idk how many people i speak for here, but i really think april/donnie/casey’s dynamic in 2012 would’ve been so much nicer if they stopped framing april flirting with two people as a competition instead of just an unconventional relationship dynamic (aka polyam)

@dekenak had asked me if I could draw April as a ballerina.

Admittedly, I didn't really have hope it was gonna turn out good (the shoes, the 3rd drawing and also just her outfit sort of turned me off...)... But then when I was finishing up my mom came into the room and told me it looked amazing so that boosted my confidence (though she did comment about the arms being to thick- told her they were meant to be muscles)

Headcanons for when 2012 April gets her period bc I'm in menstrual hell rn:

The first time it happened at the lair, everyone thought she was dying.

After April explained it to them, Donnie researched everything he could. He's got her cycle scheduled out on a little calendar so that he can prepare ahead of time. He's always got chocolate, tea bags, hot water bottles, and pain meds ready.

April's facial features become slightly more Kraang-ish during. Specifically her pupils get more slitted, and her skin gets a slight veiny texture.

Mikey and Donnie pamper her so much. Mikey always offers to cook (whether or not she accepts he still asks), and is the first to grab the (not sentient) ice cream from the fridge. They also both keep her company the most, and try to distract her from the pain.

As much as April appreciates Mikey and Don's fussing over her well-being, sometimes they're a bit much and it overwhelms her. Usually when this happens she gets snappish at them so they leave her alone. She apologizes afterwards usually whenever she's feeling better though. Over time they learn to communicate better.

They all give her her back massages, but she prefers when Raph does it because he's the strongest and therefore can dig into her back muscles the hardest. He's afraid he's hurting her at first but she just falls asleep from how soothing it is.

Mikey thought that all humans got periods, and when he found out that only afab people do, he cursed the universe for being sexist.

Casey was a punk about it at first ("iT's jUsT cRaMpS.") but then April punched him in the gut and told him to imagine that but constantly. (He left chocolate pudding at her door later as an apology) He was better after that but still gets wary around her cause he doesn't want to get on her bad side.

Casey honestly becomes the biggest ally despite being slightly scared of April's mood swings. He's the one who gets hygiene products for the lair, and helps keep the comfort food stocked since he can go into grocery stores.

Splinter teaches her some mantras for easing the pain, and also makes her tea.

April gets like the worst cramps ever and is definitely a period puker, and it's not fun for anyone. Usually happens on day one, sometimes day 2. The pain is usually so bad that she has to just lay down and do nothing for days (Which she gets pouty about because she's April and doesn't like "feeling lazy").

The guys got her a giant, yellow rabbit plushie that Mikey named Kevin, and he's specifically for period week.

If April's not at the lair when she's on her period, Donnie takes a little care package to her apartment.

She's most likely to fall asleep leaning on Donnie or Leo. Whenever it happens they treat it like when a cat chooses you as it's perch. AKA they're stuck there for eternity or until she wakes up.

Donnie and Casey no longer try too hard to appeal to April and suddenly all 3 of them are arguing and insulting one another

It's a lot more lighthearted than the initial arguments between Casey and Donnie but they're all closer so it's suddenly a lot more personal

They are a seriously chaotic trio. Should not be left alone together

April and Donnie are best friends

I know I said platonic and then unplatoniced your rivals but I can't picture them as just friends, like either they're trying kill eachother or they're cuddling and shit

Somehow April has become the permanent 3rd wheel but like they're all cool with it-

Everyone at school thinks her and Casey are dating but neither of them really mind

Donnie likes playing with and styling both the humans hair

April had to put up with Donnie and Casey pining over one another for so long she started wondering if they were somehow more bearable when it was was her they were pining over

April is not interested in relationships at all so her third wheeling constantly is perfect for her, she feels bad sometimes but they assure her they don't mind

Donnie and April study together and she keeps him up to date on all her lessons as it's the closest he can get to experiencing school

Donnie also starts helping tutor Casey sometimes but he rarely stays focused long enough

April and Casey both have a habit of hanging out in the lab when Donnies working for various reasons

Because of this he has an emergency "no humans allowed " sign for when he needs to focus... or when he wants to annoy Casey

Casey and April are already pretty close due to being eachothers only "normal"/school friend

Casey is still a flirt to both of them but makes sure not to overstep with April

It took a while for them to all get so close after April finally sat them down and admitted she doesn't see them romantically but once they started hanging out all together they became inseparable

After a while they all started joking about it every now and then

Donnie and April have sleepovers at her apartment where they watch films together (they both nitpick and point out mistakes as they do)

I'm half asleep and it's 2am I'm out of thoughts but ragghhhhh I miss these three. They're so silly /pos

Where shall I even begin?

Pre-Tang Shen (& her death), things would be very smooth.

You had your kunoichi mom, your dad, your two ninja uncles and your grandfather - the leader of the Hamato Clan.

Hamato Yoshi would tell you many jokes and chuckle whenever you tried to copy their fighting stances and failed.

He promised to help you improve and become a skilled kunoichi.

Your mom greatly disapproved since you were only four and didn't want you to have the same life as she and her brothers had.

Now. . . When Tang Shen came along, your relationship with both your uncles became a bit rocky.

They would rarely spend time with you as they tried to capture Shen's attention.

You didn't mind with Shen, you actually liked her.

She gave you the best hugs!🤗 And was very nice to you and your parents.

But you did miss the attention from your uncles.

And you'd get extremely annoyed by their constant comments to each other and competitive behaviour.

Of course. . . Things didn't get much better after Tang Shen and Yoshi got married and had baby Miwa.

When you turned six, your parents had to go for a mission but they never returned.

You lived with Tang Shen and Miwa since Yoshi and Saki would spend most of their time at the dojo.

This was your new normal and you had grown used to it.

Until one fateful day...

The dojo was set on fire with your aunt and uncle Yoshi inside.

You heard your baby cousin crying and held her in your arms as you cried too.

You couldn't help it.

First you lost both your parents.

Then your grandfather.

And now you lost two more people you cared about in the entire world.

You promised to take care of your baby cousin.

Then. . .

You both had been taken in by your other (adoptive) uncle; Oroku Saki.

He raised you and Miwa - now known as Karai - as if you were his own children.

Saki trained you to become a fearless kunoichi.

He taught you to be merciless.

And, although you were grateful for him taking care of you, you hated it.

Every second of your training felt like bringing dishonor to your clan. Your actual clan.

You'd spend many nights awake wondering what would they think if they saw you now.

Sixteen years later⏳

You were a Foot Clan assassin with one purpose in mind.

To kill the one who murdered Yoshi and Shen.

(We all know it was Saki but he obviously lied since little you didn't see who did it.)

You hated what have you become but you lost your care a long time ago in the fire.

You and Karai where on patrol when one of these mutant turtles seemed to recognize you.

He then realized who you were and after his suspicions had been correct, he tried to convince you to come with him.

Leo, that was his name, seemed very genuine and didn't look like a person who intended to trick people.

Your adoptive uncle/father told you not to trust them but a part of you was curious.

He knew who you were despite not having met before.

After some time, the thought of something being hidden from you crossed your mind and considered Leo's offer seriously.

He led you to the lair, much to Raph's disdain, and you couldn't help but feel a heaviness in your chest with every step closer to the dojo.

When you saw your uncle; you recognized him immediately even though he was now a mutated anthropomorphic rat.

Some of his features remained the same; the kind look in his eyes, the bushy eyebrows.

You approached him slowly, holding the tears that you thought you lost.

You raised your hands to his face to feel if he was real or not.

"U-uncle Yoshi?" she stuttered out, tears of happiness streaming down her cheeks "I-is it r-really you?"

The wise rat nodded with a gentle smile. Not being able to hold back anymore, she hugged him tightly as she sobbed.

You apologised for what you've done and what had you become.

He told you there was nothing to forgive since it was Shredder's doing and not yours.

After that, you decided to stay there with them.

You didn't want to spend one more second with the man who manipulated you all these years.

The man who lied to you.

Who killed your aunt.

And used you as a weapon against Splinter and his new family.

The first turtle you got along with was Leo.

Since he was the one who told you everything.

Then it was Donnie and Mikey.

And last was Raph.

He had some hard time believing that you had actually betrayed Shredder.

Ofc you became best friends with April O'Neill and Casey Jones.

The only regret you had from all of this was not being with Karai when you decided to come.

If only she was with you then you'd all be together again.

Meanwhile

Shredder was beyond furious for your betrayal!

No. . .

He refused to believe you went with them willingly.

He thought that they kidnapped you.

That Splinter did this as revenge for taking his daughter.

Karai - not knowing what actually happened - believed her adoptive father and wouldn't rest until she had the closest thing she had to a sister back.

Back to the lair!

You'd train with the others in order to unlearn the Oroku way.

You became something like an older sister to the gang.

You'd help April train more so she could become a full kunoichi.

Expect MILLIONS of questions from Mikey and Casey about your previous life.

It was a touchy subject but whenever you'd feel comfortable enough, and share your story with them and the rest of the team - they would become more understanding.
