Uh oh so we’ve got some stakes now. I knew Konoha’s time travelling had to come at a cost. That cost seemingly being the changing of history and some games not being created. I wonder if the catch is gonna be that it’s a time paradox and that those games in the present don’t get made if she doesn’t help make them in the past. The good old Terminator school of time travel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s cool that she’s not alone in this anymore though and now has Mamoru as a partner, kinda like Chifuyu and Takamichi. Mamoru’s dad has unfortunately been blinded by his success at Alcohol soft and isn’t putting nearly the effort into maintaining the company that he should. Typical game execs lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also turns out that cleaning up the trash ended up being the best course of action for Konoha as they found info on Ichigaya. Really excited to see how it turns out
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tons of anime and VN references in this episode as usual.

Wait, Kamen Rider Kuuga didn't exist until 2000, why does that 1992 magazine cover have Kuuga Amazing Mighty on it? The newest rider in 1992 was Shin and Kamen Rider Black's antenna are white and not as pronounced as Kuuga's horns and Shin came after Black RX and it's way too late for a new issue of a magazine to have Kamen Rider Black.

Causing a time paradox by going back in time and killing your own grandfather: boring. Wasteful. Ethically dubious. Might not even work, if there is a paternity discrepancy you don't know about. He was probably in a war and might win when you fight him.
Causing a time paradox by going back in time and introducing your own mother to yuri: fresh. Zero-waste. Ethically neutral, and you'll find out quickly if it's going to work or not. Might be the plot of an actual anime airing this season.

“in the snow”
Tumblr media
| 0.7k | Hunter x Reader | 16+ |
Author's notes: sorry to my 4am thirsty anon, I couldn't do what you wanted and this is a tiny bit angsty, forgive me? <3
The heaviness of the snowfall made visibility almost non-existent.
The biting cold pierced through every layer of clothing you wore. However, your body ran warmer than most, so the freezing temperatures didn’t affect you as much.
Hunter, on the other hand, didn’t fare as well. Their body ran colder, and you could see them shivering.
You stumbled upon a small, secluded house in the forest. It was old and worn, but it had a fireplace. You didn’t waste any time gathering firewood and igniting the hearth, the crackling flames brightening the room.
As you sat on the creaky wooden floor, you pulled the blanket tightly around both of you.
It was a single blanket, barely enough to cover you completely, but you didn’t mind. You knew that your body was warm and Hunter needed the warmth, and you were willing to provide it in any way you could.
Hunter, shivering uncontrollably, leaned against you, their body seeking solace and respite from the frigid air.
The crackling of the fire served as a soothing soundtrack to the stillness around you. As they wrapped their arms around you, their head found a comfortable spot nestled against your neck. It was an intimate embrace, one born out of necessity rather than desire.
The feeling of Hunter’s touch, their lips grazing against the exposed skin on your neck, sent a shiver down your own spine. It was an unusual sensation, knowing that Hunter would never have indulged in such intimate contact under ordinary circumstances.
“This would be more efficient if we didn’t have our clothes on,” Hunter murmured, their voice groggy with fatigue. There was no mischief or humor in their words, only a genuine desire to alleviate the cold that gripped them.
You felt warm, partly from the warmth emanating from the fireplace and partly from the unexpected suggestion, you asked, “What?”
Hunter didn’t answer, instead they tightened their hold on you.
Unable to decipher the meaning behind Hunter’s words, you leaned back into them, and your eyes fluttered closed. The sound of the crackling fire melded with the gentle rhythm of your breathing.
However, as you allowed yourself to relax, you felt a peculiar sensation. Hunter’s hands, which had been initially wrapped around your torso, began to shift gradually. They moved slowly, cautiously, until they settled between your thighs.
The cold of their hands made you shiver.
Barely above a whisper, Hunter’s voice reached your ear, the words slightly slurred, “It’s warmer between your thighs.”
Their words hung in the air, a statement that intrigued you. It was as though the grogginess clouding their mind blurred the boundaries between friendship and intimacy, blurring the lines of propriety.
Part of you wanted to question what was going through their mind, to understand their thoughts. But another part of you wanted to indulge in this moment. After all, it was you who had convinced Hunter to indulge in this closeness, and now the boundaries were being tested even further.
Tentatively, you parted your legs ever so slightly, granting them further access to the intimate space between your thighs.
A low chuckle escaped Hunter’s lips, sending a tingle down your spine. Their hands, previously tracing the sensitive skin of your inner thighs, now moved to firmly close the distance between them. The warmth that had briefly enveloped your most intimate area receded, leaving a lingering sense of anticipation.
“Don’t do that, not for someone like me,” Hunter whispered, their voice a mix of desire and resignation, a plea for you to maintain the boundaries that have been established between you. Their words carried a weight of self-restraint, a reminder of the limitations they believed they possessed.
As you began to consider Hunter’s words, their hands found their way back to your torso. Hunter drew you closer, wrapping their arms securely around your waist.
Feeling their breath tickling your skin as they buried their face into the crook of your neck, made you gulp. The intimacy of the moment, the closeness, was both comforting and electrifying. In a hushed, heartfelt tone, they murmured, “Thank you.”
Those two simple words held a depth of emotion you hadn’t anticipated. It was as if this moment meant more to them than you could have imagined.

animes 2023
i didn't watch a ton of seasonals but i watched more than usual so... looking back? very somewhat brief comments! obviously inspired by @kbnet doing the same.
Tengoku Daimakyou
fave anime this year was probably Tengoku Daimakyou. easily the one that stood out the most from an animation perspective, the wonky brain transplant gender thing was a lot of fun, and for better or worse i seem to have now trained a pretty high tolerance for an impactful but questionably necessary sexual assault subplot in the finale.
I kinda get it, it'd been telegraphing a fascination with what makes gender, with power and exploitation, and in general the difficult experience of sexuality from pretty early on. there's a lot of ways that Robin could turn out to have clay feet when we meet him. they went for about the nastiest possible; that episode becomes a bit of a rape-revenge plot. the real question will be how they handle the aftermath.
and honestly? I am really looking forward to where it goes. I'm intrigued by what will happen to the psychic kids, I'm enjoying the main pair's meandering journey. it can deliver an impactful episode plot that hits hard, but it also definitely feels like it has narrative momentum towards something.
technically it stayed insanely strong throughout: the characters are distinctive and expressive, the animation is super lively, the backgrounds gorgeous. love to see Production I.G. firing on all cylinders like this.
Oshi no Ko
Oshi no Ko from the same season was also very solid, like it definitely dangles a pretty wacky premise, but it turns into this very earnest thing about acting and the many tensions and violences of the entertainment industry. Since watching that I've read all the manga that's available in scanlation, and it's a pretty direct beat for beat adaptation, but it's interesting how pacing that felt kinda laboured in the anime felt a lot snappier in the manga.
Probably the most interesting challenge for the animators was how to take a story that really hinges on the question of what makes for good and bad acting and make it convincing in animation. In the end, they still rely a lot on framing and symbolic elements like the star eyes to get it across, but there's still some really key moments where the animated acting shines.
I was curious enough to start reading Kaguya-sama: Love Is War by the same author and it didn't do a lot. I wanna check out the anime though bc it seems to be really highly respected.
16-Bit Sensation: Another Layer
16Bit Sensation has a lot of endearing aspects. The mc is endearing for her big himejoshi energy even if they're blatantly angling to push her together with the guy. The wilder turns taken at the end are fun (a lot to be dug into with the 'what if moe evolved in the states' thing) although it kind of quickly falls into a pretty conventional hero-villain save the day thing. I liked the yuri-lite subplot with the girl who the protag helps to buy some eroge who then becomes a gamedev herself. The concept can be read as a fascinating kind of CCRU thing with the concept of moe reaching back in time to create itself. That could be fun if you delved into it more.
If there's one thing it's kind of lacking it's like... any actual details on PC98 game dev, which mostly happens in offscreen montages. I was watching it with a friend who's a real big nerd for old computers so it was fun to share that with her, but ultimately the most it has to say about the actual games is that the girls are cute (one of them says uguu) and also dithering is a thing. The finale involves this escalating gag about strapping PC98s together in parallel to make increasingly unlikely compute stacks, which is fun but also it's kind of just using the PC98 as a symbol at that point as you get further and further from the actual capabilities of the machine.
What is that symbol? There's an odd kind of quiet nationalism in it. The significance of the PC98 is that it was the last successful home computer to be made domestically in Japan; likewise the stakes of the finale are the culture of Akihabara as an otaku space, with the alternative being gentrified blocks of flats and American cultural domination. I haven't had a chance to see the finale yet so I'm wondering how they're gonna resolve it. I feel you could do a lot more with the ideas they raise in this alternate timeline, but it's playing pretty loose at this point with a very protagonist centric story, so it can't really get into them.
Trigun Stampede
Can't say too much about this one because I only saw half and I was watching it unsubbed for immersion practice, and it was a bit beyond my level. It's interesting from a character design trends perspective. Orange are undoubtedly the kings of 3DCG anime, but I didn't like the lighting style here as much as I did Houseki. Need to watch this again at some point subbed.
NieR Automata ver 1.1a
Hard to know what to say here. This was one of several big production collapses of 2023 - a two cour anime that went on a long hiatus before finishing even one. I kind of fell off at that point, so I still need to finish it.
I went in with a sense of trepidation. I didn't like what I'd seen of the designs and photography, and the first episode seemed to confirm my worst fears, with some incredibly shoddy CGI and weak action. Thankfully, the later episodes all improve on matters a great deal.
This would be a terrible substitute for the game, but as a companion piece, it's pretty cool - it jumps between the main beats and fleshes out some of the side characters, or focuses on some odd poignant little stories. I was honestly surprised how many notes it could hit. Of course, Keiichi Okabe's music does a lot of heavy lifting - the animation is sometimes strong (if a bit melty) but I don't love the designs and photography style in general. Still this anime grew on me a lot and I do mean to finish it - it's NieR after all, practically a religious obligation at this point.
Attack on Titan: The Final Season: The Final Chapters: Part 1: Dream Drop Distance
lol
So like a year ago I watched through Attack on Titan with mogs, came to a somewhat questionable redemptive reading of it as not being the fashiest anime ever but charting a rather muddled break from a nationalist worldview into more of a Gundam type story of enemies putting aside their differences, the futility of military sacrifice, etc etc. (we later watched Tanya the Evil, continually waiting for the other shoe to drop with it being straight up a nazi propaganda power fantasy - it never did, that anime is straight up irredeemable lmao). anyway I said at the time that the finale would confirm or deny my interpretation of what it's about, determined by the question of how it addresses Eren's ideological turn. I think I was maybe out waaaaay on a limb with all this shit lmao. ngl mostly I watched this cartoon because the story is so deranged and I want to see for myself what insane turns the guy will pull next.
Anyway MAPPA spent a lot of animators on this, bc they're MAPPA, so it naturally had some very impressive scenes. Any sort of thematic resolution was still deferred and I'm 99% sure it's gonna be some sort of pathetic copout... oh apparently they released the finale like two months ago lmao, guess I'll finally get to find out. What a weird franchise to have driven the 2010s anime boom honestly.
Magical Destroyers
I really wanted to like this one more than I did. A lot of anime these days feels very sanded down and predictable, and whatever it is, Magical Destroyers definitely isn't that. It has a great OP that writes a lot of cheques that the show itself sadly isn't really up to paying...
youtube
...and there's a lot that's interestingly odd about it; it's got this cheerfully enthusiastic attitude towards explicit sexuality, it's got a very online weeb sense of humour, it honestly kind of feels like of if the people who do 'Otaku Vs.' on youtube got to make a series.
Anyway at some point I saw a 20 minute summary of the rest:
youtube
The explanation behind all this turns out to be: the creator is a 24 year old Japanese-American guy who's spent half his life in California, skating and drawing for clothing brands and DJing and stuff like that after he didn't make it as a mangaka at first, and somehow his connections turned into an anime deal. Ostensibly Undertale was an inspiration although it's not entirely clear how. The result is something incredibly disjointed that doesn't go anywhere, with incomprehensible meta turns and barely existent characterisation, but it certainly stands as something different.
Zom100
I watched this because Sakugablog covered it. It's very nicely animated for sure, with great use of saturated colour, but I dropped it after three or four episodes because I couldn't connect to the power fantasy, the only girl was way too overdetermined by being the obvious love interest, and it really didn't seem to be going anywhere. Also the flight attendant episode just felt mean-spirited, especially how little impact it seems to leave on our protagonists. I get that the whole point is the MC's sunny attitude being completely at odds with the apocalyptic setting, but I ended up finding him grating.
There's also some unfortunate irony in the fact that after the pointed jabs at the animators' former studio OLM in the first ep, they apparently ended up crunching pretty hard by the end.
and...
Damn is that really all I watched this year? Still haven't seen a few much-hyped ones like the Scott Pilgrim anime or Frieren. I guess mostly I watch stuff through Animation Night still...
As far as movies: Boy and the Heron/How Do You Live only just came out in the UK, gonna see it in a week. Haven't seen Suzume yet, or the whiskey one, or The Concierge. I wrote my comments on Kaina of the Great Snow Sea (disappointing), Tunnel to Summer: The Exit of Goodbyes (decent summer movie), Lonely Castle in the Mirror (solid and affecting) and The First Slam Dunk (actually incredible, made me understand sports) during Annecy - technically most of those came out last year anyway lol. Apparently there's a new Psycho-Pass movie too! When Psycho-Pass is good it's great, so I'll give that a shot.
Outside of anime - been meaning to check out some TV donghua like Link Click; also very excited to dig into Scavenger's Reign. I'll certainly report back when I do.
Animation Night's kinda fallen apart in the last few months - it would happen sooner or later, the project has kinda run its course and achieved "social connection" and "speedrunning an education in animation history" lol. but I'm glad I've kept it going as long as I have. I'm gonna try and bring it back in the new year, it would be nice to reach that big 200 before I wrap it up for good.
Thanks for reading my blog, nerds!! Let's see if I can make 2024 the year I go from just talking about animation to making my own short films.

April 2024 Wrapup
The way this month has ended has coloured most of everything else happening within the month, none of which is stuff I consider meaningful content for the blog in general. Suffice to say this is a month in which I was trying to save money and do my best and by the end of the month I am extremely frazzled and uncertain as to how I’m doing what I’m doing. But you didn’t come here for that, you came here for posts! Posts about Spiderman!
Alright let’s dive on into this. What are the Game Pile articles this month?
Examining Gender and Capitalism in Braid. This video got me a comment I liked a lot where a commenter noted that being good at making puzzles doesn’t make you any good at criticising humans’ reactions to puzzles.
Sheriff of Nottingham, a dramatic tension and bluffing game, where players have to construct a language, then lie in it, all with a dash of political manipulation in the form of bribes. A great game in the ‘Anxiety Engine’ model that I like but never am likely to own.
Planetfall and Bioshock Infinite, a long form essay video where I both recapped the basic experience of Bioshock Infinite and brought into contrast the idea that videogames’ ability to affect their audience is directly in contrast to different aesthetic forms.
Gazillionaire, a truly awful looking game that, hilariously, just after I wrote this article I finally played to a victory. Know what happens when you beat the game? The game keeps going and just moves the goal post further.
And then the Story Pile articles?
Hazbin Hotel, a series you should steal about a particularly pre-modern Christian vision of Hell expressed through gnostic mysterio and also the story of a bunch of shockingly hot endearing monster weirdoes.
You Were Never Really Here, which is part of an ongoing series of Positronic Collection movies. This was chosen specifically to mesh with the theme of me, as a person, and it’s kinda eerie how good a job it does at that.
16 Bit Sensation: Another Layer, which is an anime that you might think of as ‘fun’ and ‘good’ and which made me so mad I specifically set aside the time to kick it in the teeth into my April articles.
Oshi no Ko, a series I like just enough to complain about it a bunch. I mean I really like it, and really like complaining about it.
Lords and Ladies, one of the many books I consider one of the best Discworld books. This one’s about elves!
But there’s more! I wrote about a brilliant idiot, in the form of the transformer Wheeljack, and I wrote about my demon boy OC big brother figure, Bael. I wrote about a Magic: The Gathering deck I like and technology in the game I dislike that we’re getting even though I dislike it. I also spent some time reflecting on my current WIP game designs, which I found a lot of fun and want to do more of.
I talk to you a little bit. I talked to you in terms of what I think of you as an audience, I talk to you about creating tension in your writing, and I talked about the way I treat you, and how your time is a gift. I reflected on what it means to be a part of my audience, and whether or not there are things about you I can control. I also encouraged you to make things and show them to me, as a present to me.
There was some world-building talk; I talked about the way planes can be seen and treated as distinct parts of the world, with Planar Lenses, and I also explained a setting element in Cobrin’Seil, a favourite place where the wizards and sorcerers train together but also learn how to swing a hammer. That place, The Laewaes Dramaturgist, also served to talk about the ways that people in universe, in general, discuss the idea of types of spellcasters. While I was on the D&D thread and organisational systems, I dug into the 3rd edition magic item system. While talking about my personal fascinations in D&D, then, I also talked about the druid, and Why Is Druid?
This turning of the years in April, again, does make me think about things I was told about how my life would go. One of the most miserable considerations there was the way I was told that my sex life was going to go, and what that meant and what I should be expecting, all told while we should definitely, definitely not have opinions or expectations for sex. This was told through a metaphor of a jellybean jar.
I noticed that the logo for Hazbin Hotel, the key, looks a bit like the Sonic the Hedgehog winged ring logo and that’s what gave rise to this. Behold! A drawing of two characters with one looking happily at her idiot. You can get it as a sticker, or coasters, or a t-shirt. For example.
I don’t like how much work I got done this month. Obviously, I fear that if I go back and look at all the other posts I made this past year that may be the case. But in the PhD, last month featured a dedicated chunk of work on my literature review, and this month should be the completion of the draft of the methodology. We’re now at the point of getting things onto the page, and as I write this – on the 27th – my birthday has proven to be an impediment for that. Like, turns out that people want to see you on your birthday.
At the late point in the month I devised a new idea for something cool and complicated (and more about that on the Patreon). I have a want to do something cool with a few different systems – a new game mechanical idea, and a push for a kind of video that’s a little easier to make than most.
May has five Fridays in it, and they’re set up so there are going to be three main videos in it, so look forward to that!
Check it out on PRESS.exe to see it with images and links!

MADOKA OP OMG OMG OMG OMG. The scream I scrumt during that opening lol. Such a hype way to kick off another great episode
Tumblr media
When Mamoru introduced the new computers it sounded like a variation of an Eva OST as well.
Tumblr media
Speaking of the new computers, one of the coolest parts about this series is showing the evolution of Visual novel designing. Konoha talking about the 200 layers used to make that illustration blew everyone’s minds when it’s now the standard. A lot has changed in 24 years
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Introducing modern otaku marketing techniques like merchandise, dakis, pre order bonuses etc was also another great move. Nothing better than going into Animate and buying some shit and getting rewarded with a little poster or card from the LN you’re buying. Definitely makes the buying experience better.
Tumblr media
They really only glazed over the beach/pool party?? Wtf we were robbed 😭 for an anime that’s a love letter to otaku and the Visual Novel medium, that’s criminal.
Tumblr media
That ending was wild! Another unique element being added to the story now that Mamoru can go to the future as well. Can’t wait to see what he learns over there… could also be the past too since that game came out in 85.

I watched the first episode of 16-Bit Sensation Another Layer (which, that another part had me thinking this was a sequel to something?? Idk) and enjoyed it! I like how they presented the very first scene in 4:3 and with noticeably worse audio. The protagonist's voice is a bit squeaky but not so much so that I had to yank the ripcord. It was also fun to notice the very subtle changes that occurred inside the restaurant to indicate the time travel has occurred - the phone in a lady's hand replaced by a book, the advertisement gone from the wall. The mysterious little shop element reminded me of Video Girl Ai... which just so happens to be from around 1992!
I then kept up those good vibes with Overtake episode 2. You get to learn more about the finances behind F4 racing in this one - and the scene of (unsuccessfully) trying to sell sponsorships had me flashing back to my fruitless attempts to sell ads in my high school newspaper. And the shops I went to didn't even give me free stuff for trying lol. This is an enjoyable show. It has some heart!

Dessert Dream Come True: Best Keto Cheesecake Chocolate Recipe in 2024
Taste Sensation
Tumblr media
Is cheesecake OK to eat on a keto diet?
Yes, cheesecake can be enjoyed on a keto diet, but it’s important to choose recipes that are low in carbs and high in healthy fats. Traditional cheesecake recipes often contain high amounts of sugar and carbs from the crust and sweeteners, which can kick you out of ketosis. However, there are plenty of keto-friendly cheesecake recipes available that use almond flour or crushed nuts for the crust and low-carb sweeteners like erythritol or stevia instead of sugar. Additionally, using cream cheese, eggs, and heavy cream as the main ingredients ensures a rich, satisfying dessert while keeping the carb count low. Just be mindful of portion sizes to stay within your daily carb limit and enjoy your keto cheesecake guilt-free.
This keto chocolate cheesecake is a chocolate lover’s dream! It’s creamy, rich, and best of all, it’s sugar-free, so you can indulge without any guilt. And guess what? It’s really easy to make

This keto chocolate cheesecake is a chocolate lover’s dream! It’s creamy, rich, and best of all, it’s sugar-free, so you can indulge without any guilt. And guess what? It’s really easy to make.
Why It’s So Good?
This keto chocolate cheesecake has three layers of chocolate goodness. From the easy chocolate almond flour crust to the creamy dark chocolate filling, every bite is pure bliss. And let’s not forget the smooth, velvety ganache topping that takes it to another level of deliciousness.
Ingredients You’ll Need.
For this recipe, you’ll just need some basic ingredients like cream cheese, sour cream, cocoa, melted chocolate, eggs, and vanilla. It’s a simple list, but it packs a big flavor punch.
Tumblr media
Step By Step Instructions
Making this keto chocolate cheesecake is a breeze. Start by mixing almond flour, cocoa, sweetener, and melted butter to make the crust. Press it into the bottom of a cheesecake pan and bake for about 10 minutes until it’s set.
While the crust bakes, melt chocolate and coconut oil together, then add the extracts. In another bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar substitute until smooth. Add eggs, extracts, sour cream, melted chocolate, and espresso powder, and mix until everything is combined.
Pour the batter into the crust and bake at 350°F for about an hour, until the edges are set and the center is slightly jiggly. Let the cheesecake cool in the oven for an hour, then transfer it to a rack to cool completely.
Once cooled, top it with a rich chocolate ganache and refrigerate until ready to serve. It’s perfect for any occasion.
Baking Tips
To get a perfectly creamy cheesecake, don’t overmix the batter. Use room temperature ingredients and mix just until combined. Avoid opening the oven door while baking, as it can cause cracking. Instead, use a water bath or place a pan of hot water in the oven for moisture. If your cheesecake cracks, don’t worry. Just cover it up with extra ganache or whipped cream

FAQs:
Why didn’t my cheesecake set?
Don’t panic if your cheesecake looks a bit wobbly when you take it out of the oven. It’ll firm up as it cools in the refrigerator. If it’s still too soft, bake it a bit longer.
Can I freeze cheesecake?
Sure thing. Just wrap each slice tightly, put them in a sealed container or a bag that won’t let air in, and pop them in the freezer. When you want to eat one, just let it thaw out in the fridge overnight or give it a quick zap in the microwave. Easy peasy.
