How the Project Evolved: the Example of the Cover

The way the magazine started vs the way it is looking now is very different, and I think the easiest way to show it is by comparing the two different covers.

Here is the one I was planning on going with:

Really bright and in-your-face, I was inspired by magazines from the early 2000s and the 90s.

Here is the cover I am currently considering for the final version:

Much simpler. I simply drew the title of magazine in Times New Roman font. I don't know if I will add anything on the cover, I might leave it like this. I think that printed with the gloss finish, it will look good.

I like this new style because it allows for the actual contents of the magazine to shine more, instead of the layout taking over.

I decided to go for this cover because I have been really interested in typography lately, and I realised that when I was drawing the letters, I discovered details about their shapes that I never noticed. I like the way it looks in the end, because I think the Times New Roman font make things look quite serious, but the fact the it's imperfect and hand-drawn make for a good representation of the goofy comics inside the magazine. The magazine is a mix of serious things represented in a funny, unserious way.

Daily Poem 11/12/23

It's a strange realization, To have the strange realization that I'm at peace. I search for deep words of healing, But find simple, calming breaths. I search for stories to turn into song, But find no need, in this moment. As familiar music washes over me, And the rain drums accompaniment, I sit at peace.

Oh, I can feel my arms ache, as they often do. My back groans, from hours not fully supported. At the edge of my awareness, holding itself back, I can see the pain my family is feeling. But right now, in this moment, Even as I know I've stayed up far too late, I breathe easy, ready to sleep for the new day.
