She had a minor role in the 1999 Star Wars film; Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace as Sabe. Her breakthrough into the acting industry was when she played Sarah Altman in the Thriller/Crime film Panic Room (2002) and went on to achieve global stardom by playing Elizabeth Swann in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series, beginning in 2003, and as Mary Winchester in the American drama series, Supernatural from 2005 to 2013.
Early Life and Education
Y/N M/N L/N was born on *day* December 1987 in Madrid, Spain’s fashionable residential area of Chamartín, Madrid to engineer F/N L/N and journalist M/N Md/N. L/N’s first relationship rumour was back in 2004 at only 17, with a childhood friend and ‘The Sixth Sense’ co-star, Trevor Morgan. Both parties denied this rumour and stated they were only close friends— siblings at most.
She dated The Amazing Spider-Man co-star, Andrew Garfield from 2011 to early-2014. The two are still great friends.
She was then linked to Narcos co-star Sebastian Vega (2015-2016) before being proven wrong when rumours and evidence of her dating co-star and long-time friend Pedro Pascal (2017) surfaced.
The pair, Pedro Pascal and Y/n L/n had confirmed their relationship via Instagram. They've been reported to have started dating in early 2015, 3-years after being introduced by mutual friend Sarah Paulson.

what’s your favorite version of rocket? for me it’s between eidos rocket and mcu rocket
this is such a great question ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶
it’s like asking “what’s your favorite star in the sky?” “which ice cream is the best ice cream?” “what flower do you prefer?” “what bird is the coolest bird?” “what cat is the best cat?”
it’s not that i don’t have a fave (i do, or at least i think i do), it’s just that im picking from such a fucken splendor of options. truly spoiled for choice. there’s no wrong answer here (although some of the comics artists have never, i think, seen a raccoon. here’s lookin at you timothy green ii).
so i’ll rank these motherfuckers but understand that i love them all differently. also im sticking to various versions of canon but honestly some of my fave rockets come from fanfiction writers like @hibatasblog, @caesarhamato22, @aliasrocket, & @elegant-fleuret ~ and what is mcu rocket or cartoon rocket or eidos rocket really but fanfiction with a budget?
anyone else who wants to share their faves and why, please do. it's so fucken fascinating to learn why certain rockets appeal to different people!
Grounded: Rocket Raccoon (2016) story by matthew rosenberg // pencil & ink by jorge coelho i love this furry bastard so much and this whole arc pulls on all my heartstrings which is probably why my first rocket fanfic was based off this storyline. he's at his snarkiest, most cynical self, still saving people in spite of how fucken thankless everyone around him is. as much as comics-rocket talks about how everything he does is for the money, i feel like this series really exemplifies his begrudging willingness to do the right thing for people even when people suck. i just wanna love on him tbh (platonically, romantically, domestically). wanna take care of him. wanna build him a blanket-fort and feed him hot cocoa. grumpy asshat
MCU's Guardians of the Galaxy (2014-2023) created by james gunn, et al. nose to tail, this rocket has the most consistent and coherent character development and we get to see so many sides of him in one long-lived arc, and it's fucking beautiful. just because of the nature of comics in general, we never get to see this much growth in any single incarnation of rocket. but here we have sad-rocket, dad-rocket, lonely-rocket, friend-rocket, baby-rocket, captain-rocket - i love him so much and what this movie has given us in terms of a fully-fleshed out character. plus we get to hear lines like "oh yeah" (you know EXACTLY what i'm talkin about) and his goddamn singing. not to mention that beautiful expressive face.... the way he moves when he's beating the shit out of ravagers... what? huh? where was i?
Rocket Raccoon: Blue River Score (2017) story by al ewing // pencil & ink by adam gorham i fucken love this comic arc. we get a lot of rocket in a suit and we get to see his impulsive behavior, his softness for otta (and by extension, his desire to love/be loved) despite their history, his cleverness in the colon and the final heist, and his relationship with gatecrasher. PLUS if you thought one sad snarky gun-wielding maniac wasn't enough, there's a subplot where rocket and deadpool team up and it's the best thing in the world. just a perfect little kiss from every five-star chef in the galaxy. i love rocket's last few lines to deadpool in this segment. perfection
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Game. (2021) by eidos-montreal and marvel entertainment. just to note: 4,5, and 6 got real murky for me in terms of figuring out how to rank these rockets. i wish i could watch this game multiple times so i could get a better feel for who this rocket is but it is SUCH an undertaking tbh. still, this rocket is so good. bitter, hilarious, sassy, isolated. i love him so much. i just want to play with his beard and also say lots of nice (occasionally naughty) things to him so he blushes really hard like in that sequence where pete was like "you deserve some praise" (i think that was the closest we've ever seen rocket to actual death, volume three included). there's a thing about rockets-in-general that i think this rocket in particular really pulls out of me: the desire to trust, and to be worthy of trust. ...that and the fact that you just know this guy is fuckin filthy. when he decides he wants you, he's gonna make you miserable in all the best ways. like, the level of teasing would be so over-the-top you might spontaneously combust before you get into bed (though luckily, he is an expert when it comes to manipulating combustibles).
Assorted other comic appearances that I've smushed into one thing in my mind. i dunno, friend. rocket who blames himself for pete's apparent death breaks my heart. rocket who thinks he's the only one of the guardians left breaks my heart. rocket who blames himself for groot's death breaks my heart. rocket who is sick and alone on halfworld like an animal crawling under the porch to die but ends up leaving inside a giant mech-suit to save his friends breaks my heart. rocket who protects chewy's kids breaks my heart even though it's supposed to be a lighthearted fucken arc. there are more.
Rocket Raccoon, Volume 2. (2014-205) story by skottie young, pencil & ink by various artists. yo. this rocket is so different and yet still perfectly rocket. he's a hyped-up little gremlin of a guy who fucks and is probably constantly high off blaster-fumes and engine-fuel. i fucken love him so much. imagine rocket with no self-confidence issues who pops caffiene pills and energy drinks every half-hour and smashes anything that can orgasm, and you've got a skottie young rocket. while other rockets might get you off because they think they've got something to prove or want to keep you coming back, this is a rocket who has learned how to use his tail solely for the fact that it's a claim to fame that means he can get laid anytime he wants. he never lacks for an excited partner (or partners) because everyone in sixty-nine systems knows how fuckin good he is. ultimately, he fucks like a god for the most (apparently) selfish, shallow reasons (and then inevitably ghosts his partners). or maybe not. maybe he's also just obsessed with the idea that anything he's gonna do, he has to do over-the-top. like planning an intergalactic scavenger hunt for your friend's birthday. ...but scrape the surface and underneath you find a guy who's just so afraid of being the only one of his kind that he's gotta fuck or shoot everything in his vicinity. what a wild little shithead. i love him so much, so much. p.s. the fron storyline - the cold, parts one and two - is one of my favorites. he loves groot so much. and princess jink is the fucken best
Guardians of the Galaxy TV Series/Cartoon. (2015-2019). i enjoyed this rocket and his gremlin ways. his fascination with duct tape is a particular point of charm. the take on his backstory was interesting. loved the episode with ja kyee lrurt - like it was so fuckin cute i could die. i need more of THAT storyline in particular.
Rocket & Groot TV Series/Cartoon. (2017) i loved this so much but it just left me wanting more (just because, you know, of the nature of this type of short-episode media). big skottie young energy. ultimately, trevor devall does a fine job but i think his voice in both this and the other cartoon make it a little harder for me to fully embrace these rockets. like his interpretation of rocket's voice just doesn't match mine, you know? and that's okay. still would rewatch 5,739 times.
how's that? i still need to watch telltale but i think i got most of the iterations in there lol. anyone i forgot, or who is worth specifically pulling out and mentioning by author/issue/edition?

the time period that’s heaviest on my mind is the final four months of 2003, August-December. it has been coming to me in flashes - Weakerthans songs, but just snippets of them, like I’ve found them briefly thru the radio static and then lost the channel. gray midwestern skies as seen thru the window of the Metra train. orange-red-yellow leaves glowing almost electric thru the gray. and when you’re standin on the fourteenth floor / you can always feel a building swayin. the cobalt-blue walls of my sometimes-bedroom. the couches and floors I often slept on. the various branches of the Chicago Public Library where I worked on my novel, did my schoolwork, wrote emails to my far-away loves; usually Merlo or Harold Washington. the cafes and bars I sat in, scribbling in my journal, writing paper letters, reading novels, reading zines written by friends. the cigarettes welded to my lips. how I was so lonesome, so sad, so free—in love with so many people but beholden to none of them, the whole world made me ache, my heart broke every day and I cried all the time but it was also one of the most intensely creative periods of my life. and of course, love. the girls and boys who made me cry, especially that unholy trinity—A., B., CT; Chicago, Cincinnati, Montreal.

I share your thoughts and feelings towards Marina... but, honestly, even Igor in certain videos gave me the creeps 😰 especially when he hugged Tess or congratulated her... really bad feelings 😰
(Answering this late too I’m sorry I’m so behind on asks)
-from when we were talking about marina/canton/2014 era
Yeah look. I agree with you. I don’t know how much though bc honestly I really do refrain from even letting myself privately think I know everything about people I really don’t know at all/more opinions based on minimal info- I just don’t have time or the brain space for that.
I had read others opinions here and there that they thought Igor was really lovely with T and doted on her kinda (thinking specifically when ever they came off the ice after skates at YVR), and yeah it seems nice enough but then I watched more of other teams and in comparable moments like that he seems very similar with every girl he coaches..
I’ve never had the biggest opinion of him either way in general- probably more so Marina bc VM have spoken more about her.
I guess if I were to share some kinda vague opinions:
-He seemed to struggle with he’s team’s results after he and Marina spit.. this is just based on going back watching stuff from that era but he had a lot of teams competing at the senior world level and there probably heaps of lower teams/juniors.. idk if it was just the media/FS fans that made this rivalry between he and marina’s teams after the split.. but even just watching kinda 2017/18 I get the slight vibe of a rivalry.. esp with the US teams bc they were kinda “equal”/ switched placements esp domestically for those 3 or so years (16-18).. idk if that’s widely held opinion, but within that 3 way rivalry, HD in Montreal -they had the momentum on the coaching end, SS on the fed end (with it being obvious Marina wouldn’t get a gold or silver at the 2018 olys she was no longer the ‘top coach’) and then CB who I honestly forget about sometimes got at world medal in 2016.. -wasn’t there a whole thing there that people thought WeaPo were under marked and should’ve medaled.. I wonder maybe bc by that point VM announced they were coming back so they (ISU) tried to keep the Canadians off the podium for another year with the very likelyhood of VM coming back and podiuming.. (idk, this sport is so messy who knows what the agenda was and Canada is an frequent victim)
Th whole DS (team nepo) skating to MR in 2022 and Igor being their coach/ choreographing it? is one of the most disgusting/effed up/ lack of respect I’ve seen. Like WTAF bro!!??!?!. Look, I know VM doesn’t OWN that music, but there are just certain things- music you don’t use when it has been made that iconic-attached to one skater/team. In comparison (just to remind everyone what precious maple leaf bbys VM are) they said they would never do bolero bc that “belongs” to T&D. They wouldn’t even do ‘Somewhere in time’ which was Marie and Patch’s 2006 program and that isn’t even famous outside of ID and probably not even a top… 15, 20 most well know ID program.. within the sport. They are just so respectful of their peers that certain music/stories they would not do out of respect. I’m sure I’ve read Igor had recycled VM’s programs/music before like I’m sure I read he had a team do Valse Triste, Farrucas, a version of the WTF lift from Farrucas, there may be more. Like when the Beijing olys were on and I was watching the ID with my mum, I had gotten her up to date on VM and of course she had remembered their FAMOUS MR from 2018, I said when team nepo came on; ‘so this team is doing MR’ (she was like ‘omg wtf why would you do that’), then ‘and their coach is VM’s former coach, not the one that they were with for MR but their former former coach, and he had a history of recycling/ripping off programs bc he’s kinda a hopeless choreographer’. And my mum lost it, she had been in love with VM for all of 2 days and about 0.00000003 percent of the love I have for VM and she was so mad about it..
-as for the creepiness thing.. I’m becoming more aware of that now that I’m not a student anymore and I’m teaching a lot of kids, I’m very aware of my body language and what I say to kids in the studio teaching and vs out of - there’s that different relationship depending on if you’re teaching or not.. and more and more with male coaches/teachers… idk.. I was very lucky growing up the majority of my dance teachers were wonderful and I had some amazing female and male teachers and I never.. like in ballet and esp high level ballet, the teacher has to be physical with you- move your body, touch you in places in order for you to understand the correct way to work. NEVER was I made to feel uncomfortable or violated, in or out of the studio (the company was a very different story). There is obviously crossing a line and things that should not be done, but in generally you have to have be a tough cookie- you might not love some things/ get along with coaches, but you have to be strong bc it’s a very tough industry. Same with skating. I believe with all my heart that T especially (I relate to her being a female in a similar sport/art as me and everything she went though more than S- but I do relate to him in so many other ways) that she was never made to feel uncomfortable, violated, abused.. BECAUSE OF SCOTT. I just believe he protected her with his life. They have since recalled moments in their career- like how T said she felt so uncomfortable around other female skaters judging her and calling her fat bc she was a strong, healthy athlete who could lift and move herself unlike these weak af twigs starving themselves. S never (I just KNOW, ok), never let her feel anything negative about herself, they could put themselves down but never each other. Of course they had arguments and feelings would be hurt, but never on the matter of personal safety. When they say they could have never been singles skaters I think that’s part of it- this duty of protection they have over each other was a lifeline in this industry. I legitimately cried when T mentioned in a podcast interview (it was a terrible one so I haven’t listed to it since) that Scott called her one day out of the blue and said they survived that industry bc of how her mum raised them- to always keep each other safe, know how to detect when/if someone was taking advantage of them, stick up for themselves and never sell their souls (or bodies) for fame and fortune.
I’m sorry this is getting wayyyyy off track (I haven’t been posting enough but I’ve been thinking a lot so im letting heaps out here even if it’s unrelated).
The point is, despite what I think about the people they had around them, they were ok, and they kept each other safe.
I could do a whole other post on how, yes Igor creeped me out a bit, but how much Romain creeps me out even more (legit shivers when I would see him with them, esp next to T- I love them both equally but I feel a super protective instinct towards T and anything I watch where I get bad vibes I’m just like ‘my angel pls be safe😭)

What do you make of where Soucisse/Firus are with their skating? On the one hand, I felt for them as they got overshadowed in Canadian skating and at IAM by some teams switching to Canada and others moving into seniors. On the other hand, I can’t say I’ve noticed much improvement or progress from S/F either. Will they qualify for Worlds this year?
they have their minimums for Worlds, so i think they're going
i had to refresh my memory, and 👀 they had good programs from Gadbois in 2017-18. that was their 2nd season together, and they won silver at 4CC (in an Olympic year, but still) and were on the Worlds team and were 14th. they had a different energy about them back then - they had a sense of hope and potential
idk why the wheels came off so soon after that - they stayed at IAM 2 more seasons til April 2020, but 2018-19 they had a misfire of an FD - does a good program with music by The Weeknd exist? it was a stretch, and maybe an attempt to be more contemporary and edgy, but it didn't play with the judges, and they look a little labored. then 2019-20 was when they had a lot of big mistakes. maybe their confidence was shaken for the reasons you said, maybe they were injured along the way? because they were recycling lifts and not getting better
when you see teams like LaLa and CPom really improving, they deserve so much credit- to increase in speed, power, skating skill, artistry, mental toughness under pressure - the closer you get to the most elite level, each step takes exponentially more understanding and growth to integrate. and it's harder to correct weaknesses after they're habitual
S/F stabilized and looked happier after they moved to Carol Lane in 2020, but i don't know that they've really changed much about their basics. and i don't think you can rise without that. their recent material hasn't been particularly memorable - the Charles Aznavour FD they're doing now is a revised version of the one they did for 2021-22. i get that Worlds is in Montreal, and Aznavour is a good fit for that, but they weren’t competing for an entire year - why aren't they skating something new?
2022 Skate America in Norwood had a really knowledgeable and supportive crowd that was warm and appreciative of the skaters, lots of love all around. so it was strange that the one team the crowd went lukewarm for was S/F. the energy left the building for them. for me, it’s hard to get a sense of who they are, and too often it looks like they're skating while music plays - sometimes it looks like the audio on their programs is off because they're so disconnected from the music. i'm glad they have new opportunities, glad when they look a little sharper in their RD, but ultimately, i find them kind of frustrating

Public Art, Vancouver (No. 2)
The Angel of Victory (French: L'Ange de la Victoire) is a statue crafted by London-born sculptor Coeur de Lion McCarthy (1881–1979), installed in Montreal's Windsor Station, in Quebec, Canada.
It was commissioned in 1922 in memory of the 1,116 Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) employees who died in World War I. Copies of the statue were also installed at CPR stations in Vancouver and Winnipeg, Canada. The Winnipeg copy has since been moved from the station, and is now located outside the Deer Lodge Hospital.
The bronze, seven foot tall statue shows a fallen soldier being carried up to heaven by a female angel. It is on a pedestal inscribed:
To Commemorate Those in the Service of the Canadian Pacific Railway Company Who at the Call of King and Country, Left All That Was Dear to Them, Endured Hardship, Faced Danger and Finally Passed Out of Sight of Men by the Path of Duty and Self Sacrifice, Giving Up Their Own Lives That Others May Live in Freedom. Let Those Who Come After See to It That Their Names Are Not Forgotten. / 1914–1918
After World War II, the years 1939–1945 were added to the inscription.
The Vancouver copy of the statue was used in a piece by Canadian street artist Richard Hambleton, who had instructed that it be released only after his death, in 2017. Created in 1974, the piece depicts the young artist in place of the fallen soldier, his body pierced by paintbrushes.

(Tradisyon | Wesliから)
Tradisyon by Wesli
WESLI EXPLORES THE ROOTS OF HIS AFRO-HAITIAN CULTURE ON TRADISYON Tradisyon is the first of a two-part project that retells the story of Haiti’s past and imagines its future. “You have to know where you’re from to know where you’re going,” says Wesli, the acclaimed Montreal-based winner of the prestigious 2019 JUNO Award. Overflowing with 19 songs, Tradisyon explores traditional chants from the voodoo religion, explosive carnival rara rhythms and lilting, folksy twoubadou songs. To prepare for his ambitious new musical project, Tradisyon, the uniquely talented Haitian-Canadian songwriter, guitarist and producer Wesli (Wesley Louissaint) had to return to his roots. He embarked on a multi-year musical pilgrimage to explore often hidden facets of Haitian traditions. Wesli traveled across his homeland, visiting lakous, gathering places and community groups for practitioners of Haiti’s voodoo religion, to learn songs in African languages brought to Haiti hundreds of years ago. He honed his skills at a wide range of local musical instruments, from powerful interlocking rara horns to intricate drums in all shapes and sizes, not to mention folk instruments such as the Haitian banjo. And he reconnected with the profound spirituality and rich life philosophy of Afro-Haitian beliefs, which represent the inspiration and motivation, indeed the very soul, of Haitian culture. The result of this ambitious research is Tradisyon, the sixth album of Wesli’s celebrated career, and the first of a two-part set that retells the story of Haiti’s past and imagines its future. The encyclopedic first album features 19 songs, original compositions and treasures from the expansive Haitian music repertoire. By drawing on these traditions, Africa inevitably emerges -- through the rara, petro, nago, congo and yanvalou rhythms, and the lyrics sung both in Creole and the African languages of Yoruba, Ewe and Fon. They are all accompanied by local instruments such as the bamboo, the kata, the segon, the boula, the manman and the banjo, an originally African instrument that had been adopted by European colonizers. Of Haitian origin and Montreal adoption––but above all a citizen of the world––Wesli is one of those rare artists capable of exploring different sounds while keeping his identity and his roots firmly anchored in his traditions. Ever since the release of his first album Kouraj in 2009, Wesli’s creativity has been unstoppable, leading to the acclaimed album Liberté dans le noir in 2011, the star-studded ImmiGrand and the more traditional Ayiti Étoile Nouvelle in 2015 and an expanded version of ImmiGrand in 2017. Only a year later, the prolific artist released Rapadou Kréyol, an exploration of African rhythms and instruments Wesli believes Haitian musical culture has neglected as it is increasingly drawn towards the commercial music encouraged by globalization. In 2019, the astonishing album was awarded the prestigious JUNO award for World Music Album of the Year. For Wesli, winning the JUNO award proved to him that the musical and cultural value he brings to the world had been accepted and welcomed, a message he hopes other young Haitian musicians will see as a sign that they too can inspire change with their craft. The Tradisyon project, named after the Haitian and African diasporic traditions it honors, is a continuation and deepening of the goals of Rapadou Kreyôl. This previous album “was something that I wanted to do for the Creole culture” Wesli explains, “but I did so much research into the culture, I felt like one album wasn’t enough.” After years spent visiting various Haitian villages, learning lyrics in new languages, and recording the album’s percussion tracks in Haiti to capture a truly authentic, island sound, Wesli returned to Montreal to finish putting the epic albums together. When asked about the immense scope of the project, Wesli reflects, “I wanted to write a story, but a story that I didn’t create, because the story has been there for hundreds of years. I’m talking about the traditions, the core elements of a great culture: the Haitian culture.” In Tradisyon and the upcoming Tradisyon, Pt. 2, Wesli accomplishes the incredible feat of weaving this magical musical story through complex and ambitious arrangements. Wesli has himself been a character in the epic story of Haitian culture. Born in 1980 to a financially challenged family of seven children in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Wesli built his first guitar at the age of eight by stringing an old oil can with nylon fishing line. His musical adventure began at a young age when he sang alongside his mother in the gospel choir of the local church. His father, Henri Louissaint, was a well-known banjo and percussion player of twoubadou, a popular Haitian folk music style. Inspired by his parents, Wesli began playing the guitar as his primary instrument along with banjo and a wide range of traditional percussion. Growing up in household that struggled to make ends meet, Wesli was often told that he had to be seven times better than anyone else to make it out of poverty. After experiencing the joyful, passionate music played around him as a child, both by his parents and his broader community, he dreamed of becoming a professional musician. He likes to say, “music chose me to share its spirit.” His own spirit was challenged at a young age, when his family fled to a Cuban refugee camp during the violence that erupted after the 1991 Haitian coup d'état. Just 11 years old at the time, this difficult experience taught him “resilience, reconciliation and forgiveness” in the face of conflict. “No matter what,” Wesli says, “you can rebuild yourself and give yourself a positive direction, and make yourself into a new person that is useful to the society that you are living in.” This desire to serve his society has driven Wesli throughout his life, encouraging him to create change and bring Haitian culture to new audiences through the power of his music. At the age of 21, the musical prodigy won a scholarship contest sponsored by the Canadian government which allowed him to study arrangement and percussion in Montreal. Since then, Wesli has made Montreal his home, a process of integrating his home culture with an unfamiliar world which he describes as difficult but transformational: “I always like to say that I have two hearts. I have one heart in Haiti and I have one in heart Montreal, and that makes me who I am now.” Wesli put both of his hearts into the making of Tradisyon. The album starts with the thrilling call of the koné, a metal trumpet used in carnival parades. The opening song “Peyizan Yo” is a rallying cry for the farmers of Haiti who form the core of the island’s economy. Inspired by arrangements of voodoo music from the 1990s, the song asks people not to steal land from the farmers, who provide the nation with its sustenance. That is followed by “Fè Yo Wè Kongo Banda,” a traditional song used in the beginning of Lakou Congo ceremonies to call the spirits to gather. Sung by a Samba, preachers of the Afro-Haitian cultural tradition, the song often begins a Capella before the entire community lifts their voices and pounds their drums in celebration. A number of the songs on Tradisyon pay tribute to legends of Haiti’s musical past. “Samba” is an homage to Azor Rasin Mapou, one of the most influential artists in voodoo culture, while the rara composition “Wawa sé rèl O” celebrates the efforts of roots musician Wawa Rasin Kanga to pull the shroud of secrecy from Afro-Haitian traditions. “Konté M Rakonté M” sings the praises of Éric Charles, one of the founders of the band Haiti Twoubadou, which in the 1990s revived the twoudabou folk music style. Tradisyon features a number of banjo-led twoubadou tracks, notably “Kay Koulé Trouba” in which Wesli describes a leaking house––a metaphor for his interpretation of the fragile condition of Haiti’s cultural values in the present day. “Makonay” is a call for unity, singing of the circle created by the coming together of people from all the provinces of Haiti who each bring their own values to create a diverse, unified culture. “Trouba Ewa” aims to elevate the twoubadou musical style by bringing together a modern lover’s story with the traditional sounds of Haitian folk music, creating a unique, captivating arrangement dedicated to present-day Haiti. The upbeat reggae-influenced song "Le Soleil Descend” was the first single of the album and its colorful video launched the Tradisyon project in June 2021. Featuring Quebec singer-songwriter Paul Cargnello. the two artists sing about uniting under the sun. As Wesli says, “The sun breaks down all cultural, social and political borders and barriers. Under this sun we are all one people because it is this same light that inspires us and illuminates our paths.” Congolese drummer Kizaba joins Wesli in “Peze Café”, which blends the igbo rhythm with the classic folk song about a child sent to buy coffee for his family before being wrongfully arrested on his way home. Sung in Haiti during the dictatorship of François Duvalier to protest military brutality, this age-old song and the parable it tells gathers new meaning and power each time it is performed. In Wesli’s rendition, his striking vocals take center stage, backed by his stripped-down guitar accompaniment and Kizaba’s expert cajón playing. Overflowing with these and other highlights, Tradisyon honors and reveals Haiti’s rich musical history. The upcoming follow up, Tradisyon, Pt. 2, explores the new directions for the island’s music, blending traditional genres with electronic music, Afrobeat, soul, funk, hip-hop and more to create a rich, festive and uniquely engaging sound. Always thinking about the future and the legacy he leaves, Wesli’s aim with Tradisyon Pt. 2 is to give young Haitian musicians a “formula to merge ancient and new sounds. We are coming from somewhere, now we are somewhere else. You have to know where you’re from to know where you’re going. Tradisyon is where we’re coming from, and Tradisyon, Pt. 2 is where we’re going.” クレジット2022年10月21日リリース
