivating actor. 2/10.
🍿
My 5th film by Nicole Holofcener, Friends with Money. Four long-time friends, Catherine Keener (of course), Jennifer Aniston, Joan Cusack and Frances McDormand deal with Santa Monica's lifestyle issues. All are well-to-do except of Jennifer Aniston, who makes poor life choices, and so she has to work as a cleaning lady. But all have marital and upper-middle-class problems. And none of the men in this story are appealing. I watched it because of this screenshot. A pleasant 7/10. [*Female Director*]
🍿
Pee Wee Herman X 2:
🍿 Paul Reubens, The Man Behind the Bowtie is a new mini documentary about Pee Wee Herman (but not the expected Disney job). A thin, adoring 31-min. bio, which is better than no bio.
🍿 "Pete. Take a look at these breasts."
School, Girls and You! is a ridiculous satire of 1950's Public Service Announcements about puritanical sex education. Pre-Pee Wee Paul Reubens plays Bad Boy Pete. It ends with a cartoon penis singing about jerking of.
🍿
The Vulture article with a photo of this beautiful woman, caused me to watch the original Twister for the first time in 30 years. Yes, it had excitable young Philip Seymour Hoffman and Tár director Todd Field, and the Original 'Got Milk' guy [Still the best Michael Bay's film] as storm-chasers. It also re-played Morricone's beautiful 'Love Affair' theme at a crucial moment. But boy! I simply can't stand 'Hollywood blockbusters', spectacularly loud, dumb and over-zealously fast. "Mass" entertainment with lots of action, fake scientific explanations, and dialogue lines like "Watch out! It’s coming straight at us! C’mon! Lets go!" Etc. 2/10. ♻️.
🍿
Another batch of shorts:
🍿 The phone call won the Oscars in 2013. It retold the story of Sydney Pollack's 'The Slender Thread'. A suicide hot line worker is recieving a phone call from a man who had taken a bunch of pills and she tries to talk him into disclosing his address so that he can be saved. Sally Hawkins plays the Sidney Poitier's role, and Jim Broadbent's voice plays the despondent Anne Bancroft. It was perfectly emotional and well done (until the very disappointing final scene!) 7/10.
🍿 The silent child is another British Oscar winner (from 2017). It tells a quietly tragic little story about a 4-year old deaf girl whose well-to-do and busy parents ignore her special needs. (Screenshot Above). Heartbreaking.
🍿 "...Have you not seen 'The city of God', for Christ's sake?!..."
The crush is a cute Irish short, nominated in 2009, about a 8-year-old boy who's infatuated with his teacher, and challenges her fiance to a duel.
🍿 Pentecost, another Irish nomination about a boy, from 2012. He is an alter boy and he's obsessed with football.
🍿 First time that I heard of Gale Henry, a female silent film slapstick comedian of the Chaplin-Keaton mold. She starred in over 230 gag-filled films, but directed only one: The detectress. This "Big trouble in Chinatown" from 1919 involved a search for a secret formula for eyeglasses that will "allow chop suey eaters to see what they're eating". All the racist Chinese stereotypes you can imagine: Opium dens, cat dishes, derogatory names and characters, long braids. Not great. [*Female Director*]
🍿 Olla is a young Eastern European mail-order "bride" who moves to live with a middle age French dude in his boring suburban house, after meeting online. Debut work by a Greek-French woman, it's unexpectedly perplexing. Contains some unusual sexual scenes. 5/10. [*Female Director*]
🍿 Noah, an interesting disjointed short, made by some Canadian students as a class project in 2013. An early entry in the growing 'Screenlife' genre, where the events of the story unfold entirely on screens. Teenagers with short attention span seek love in today's heartless desert. Too young for me to really enjoy, but very well made.
🍿 My first Star Trek node, William Shatner Lent Me His Hairpiece (1996). A cheap fan fiction "un-true" story about Kirk's Love Rug, "baldly" going where no one has gone before. This is exactly how I imagine the real franchise plays, only with much bigger budgets.
🍿
Simone de Beauvoir X 3:
🍿 Slow down (לאט יותר) was an important Israeli short, Based on a short story by Simone de Beauvoir and winner of the 1967 Venice Festival. An old woman argues with her husband, and after a day or two of anger, they reconciles. The whole movie is told in voice-over, as she meditates about their life together, about aging and love.
(It perfectly captured the sounds and looks of my own childhood.)
🍿 Simone de Beauvoir rarely gave interviews, but in 1975 she talked at length in Why I'm a feminist, a terrific conversation with a young journalist, who's as sharp and curious as she was. Highly recommended for people interested in genre issues.
🍿 I didn't realize that while living with J-P Sartre, de Beauvoir had both Claude Lanzmann and Nelson Algren as long-term partners. The man with the golden arm is based on a novel by Algren. My 7th by Otto Preminger, it was the most disappointing of the lot. It was bold of him to tackle the serious and un-cool topic of substance abuse in 1955, but his treatment was as serious as the amateur drummer Frank Sinatra in this role, which means not very good. Best part was Saul Bass's jazzy title sequence. 2/10.
🍿
(My complete movie list is here).

You may be aware of the cost involved in the UK visa application. However, other than that, there are also some other expenses that you need to consider before moving to the UK.
Due to factors like high housing costs and wage rates, the cost of living in the UK is relatively higher than other countries.
Keep reading this article to get a detailed analysis of the cost of living in the UK.
What Is the Cost of Transportation in the UK?
The majority of public transit in the UK is controlled by private businesses, with little to no influence from the government. As a result, it is quite expensive. You can get a regular monthly pass for £ 65 whereas a one-way ticket for local transport can cost you £ 2.5. Buses and trains are owned by private companies; hence they are slightly pricey. A monthly bus pass can cost you £ 160.
What Is the Cost of Accommodation in the UK?
Depending on where you live and the kind of housing you have, the average rent in the UK will vary. The average monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment is £758 (about $1000 USD) in the city and £614 (around $810 USD) outside of it.
If your energy bills are covered by the rent, the amount can be higher. Nevertheless, if you opt to share your apartment, the cost of living and utilities will be reduced by 50%.
What Is the Cost of Food and Groceries in the UK?
You can effectively control your expenses if you avoid eating at expensive restaurants. Instead, cook your own meals. You can get basic food items in the UK for a minimal cost.
For instance, one bread packet will cost you £ 0.97 whereas you can get rice and vegetables for £ 2. 11. Additionally, you can buy dairy products like milk and cheese for £ 0.92 and £ 5.57. Lastly, chicken and eggs will cost you somewhere around £ 7.37.
What Is the Cost of Entertainment and Recreation in the UK?
Living in the UK also involves entertainment and other recreational activities. It is beneficial to engage in some leisure activities to expand your social network, tour the nation, and discover the culture and people in greater depth.
Here's a list of different recreational activities and their costs -
Movies - £ 9 - £ 15
Amusement parks - £ 40
Fast food - £ 6
Sports - £ 10 - £ 20
Concerts - £ 40 - £ 50
Clubs and pubs - £ 10 - £ 40
Coffee shops - £ 3 -  £ 4
West End theatres - more than £ 25
Which Are Some of The Affordable Cities To Live In The UK?
Some of the affordable cities to live in the UK are Durham, Lancaster, Liverpool, Manchester, Sterling, Belfast, Norwich, Nottingham, Cardiff, Coventry, Lincoln, and Warwick.
What Are Some Of The Ways In Which One Can Minimize The Cost Of Living In The UK?
Living in the UK can burn a hole in your pocket. However, here are some ways in which you can save some money and live comfortably in the UK. Let us learn more about these ways in detail.
Live In an Affordable Place
The most important factor affecting the cost of living in the UK is the place where you live. Here you can find places with higher to lower costs of living. To save money, you can opt to stay in a relatively cheaper place. Some of the pocket-friendly places to live in the UK are Sterling, Lincoln, Liverpool, Warwick, Manchester, Lancaster, etc.
Cut Down the Transit Expenses
Transportation in the UK is expensive since it is governed by the private sector. However, you can reduce your travel expenses by using a travel card. A commuter oyster card is also available. However, the best strategy is to compare the prices online and choose the best alternative for you.
Eat Home-Cooked Meals
This can save a lot of your money as the restaurants in the UK are quite expensive and cost you somewhere around £ 40 - £ 50.
What Are the Other Miscellaneous Costs Involved?
The other miscellaneous costs include food, television, internet, mobile plans, taxes, and other services. In the UK, it is mandatory for you to possess a TV license to watch TV even on your computers or tablets. For colour television, you will be charged approximately £ 158 annually and £ 53 for black and white TVs.
You may also need to get a local phone number while you are staying in the UK. Using mobile phone services can cost you somewhere around £ 15 to £ 50 per month. The housekeeping charges are £ 160 - £ 200 per month, and bills including gas, electricity, and water will cost you £ 40 - £ 50 per month.
What Is the Cost of Visa Renewal in the UK?
Now that you are staying in the UK as an immigrant, you need to renew your visa after a given interval of time. You are required to renew your UK visa after every 2.5 years. The cost for the UK visa renewal is £ 2593.
If you wish to extend your UK work visa, you may be charged £ 719 per person for a 3 years extension and £ 1,423 per person for more than 3 years.
The cost of living in the UK lies in a slightly higher price range. However, with effective planning of your expenses, you can comfortably live in the UK as an immigrant. However, as an immigrant, apart from expenses during your stay, you also need to take care of uk visa renewal costs. These costs may vary depending upon whether you have a skilled worker visa or any type of visa.

🍔 Review № 549 ━ 📍 Almost Famous ★★★★☆ • Almost Famous is most definitely the most well-known burger chain in Manchester, and they first opened back in 2012. Since then, they’ve opened another restaurant in the city, and have also expanded to Liverpool and Leeds. We visited their large establishment in Manchester’s Great Northern district, where we were met by a charmingly pop punk restaurant with loads of kitschy interiors and loads of attitude. We ordered their Juicy Double for 10 GBP (12.5 USD), which was a double cheeseburger with dry-aged beef, extra cheese, pickles, pepper mayo, burger sauce and bacon ketchup. • It came served with an unnecessary wooden skewer that had been run straight through it, but apart from that it looked pretty great. We were a bit worried about the patties, as they looked pre-formed, but they weren’t compact at all. They had an excellent texture and were super juicy. The beef, which had been dry-aged for three weeks, was properly seasoned and had a deep beefy flavour. The large amounts of cheese had melted nicely and really enhanced the flavours. We liked their many sauces, which added both heat and saltiness. And their pickles were full of flavour and added some freshness, even though they didn’t quite manage to cut through all the other ingredients. We could have done with some other ingredient to balance everything out and add some texture variation. The bun was fresh and really squishy, but hadn’t been toasted on the inside. It was a good thing that we finished out burger pretty quickly, as the bun wouldn’t have lasted much longer anyway. • We are happy to see that Almost Famous don’t just live up the the hype – they exceed it as well. This was the best burger we ate in central Manchester during our trip, and they’re a great representative for the city. We hope that they keep expanding throughout England so that more people get to try them. ━ @almostfamous #burger #burgers #burgertime #burgerporn #burgerdudes #burgerlovers #food #foodie #hamburger #hamburgare #manchester #manchesterburgers #🍔 #🍟 #🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 (at Almost Famous GN) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeVR8qXjUd_/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Here is a list of amazing bottom Louis fics that were posted or completed during the month of January. Between the third month of the Bottom Louis Fic Fest and all the other fics that authors posted throughout the month, it’s clear that this was a great way to start off the year of bottom Louis fics!  Happy reading!
1) Leave It All Here In This Bed | Explicit | 1071 words
One of Louis’s many sleepless nights.
2) Games Are Only Fun If You Win | Explicit | 1554 words
Louis and Harry have a bet. If Louis wins that means he's off laundry duty. If he loses well.
Let's just say Harry won't be complaining.

Louis is horny one night on the tour bus so he and Harry fuck while trying not to get caught by the others.
4) Beg Me Silently | Explicit | 2140 words
“So, your boyfriend…is he planning a magic night for you at home?”
Louis snorts. “He’s not, actually. He’s pretty hardworking, you see, so he comes home late.”
“Such a shame.” Harry walks towards Louis, so close that they’re sharing the same space. “You’re so beautiful, Louis. If you were mine, I wouldn’t make you wait for me.”
5) Birthday Wishes | Explicit | 2895 words
Note: This is part 3 of this series.
The one where Harry takes Louis to dinner for his birthday, and gifts him with a vibrating butt plug he wears to the restaurant. Fluffy birthday sex follows.
6) New Year, New Beginnings | Explicit | 3577 words
Note: This is part 4 of this series.

Louis wears a shirt with a big ass H on it for his livestream, and Harry really, really likes it.
10) Close Your Eyes And Surrender To Me | Explicit | 4209 words
Note: This is the sequel to this fic.
Harry hummed and pressed his lips to Louis’ forehead. “I am very stressed, but I also know you’re stressed and tired too.” He glanced to Louis’ face seeing the confirming nod. “But, if you’re sure you’re up for it.” Harry smirked, waiting for Louis to say it was okay before he laid the boy down on the bed and hovered over him. “I really love this color on you. You look so pretty. Always do.” He spoke quietly, rubbing his hands over Louis’ soft thighs and moving them to his tummy. He then moved his hands up to Louis’ hair. It had been a while since Louis’ last haircut and it was now long enough that he could tie it up in little ponytails and even little braids. Louis currently had two hair clips in his hair. One was gold with little stars on it and the other gold with a moon. “I love your hair princess. Do you feel pretty?” He asked.
11) P Is For | Explicit | 4349 words
Note: The pairing for this fic is Louis/Pedro Pascal.
Louis and Pedro, winter in New York, a coffee machine, and bilingualism.
12) Pull Out Your Heart | Explicit | 5028 words
He wants to apologise, the five letters sit on the tip of his tongue but he does not. It means nothing to either of them.
13) Loving You's the Antidote | Explicit | 5070 words
Note: This fic was written for the Bottom Louis Fic Fest! Check out the full collection here.
Prompt 302: Alpha Harry & Omega Louis are divorced but still spend each other’s heat/rut together because they only really trust each other but things get complicated when Louis (or Harry, author’s choice) spend it with someone else. Cue angst with a happy ending.
14) Sweet Talk With A Hint Of Sin | Explicit | 5095 words
“What the hell are you wearing?” Harry had the nerve to ask, and Louis bristled slightly.
“Well, what the bloody fuck does it look like?” Louis snapped, breaking his seductive demeanor momentarily because he was wearing this ridiculous get-up for Harry. He had thought that this would go over well.
And now that the moment was here, it was going anything but.
Harry’s brain seemingly malfunctioned, completely unbothered by the fact that he was now standing in an actual pool of red wine, or that there might even be broken glass directly next to his feet. He was focused solely on his boy splayed out on their bed. “Are those ears?”
“Yes,” Louis mumbled, reaching up to finger the burnt orange fur of the fox ears. “And a tail,” he said, shifting to lay on his stomach so that his perky ass was on display, showing the way his lube slicked hole had been prepped and was now hugging the impressively sized plug attached to the fox tail.
15) New York's Beauty | Mature | 5274 words
Note: This fic was written for the Bottom Louis Fic Fest! Check out the full collection here.
Prompt 104: AU where Harry is an alpha wolf and Louis is a hybrid kitten. They were roommates. While they were arguing about something stupid, Harry wanted to bend Louis over the kitchen table and knot him right there. He slowly accepted his feelings and extreme desire for Louis, so he started to tease the hybrid until he would beg Harry to fuck him. They fall in love.
Louis needs to feel comfortable with the camera so harry fucks him until he is blushing and calm and gentle.
16) I Went Astray To Make It Okay And He Made It Easy | Not Rated | 5537 words
Note: This is a sequel to #17 on this list.
Harry makes sure to put on his blue truckers hat that has 'if you ain't a fisherman, you ain't shit' printed on it to hold back his hair out of his eyes. He remembers when he came home after buying it and Louis went on for days about much he looked like such a Dad. He made sure to fuck him hard that night and show him that he's a fucking DILF not just a Dad.
17) You Make My Heart Beat Like The Rain | Explicit | 6611 words
Note: This is the prequel to #16 on this list.
"You're stunning, eh?" Harry whispers, his Canadian accent thick with lust. It usually slips out when he gets horny because he knows it turns Louis on. Harry presses his lips into the curve of his neck. His hot breath makes Louis shiver. He opens his eyes and sees Harry's bigger, tattooed arms wrapped around him, completely engulfing his smaller frame—and, fuck, maybe he is up for it.
Why does his boyfriend have to be such a fucking DILF? He blames it on a twitter thread he read a few weeks ago.
18) Baby, Let Me Love You Goodbye | Explicit | 6837 words
Harry and Louis are going through a divorce after being together for 10 years, so Louis comes over to collect his things, and, well…what’s a little goodbye sex, just one last time?
19) A Place To Call Home | Mature | 8113 words
The thing is, he’s pretty sure he’s found home in a person in his life, someone who’s been essential in everything he’s done since he was seven years old. Through every broken bone, through every breakup, through every failure; through every triumph, personal and professional, and every goal he has scored in his time in Man U, there’s been someone there for it all.
That’s his best mate. Harry. A twenty-two year old with the kindest heart known to man, a slow drawl that is entirely too endearing, with the dreams to open up his own flower shop. A quiet and earnest boy with those he doesn’t know, and open and honest and absolutely lovely with those he loves.
It all hits him, really, the night of their final game of the Premier League. Again, timing is not his forté. They’re gearing up, ready to hit the field for the second half against Liverpool that determines their ranking in the League, when his brain decides to come online (after seventeen years, apparently), and conveniently supply him with the revelation that oh yeah, you’re kind of in love with your best friend.

“Mm,” Louis hums, squeezing his fingers tight, just to hear the sharp way Harry inhales.
