Watched everything in 2x because I'm still reeling from prev ep, everyone's busy preaching and talking politics and shit and some of them are right but it pisses me off there's not a single character who'd think from the perspective of that poor little darling who is getting bedded without her consent with every wasted second. Well, Luo Qingyang and Dingzhi do but it's not like they are given that much of screentime.

I can understand that all the parent/grandparents gen are thinking about the "bigger picture" and their priority is to keep their giant families safe before anything else but it wouldn't take much effort for at least one of them to say ONE sympathetic line about Wenjun. Almost all the caring lines that came from everyone had been for Dingzhi, for losing his girl and not about how WENJUN is being taken against her will. Other than LQY and Dingzhi, only Dongjun asked: "Does she want to marry the Prince? If not, I'm in for the fight".

AND AFTER THE FAILURE THAT WAS ABOUT IT

Dingzhi is still alone, his only option is bidding time for 2 yrs till his power grows. And that too only thanks to two kind monks, one of which an old man and the other a literal child. Great. Just great.🥲 If noone else feels pressed enough to help shorten that time might as well just make a casket for the pieces of Wenjun's permanently broken soul by then.

Don't quote "butbutbut in historical times that's what it was like, nobody cared for what an insignificant girl thought" at me.

1. Don't bulk insult ancient people. They were perfectly capable of recognising injustice in matters like this and speak up against it, it's just that it wasn't a winning game most of the time. It's up to the storytellers to decide if you'd have a SINGLE character who'd provide a feminist pov.

2. This is not even a period drama anyway. Period. The storytellers have even less excuse now.

So you had six children already, and though you said you were besotted with Wenjun for a while now, you created your sixth child barely two months before marrying her. I'm all for polycules and would even enjoy harems in period settings where it's almost always difficult to not have power imbalance and have 100% happy partners all around, as long as it's shown mutual respect was present and sufficient effort was put in for all the relationships. But here?

Your first wife is freshly pregnant and you weren't patient enough to wait and earn the second wife's consent, I hope your dick rots and falls off.

I finished rereading Still Waters, what a story... what wonderful writing. Mollie is part of me and I am trapped in her universe, her room, the window that looks out to the sky and the roof where she sees the church. I stopped my regular readings because I discovered ao3 and the Peaky multiverse on this site. I've been reading some Tommy x OC fics but yours... oh, yours really grabbed me. I don't know what I'm going to do when this story ends (yes, I suffer in anticipation haha)

That said, I have three questions!

I saw that you describe the smells perfectly well and I think that's fantastic! What current (or not so current) perfume do you think Mollie would wear these days? And Tommy?

The third question is: will the next update come out soon? I'm holding back before reading Heartbroken because if there's a kiss between them in there, I feel like I'm betraying my own expectation for the kiss in Still Waters.

1- Mollie would definitely be a clean, subtle scent. Le Labo’s Rose 31 and Jo Malone’s Wild Bluebell come to mind.

2- Tommy inevitably conjures dark, smoky feelings--so something like Le Labo’s The Noir 29 and Tom Ford’s Oud Wood.

Honestly, I’m not sure, which I think is the right answer as right now I’m in 23-year-old Abbie headspace and she’s not sure at this point. It would have been on her mind - there was a time there was a very real possibility she’d have to have Draco’s kids, and at the start of PSII it’s 2003, a year after same-sex adoption was legalised, so it’s now a possibility where before it wasn’t. (I’m going off the wizarding world laws following muggle laws for this.)

But even if she did want kids, she’s pretty much a third parent to April and Ariadne, as the age gap is wide enough that she could reasonably be mistaken for their mother (note to self: scene where someone mistakes the twins as being her kids) — she’ll be 29 when they start at Hogwarts and 36 when they graduate.

So overall I’m leaning towards she’s not sure at the moment but in the long run I don’t think she will. She’s more of the cool lesbian aunt with lots of disposable income if and when the twins have kids of their own (which at least one of them will, we gotta keep the Snape genes going 🦇)

And Sev would be an amazing grandfather! He’d be amazed that he lived long enough to have any grandkids, and he would absolutely be the type of grandad who was strict with his own kids but spoils his grandkid(s) rotten and lets them get away with absolutely anything 🥲

1. Do you prefer writing one-shots or multi-chaptered fics?

One shots are more immediately satisfying, but finishing a multi chapter fic feels more satisfying long-term… I think I PREFER multi-chapter fics because they’re more likely to completely surprise me with where they go, so it’s really cool to experience!! But… I waste a lot of time thinking about the WIPs I never finished 😅

14. how do you write emotional scenes? Do you ever feel what the characters feel? Do you draw from personal experiences?

Through tears 😂 I definitely feel what they feel, and I am of the firm belief that it’s impossible to write anything without at least some of your personal experience directing what you put on the page. Even if the actions are all foreign, the emotions are familiar. Maybe they’re punched up a lil bit 😉 (but tbh I feel pretty intensely, I was the Crier in my acting classes) the hard part for me with emotional scenes is actually writing it down cause sometimes I dissociate imagining the scene and I realize I’m paragraphs ahead of what I’m actually writing 🤦

26. Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?

Oh Closing the Space (Between Us) 1000% I had NO idea where that would go when it started and wow the thing that happens after chapter 29… I won’t speak further on it in case of spoilers but…. Yeah. I’m very proud of it 🥲 I wish things didn’t disappear so fast in the online sphere. Ah well.

Definitely fanfics. You have to abide by so many different rules in order for it to fit the fanfic narrative, while maintaining the characteristics of the character you’re actually writing.

Yes and no. I don’t have a beta reader specifically, but sometimes I’ll have Hannah or Jamie read through things just to make sure I haven’t missed a grammatical error.

Past-tense writer, but I read both frequently!

My whole family know that I write original stuff, but only my mom knows I write fanfic. My best friend from school knows about it too.

34. How did you find the magical world of fanfics?

I was nine years old and I’d gotten my first iPod. I was really into Star Wars at the time and I somehow came across fanfiction.net when googling niche things about Obi-Wan Kenobi. I’d be reading short Star Wars stories for a year by that point, and I didn’t realise that this was something that people did internationally. I didn’t start posting until I was 13, mainly because at 9 I was too young to understand the internet properly (my internet use was never monitored now that I think about it), but I’ve been reading for 10 years now.

35. What is your favorite review?

I have a bunch- I couldn’t just pick one!

Also Hannah creates full on documents covering what she likes about my fics, and I love all of them.

36. Did you ever delete a work of yours?

I’ve deleted every single one of my cringe Star Wars fanfics from the age of 13-15. I remember they used to have so many supporters on FF.Net, but they were absolutely horrific. I’m ashamed.

i’m taking a break from art homework because i’ve been rewatching season 1 of burst in the background and i have once again developed Opinions 🥲

i’m the (or at least a) Music Guy, right? that’s sorta my schtick, especially irl (maybe less on here?). i like the beyburst soundtrack, doubly so for the first season—been meaning to transcribe some of it at some point, maybe over the summer! anyways, i just finished episode 20 and, uh. this is the first in (maybe, depending on what other hot takes i come up with) a few posts about that.

remember xhaka’s theme? leitmotif? whatever you wanna call it? The Piece Of Music That Only Really Cropped Up When He Was About To Kick Someone’s Shit?

ok, but do you remember how Completely Fucked Up the first 2 sections (the only ones used in season 1, from what i remember) of it are? if you really want to see what i’m saying, pull up episode 21. it’s right at the start of the last round from the team battle; timestamp is around 16:55. try keeping time with a consistent beat. hit it in downbeats, triplets, sixteenth notes, or whatever. or, even better, pull up a metronome and set it based on that initial tempo from the first few beats. you’re gonna see pretty quickly what i’m talking about, yeah? how sooner or later, it’s gonna be off to the point where the beat isn’t even close to lining up? (i’m not talking about the second section. even in the first one, it does this. i thought it would work if i subdivided the notes?? but even then, something‘s still off. )

i was just sitting there working on my stuff, and i tend to sorta do SOMETHING to keep time when background music exists. clearly, that did not work. CLEARLY, this part of the soundtrack is Really Weird. i can’t even figure out what fucking time signiature(s) it’s in—i’m guessing it changes every so often, but WHERE? where, beyblade? where does it change? i thought i could narrow it down if i counted it in triplets, but that would require some bullshit too. i really want to try transcribing the sheet music for this because i’m sure that’d Make It Make Sense, but until then i really don’t know.

***side note: in episode 27 of chouzetsu, there‘s an extended version at around 14:26. i am not complaining about that because, from the third section until around the end, it is Fine And Normal. you could probably feel it in a fast 4 instead of a moderate 2 and everything would work out alright on paper.***

not to get too literature teacher-y on you guys, but i have a working idea as to WHY it‘s the way it is. pretty sure it’s like a more abstract representation of the inherent unpredictability and lack of stability that come with (any) xcalibur and any strategy you could possibly formulate using it. like, for season 1, there’s the whole double ended launcher thing. the fact that the longer side hits harder but is less likely to make contact at all. in general, the way it’s off balance and sorta just moves haphazardly when the heavy point on the layer and disc line up, but that‘s also what makes it hit the hardest. every move you could possibly make will end in some sort of unstable movement, and that’s reflected by how…odd this theme in particular is. it stabilizes later on in chouzetsu, which is also at the point where there’s less of a gamble involved because, hi, hello, 5th Impact Is a Thing That Exists. you land a hit with that, and you’re pretty much guaranteed a burst finish—which is pretty much what happened. (the drums towards the beginning were sort of weird too, but i think they worked well considering everything else.)

overall, despite everything i just said, i actually really like the theme :] getting a lot of masked man mother 3 vibes, but i hope this one isn’t in 29/16 😓 but i’m a sucker for weird music shit, especially in a lower tenor-ish range :))) SPEAKING of which, is it pandering if i say it would sound good with some trombone? am i biased? either way, i think some scoops/glisses/growls/Extra Flavor coming from a Really Grimy Sounding Trombone (fast air, rough sound quality, shut up you guys i’m not just saying this because i‘m a jazz trombonist i promise <3 ) would be a great move.
