Y/n was slumped on the couch in the apartment. Gabrion comfortably laying on her chest with his head in her Neck. He was now barely 3 months old.
A tired single mom took Y/n by surprise, she wasn't expecting it to be as hard as it was. With her and Miguel's stable income over the years, Y/n had enough funds to stay afloat for a while without work.
She hadn't told Miguel she was pregnant before he died, which meant that she gave birth only a few months after his death.
She delicately traces small circles on her sleeping babies cheek.
"Miguel, if only you could've seen our squishy babies face, you'd practically never leave his side." the thought of watching Miguel as a dad made her smile.
Quietly she stood up and walked back to the crib and sat little Gabrion down. Leaving him with a delicate kiss on his head she walked back down the hallway.
Walking through the holographic wall, she found herself in the room with all Miguel's suits and her self made red suit.
She looked down at her fist then clenched it tightly.
"I know I shouldn't have taken the serum when I was pregnant, but there's no excuse now."
She walks to the desk, crouches down to a drawer in the desk.
An eye scanner makes quick work of Y/n's eye and the drawer opens. A small burst of smoke leaks from the drawer onto the ground as Y/n takes hold of a green liquid tube.
She brings it up to her arm with her sleeve pulled off her shoulder. A small hesitation stops her for a split second before she places the cold metal onto her skin.
Getting it over quickly she hits the button making the syringe blast spider serum into her veins. Steadying herself with a hand on the desk she yells in pain.
Her pupils dilate suddenly and her mouth opens to two fangs growing from her canines.
Breathing heavily she drops the syringe and looks down at her hand on the table. Claws had punctured the surface of the desk.
"Well that's new?"
As if on cue, Lyla appeared to explain.
"The first time you took the Serum it didn't have much effect, mostly because at the time there were two bodies to share the serum, yours and Gabrion. Another reason being Miguel didn't just use the serum."
Y/n Sighs.
"I know, he had the entirety of Alchemax's chemicals and machinery to try and fry himself half to death!"
"Exactly! But since then he's refined it, Miguel didn't need to take it as frequently as you do. His situation was more permanent, while you've only taken it twice. And it can wear off!"
Y/n takes the vile from the ground and rolls it back and forth in her palm.
If she wanted to keep protecting the city and Gabrion, she'd need to take the serum constantly.
~back to present ~
The next month slipped by fast. Y/n would go home to check up on Gabrion every so often but often had a baby sitter to watch him while she was in the spider society base.
Throughout the entire month, she tried to be near Miguel as much as she could, slowly getting addicted to the feeling of warmth she felt with him.
She watched missions, studying techniques the other Spiders used. Also watching other anomalys get captured and brought back to headquarters.
"For this one I'll take chica roja. (Red girl)" Miguel said watching the anomaly alert on the headquarters monitor .
Hobie nudges Y/n's arm pulling her from her thoughts.
"I think thats you, mate."
Y/n is immediately stiff and quickly protests.
"Wait! I'm not experienced! I literally just got used to being in this dimension!"
Miguel looks her right in the eyes though the mask and she swallows heavily.
In a second he shoots a web in her direction, she's quick to jump to the side out of the way, followed by continues back flips knowing Miguel's webs can turn corners.
Once the web hits a crate she jumped behind she does a perfect summersault and lands on her feet.
"See." Miguel's deep voice makes her jump.
She looks back to see she'd landed inches in front of Miguel, his folded arms almost touching her back.
"You'll be fine." he turns away giving the blush a moment to crawl up Y/n's cheeks. His voice still tickling her ears.
"Here, this will be your official enlisting." Y/n looks down at the official Dimension Travel watch in Miguel's hands.
'A Mission with me and Miguel alone.' she thought.
Looking back at Gwen and Jess, they give her a thumbs up letting Y/n feel a little bit of relief.
"Will this mission be a long one?" she questioned while swapping out the day pass watch out for the permanent one.
"No, They usually aren't."
He walks to the side and opens a portal to the earth with the anomaly on it.
"You coming?"
An excitement bubbles though Y/n's body for her first mission causing her to skip a little when she jumps head first into the portal.
A very small giggle comes from Miguel as he watches her goofy excitement. He follows right behind her closing the portal.
After they'd left Hobie stood dumbfounded before blinking a few times. "Did that old bloke just have a chuckle, or am I imagining things?"
Gwen and Jess knowingly, fall into a Laughing fit leaving Hobie with more questions.
On the other earth, Y/n lands on a typical Spider-man pose and Miguel appeared behind her.
They landed in a foggy rocky plains with small huts built on the sides of the cliffs. They seemed to be quite high up on a mountain top.
"According to Lyla, this is an Indigenous universe. Our anomaly is close. Be Careful!"
Y/n nods before the mask retracts its from around her ears.
Miguel lifts his eyebrow.
"What are you-"
"Shh!!" Y/n puts her hand over his mouth.
"Spider-bat taught me this."
Miguel pinches her tiny wrist compared to his and pulls it off her mouth. Y/n was too deeply focused she didn't notice Miguel's thumb rubbing over her hand before letting go.
Using Spider-bat's advice, Y/n listens closely to the echoing sounds of rocks falling and overall cool atmosphere trying to hear something. She gasps and her mask covers her ears back up.
"There! I might be wrong but, I hear electricity?"
Miguel nods and the sound gets closer. From the foggy plain a few bright zaps of electricity, coming off a large black goop.
"¡Mierda!" Miguel swears
"It's a venom."
Y/n bites her lip and nods. "An electric venom. Looks like this venom's body is made from a electric conductor."
Miguel jumps to action quickly, shooting a web in Venom's direction.
Venom is quick to stretch his body to the side avoiding the web then sending his arms stretched out to grab Miguel. Miguel jumps high enough to avoid Venom's grasp.
Running up to Venom, Y/n delivers a elegant side kick into venom's jaw, which he dodges then quickly grabs Y/n's leg with his tongue.
Y/n shudders at the gross slimy feeling and she's slammed into the rocky ground.
Making use of his speed, Miguel uses his talons and cuts right through Venom's extended tongue.
Y/n waits till he passes between them, then kicks Venom in the face.
Flying back Venom screeches in pain when his tongue drips with black blood. Seconds after tho, his tongue grows back earning a small chuckle from Venom.
Y/n growls looking around for another plan.
'We need to tie down the host, then, we could immobilize Venom!'
"Miguel! Catch!"
She shoots her web toward him which he catches like a rope.
He tries to figure out what she's trying to do, only to realize after she ran around Venom on the far side of Miguel.
He smirks and does the same, running around Venom and jumping over Y/n's crossed lines.
Venom let's out one last dramatic yell before it fades into Eddie Brock's voice. This Eddie had glowing robot like eyes and glowing electric veins.
Dusting off her hands she laughs at their victory until Miguel clears his throat.
He lifts his hands that are unfortunately still stuck to the spiderweb causing Y/n to laugh and use her claws to free him.
They both look at Eddie who has fallen to his knees. Miguel's mask dissappears and a happy smirk appeares.
"Well, for a first mission, that was pretty good, Mariposa."
Y/n's body freezes with her head looking down.
"What did you call me?"
Miguel looked down confused at his own words. Turning to the front Y/n with Eddie behind him.
He looks at her once again with very unsure eyes, like he was working it out, or maybe he was finally confirming the suspicions he didn't realize he'd been avoiding.
Looking down at Y/n he lifts his hand to her cheek guiding her face to look at him.
"You can't be-"
A sudden splatter of blood hit Y/n's face when Miguel's eyes widen to look down at the spike formed from Venom's goop sticking out of his chest.
Y/n suddenly saw that night in their living room again, Miguel's eyes loosing life and his mouth leaking blood, a hole in his chest she wasn't able to keep pressure on because her strength left her arms.
Miguel fell to the side when venom forms back around Eddie, the webbing slipping off the slippery body.
Y/n felt her heartbeat in her throat and ears, this couldn't happen, not again!
Y/n's claws appeared on her fingertips and she lunged forward toward her enemy. Black goop flying through the air in tiny bits as Y/n clawed her enemy into bits.
Shrieking from Venom mixed with Eddie's screams when her claws hooked onto his ribcage and ripped it from his body.
Miguel lay on the ground watching with blurry vision. Lyla talking to him was barely audible.
A storm was brewing on the mountain top and rain started falling and then pouring.
Finally Y/n stood over a mutilated body with bloody claws and a heaving body.
A blurry orange portal appeared before Miguel loses his consciousness completely.
"Y/n! Y/N!"
Jess Yells finally getting Y/n's attention.
She watches a few Spiders carry Miguel off on a stretcher and tries to run to him.
Jess stops her immediately with a hand on her chest.
"Y/n, we... We need to get that off you first."
Y/n looks down at her hands, not only blood, but bits of symbiote that could easily infect another host, Miguel just because he's vulnerable!
She stumbles back a bit, not looking away from her hands before starting to tear up, realizing what she'd done.
"Jess, I'm sorry, I-I didn't mean to! I'm sorry!"
Jess quickly cups her face stopping her ramble then gives her a reassuring smile. Y/n drops her hands to her sides and Jess brings her into a comforting hug.

Lightweight Stainless Steel: Advancements in Strength-to-Weight Ratios
Stainless steel has long been recognized for its exceptional durability and resistance to corrosion. However, the traditional image of stainless steel often conjures thoughts of heavy, industrial-grade materials. In recent years, there have been significant advancements in the development of lightweight stainless steel, which have revolutionized various industries. In this blog, we will delve into the world of lightweight stainless steel, exploring its properties, manufacturing processes, and the remarkable impact it has had on the strength-to-weight ratios in modern engineering.
The Versatility of Stainless Steel Plates and stainless steel Sheets
Before we delve into the lightweight variants of stainless steel, it's essential to understand the role of stainless steel plates and sheets in various applications.
 Stainless Steel Plates and Sheets
Stainless steel plates and stainless steel sheets are fundamental building blocks in many industries. They are crafted from high-quality stainless steel, an alloy known for its resistance to corrosion and staining, making it ideal for a wide range of applications. These applications include kitchen appliances, architecture, automotive components, and industrial machinery, among others.
 Manufacturing Stainless Steel Products
The process of manufacturing stainless steel products involves several crucial steps:
1. Melting and Refining: High-quality raw materials are melted and refined in furnaces to create a homogeneous stainless steel alloy.
2. Casting: The molten stainless steel is cast into specific shapes, such as billets or slabs.
3. Hot Rolling: The cast material is hot-rolled into sheets or plates of varying thickness.
4. Cold Rolling: If needed, the hot-rolled stainless steel sheets are cold-rolled to achieve the desired thickness and finish.
5. Finishing: The sheets or plates are then subjected to various finishing processes, which can include cutting, pickling, and surface treatments to enhance their properties.
 Advancements in Lightweight Stainless Steel
Traditionally, stainless steel is known for its strength and durability. However, the introduction of lightweight stainless steel has expanded its utility into areas where weight is a critical factor. These advancements have been made possible through innovations in alloy composition and manufacturing techniques.
 1. Alloy Composition
The development of lightweight stainless steel begins with careful consideration of alloy composition. By altering the ratio of elements such as nickel, chromium, and molybdenum, engineers can create stainless steel sheet metal with reduced density while retaining its strength and corrosion resistance. This lightweight stainless steel is often referred to as "high-strength, low-density stainless steel."
 2. Advanced Manufacturing Techniques
In addition to alloy composition, advanced manufacturing techniques have played a pivotal role in producing lightweight stainless steel. Precision control over the rolling and annealing processes ensures that the final product possesses the desired mechanical properties while maintaining a lower weight.
 3. Automotive Industry
One of the primary beneficiaries of lightweight stainless steel is the automotive industry. The demand for vehicles that are more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly has driven the need for lighter materials. Lightweight stainless steel is now being used in the production of components such as exhaust systems, chassis, and body panels, reducing vehicle weight and improving fuel economy.
 4. Aerospace Applications
In the aerospace sector, where every ounce counts, lightweight stainless steel has become a game-changer. It is used in the construction of aircraft components, including structural elements and fuel tanks. This not only reduces fuel consumption but also enhances the overall performance and longevity of aircraft.
 5. Architecture and Construction
Architects and builders are also embracing lightweight stainless steel for its aesthetic appeal and durability. It is used in the construction of modern, sleek buildings and bridges. The reduced weight makes installation and transportation more efficient, while the material's corrosion resistance ensures longevity in challenging environmental conditions.
 6. Consumer Electronics
The consumer electronics industry benefits from lightweight stainless steel in the production of laptops, smartphones, and wearables. This not only reduces the overall weight of these devices but also ensures their robustness and resistance to wear and tear.
The Economic Aspect: Stainless Steel Price
Despite the numerous advantages of lightweight stainless steel, it's important to address the economic aspect, particularly stainless steel prices. While these advanced alloys offer a host of benefits, they can be more expensive to produce than traditional stainless steel. However, the long-term cost savings resulting from improved fuel efficiency, reduced maintenance, and extended product lifespans often justify the initial investment.
The Future of Lightweight Stainless Steel
The development and adoption of lightweight stainless steel are expected to continue growing in the coming years. As industries across the board seek to reduce their environmental impact and enhance efficiency, lightweight stainless steel offers a compelling solution. Its versatility, strength, and resistance to corrosion make it an attractive choice for a wide range of applications.

Introducing the IES-X Series Cabinets: Inspiration, Exquisite, and Style
Tumblr media
In today's fast-paced world, people lead diverse lifestyles that require efficient and versatile solutions for their living spaces. From the living room to the bedroom, every area of the home has unique storage and accommodating needs. For instance, in the living room, people need a place to put their TV, while in the bedroom, they require a helper that is within reach. At Yadan Steel Furniture, we understand the importance of providing furniture that meets all of these needs and more. That's why we have developed this all-in-one series, IES, which stands for Inspiration, Exquisite, and Style.
(Please click the link below to check its details on our site:)
Tumblr media
This is a set of environmentally friendly and very functional pieces of furniture made of high-quality cold-rolled steel that fits almost anywhere in the home. Surely furniture should not only focus on practical functions, but also be stylish and reflective of one's personal taste. And this is what we have done in this series to let you enjoy a comfortable and beautiful home.
Design concept
The design concept of IES series is to make each piece shine with its own light by the use and matching of different materials. In this way, each piece could have aesthetic that is unique to its own.
Tumblr media
In general, they all have a wood-like style, which is reflected in the surface finish of the material and the multiple planes and three-dimensional fringes and corners adopted in the design. At the same time, the diagonal-cross patterns also embody the Arts and Crafts style. This is a furniture style that can be traced back to the late 19th century, with emphasis on traditional craftsmanship, simplicity, and functionality.
Tumblr media
A discussion on paper about its design blueprint may leave an unremarkable or “plain” impression overall, but once you see it brought to life by our refined steelworking skills and art, especially in person, you'll discover that its true beauty shines through.
Detailing
1. Guide rail
For the drawers, they have high-quality guide rails, which provide smooth push and pull and reduce noises.
Tumblr media
2. Faux-wood design at edges and corners
The drawer panels and top panels adopt wood-imitation craftsmanship, which employs more planes and creates a sterical visual effect. This was enabled by our state-of-the-art bending process on steel plates.
Tumblr media
3. Diagonal-cross shaped frames
X-shaped frame is a reflection of the Arts and Crafts style. This design and decoration style can be traced back to mid-19th century Britain, when reformers believed that machinery, factory production and industrialization had caused the decline of aesthetic standards, so they began to focus on the expression of art in life.
Tumblr media
4. Foot pads
At the base where they meet the ground, adjustable plastic foot pads are adopted. This design can protect the ground from being scratched by the sharp metal material and help it adapt to uneven terrains.
Tumblr media
5. Drawers
The drawers are made by excellent workmanship, with a flat and even surface and a beautifully powder-coated color shade for the finish. All drawers can be pulled out completely for easy access.
Tumblr media
Individual modules
1. Night Stand
Behind the overall simplistic and plain style is our exquisite bending technique, which has been newly upgraded. By adding a three-dimensional effect on the edges and corners as well as visible cracks in between components, it shows a strong wood-imitation taste, thus becoming a night stand that breaks boundaries and redefines what a cupboard at your bedside can be.
Tumblr media
Weighing at 12.5 kg and a size of 48cm in width, 41.5cm in depth and 54cm for height, it's compact and lightweight, but at the same time spacious enough to store the things you may need in bed. And not just for the bedside, it’s actually suitable for multiple home scenarios as a multi-purpose storage solution.
2. TV Stand & Storage
These three pieces together create a both beautiful and practical solution for placing TV and storing all kinds of daily items in a more open area, and of course you can mix and match them at will.
A very eye-catching point about them is the X-shaped diagonal-cross frames on the acrylic windows, which is what the "X" in the name of this series "IES-X" stands for. And the design of this shape pays homage to the "Arts and Crafts" movement in the 19th century, as a rebellious reaction to the industrialization and mass production of goods. The movement emphasized traditional craftsmanship, simple forms, and natural materials. Our "IES-X" series embodies the essence of the Arts and Crafts movement with its emphasis on craftsmanship and attention to detail. In addition, such structure for the frames also increase stability and firmness.
Tumblr media
1.23 meters long and 85 centimeters in height, it is enough to place a lot of things you need to put around the TV and in the living room, while in the mean time it only weighs 29 kilograms, which is an amount of heaviness an adult woman can move without much effort.
These stands are made of very good steel, and note that what you put in the living room is generally something you want your visitors, relatives or friends to see, which often include some heavy handicrafts. If you use a common cupboard made of glass or wood planks, there would be a risk of deformation or even collapse. This is where the benefits of steel furniture, in terms of sturdiness, manifest.
3. Side Cabinet(with Open Top Cubby)
The side cabinets can be matched with TV stand, and are also great for being used stand alone. This side cabinet, featuring an open compartment on the top thus increasing the convenience for taking some frequently used items, is very versatile. It can be put in any room as a storage tool or a very beautiful decoration.
Tumblr media
47cm wide, 86.5cm high and only 19kg in weight, it is small and light likewise, but its higher height compared to ordinary night stands makes it have more accommodation space and more of the function for showcase and display. It will be great to use with crafts and books.
(Explore more good furniture masterpieces @ Yadan Steel Furniture:)
4. Side Cabinet (with Bottom Double Acrylic Doors)
This side cabinet is comparatively larger, 60 cm wide and 96 cm high. For the lower part it features a compartment with a double acrylic door and a three-partition layout within.
Tumblr media
We don’t want to repeat - and probably neither do you want to hear more about the aesthetics brought by the unique diagonal cross design (but in this way we still managed to remind you once more), but what we would also like to mention is its exceptionally good matchup with those indoor environments with more elegant decoration and a touch of nobility. It also goes particularly well with houseplants.
In conclusion, Yadan Steel Furniture's IES-X series is a versatile and stylish solution for anyone looking to elevate their home decor while also meeting their storage and accommodating needs. The unique design concept of the IES-X series ensures that each piece stands out with its own aesthetic, while the use of high-quality materials and state-of-the-art steelworking techniques ensure that they are also functional and durable.

What is The Hammer and The Stake?
The Hammer and the Stake is a new stand-alone tabletop roleplaying game set in a fictionalized and alternate history where marginalized Eastern European socialists fight against the depredations of fascist vampiric un-dead. The game's core mechanic focuses on player cooperation and wagering to overcome obstacles.  The game was created by 5-time Ennie Award winner, Chris Gunning, who wrote for Delta Green, Vampire: the Masquerade, City of Mist, Hellas, and Tribe 8!
The game has been playtested and revised based on player feedback and the manuscript stands at over 150 pages and is nearly ready to share!  As you can see, some art has already been procured. Help us make The Hammer and the Stake a reality by backing this project!

“[Our] greatest strength is our inclusivity. It is a power the elite capitalist blood-suckers cannot and will not match. Our duty is to harness the inherent power of the workers, all workers, in such a way that we present the Kard too many problems to solve. We are the proletariat waves that wear against the fascist stone.”
- Lili Batfalszki, Notes of the Speech to the 1st Carpathian Revolutionary Council
The Setting.
The Pitch:
There is a spectre haunting Europe...
Following World War One and with partition of the Austro-Hungarian Empire looming, Count Dracula (THE Count Dracula) engineers a fascist vampire-coup in Hungary and Romania and establishes himself as the autocrat of the newly created Nagy-Magyarország ('Greater Hungary' pronounced 'naj ma-jar-or-sahg').
The players are proletariat freedom fighters, working to overthrow Dracula's despotic regime. The threat is very real; Dracula's magic is powerful enough to make manifest the worst fears of Marx. Time is of the essence. If Dracula's minions are left unchecked, the people will literally lose their identities and become lumpenproles - beaten down degenerate servants of the Dracula regime.
You play one of the heroic socialists fighting to liberate the people from both the invisible hand of Adam Smith as well as despotic vampire overlords led by Dracula himself.
You have to fight, not only for your freedom, but for your identity.
...and if you can't wrest the means of production from the leeches, you and yours are going to burn it all down.  To. The. Ground.
Tumblr media
The Carpathian Revolution:
The Carpathian Revolutionary Front (CRF) is the rag-tag organization that attempts to coordinate the fractious socialist and communist organizations in Nagy-Magyarország towards overthrowing Dracula’s despotic government.
The characters are members of the CRF. You were likely brought into the CRF’s umbrella through another organization with a distinct socialist-communist vision for the future of Hungary, Romania and the region. You were placed in a cell with socialists you don’t know. They have their own skills… and their own philosophic outlooks very different than your own. Your diversity will be your Cell’s strength… or so you hope.
As members of the Front, your job is to destabilize the Nagy-Magyarország government however you best can. The CRF has pretenses towards directing and organizing the various revolutionary cells, but in reality, you and your comrades are largely on your own.
Tumblr media
“Greater Hungary:”
The Dracula cryptostate rules over a fictional Hungary and Romania as well as portions of Ukraine and Serbia. Cities still stand and house a large portion of the population, but growth has stagnated. New technologies embraced elsewhere across Europe are rare, if not outright outlawed. The fields are tended, but machines are eschewed for an ever-increasing population of semi-serfs who feed the demand for back-breaking labor. Books are outlawed. The borders are closed. Security forces are ever-present. Life is cheap.
The land is ruled by Dracula. This is not Vlad Tepes. This is Stoker’s Count Dracula – a creature of a bygone age who fetishizes anachronistic social structures. The enemy of the people is a regressive-fascist who perverts Hungarian pride and destroys Romanian identity to create social divisions. Dracula seeks to destroy the structure of progress to permanently keep the people as his slaves.
Vampires literally and figuratively bleed the land and the people dry. They feed easiest when the people are fearful and broken, deprived of the weapons to fight back. The Dracula government steals everything from the working class. It steals their labour. It steals their hope. It steals their future. The state owns all and consumes all.
Unless something is done, Nagy-Magyarország will devolve into the vampires’ paradise – a place where humanity is little better than cattle.

The Factions:
The eight factions that make up the Carpathian Revolutionary Front (CRF) are:
The Hungarian Socialist Revolution (HSR): The most populous of the CRF factions. HSR members tend to be well rounded and hyper-focused on the survival of the movement. Many play diplomatic roles within the Collective.
Faction Talent: “The Movement is All”
The Literati: Based in Romania, but with branches throughout Greater Hungary. Members defy the Kard’s laws to curb literacy and reading, and use the written word as the basis of their rebellion. Many Literati members are canny smugglers.
   Faction Talent: “Educated in Militancy”
The International Workers’ Union (IWU): This group believes that the best way to bring down the Dracula government isn’t by directly fighting the vampires, but by capturing the means of production and upending the delicate economic structures that Dracula relies upon.
   Faction Talent: “Saboteur”
The International Liaison Department (OMS, in Russian): This group is closely aligned with the Russian Bolsheviks in Moscow. They are well-funded and well-equipped. They are determined to ensure a triumphant socialist movement in Hungary is part of the worldwide Comintern.
   Faction Talent: “Furnished”
Society of St. Blaise: The Society traces its socialist roots back to the very beginnings of Christianity as a revolutionary movement. They see the two-pronged fight against the vampires and the effort to empower the people as dual moral imperatives and reject capitalism as idolatrous.
   Faction Talent: “James 5”
Company of Secularists: The fight against Dracula and the vampires is an existential one, and must be carried out rationally and efficiently. The Company believes victory can be achieved by mastering the new tools and cutting-edge technology and machines that will define the coming century.
   Faction Talent: “Rationality’s Razor”
The Krewspach Commune: This group has roots in the isolationist Germanic speaking communities of Greater Hungary. Members of the Commune have temporarily abandoned their communal agrarian lives to hunt vampires. Commune members are notably protective of their privacy.
   Faction Talent: “Far Beyond Driven”
The Committee of the New Revolution (CNR): Bitter rivals to the HSR and no longer formally part of the CRF. The ‘sisterhood’ is less focused on fighting vampires and more interested in the fight to empower marginalized communities.
   Faction Talent: “The True Revolution”

The Mechanics.
The Basics:
The Hammer and The Stake's mechanics were designed from the ground up to accentuate the setting.  The system is based on games of chance like roulette, craps, and blackjack and uses D6s (everyone has six-sided dice).
The game defaults to scene resolution, where a single roll accounts for multiple actions by the character to achieve a larger success.  However, the mechanic is granular enough that task resolution is possible should the players and GM want to focus on the drama of a single act.
The goal of The Hammer and The Stake’s dice rolling mechanic is to create a sense of suspense, stress and anticipation with every roll. Statistical probability is complicated and fluid and involve taking calculated risks.
The System is designed to keep every player invested in each roll. The betting mechanic and helping mechanic promote player communication and cooperation. Multiple actions from multiple characters can be resolved with a single roll. Every player with a character in the scene has a vested interest in the outcome of the roll.
Tumblr media
Character Stats:
Characters are primarily defined by their Attributes and Skills.
There are three Attributes; Physical, Mental, and Social. Attributes represent the raw abilities of the character.
There are eleven Skills, with a much larger number of specializations. Skills represent refined training and knowledges gained through the character’s work, insight, and experience. The Skills are: Brawn, Education, Explosives, Firearms, Lookout, Lead, Machinery, Occult, Rhetoric, Skilled Trade, and Subterfuge.
Many characters also have Abilities. These are special actions the character can perform – they represent heroic (or dastardly) aspects that make the character a cut above the masses. Abilities each have their own special rules that are defined in the description of the Ability.
Wagers
Wagers are bets on the results of the dice. A ‘Hit’ is a successful wager and results in a successful character’s action.
Wagers allow a character to be successful on a roll of the dice that results in something other than a 2 (which is always a success for everyone performing an action in the scene). Players place wagers on numbers they hope will come up on the dice. Players can place multiple wagers on the same dice roll (to elicit better results).
The number of wagers a player can make on a roll of the dice is dictated by their character’s relevant Attribute. For example, a character with a 2 in Physical can place two wagers on the table before the roll.
The types of numbers a player can place a wager on is dictated by their Skills. Higher skills allow wagers on numbers that more frequently hit. A character with a 1 in a skill is severely limited in the numbers they can chose to wager on. A character with a 4 in a skill has a number of choices.
A Few Example Abilities:
Wo(man) of the People
Any time you place a wager on a number for a roll involving the Social attribute, the bet is considered to be two XP wagers on the same number.
The Voice of the Proletariat
Any time your roll involving the Social attribute is a success AND the dice show the same number (doubles) the bet is doubled and you score a critical success.
The Struggle
You may reroll any failed throw to convince someone of the righteousness of your cause.
Pacifist Rejectionist
If you are resolving a conflict using your Physical attribute but are not intending to cause damage, then you may ignore the first failure (7) – forcing subsequent throws specific to your character. The other characters involved in the shoot must still abide by the first failure.

Chocolate Jinx
Tendou x f!reader
So I know time skip he’s a chocolatier in paris. But in this fic he’s in Sendai. It’s how I wrote it before I even remembered he’s in Paris and I don’t feel like changing the whole story now.
Your breaths came out in puffs, each inhale and exhale lasting four of your steps as you ran down the sidewalk, counting as you ran so you could focus on your stamina, inhale one two exhale one two. Towards the chocolate shop that you had an appointment at, an appointment that you are currently late for. "shit shit shit" ran through your head like a prayer that would somehow make you run faster. You knew that you would be late, your mom had asked you to help her with her grocery shopping since your father wouldn't be able to do it for her today, you couldn't say no, you couldn't tell her about this appointment because it was a secret, a surprise for her that will be special goddam it!
You open the door and step into the air conditioned shop, the scent of chocolate hitting your nose making you smile "y/n?" a voice asks, when you finally make eye contact with the man behind the counter you smile "Tendou?" you ask with a breathless chuckle "I’m so sorry I’m late I know it‘s not very professional and I can explain" he chuckles and cocks his head "but? you're not late? Our lesson isn’t for another twenty minutes” "what?!" you exclaim and then laugh, still breathless, as you place your hands on your knees and bending over a little to catch your breath. "This whole time I thought Iwas ten minutes late. I have it written down that it’s 3 but now that you said that I remember" he laughs and walks around the counter holding out a bottle of water "no worries, we can start early if you would like, water?" you nod and take the bottle from him "thank you! I’m glad I’m not late but don't let me bother you if you have other things to do before our lesson." you take a drink and your throat thanks you for the relief.
Tendou turns the shop sign to closed, then locks the door. "it's no issue. when you’ve caught your breath from your run" he chuckles "we can start. Come with me and I will show you where to put your things and give you an apron. did you bring a hat?" you nod and pull one out of your back pocket as you walk behind him, following him into the kitchen. its an old black Yankies baseball cap, you hold the bottle under your arm as you pull your (h/c) back into a low pony before putting the hat on.
"You can put your jacket and things in the office here, there’s a bathroom in the back to the right, aaand.." he reaches up on a shelf and gets down a white apron "here is this, i'll wait for you in the kitchen whenever you're ready" you take off your hoodie, leaving you in a black blouse with flowy long sleeves that you roll up along with your black skinny jeans with the ankles tightly rolled and a pair of checkered vans, you leave your things on the seat of the chair in the office before making your way out to the kitchen again.
You put the apron around your neck with a smile, tying it around your back as you stood next to him at a counter top. In front of you were a few ingredients, cocoa, cocoa butter, chocolate liquor, sugar, as well as a few others and multiple tools. “Ready?” He asks with a smile and you nod “ready!”
“So since you booked the premium one on one lesson, instead of just teaching you to be a chocolatier and just making things out of chocolate, I will also show you how to make the chocolate, so mixing the ingredients, heating, and tempering. I’ve laid out all of the ingredients so we’re ready to go. We will both be doing the same things together so you can see what it’s supposed to look like.” You nod and bounce a little excitedly in your toes “let’s do this!” He gets you set up in your station across from his and goes through the tools with you and after that he talks about how you get from cocoa nuts to chocolate.
He starts his speech that you can tell he’s said hundreds of times “Chocolate is a product that requires complex procedures to produce. The process involves harvesting coca, refining coca to cocoa beans, and shipping the cocoa beans to the manufacturing factory for cleaning, coaching and grinding.” You’re watching him as he speaks, how he moves his hands while he talks, you’re trying to pay attention to the history of your favorite candy that fascinated you as well as admire the handsome man in front of you. His long fingers and expressive eyes, the way he obviously loved his job, he was beautiful. You realize you weren’t paying attention and zone back into his speech and hope he didn’t notice you zone out.
“needs to be harvested manually in the forest. The seed pods of coca are first be collected; they will be selected and placed in piles. These cocoa beans will then be ready to be shipped to the manufacturer for mass production.” You raise your hand a little and he chuckles before nodding at you “Why picked by hand?” he smiles brightly at you, like you’re the first to actually care about the history and ask questions, “good question! The answer is that machines could damage the tree or the clusters of flowers and pods that grow from the trunk, so workers must harvest the pods by hand, using short, hooked blades mounted on long poles to reach the highest fruit.” You smile “what comes next?” He looks so much more passionate about this now that you asked a question, now that you’ve truly shown your interest, before he was going through the motions of the many classes he has taught before to the same people who don’t ask anything just zone out until the cooking starts.
“Well after the cocoa pods are collected into baskets, they are taken to a processing house. Here they are split open and the cocoa beans are removed. Pods can contain upwards of 50 cocoa beans each!” He’s gets more animated as he goes along, you found him to be the most adorable man you’ve ever met. “then the beans undergo the fermentation processes. They are either placed in large, shallow, heated trays or covered with large banana leaves. If the climate is right, they may be simply heated by the sun. Workers come along periodically and stir them up so that all of the beans come out equally fermented.” “How long does that usually take?” You notice him get ever more excited with another question asked “usually 5-8 days” his smile is so gorgeous it makes your stomach flip.
"Chocolate factories take these cocoa beans and use machinery to break down the cocoa beans into cocoa butter, cocoa liquor, and cocoa powder. All which we will be using today.” You match his energy now, excited to be able to learn this today. “Amazing!” Your smile mirroring his. He tells you how much of the ingredients to add to the bowl to double boil and you’re whisking it together as it melts, talking with him was easy as you followed his directions. “So why have you wanted to learn about chocolate?” His eyes are on his bowl as he asks and you flick your eyes up to his face, studying his handsome features as you whisk in the same pace as he is, you’re admiring his fingers as he holds his whisk, his other hand resting the counter, when you look back to his eyes you find him looking at you with a smirk, you blush a little embarrassed as you respond “My grandpa used to be a chocolatier but since he’s in America and unable to make it now, I can’t have him teach me. My mom's birthday is coming up and I thought it would be a nice gift, to give her some handmade chocolate” he smiles wide “that’s so nice of you! I’m sure your mom will really love that” he says “Now we should be ready to temper it so grab your pot and follow me over to the marble counter”
“So to temper, you need to cool it by spreading it out and then folding it into itself to build the right kind of proteins, after it gets thicker we will warm it back up and it should be ready to mold” you nod and reach up to turn your hat backwards so you can see better before taking a spatula from him. “Follow my lead” he begins to pour two thirds of his chocolate out on one side of the marble countertop which was about six feet in length giving you both enough space to work side by side. You pour yours like he does and begin to work it back and forth, copying him. “That’s good!” He points out and you blush “thank you!” You chuckle “I have an amazing teacher” you wink at him, the blush rising to his cheeks makes your heart race so you turn your attention back to spreading the chocolate.
You finish tempering the chocolate and adding it back to the pot, using the still hot water underneath with the third of still warm chocolate to raise the temperature to the right consistency. “I thiiink” you stretch out the word, a little embarrassed to admit what you’re about to admit, “Tendou I think I screwed something up” your eyebrows are furrowed looking into your mixture that has now began to look grainy. He comes closer and looks over your shoulder “hmmm” he says and you look up into his eyes, your expression a little anxious “it’s seized a bit, but don’t worry we can probably fix it and if we can’t we can start over!” He smiles and you and you feel some tension drain from you, for some reason you felt like this would be easy and now that you’re having a hard time, you felt tense. if you ruin this you will just buy some chocolate from here but it wouldn't be the same.
He grabs some of the cocoa butter from the other counter and brings it over to you, "lets add a little more cocoa butter and mix it together, it should come back-" you stir and it incorporates but it doesn't get better "ahh I guess not." he laughs "must have been too hot still and too much steam, no worries, let's start over!" his cheery attitude made you smile. It’s like he doesn’t really mind that you just wasted these ingredients. That he’s just happy to be teaching you and helping you. "If I fail again, I don't want to waste anymore of your ingredients, okay?" he quirks his eyebrows as he throws away your ruined chcolate " I think I should be the one to decide what to do with the ingredients y/n" he cocks his head and smiles brightly "we will make it until it's perfect! for your dear mom!" your heart beats quickly in your chest, this sweet man, you felt butterflies flood your stomach "thank you Tendou" you smile with your eyes closed and he about dies with how cute you are.
After four more tries you sigh and throw your arms in the air "Tendou I think I'm a chocoalte makers jinx! You are a superb teacher and you make amazing choclate, even with your help at the end it still siezes" your voice is frustrated and overwhelmed as you place your hands on your hips and stare at the, once again, siezed chcocolate. "lets go through it one more time, I'm sure you can get it this time!" he says with the same amount of energy he had in the beginning. you look at him with wide eyes for a second before they soften and you smile at him "you are the sweetest guy, do you know that? okay. one more time, but if I dont get it then I’m paying you for all these ingredients" he laughs, his cheeks blushing, as he cleans out your bowl for the fifth time "ya know what they say y/n! a sixth time is a charm!" you chuckle and shake your head before finding yourself back next to him by the stove.
"you have the ingredients and steps memorized now huh?" he laughs as you add the right ingredients to the bowl of the double boiler."I will most likely always remember these ingredients and this experience" you laugh with him and slowly whisk the mixture together as it melts. "wait" he says just now noticing how youre whisking "try it like this" he walks around you and places his hand on yours, holding the whisk and your hand, slowing down your stirring so it was more gentle and smooth, your heart racing as you feel his strong hand on the back of yours "o-okay. thanks Tendou'' your voice is quiet since he's so close. "yes, this is perfect now, lets temper it" his voice was soft and right by your ear, your cheeks get warm and your voice stutters again when you respond "o-okay"
He lets go of your hand and you go over to the marble slab again, pouring out two thirds again, and using a spatula to smooth it out, again. "is.. is this right? I'm doing this right?" you’re secretly hoping he grabs your hand again to help you but you don't think he'll take the bait, how wrong you were. When his hand covers yours once more you gasp softly and smile as he guides your hand back and forth through the chocolate "like this, it’s close. usually people use a thermometer but since I've done this so long it's by feel for me" you're looking at him from the side of your eye with a smile on your lips, his eyes are hooded as he smiles wistfully at the chocolate, his cheeks are dusted pink and his hand on yours is slightly clammy like he's nervous.
To be honest he was nervous, here’s this beautiful woman who he's been teaching for the last two almost three hours now, who's flirting with him and who is kind and funny, and who is so incredibly bad at making chocolate. If this fails he’ll never let you pay for ingredients. He will just offer you another class and hope you accept. "it’s perfect, now" he lets go of your hand and studies your sweet face as you scrape the tempered chocolate into your bowl, you hope your face wasn't as red as it felt.
You go to stir it all together slowly before pausing and looking up at him with a shy smile, "maybe.. you could.. help me with this too?" his eyes widen and his cheeks flush "of course" he moves to stand behind you, looking down at the bowl over your shoulder, his left hand over yours holding the whisk and his right arm around you, his hand holding the bowl halfway over yours, he whisks slow and smooth, his breath hitting above your ear, your voice quiet with his proximity "have you always been good at this?" his chuckles quietly "no I actually struggled a lot in culinary school. I fell in love with chocolate though so I never gave up." your cheeks are so warm you're sure you looked like a tomato "I like that determination, plus you ended up with the most popular and delicious chocolate shop so you're definitely in the right line of work." he blushes with your praise "thank you." he goes quiet as the chocolate finally looks correct "look!" you exclaim "look Tendou! it's perfect! it's shiny and amazing! I did it! I’m a chocolatier!" you’re bouncing on your toes and in his arms as you dance in excitement "time for the molds!" he exclaims and lets you go, moving away so you could go pour your batch into the already set up molds, the only empty ones on the row, the ones he used for his batches already set up.
You pour the chocolate slowly into the heart shaped molds that already have macadamia nuts in each one, after they are full you scrape the top like he showed you when he made his last four batches and put the excess back in the bowl. "these should be set in about an hour if we put them in the fridge but that will be pretty late, you could come back tomorrow to pick them up if you would rather that" he says and takes your bowl, putting the excess in a random mold and then putting the bow and utensils in the sink.
You pull your phone from your back pocket and gasp at the missed texts “oh no. yeah that would be better. I'm supposed to walk home with my brother from his volleyball practise but I lost track of time here with you. shit. i'm sorry i really wanted to stay and help clean up and talk but i have to go" you frown until you meet his eye, they're looking at you inquisitively with a huge smile, "volleyball? what school does he go to?" he asks not even caring about cleaning up alone "oh! he goes to Shiritorizowa. he’s a second year middle blocker! hes quite good although I’m not very knowledgeable about it" you chuckle and then full laugh when he gets extremely excited "that was my school and my position! whats his number?" you raise your eyebrows and get as excited as him, steping towards each other at the same time "hes number 5" "NO WAY!" he shouts and laughs "that was my number! what a small world!" you gaze into his eyes and smile softly "this is so cool. you have no idea how much i want to continue this conversaton but i really have to go" you frown and look back to your phone "how long will you be here tonight?" you look back up into his eyes and he’s cocked his head "probably a while, have to make tomorrow's candies. why?" you grin "can I come back? I’ll walk my brother home and then would you mind if I came back? I could help you and I could get my chocolates for my mom" he grins "that would be great. I would love that" he says, your butterflies return to your stomach "perfect!" you take off your apron and hand it to him "i really had an amazing time here. you’re a great teacher even if i was a jinx five times. i'll see you in like forty minutes max!" you exclaim before running out of the kitchen, unlocking the front door, and running down towards the school, your phone already ringing calling your brother. Tendou walked up front and locked the door again, chuckling softly and thinking about how cute you are. he cant wait to see you again when you return.
when you and your brother get home you stop at the door "do you mind if i bring a friend to your next game?" he shrugs "yeah sure I don't care. wait. do you mean a friend or a boyfriend?” you laugh at his accusatory look "it's a boy but he's not my boyfriend. He used to play the same position and team when he was in high school. I thought it would be nice" your brother lights up "yeah that's so cool! bring him so I can ask him tips! are you coming in?" he has the door open halfway and you shake your head "i have to go finish mom's birthday project" he nods "okay i'll cover for you" you thank him and make your way back to the handsome redhead.
You take off your hat and run your fingers through your hair, shoving the hat in your back pocket again before you knock softly.
A soft knock to the door catches his attention and his heart races "finally" he says softly before walking out to the front, surely enough there you stand, with a smile on your lips and your arms around your body hugging yourself in the cold he smiles bigger when you wave at him, you were sooo cute. he unlocked the door and let you in, locking it again behind you "welcome back y/n" "glad to be back" he chuckles as he gazes down at you, your cheeks flushed and nose red from the cold. "i forgot my hoodie" you shiver and he reaches out, placing his hands on your arms and rubbing them up and down to create friction "do you want some hot chocolate?" you nod excitedly and he chuckles again, your cuteness will be the death of him, "come, sit, i'll make us some" he leads you to a table by the counter and begins to prepare two cups of cocoa.
Now that you have more time since you’re not focused on seizing chocolate, you study his face as he works. he had sharp features that made him so beautiful, beautiful red eyes, he had his hat off now, his red hair disheveled and all over the place but you loved it, you wanted to play with it. His uniform jacket was off, leaving him in a black t-shirt, he had long arms that were lithe and strong. "Do you want to come to my brother's volleyball game with me?" your eyes widen, a little shocked that it just came flying out, you didn’t mean to ask him now. He chuckles at your expression, he's been able to read you so well, you keep everything on the surface and he really likes that. "like a date?" he asks as he returns his attention to pouring the hot chocolate mixture in the cups. you laugh "I don't know if it qualifies as a date, just meaning like, it's not very romantic. maybe we can have a real date after that" you say and his smile widens "you have no idea how much I’d love that" he makes his way over to sit by you, placing a saucer with a cup of hot chocalte and a biscotti in front of you "i'm glad! I was really hoping you would say yes" you chuckle and then hum in delight as you bring the cup to your lips, the smell enveloping you even more than it does just being inside the shop.
You take a sip and find the chocolate to be perfectly sweetened with a touch of cinnamon and chilli, it was perfect, not too hot not too cold. "this is so amazing Tendou. thank you so much" you take another sip, feeling it warm you from the inside out, he smiles warmly "you're welcome. i'm glad you like it!” He wiggles his eyebrows at you “so about this date you're taking me on'' he takes a sip of his own while maintaining eye contact over the rim of the glass "when is it happening?" he smiles as he watches your cheeks blush "oh! his game is in a week. the preliminaries for nationals" the look of excitment in his eyes makes you laugh, makes your heart race and your stomach feel the familiar butterflies that seem to be constantly around when you’re with him. "the prelims! I am so there!" his excitement causes his leg to bump into yours, causing you to spill some of your hot chcolate "oh my god I’m so sorry! I get a little excited and don’t realize sometimes. i've been told its annoying" you shake your head and reach out, grabbing his hand from the air "no. it's not annoying. I like it. you're like a breath of fresh air to me" you smile warmly looking into his eyes. his heartbeat is rapid and his breath hitches. "you’re so sweet, do you know that?" his voice is a whisper and you blush, recognizing your words you used earlier. "I do know that. Doesn't it make sense then that someone as sweet as me would date a chocolatier?" you cock your head as you tease him, smiling warmly watching his cheeks flush, your hand is still in his and he brings it gently to the table, brushing his thumb over your knuckles, your breath hitches and you feel your cheeks flush “saturday, their game is at 1 but i'll be there from the beginning in the morning. do you wanna meet me there for just his game or..?" he finishes off his drink "I’ll be there in the morning! if you dont mind! We can spend the whole day together and after that we can get dinner together at this new italian place downtown. I think you’ll love it.” He stands and takes your empty cup from you "that sounds amazing, Tendou. I know my brother will want to ask you questions and ask for tips so it's perfect. Plus pasta is my favorite” you chuckle and stand from the table to follow him over to the sink “what can I help you with tonight?" he smiles at you and shakes his head "I actually finished everything quickly, considering I did make five batches of chocolate earlier” he chuckles ”other than these dishes I am done for the night. maybe I could walk you home?" he’s turned to put the cups and saucers away, his back is to you when he asks and you're grateful he cant see the crazed happy smile on your lips "yes please!" you get a little embarrassed with your excitment and feel your cheeks flush even more "let me just go grab your hoodie and chocolate from the back and we can head out" he says and dissapears in the back again.
You pull out your phone and send a quick text to your best friends that consisted of many exclamations. When he returned you beamed up at him "ready?" he asks "ready" you put on the hoodie he hands you and exit the shop with him, he locks the door and then turns to you "uhh where do you live?" he chuckles and scratches the back of his neck "I live in the new apartments that are down near the school" he laughs "no way. That's where I live too! this is so.. cool" his voice is soft, completely blown away by how perfect everything has been. how completely meant to be it seems. a feeling he would have many times as he gets to know you, many times as your relationship grows. a feeling that warms his bones and makes him realize what he's been missing for so long. He'd give your brother all the tips he has and train with him whenever he needed. he’d make you chocolate surprises every day, ultimately finding your all time favorite, white chocolate raspberry bonbons. he’d make them for you for every special occasion and make your mom anything she ever wants. It’s like in this moment he could see every possibility with you, he couldn’t wait to get to know every part of you.
But for tonight, he’ll wait for the right moment to hold your hand on this walk, he’ll ask you questions about your family and your job, he’ll get your number and kiss your cheek at your door, and he’ll think about you every second until he gets to see you again.

Flightline: 59 - Oblique Wing Aircraft
Beginning in WWII, German aviation engineers began to investigate new designs to allow faster, more stable flight, especially with the new gas turbine engines being worked on. One solution was to sweep the wings, which changed the speed of the air flowing over the wing, reducing drag. Swept wings are not suitable for low speed flight, however, especially during takeoffs and landings, increasing the speed of both, which then necessitates longer runways. One of the solutions to that issue were variable-sweep or ‘swing’ wings, which could be set to a given sweep angle depending on the performance needed. Swing wings are complex and heavy though, bad things for aircraft. They also change the center of lift of the aircraft, reducing stability. The slewed, or oblique, wing was proposed to counter those disadvantages, rotating the wing on a central pivot, which would bring one wing forwards and the other back, eliminating the complex swing wing gear and keeping the center of lift in place.

Two aircraft, the Blohm & Voss BV p.202 and the Messerschmidt Me P1109 were both intended to prove the effectiveness of the oblique wing.

Designed by Richard Vogt, the P.202 would have been powered by two BMW 003 jet engines and could potentially be armed with two MK 193 30mm cannon on each side of the fuselage and one MG 151/20 20mm cannon in the nose. The variable wing could pivot by up to 35 degrees. Because the fuselage was filled with wing-rotation machinery, the engines were mounted under the cockpit, and the landing gear extended down from the main wing spar. It is unknown if construction of the P.202 was ever started, though B&V’s documents, and Vogt himself, were brought to the US by Operation PAPERCLIP after the war.

A refinement of Vogt’s work on the P.202, the Me P.1109 (the exact designation is the subject of some debate, as the documentation is damaged and incomplete) would have had two oblique wings, making it a biplane of sorts.

Two He S011 turbojets would have been mounted in nacelles on either side of the fuselage, though their availability was in question. As with the P.202, there is no indication that construction of the P.1109 was started, let alone completed.
Research on oblique wings cooled after WW2, and the idea remained untested until 1979, when NASA contracted with Burt Rutan (natch...) to build the AD-1. The small plane was constructed of a fiberglass-reinforced plastic sandwiching a foam core, and weighed just 1400lbs empty. Power was provided by two Microturbo TRS 18 turbojets, and the speed was limited to ~170mph.
Tumblr media

The AD-1 made its first flight in late 1979. The wing was pivoted incrementally over the next 18 months until reaching its full 60-degree sweep in mid-1981. The aircraft continued to be flown for another year, obtaining data at various speeds and wing-pivot angles, until the final flight, at the EAA exhibition in Oshkosh, in August 1982. The AD-1 proved that the concept worked, though its construction resulted in aeroelastic and pitch-roll-coupling effects that contributed to poor handling qualities at sweep angles above 45 degrees. A more robust structure and automatic control systems could have improved these issues, but the program was canceled. The AD-1 was retired to the Hiller Aviation Museum in California.

In 2006 DARPA began their Oblique Flying Wing program, which was to create a remote/autonomously piloted tech demonstrator to research supersonic, tailless, oblique flying wing aircraft. Phase I of the OFW project explored the theory and was to result in a conceptual design, while Phase II would have involved building and flying an X-Plane based on the Northrop Grumman Switchblade concept (not to be confused with the Northrop Switchblade, which was a FSW concept 5 years earlier).
The Switchblade UAV would have flown sometime in 2020, but the program was canceled in 2008.

443 Stainless Steel Strip
https://www.sdosssheet.com/products/443-stainless-steel-strip/
443 stainless steel strip is a kind of super ferritic stainless steel with high mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. It is now generally used to replace 304, and its rust resistance and processing performance are equivalent to 304. At present, it is fully promoted in the fields of electrical appliances, utensils, kitchen equipment, elevators, oven production and other fields. 443 stainless steel improves corrosion resistance by increasing Cr, reducing C, and adding Ti. The pitting corrosion resistance is improved. Ti element preferentially forms C compounds, which inhibits the enrichment of C in the grain boundary of stainless steel under heated conditions, improves the thermal service life of stainless steel, and improves the intergranular corrosion resistance of stainless steel and the heat stability.

Processing Service Of Our 443 Stainless Steel Sheet
Cutting+Slitting - 443 stainless steel narrow strip, special length/width plate
(1) Flame cutting: The cost of flame cutting equipment is low and it is the only economical and effective means to cut thick metal plates, but it has its shortcomings in thin plate cutting.
 (2) Laser cutting: Laser cutting equipment can cut stainless steel plates below 30mm. Adding oxygen to the laser beam can cut 40mm thick carbon steel, but after oxygen cutting, a thin oxide film will be formed on the cutting surface.
 (3) Wire cutting: It is developed on the basis of EDM perforation and forming. It has not only developed the application of EDM but also replaced EDM perforation and forming in some aspects.
 (4) Shearing cutting: Uses a moving upper blade and a fixed lower blade and uses a reasonable blade gap to apply shearing force to metal plates of various thicknesses so that the plates can be broken and separated according to the required size. Shearing machine is a kind of forging machinery, and its main function is the metal processing industry.
 (5) Plasma cutting: It is a processing method that uses the heat of a high-temperature plasma arc to partially or partially melt (and evaporate) the metal at the incision of the workpiece and uses the momentum of the high-speed plasma to remove the molten metal to form an incision.
 (6) Slitting: Also known as slitting, refers to the process of uncoiling, slitting, leveling, and winding of stainless steel coils into coils of the required width.

85 districts!39 industries!Stop limiting production until next year!
Tumblr media
On October 12, the Yangtze River Delta region announced a plan to stop production in autumn and winter, following the announcement in late September of a moratorium on production in The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and surrounding areas. So far, 85 regions and 39 industries have been affected by the "work stoppage order". On Oct 12, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment issued a draft action Plan to tackle air pollution in the Yangtze River Delta region in autumn and winter 2020-2021, also known as the autumn and winter moratorium. This year, the number of industries implementing performance rating will be expanded from 15 to 39, and different indicators will be determined according to different production processes in different industries. 1 Long process combined steel and iron;Short process steel;Ferroalloy; 3.4 coking;5 Lime kiln;6 casting;7 Alumina;Electrolytic aluminum; 8.9 carbon;Copper smelting; 10.Smelting of lead and zinc;Molybdenum smelting; 12.13. Autumn and winter are the key period for the whole year's air control. The construction site should strictly implement the "six hundred percent" requirements, and constantly improve the fine management level of the construction site.Industrial enterprises should, on the basis of ensuring a stable discharge up to the standards, further strengthen the management level of pollution prevention and control facilities, and reduce the total emission of major atmospheric pollutants by enterprises in key industries.Especially during heavy pollution days, more precise and scientific emergency mitigation measures should be adopted for key areas, areas and periods. In terms of hazardous waste management, the newly implemented solid waste law shall be strictly implemented to strengthen the management of hazardous waste and ensure the safe disposal of hazardous waste. The sources of air pollution are very complex and there are many sources.More than a dozen industries have different responsibilities for PM2.5.This is certainly a relief for the chemical industry, which is largely responsible for air pollution. As a result of the shutdown, chemical prices will continue to rise from this winter through next spring Read the full article

Bowers on collecting: The San Francisco Mint in 1854
By Q. David Bowers
This week I share some comments from my 2002 book on the S.S. Central America. That was 18 years ago, but in some ways, it seems like yesterday:
The San Francisco Mint, which opened for business in spring 1854, plays a central role in the saga of the S.S. Central America, as the majority of coins recovered from that ship are double eagles bearing “S” mintmarks, including for all years 1854 through 1857. Among the latest-dated 1857-S coins, nearly all are in full Mint State, and some challenge the definition of perfection.
Description of the New Mint
The Sacramento Union, January 11, 1854, gave a view of the San Francisco Mint facilities, then in the process of being completed:
The California Mint will be ready for delivery to the government in February. It will be capable of coining $100,000,000 per annum. The machinery is of the most approved style and finish, and the house adapted in every respect to receive and sustain the weight and force exerted by the working of the powerful engine which impels it. It will be proof against thieves and fire.
There are three tubular boilers, eight feet long by four feet diameter. The bed-plate of the engine is solid iron, and weighs about four and a quarter tons. The fly wheel is 15 feet in diameter and of great weight. The engine is 55 horse power.[1] The machinery is represented as the most perfect that could be made. The press for striking the coin exerts a pressure of many tons, and turns out 76 coins per minute. In coining double eagles, it will turn out $90,000 per hour.[2] The Mint will be perfect in all its appointments for assaying, refining, and in all other particulars, for coining gold and silver of every denomination. . .
A Preview Tour of the Mint
On March 28, 1854, the Alta California included this about the new facility, then on the verge of opening:[3]
[After gold is refined and made into ingots or bars, the bars are made thinner by running them through a rolling mill.] The bar, not quite so thick as the coin, is taken thence to the cutting machine, which, by a punch cuts out from the bar round pieces. . . These pieces are called blanks.[4] The blanks are carried to the Annealing Room and washed with soap and water. They are then taken to the Adjusting Room. Here each blank is weighed separately, and made the exact weight for the coin. If too heavy, the blank is filed down; if too light, it is thrown into a box to be remelted. The work in this room is done entirely by ladies.
The adjusted blanks are run through the milling machine, which compresses the blank to the exact diameter of the coin and raises the edge. The purpose of making the edge thicker is to make the coin pile neatly, to protect the figures, and to improve the general appearance. About 250 blanks are milled in a minute.
The milled blanks are carried back to the Annealing Room, placed in an airtight cast iron box and placed in the furnace to be annealed, so that they may take the impression well. When they are at a cherry red they are taken out and poured immediately into water with a little sulfuric acid. This softens and cleans the gold. The blanks are taken out, washed with cold water, put into hot water again, taken out, mixed in with sawdust, which is then sifted off and the blanks are dry and perfectly clean.
They are again taken to the Coining and Milling Room and stamped. The coining machine is elegant and massive. The blanks are placed in a tube or pipe, and from this the machine takes them one by one, puts them between dies, stamps them, throws them out of the die and carries them down in a box.
They are then delivered to the treasurer and are ready for circulation. Such are the main features of the process. . . The difference between the United States coin [made at the Philadelphia Mint] and the California coin is that the latter is alloyed with silver, the former with copper. The California gold contains a good deal of silver, and it is troublesome and expensive to separate it from the gold; besides, it is more difficult to make a copper than a silver alloy. The California coin being one-tenth silver, is worth more than the United States coin, and a premium is paid for it at the United States mints. There is about 75¢ worth of silver in $100 of California gold coin. The copper is a much better alloy, being harder, more durable and more beautiful.[5]
All the machinery is of the best quality, having been manufactured under the supervision of George Eckfeldt, of the Philadelphia Mint.

The first 1854-dated coinage dies shipped from the Philadelphia Mint arrived in San Francisco on March 15, 1854, along with some supplemental machinery. By the end of the same month, the staff positions had been filled, including over a dozen ladies who were to adjust the weights of gold coin planchets by placing them on scales and filing away any excess metal. Close to 70 people were employed on opening day.
On April 3 the first deposit of gold was received. On April 15th the first coins were struck, double eagles of the federal design with a distinctive “S” mintmark. Superintendent Lewis A. Birdsall sent the first one, a glittering brilliant mirror-surface Proof, to Philadelphia for the Mint Cabinet.
From the outset, the new mint emphasized the coinage of gold. After this year the Philadelphia Mint, which had considered California gold a nuisance, was relieved of large amounts of coinage of this metal. In general, gold coins from California metal were struck at San Francisco while quantities of unparted gold to be refined into high-quality bars were shipped to the New York City Assay Office, which also opened that year.
First Gold Coins Delivered
The first delivery of coins bearing “S” mintmarks took place on April 19 and consisted of $2.50, $5, $10, and $20 denominations.[6] Gold dollars were delivered later in April. By the end of the month, all current gold denominations had been made, save for the $3 (which would not be struck until 1855).
However, it was soon learned that nearly all depositors preferred the larger values, and later production emphasized $10 and $20 coins. It is to be recalled that at the time there was no paper money in use in California or elsewhere along the Pacific Coast, thus placing an inordinate pressure and demand on the $20 double eagle to facilitate large transactions and to simplify the counting of large reserves. A local craftsman supplied small wooden boxes to the Mint, suitable for steamer shipments of $20 coins, these immediately becoming the denomination of choice for export to the East Coast.
A lively trade in gold bars involved banks and merchants who desired them, not for local commerce, but for shipment by sea to New York, London, and other financial centers. In addition to the activities of the local Mint, several large private firms advertised delivery of gold bars at prices competitive with the mint, and sometimes more quickly.
In the first year of operation of the San Francisco Mint, 1854, production seems to have gone fairly smoothly and according to expectations. However, now and then work stopped due to shortages of supplies, especially acid for the parting of raw gold.
Double Eagles Popular
Among the denominations struck by the San Francisco Mint, the $20 was the most important. In the 1854 Annual Report of the Director of the Mint, James Ross Snowden commented on the popularity of that denomination:
Depositors of large amounts [of bullion] call for coin in a form which gives the least trouble to count; and banking institutions, in addition to that, may prefer it in a form not likely to be drawn out. Many [of the general public] who present their checks at these institutions would doubtless ask for specie, but are deterred from doing so by the expectation of receiving double eagles instead of half or quarter eagles. In a word, the plain effect of issuing gold coin of a large size is to keep down the circulation of specie and increase the use of paper money.
This remark, of course, does not apply to such localities where paper money is prohibited—as, for example, in the state of California—because in such cases the different currencies cannot come in conflict.

[4] The term blanks correctly refers to discs of metal that are cut from strip. Numismatically, they are also called planchets. However, a more precise definition of planchet would be a blank that has been run through a milling machine to give it a raised rim, readying it for use in a coining press (cf. R.W. Julian, letter, December 27, 1998).
[5] Coins struck from California gold with silver as a partial alloy tended to be straw yellow, rather than the “warm” or rosy “more beautiful” hue of a Philadelphia Mint coin made of gold alloyed with a full 10% copper. On January 17, 1852, a reporter for the San Francisco Herald visited the private mint of Wass, Molitor & Co., and commented on a process employed there: “The finishing touch is put to it by roasting it, so as to give it a bright color.” So far as is known, roasting was not done at the San Francisco Mint.
