Going into the bg3 tag makes me feel like I’m 16 again first discovering the dragon age fandom, seeing the most moronic takes possible and having to fight my impulse not to tell people that they are extremely and worrisomely stupid and should give themselves a lobotomy for their own well being and the greater good. But of course I can’t do because I’m the nicest person in the world

My favorite 5e bitch move is taking Eldritch Adept: Fiendish Vigor on blood hunters so that they can activate their blood rite immediately after finishing a rest and don't have to worry about getting a boo-boo.

I don't think we're talking anywhere near enough as we should be about the Winter Warlock's long ass shoes from Rankin/Bass's 'Santa Claus is Comin' to Town (1970).'
This man just finished smoking an icicle while wearing shoes the length of Kris Kringle's entire leg and nobody has anything to say about this. I aspire to one day have shoes as long and thin as the Winter Warlock's icicle Jimmy Choos.

I have decided that Halsin will be related to Arán (my character from a campaign I'm playing) after a conversation with him. They're just so alike

who: @xdivinve (Elliot)
where: Aurora Stone Animal Shelter
Tumblr media
Bellamy had eaten a bountiful lunch, and now wanted to see what Dogs were like. After all Corn Dogs had been a hit, so surely dogs were also good. With this in mind they headed out to the animal shelter where they could play with as many as they wanted. Currently, they were surrounded by puppies and letting out delighted laughter as the dogs swarmed. “Oh no! A tiny army has come to attack me. I’m going down in a pile of fluffy dogs.” They exclaimed, laughing as they were knocked over and the dogs started licking their face. They were so enraptured by the dogs that they hadn’t noticed another person come into the area for interacting with the dogs. Suddenly noticing Elliot’s presence, Bell lurched up off the floor. “The dogs put me up to it.”

Friends! I have a statement regarding DnD that I feel needs a slight bit of clearing up.
Unless the DM has stated otherwise, a natural 20 is not necessarily an automatic success. It DOES mean that the best possible outcome happens, but sometimes the request is just a bit too much.
This is due to the system of a Difficulty Challenge (or DC). In essence, every action in DnD has a number attached to it that determines how easy it is to do. 1-5 means it's super easy, you're just rolling to see if you somehow fail. 6-10 is kinda difficult, but still should be simple to pass. 10-15 is getting challenging, usually requiring some skills. 15-20 is pretty hard, but still manageable for any characters.
This is where we get interesting. When making characters, you put skills into certain attributes (like any other RPG). These skills add to your roll, meaning that it's quite possible to roll higher than 20.
20-25 is very difficult, needing some specific skills. 25-30 is nearly impossible. While it is possible in some circumstances to roll higher than 30 (such as rogues sometimes hitting over 40 in stealth) it's not very often you can do that.
So, lets say that you are playing as a barbarian with a stealth bonus of 2. You find yourself in an open field, and you just alerted a group of enemies. You try to roll stealth, but due to the lack of hiding places and the fact you have already been seen, the DC is 30. You roll a natural 20, though! Which only gets you a stealth roll of 22, which is short of 30.
That does not succeed, unfortunately. However, the DM can possibly do something interesting with that, if they want. For example:
The enemies get confused when they see you try to huddle down in the grass. They stop and do a quick huddle to see what to do about the strange barbarian. The front row of enemies is racing away from you, and the back row is blocked by the front row, so you can start to run from them, or towards them. You will get some extra space for this that you wouldn't have otherwise, because your strange attempt to hide confused them for a second.
If you treat every natural 20 as a success, you are possibly going to find yourself having to bend the narrative quite a bit to accommodate that.
Every natural 1 is a failure, though. That's just the rules. Not only a failure, but it's the worst failure you can do.

Mordenkainen's Modest Abode
5th-level conjuration
Casting Time: 1 minute Range: 120 feet Components: V, S, M (a metal key and three gems each worth 10 gp each to cover first, last, and security) Duration: 24 hours
You conjure an extra-dimensional dwelling in range that lasts for the duration. You choose where its one entrance is located. The entrance shimmers faintly and is 5 feet wide and 10 feet tall. You and up to 20 creatures you designate when you cast the spell can enter the extra-dimensional dwelling as long as the portal remains open. You can open or close the portal if you are within 5 feet of it. While closed, the portal is invisible.
Beyond the portal is a 30-foot cube, which can be subdivided into two or more rooms. The dwelling is furnished and decorated as you choose. It contains sufficient food to feed all creatures who enter for one day.
A near-transparent servant attends all who enter and is completely obedient to your orders. You decide the visual appearance of the servant and their attire. The servant can perform any task a normal human servant could perform, but they can’t attack or take any action that would directly harm another creature, nor can they leave the dwelling. The servant can fetch things, clean and mend clothing, light fires, serve food, etc.
Any furnishings, food, or other objects created by this spell turn into dust if removed from the dwelling.
When the spell ends, any creatures or objects inside the extra-dimensional space are expelled into the open spaces nearest to the entrance. Succeed on a DC 15 Arcana check to recover your security deposit (one gem worth 10 gp).

Sometimes to keep my party on its toes I like to make them fight weaker enemies, in hordes, that explode with a relevant damage type. Sometimes this will kill other enemies, that also explode.
Party of 4 lvl 10's: Why are we fighting a bunch of spiders?
Same party when that spider just exploded for 2d6 psychic damage seemingly out of nowhere: DUDE WHAT TF?!?
Don't ever question me again.
