The email I got from my past self on my birthday was from when I was 28. Surprisingly -- or maybe not -- it reads more or less the same as it would if I’d written it today. Maybe a few choice words here and there would be different, but at the core of it, I sound like the same person. Which I guess is a good thing. I don’t think I’ll ever feel as disconnected from the person writing as I did when I read the e-mail at 28 from my 18 year old self. That was on a whole other level. I plan to write one to my 40 year old self next week. I can’t imagine being 40. 

In the letter from when I was 28, I talked about how I’d just came back from my friend’s wedding in Nigeria. How, being around the celebratory environment for two days has made me constantly think about settling down myself. Little did I know that a little over a year and a half later, I’d be back home to Nigeria for another friend’s wedding, and this time around for four days. And my thoughts about getting married would be even more intensified. 

In the e-mail, I asked myself about a friend of mine who I had a crush on. Asked if she’s single. If she’s someone I could potentially end up with.

I also talked about the novel I’m writing, which I’ve since abandoned in lieu of this daily blogs. Or maybe I’m just better at writing for short bursts and not particularly suited for long narratives.

Writing letters to oneself in the future is something I would recommend to everyone. It’s like journaling, but the time factor makes it feel that much heavier. That much more important.

Turning 32

I wasn't feeling well but was too lazy to go to the doctors as such I still went to work.. At 0400hrs, I woke up, in a verge of wanting to vomit.. I ran to the kitchen sink and vomit out my stomach content.. I can feeling my body being so weak and start having cold sweats..

I went back to sleep at 0441hrs and woke up at 0900hrs and was late for work.. Wasn't having a good day at work cause I still felt weak, emotionally and physically..

The night before, a cousin of mine had asked for a desperate help.. Wanting to borrow $25k to clear their debts.. As much as I want to help, I don't see myself being able to.. I just couldn't afford to.. This was bothering my mind the whole day..

Apart from the financial issues, I got myself into trouble regarding one of my trooper's leave.. I just want the day to end.. I have no strength to go thru the day..

But my mood change when I got a surprise from my troopers.. I didn't expect it.. Maybe because of how my day went.. I went into tears cause it's been quite awhile since someone surprise me for my birthday..

I was surprised with my favorite cake from Coffee Bean, Chocolate of a Thousand Leaves.. I got a Kabuto Exceed Helmet and I got a Michael Kors bag.. I feel so touch.. I feel so appreciated.. A feeling I was longing for.. No one have ever spend so much for my birthday.. Thank you guys.. You make my day brighter.. You make this birthday the best birthday ever..

Indeed, it's a Happy Birthday..

when I returned to my room after work, the door wasn’t latched. I went down and told the manager. she apologized & asked if anything was missing. told her I wasn’t sure / my suitcase was still there. looks like housekeeping didn’t close the door all the way.

I ate some fried fish for lunch that I bought at a gas station. Feels kinda heavy in my stomach so I will probably eat something light for supper.
