DAY #15: 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭

ugh this is gonna be hard for most without going back through their entire discography, but I'm gonna try me best here. I want to point out that I have always, since getting into rock and metal as a middle schooler, been deeply more prone to recognizing and remembering guitar work and obviously the vocals; it's not a conscious choice, it's just what my brain does, but it does make this a much more difficult question for every single thing besides guitar. So, I'll start with guitar!

So my mind could possibly change if I listened to everything again, however I am pretty fucking confident in that for guitar, it's "Mutter." More than anything else, it's that fucking refrain; it sounds entirely overflowing with wrenching pain and sorrow to me, and I cannot BELIEVE Reesh has said he wrote that shit for a wedding, like bitch it makes me want to cry without vocal assistance to set the vibe, holy fucking shit who died at that wedding??????????????? It will regularly give me goosebumps when I listen to the song.

Okay, second-easiest (I think, lol). For Flake's keyboard work, I'm a BIG fat lover of his performance in "Weit weg." I adore synthwave-style musical works, and this sound is just so classic and really does it for me. I think it also helps that I recently binged it for like, a full day for no reason other than it was stuck in my head real bad lmfao

All right, next one: bass. This is one of those more difficult ones, because I think like a great number of people, the bass is astronomically harder to single out in heavier music, unless it's basically the only thing playing (which we stan hard as fuck I wanna hear my Boy), and because of this, I took the time to listen to some bass covers of various tracks to have the sound singled out more, and now, I think I'm going with "Stripped." It's a head-bobber to me!

... aaaaand the hardest: drums. I want to scream from the fucking rooftops that this is no disrespect or disregard for Schneider, he is a vital member of the band that I adore, and drums are so instrumental in establishing the beat of songs, it's just that this is the one instrument that for some reason, my brain doesn't seem to latch onto and remember when I think of the song? It's completely indeliberate, I hear it and it just slides off my smooth-ass brain. 😭 I hate it because I love our dilf drummer so very much, so like this makes me feel so rude and as if I don't care for his part in the band, which couldn't be further from accurate; I reiterate, he's vital, as much as everyone else. All that being said, this is the instrument I am least confident about when picking a favorite, but like for Ollie, I visited a big chunk of songs that made me think "wait I think the drum performance is strong here," so take this one with the biggest grain of salt: I think I'm going with "Eifersucht." I like the fast pace of the drum in this one, and it's super rhythmic, and that's... all my non-drum-intellectual ass has got, lol. I'm that kid critiquing shit they don't know about right now.

31 days Rammstein challenge - Day 23 - Favorite Rosenrot song

Listening through the albums to choose my favorites, i realized that for the Rosenrot songs i have somewhat less strong feelings then for others, so the choice was somewhat easier this time (more so because 'Spring' was already mentioned in another post 😊)

Very strong song, particularly like the live versions from the Made in Germany small stage but ofcourse the music video helps a lot too 😊

and the Making of, where watching again now i just realized that in this Making Of the guys themselves aren't interviewed...i thought that only started with the 2019 video Making Of's

still enough to enjoy...obviously...

With the guys going about their business in their bathrobes (probably at some point dropping those altogether 😊)

but i have one question... if they ever do a similar one...where does one apply for the job of putting the white dots in the interesting places...asking for a friend 😇

ok this song is so perfect I had to go with it. tom stuck some of the sweetest lines in there.. just makes me 🫠 but it's also so real. it's not like. love is some magic fairy dust cure-all y'know. it's a choice and it's not always easy but in the end we'll make it. veryyy underrated as a love song tbh

Day 9 - Top 3 songs that didn’t appear on albums

1) November Nights

All I have to say is ugh. The first version I heard was the electric, folk-rock and more upbeat one - and, fittingly, I remember listening to it on a grey mid November day last year, while the rain was pouring down around me - but as far as this song is concerned (unlike my third pick for today) I’m going with the acoustic version because it captures that nostalgic, bittersweet vibe oh so perfectly. Lyrically, I think it’s just one of his best ever songs and makes me so sad we didn’t get a ton of stuff written in his folkier style because this proves he was so amazing at it: every line’s a masterpiece and feels like the piece of a puzzle slowly unravelling before our eyes ears. It’s also endlessly moving.

2) The Last Thing on My Mind

I don’t even know what to say, everything about this is so beautiful. His voice 😭

3) I Just Can’t Take It Anymore

Okay, as anticipated, I have to go electric here! Also a “break up song” if you will, but such a vastly different atmosphere compared to November Nights it’s actually pretty comical to think about and obviously the fun, upbeat approach fits this a lot better. Only wish it was recorded a little better, then again I’ve gotten used to much worse thanks to this guy and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

DAY #22: 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 "𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐬𝐞, 𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐬𝐞" 𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐠

it's technically "stein um stein," but i've already listed this one as my favorite song overall in day one, so i'm excluding it here. i came to find by looking through the track list that i enjoy most songs off this album at a very similar, almost equal level, and i've decided that i want to boil it down to two: "los" and "morgenstern."

i've only been exposed to this song in the past year, so me picking it may have something to do with it being fresher for me, BUT ALSO i just think it's SO fucking good?????? and unique?????? i'm super into the guitar in this track, and i also just love the creative use of the suffix "-los," it's just fun to me.

"morgenstern" is an absolute CLASSIC for me; i've adored it since i was in high school, so much so i literally drew a picture once inspired by it (leave my emo teenage ass alone god i hesitated to link lmfao). i think it tells a heartbreaking but very real story about people with negative self-images; we so often see ourselves in ways no one else ever would, and i love how the track ends. also just a big ol' fan of opera-esque vocals brought into metal/rock music.

31 days Rammstein challenge - Day 22 - Favorite Reise Reise song

Now favorite song for this one is a different matter, there are several songs i like (some i like a little bit less, although i honestly don't think Rammstein ever published a bad song in their lives), but i managed to work some of the songs in in previous challenge posts (Morgenstern, Keine Lust), so for this post i'll go with, again, the title song

Reise Reise

A heavy song, perfectly fitting Till's vocals, the epic lyrics with "und die Wellen weinen leise" (and the waves cry quietly), this has always been one of my favorites, but for some reason i don't listen to it as much these days anymore as i used to...maybe because i listen to a lot of Rammstein via Youtube videos nowadays, and this one hasn't been played live for two touryears now (2019 and 2022), but when i hear it again, like now, while listening through the albums again to pick favorites, it dawns on me what a great song this actually is ❤️

Let me up, the forgotten album lol. I think it deserves better! Partly because it doesn't (to me at least) sound like anything they did before. Or after for that matter.

Mike actually cowrote almost half of the songs on the album. I'm pretty sure that's the most of any of their albums?? And of course he cowrote the three I chose (which WAS unintentional BTW. it just makes sense).

Anyway. Runaway trains my beloved, accused of sounding too much like boys of summer. I don't know about "too much" but maybe I hear it? Like very slightly? Either way, I love them both. For good reason! They're good songs and that's all there is to it!!

Well, I totally skipped the morning as I woke up at 12, and then helped my mother fry stuff (and I am terrified of frying oil, I've had my burning experience) and then had breakfast... lunch... I ate. The day felt short. It's 2AM of 2 Jan now. I texted Sid and it didn't feel awkward. Poor boy.
