like, in one movie, he's a young man with a great and terrible destiny ahead of him, gaining the respect and admiration of an oppressed people to rise to a position of unimaginable religious power and authority, which he then uses to exert unilateral control over a psychoactive substance so powerful that society has no choice but to bow to his will as he steps into a messianic identity that reshapes the world in his name

we already have people bitching about how “i can’t stand Chani, she’s so annoying 🙄” and “Paul chose Chani to be the mother of his children, Irulan is just at the sidelines eating dust as she should”, like brothers we cannot do this again. We can’t Chani v Irulan our way out of this one because the problem is Paul and the Empire. Gosh, we truly are never getting out of the patriarchy.

love how feyd only appears like four times in the book: intro where he sulks around as the archetypical moody teen, gladiator scene where he schemes and wows everyone with his mad knife skillz, assassination attempt scene where he girlbosses too close to the sun and finally the knife sex fight duel—and yet all those scenes are so wild and memorable he comes off as the deuteragonist when u look at fan reception 😭

the more I read Dune Messiah the more I love it. First time through felt a little slow but I think it's a testament to the fact that you can read these books in whatever order you like. The Alia x Hayt hits so much harder once you have the full series under your belt. Same with Paul's transition into total prescience, I think it's the first time in the series you're introduced to the concept but I don't think it's as impactful until you've read God Emperor. I'm obsessed with the idea of destiny and reluctant godhood. Idk I just love this series and there's always a new little treat for me every time I re-read.
