Roger Rees was born on the 5th of May, 1944 in Aberystwyth, to William John and Doris Louise Rees (née Smith). They later all moved to Balham, London.
After studying art at Camberwell College of Arts and Slade School of Fine Art, Roger fell into theatre acting and became a successful stage actor, joining the RSC.
Roger won an Olivier Award for 'Actor of the Year in a New Play' in 1980 and a Tony Award for Best Actor in 1982 for his leading role in The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, an 8 and a half hour long adaptation of the Dickens novel by David Edgar.
Following his successes on the stage, Roger became well-known for his TV roles, especially in Cheers from 1989. He also later appeared in The West Wing, Grey's Anatomy, Law & Order, Elementary and more.
He was also a film actor, with his most well-known role being the Sheriff of Rottingham in Robin Hood: Men in Tights. Other films he appeared in included Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot, A Midsummer Night's Dream and Frida.
He lived in the US for 25 years and married his partner of 33 years, playwright Rick Elice, in 2011, when it became legal in New York. Roger was also a convert to Judaism.
Roger Rees died from brain cancer on the 10th of July, 2015, aged 71. Posthumously, he was inducted to the American Theater Hall of Fame.

just watched a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream perrformed onstage but filmed for TV in 1982 and Christine Baranski makes a phenomenal Helena, tall and refined and smitten with Demetrius but finally Completely Done with being overlooked and mocked, and she lets loose while also maintaining dignity.
the fairies were delightful to watch, impish and a bit wicked, and puck (played by a cute lady actress) was particularly goofy, running around the stage and showing off for oberon's benefit and trying to imitate him. the changeling boy was a part of the play! he was probably about three years old and an adult would carry him onstage and let him run around with a little bit of direction, and then pick him up again when the scene was done, and by the end of the play it became clear that titania and oberon were going to raise him together and no one had to be kidnapped at all!

A marvelous production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream."
I love Oberon's entrance!
From YouTube:
"I apologize for the poor condition of this video. I initially recorded this on a VCR. This play was performed in the summer of 1982 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, New York City. It also stars Christine Baranski - probably best known as Dr. Beverly Hofstadter on "The Big Bang Theory," Andreas Katsulas who played GKar on "Babylon 5," and Emanuel Lewis (10 years old at time.).

Olivia de Havilland
*She confessed had an intense crush on Errol Flynn during the years of their filming, saying that it was hard to resist his charms. She and Errol Flynn acted together in eight movies: The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), Captain Blood (1935), The Charge of the Light Brigade (1936), Dodge City (1939), Four's a Crowd (1938), The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex (1939), Santa Fe Trail (1940), and They Died with Their Boots On (1941) Both are also featured in a ninth film, Thank Your Lucky Stars (1943), although in separate scenes.
*Olivia accepted two film roles turned down by Ginger Rogers: To Each His Own (1946) and The Snake Pit (1948). She won an Oscar for To Each His Own (1946) and was nominated for The Snake Pit (1948). Rogers later regretted turning down the roles and wrote: "It seemed Olivia knew a good thing when she saw it. Perhaps Olivia should thank me for such poor judgment".
*She and Joan Fontaine are the first sisters to win Oscars and the first ones to be Oscar-nominated in the same year.Relations between Olivia and younger sister Joan Fontaine were never strong and worsened in 1941, when both were nominated for Best Actress Oscars. Their mutual dislike and jealousy escalated into an all-out feud after Fontaine won for Suspicion (1941). Despite the fact that de Havilland went on to win two Academy Awards of her own, they remained permanently estranged. As de Havilland once told a reporter: “My sister was born a lion, and I was born a tiger, and in the laws of the jungle, they were never friends.”
*James Cagney has said that she was his favorite leading lady. They appeared together in The Irish in Us (1935), A Midsummer Night's Dream (1935), and made a most memorable romantic pairing in The Strawberry Blonde (1941).
*In 1943, de Havilland battled Warner Brothers in court over her contract with the film company. This marked the beginning of the end of the studio system as the California Supreme Court ruled in favour of de Havilland who claimed Warner Bros. was forcing her to stay beyond her seven-year agreement. As of 1945, the “de Havilland rule” was put into place by all major Hollywood studios, effectively stating that companies could not sign actors to contracts that extended beyond a maximum of seven calendar years.
*In 1965 she became the first female president of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival.
*Revealed in a UK press interview that she was a great admirer of Queen Mother (whom she had earlier portrayed in the TV film The Royal Romance of Charles and Diana (1982)), stating that she hoped "to follow her example and live many years longer". De Havilland would go onto match and beat the Queen Mother's eventual lifespan of 101 years and 238 days old.De Havilland died at age 104.

if you’re hearing THIS HELL by RINA SAWAYAMA playing, you have to know ISADORA KIMANI-LIN (SHE / HER; CIS WOMAN) is near by! the FORTY-ONE year old PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN ( FAMILY PRACTITIONER ) has been in denver for, like, ELEVEN YEARS. they’re known to be quite STOIC, but being STEADFAST seems to balance that out. or maybe it’s the fact that they resemble CONSTANCE WU. personally, i’d love to know more about them seeing as how they’ve got those WORN-OUT MEDICAL BOOKS LINING THE SHELVES, SIGNED AND FRAMED PLAYBILLS DECORATING THE WALLS, THE THRILL OF DECORATING FOR EACH HOLIDAY vibes. and maybe i’ll get my chance if i hang out around the CHERRY CREEK DISTRICT long enough!
STATS:
full name :       isadora kimani - lin nickname(s) :     dory ( by solana only ), iz, dora birthplace :      new york city, new york date of birth :       02 / 02 / 1982 parentage :      tbd. sibling(s) :      tbd. relationship status :     married spouse :     solana kimani - lin gender identity :     cis woman ( she / her ) sexual orientation :      lesbian faceclaim :      constance wu
BACKGROUND:
isadora lin was born the first child of two dreamers. her mother an aspiring singer, her father an aspiring filmmaker. together, they supported each other and all they wanted out of life.
living in new york city seemed like a no-brainer for people with such big dreams, so it's no surprise that's where this little family ended up
there were some jobs here and there for both, and they each felt a rush every time they had an opportunity pop up
these opportunities would often pull them away from their small family unit. it was hard for the other to stay with their baby / toddler while the other was off chasing their dream
it soon became a game of hot potato. one parent gone for a few months, the other taking off as soon as the first returns home. this game continues until isadora is five, when the couple finally called it quits.
they were never married, so legally the split was easier. and, surprisingly, the custody problem was easy as well. they lived in the same city and would allow her to go back and forth as she pleased ( as long as it were possible ).
isadora having the option to CHOOSE growing up was helpful with her confidence. knowing her choices were heard and mattered.
with such artistic parents, it's almost expected for her to start attending theatre camps at the age of six.
her parents had taken her for a couple of commercial auditions from the ages of eight to ten, but overall, isadora found herself most comfortable on the stage.
some people loved the stage because it gave them the chance to be somebody else, but isadora loved it because it gave her the chance to simply BE SOMEBODY. somebody that people recognized, perceived, and listened to.
she was confident, there was no doubt about it. you had to be to do live performances. if anything, each performance made her confidence grow more and more.
she'd auditioned for each and every school play in high school, but everything changes for her when she's cast as helena in a midsummer night's dream her senior year of high school
in typical high school rivalry, it's a bit of shock when another school in the district is also doing a midsummer night's dream
during an impromptu meeting between the casts is when isadora meets SOLANA KIMANI for the first time. they're meant to be enemies ( and if you asked isadora, they were ), but is it really isadora's fault that she can't stop glancing over at her?
they're definitely enemies, but they're also definitely meeting up after school to rehearse their lines together. isadora can't help but be entranced by solana's... well, everything.
they're most definitely enemies, but isadora can't help the butterflies she feels when solana shows up to her opening night with flowers to support her ( ditching her own opening night in the process )
it's all very innocent after that. a few dates and a few kisses, because they're both off to different colleges after that. they knew what they were getting themselves into-- a relationship right before college was never meant to last. they were enjoying each other's company while they could, and after that, they're just a fond high school memory
when your parents are such artistic types, they're only a tad bit heartbroken when you tell them you DON'T want to be a professional actor and would rather be a doctor
isadora is twenty-nine when she finally finishes her residency. she decides to take one more year in new york for a fellowship program.
when she's thirty, she realizes new york is too fast paced for her and she needs something a bit slower
denver seems nice, and horizon family health is looking for a family practitioner
as she's adjusting to the new surroundings, isadora can't help but just feel LONELY. she's left everyone she knows behind in new york, so can you blame her for turning to online dating?
isadora has to think she's dreaming, because is that SOLANA KIMANI on her screen?
she tries to act cool, but how do you act cool when the universe is handing you the one who got away on a silver platter?
it only takes two months for solana to propose and for isadora to say yes. when you know, you just know.
they're married a year before solana starts bringing up FOSTERING and ADOPTING. it wasn't something isadora had really been thinking, but she would do anything to make solana happy. she didn't hate the idea, either.
it's been ten years since they started fostering, and although it has been a struggle, isadora wouldn't change a thing

Friday's theme is cold, snow, and The Arctic. Ive never seen "The Snow Devils", but aliens trying to freeze Earth as a form of terraforming? That's gotta be worth a watch! "The Thing From Another World" is awesome. Sure, I'll watch it for a 37th time.

Shakespeare In the Park production of “A Midsummer’s Night Dream.”
@victorianwestpiano  and other theater lovers, thought you might find this interesting.  I found the 1982 Joseph Papp’s Shakespeare In the Park production of A Midsummer’s Night Dream. I watched in on public TV back then.  The cast includes then unknown actors William Hurt and Christine Baranski.  It’s the first time I ever saw a woman cast as Puck.

With the recent passing of Kevin Conroy ,I got curious about some of his pre Batman work. I knew he was a Shakesperian actor so I got curious to see if any of his performances were filmed.Thankfully one shakesperian role has been perserved ,a 1982 production of Midsummer Nights Dream ,where he played Lysander ,with Christine Baranski as Helena,Jeffrey DeMunn as Bottom, and William Hurt as Oberon .Just started it and he is a very good Lysander I feel ,and am also amused that he shares a role with David Warner ,who not only played Batman nemesis Ra's Al Ghul but also played Lysander in a 1968 film version (Which happens to be my favorite version)

Before yesterday, Daniel DeLuca had never been on a real date.
Sure, he went with Sadie to the eighth-grade graduation dance last June (and again with Sadie to the homecoming dance this past September), but that didn’t count. They were with the rest of their friends. Sadie being his date was just a formality, just a fun thing to say. Their homecoming slow dance was out of convenience; the order of fries they split at the diner afterwards was out of Daniel forgetting his wallet at home. Those weren’t dates. They were evenings out with a friend.
But yesterday, with Melissa Kaminski? That was a date.
As he pours himself a bowl of Kix on May 1, 1982, he thinks about what got him here, feeling like he has new limbs in his mother’s kitchen on a Saturday morning. He met Melissa Kaminski in August on the first day of school – ninth grade. They were in the same drama class. Even though Melissa is a sophomore, she’s got one of those late November birthdays, so she’s just fifteen, too. Same age as Daniel, just three and a half months earlier. He’d seen Melissa around in elementary school and junior high, but back then, she seemed untouchable. Cool. When she was in seventh grade, she became famous after getting stuck with lunch detention for kissing her boyfriend on the way to Mass on a Wednesday morning. Daniel never forgot that because nobody did. In a school as small as St. Catherine’s, you don’t forget much.
But in high school drama class, Melissa seemed different. Approachable. She sat behind Daniel for the whole semester and partnered up with him on a few assignments, including a scene from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. She was Helena, and as she read, Daniel couldn’t help but notice how pretty she was. How pretty she is. Her short red hair makes her look like she should be in a painting or a picture book. He’s heard other guys talk about Melissa Kaminski before, but he’s never seen it for himself. Not until looking at her makes him forget how to read.
This semester, Melissa is in his French class. Her accent is the worst in the room, but she gives it her all. That’s her thing, she says. Giving it her all. Once again, she sits behind Daniel; once again, she seems approachable. So approachable that last Monday, when she asked him for a movie date on Friday, Daniel couldn’t help but say yes.
The memory of last night is already hazy and blue. He remembers meeting up with Melissa at Fairlane, watching the first few minutes of On Golden Pond before it got boring. He thinks he might have kissed her first, but this morning, that kiss doesn’t matter, and neither does the one right after it. What matters is that he came home from Melissa’s house last night different. He came home from Melissa’s house last night changed.
He thinks back to the sorry excuse for a talk his father gave him last year before he moved to a new apartment in a new suburb. Frank DeLuca was loading up the moving truck when he pulled Daniel aside and said, “Don’t ever get anybody pregnant. It’ll ruin your life.” And even though he’s not the most intuitive guy, Daniel could take a hint. He knows he ruined his father’s life, just like his father ruined his own.
And maybe it was Frank’s lack of guidance and love that led him to Melissa Kaminski’s room last night when her parents were at a big fancy dinner with their colleagues. Daniel doesn’t know. All he knows is that he just wants to finish this bowl of Kix and watch Saturday morning cartoons with his sister. But he knows he shouldn’t. He can’t. Not anymore.
There’s a knock on the front door like there has been every Saturday morning since the first grade. Linda DeLuca opens the door without a word, and like always, Will and Sam burst in, smiling like they’re still kids. They’re all still kids. Daniel feels like a bomb waiting to go off.
“Hey, Daniel!” Sam says. “Will and I just got some mini-rigs from the Star Wars toy section at Kmart. We’re gonna put Luke and Threepio in ‘em and race.”
“Bring your Han,” Will says. “I lost mine.”
“You didn’t lose it. You gave it to Lucy when she said she thought Harrison Ford was handsome.”
“Loss can mean so many things.”
Last Saturday, Daniel would have jumped at the chance to play Star Wars action figures with his two best friends. This Saturday is different. This Saturday is the morning after his first date with Melissa Kaminski. Probably his only date with Melissa Kaminski. He was planning to tell Will and Sam about it when they came over, but when he sees the look in their eyes (still so excited to play Star Wars, like they’re still in fifth grade), he’s not sure they can handle it. He’s not sure they should be this excited about a fake space race.
“Can we do something else?” Daniel asks.
Will and Sam look at each other like they’re all in another universe. As far as Daniel’s concerned, they are.
“Well, sure,” Sam says. “What … what were you thinking?”
“We could go eat,” Will suggests. “Diner?”
“No, not the diner,” Daniel says. “We always do that. It’s for kids. What if … what if we went to the mall?”
Will and Sam look confused again.
“The mall?” Will asks.
“Yeah,” Daniel says. “The mall. You know, where guys our age hang out? Look for girls they like? Eat pretzels? The mall?”
“I thought the mall was only good for the movies,” Sam says.
“Daniel’s got a point about the pretzels, though,” Will says.
“This is not about movies and food!” Daniel says, feeling angrier than he has in a long time (probably a year). “This is about finally acting like we’re in high school. Now, are we going or not?”
Will and Sam look at each other again, nervous as can be. After a few seconds of telepathic deliberation (Daniel hates that they’ve always been able to do that with each other), they look at him and nod.
“Great,” Daniel says, heading off to his room to get dressed. “I don’t get why that was so hard for you.”
As he closes his bedroom door, he leans up against it and fights the urge to cry. He’s not so sure it was hard for them.
It’s just that it’s killing him.
