The amount of Dazai mischaracterization in this fandom is CRAZY
I’m not tagging this with a thing because I don’t feel like getting jumped today but whew I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of people finally realizing that Dazai doesn’t actually give a shit about Sigma past “this is a person -> this person became involved in a dangerous situation -> the right thing to do is my best to try to keep them alive” NOT “I must keep this person alive because they matter a lot to me personally and I would be very sad if they died or got hurt” 🥴 plus also the fact that Sigma is useful to him for information, I do think he would’ve tried to keep him alive even if he wasn’t useful, but NOT because he cares about him or has some sort of personal interest in his well being 💀 (he also would probably not have tried as hard if sigma wasn’t useful)
Like that’s so crazy to me do y’all even know who Dazai is 😭😭
Anyway like I was saying I was pleasantly surprised and then those people started showing up with their pitchforks and now I’m back to having very little faith

would have thought you would have the first chapter written before teasing anything. you got us all hyped up for nothing. i don’t think anyone was expecting to wait this long and now some of us are interested anymore and you’ll lose more the longer you take. just food for thought.
are— are you taking the piss?
genuine question…

Like look at another movie that was really weird and divisive with wacky visuals and sexual themes, just like men had: Beau Is Afraid.
Beau too was a fucking trip but in that movie we had an story. We had a starting point and an end goal. You'd even argue this is a vague take on the odyssey too. Sure it was kind of insane for better and for worse but all of its scenes and themes tied to a bigger picture.
MEN is so over the place trying to bring in so many details but refusing to give them a reason to be. In BIA at least you can go "Beau is hallucinating/living out his intrusive/paranoic thoughts" and it makes sense because if you have mental illness similar to him (I do) expecting the worst to happen is what you do, but here it's taken to 11 bc well he's imagining it a little too close. In MEN there's not a single semblance of an explanation on anything. They vaguely maybe imply paganism but I'm just making huge assumptions.
Like BIA is a movie that gives you stepping stones to tie it all together, while MEN is a movie where you just gotta write fucking fanfiction for any of it to make sense. And I'm so upset about it. -_-

I did NOT spend five fucking years breaking my back and my brain getting a degree in this for people to say that musical theatre is corny and useless and inherently shameful.
#YOU get through a two-show day with 9 intensive dance numbers!! YOU learn a sondheim score!!!! YOU sing an emotionally intense song that#hits a little too hard without crying onstage!!!!!!!!! YOU do all the work of singing a song in a strange style in a consistently healthy#way that doesn't ruin your voice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#YOU do the vocal stamina exercises and sit in a practice room for 50 minutes each day going over the same phrase to figure out#how it sits in your voice without losing your sanity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#EVERYONE SHUT THE FUCK UP#In the Vents#oh I am BITTER today my friends#it is a BAD chronic illness day#do not MAKE me pull out my 10 minute stephen schwartz presentation do not MAKE me scream about the instrumentation in#the deathnote stage musical do not MAKE me live-stream a practice session of trying to learn how to sing 'stupid with love' without#sounding like a dying rabid animal#NOBODY WANTS ANY OF THAT BUT I WILL DO IT IF THAT'S WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE YOU UNDERSTAND™#WATCH RAGS! WATCH LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA! WATCH PASSION! WATCH PARADE! WATCH THE COLOR PURPLE! im seeing a lot of posts about seasonal depression recommending vitamin d supplements and thats great and all but...
1. it's normal to feel a little gloomy in the winter. unless it affects your daily life, you dont have seasonal depression, you have the winter blues. if it does affect your daily life, please see a doctor. seasonal depression/SAD/MDD with seasonal pattern can be treated very effectively with antidepressants or light therapy (see below)
2. while there is a link between depression (particularly postpartum) and vitamin d deficiency, the effectiveness of vitamin d supplements as a treatment has not been conclusively proven.
3. even if you do suffer from seasonal depression, there's a good chance that your vitamin d levels are fine. if you regularly spend a decent amount of time outdoors during the summer months (mar-oct) when there is enough natural ultraviolet light available in latitudes like europe and north america for your body to synthesize its own vitamin d, you probably have enough stored in your fat cells to make it through the darker half of the year. if you live south of the 35th parallel you're making vitamin d year round.
supplements can't hurt (technically, excess levels of vitamin d can be toxic, but even with supplements you're unlikely to poison yourself) but, once again, my point is: even if you have a vitamin d deficiency, it's not necessarily connected to your seasonal depression, and even if there is a connection, it's not necessarily causal.
something super straightforward that is actually proven to work is light therapy, especially when its done early in the morning. it tackles a root cause (lack of daylight) and can help balance your circadian rhythm and your melatonin/serotonin production. it doesn't require a prescription (it's a lamp), you don't have to see a doctor in order to try it (it's a lamp), it's non-invasive (it's a lamp) and accessible (it's a lamp), and it has very few side effects (mostly stuff like eye strain or headaches since, again, it's a lamp). this is my second winter with a light therapy lamp and i have noticed a significant improvement not just in my overall mood but especially in my alertness and energy levels. so yeah. just putting that out there
