Day 8: Favorite Kiss and Cry moment
Tumblr media
I really love Yuzu’s reaction to breaking 100 in the SP for the first time, it just makes me feel so proud, ya know?  He looks thrilled.  Over the moon.  Brilliant reaction to a brilliant and well-deserved score.
Bonus: this moment is also one of my favorites

Day 24 - Favourite Jump Performed by a Skater
Yuzuru Hanyu’s 3A (and all of his axel jumps, tbh) - including but not limited to: back counter entry ‘triple axel out of nowhere’, 4T+3A sequence, the twizzle sandwich, the delayed single axel.
The last one from the GPF 2019 gala especially is a gem - that entire performance was a masterpiece and everyone should watch it.

Day 19 of ✨ @anythinggoe‘s 31 Days of Figure Skating  ✨
Today: Most Dramatic Figure Skating Moment
Yuzuru Hanyu calling for Shoma Uno at the 2019 World Championships Men’s Medal Ceremony
I didn’t want to make this about scoring controversies at first but I’ve already used the dramatic Worlds 2018 for the programme that makes me cry and then I remembered this Yuzuru moment... It’s amazing to me that he shouted for Shoma so publicly with the other two medallists right there a few metres away, he completely stunned me. As @shomasuno wrote, Yuzuru is the “#1 shoma uno stan”.

Day 8: Favorite Kiss and Cry moment
Well this one was a no brainer, between Tessa/Patch and Scott/Marie-France mirroring each other, the Tessa and Scott’s embrace to Marie-France and Patch joy and pride. Best and most deserving K&C moment.

Day 17 - favourite skating program from the 80′s, 90′s

Gordeeva/Grinkov - 1988 OG FS - Classical medley
Difficult to choose more than one, but a program I have not mentioned yet is Gordeeva and Grinkov’s 1988 Olympic free skate. In itself, not as good as their Moonlight Sonata, but the execution!…
Like the commentator says, they were floating on thin air during the whole routine. Also opening the FS with Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony is a great choice. The music is just so… them. It’s young, fresh, uplifting, and I wish more skaters would use it.

Day 8 :: Favorite Kiss & Cry Moment
(Yes this gif is from my head cradle gifset)
I love this k&c for so many reasons. The innocence of it all. The pure joy and reverence of their first worlds medal together. The anticipation on all of our parts who came after 2008 and got to experience this later knowing what the future was going to hold for these two kids.

31 Days of Figure Skating: Day 2 - Favourite Olympic Performance
In a surprise to absolutely nobody, this is unquestionably Mahler for me. Watching the live broadcast made me feel like I ascended to another plane of existence, and I don’t think any other program has ever inspired quite that feeling. Takes my breath away to this day:

31 Days of Figure Skating - Days 4, 5, and 6
I’m posting all of these together because I missed a few days; the power went out and i had no wifi for a while and was unable to post, oops
Day 4: A Skating Program That Makes You Cry
Tumblr media
Okay, I know this is probably a really common answer, but Yuzuru Hanyu’s Hope and Legacy from Worlds 2017 has the most potential for tears from me.
It’s just such a tender and emotional program.  Every movement is so graceful and assured.  Each bit of choreography is meaningful.  I feel like every single moment of this this program is specifically tailored to bring out the waterworks.
Also, at this competition, the stakes were high and Yuzuru wasn’t in the prettiest position going into the free, but I think this just pushed him to bring out his best. At Helsinki, Yuzuru’s performance was so beautiful, so touching, I really can’t help but cry when I watch it.
Day 5: A Skating Program That Makes You Happy
Tumblr media
There are lots of programs that make me happy, obviously, but one particular program that stands out is Javier Fernandez’s Man of La Mancha.
I’ve watched this program so many times.  Each time, it lifts my mood so easily.  Javi’s just got this natural charm that makes you so very fond of his skating.  Also, this program helped him win that Olympic medal he wanted so badly, so it’s very special to me.
Man of La Mancha is super effective at displaying Javier’s charisma and ability to win over the audience.  Also, it’s super well done and it fits him really well.  Overall, I just love watching this program and I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of it.
Day 6: Favorite Classical Music Program
Tumblr media
Haha I bet you all saw this coming.  But yes, Yuzuru’s Ballade No. 1 is an absolute masterpiece and definitely my favorite program set to classical music.
It’s such a beautifully crafted program.  Yuzuru’s interpretation of the music is incredible, especially since it’s freaking Chopin.  Everything he does matches the structure of the music, and all of it looks so effortless.  The step sequence is obviously one of the main focuses of the program, and despite the complexity of the part he uses for it, he’s always right on time with the notes during the footwork.  It’s incredible.
Yuzu’s Chopin is truly a work of art.

Day 29 - a retired skater/team you want to see make a comeback:
1. Tatsuki Machida - it’s probably not going to happen but I can dream? I chose this video (below) despite its lower quality than the higher quality Japanese commentary ones just so English-speakers can hear this commentary about him - absolutely gushing over this short program. This is right after Yuzuru set the world record at the Olympics being the first to get over 100 points in his short, and here we see Tatsuki getting over 98 points, which comes so incredibly close and is so high for this time. Spoiler alert: he placed first in the short at this competition. Here is his flawless East of Eden SP:

2. Stéphane Lambiel - I know he is a beloved coach right now, but I would LOVE to see him come back and do either Ice Dance or Pair Skating! He would be so good at it. Hey, Daisuke Takahashi did it! - and hey, I wouldn’t mind a team of the two of them! but ISU wouldn’t be able to handle that. ;)

Day 30 of ✨ @anythinggoe‘s 31 Days of Figure Skating  ✨
Today: A Program You'd Show to Someone Who's Never Watched the Sport
Wenjing Sui & Cong Han / Rain, In Your Black Eyes / 2019 World Championships
I actually have been in a situation where I was showing this programme to a classroom of students for a research project. And I can testify, it’s brilliant as an example for people who have never seen figure skating. It’s impressive: they showcase the dare-devilry of jumps and lifts just as much as the beauty and technicality of the other elements. The music and the choreography create a great atmosphere building up to a crescendo and they portray an interesting narrative without being heavy-handed or literal. And a bonus for me personally: I love this programme and their spin position in gif 5 is probably the only pair spin position I genuinely enjoy in the whole field (the other ones I tolerate or dislike).
