Insanely outdated 2000's sex comedy starring Josh Hartnett as Matt, a ladies man struggling to get over a bad break up. He decides to give up sex and jacking off for the 40 days of lent which is made harder when everyone finds out and starts placing bets on what day he will give out. The office ladies start throwing themselves at him and at the same time he starts to fall for Erica (Shannon Sossamon), a nice broad he meets in the laundry place. Can Matt go 40 days without scaring off Erica and without cumming?
No, he gets raped while sleeping by his ex girlfriend on day 40 and no one really addresses it or even reports it to the police. Matt then apologises to Erica (for being raped) and its swept under the rug.
To say this films aged poorly is a huge understatement but had some funny bits and the romance angle was enjoyable. Matt being set on fire and also falling over the hydrant was so dumb but had me laughing. Was good to see a young Maggie Gyleenhall and Road Trip Rubin in supporting roles. Film escalates slowly into complete madness, its too one dimensional at points as some of the same jokes repeat to often. Very strong 2000's vibes. Not bad.
Josh Hartnett said in an interviewed he tried the 40 day challenge himself and lasted two weeks.
