- Lute seems like a boyband girl- STAY WITH ME HERE. I don't ever see her going to concerts, or really interacting with merchandise or their following in anyway other than listening to the music, but she strikes me as the type to have a couple NSYNC and Backstreet Boys CDs hidden in "Classical Mix for meditation" marked cases.

- Adam is not a fan, but, because he loves his BBG, has done some "covers" for her in private, golden eyes just a glittering the whole time.

- Lute and Adam spar after getting together, and it can get intense, bruises and marks and everything by the end, but they always do it at the end of the day because they know they're gone be ready to SMASH by the end of it.

- Every now and then they take baths together and every time they never actually get around to doing anything but spooning, they shower after.

- Lute thinks she knows how strong Adam is, but sometimes he really shows just how hard he can go, and Lute goes into flustered girlthoughts mode.

Cipher, I desperately need to know if you've seen the movie 5ive Girls and if so, thoughts?

(I've described it as a film I probably wouldn't recommend to most people, but also wouldn't turn down any opportunity to watch it.)

I hadn't seen it so I checked it out and the concept looked pretty solid and I gave it a spin. Tactfully, I can say it did not land for me. I can dig in deep if you really want me to unpack what didn't work for me, but I also have my faves with glaring imperfections or which are problematic. And it's not something like Event Horizon or Cabin In The Woods, where I hate it so bad that talking shit about it is practically a hobby.

What I can do is fire off a list of my own flawed, problematic faves that do some or all of what 5ive Girls got going on but, for me, do it better - punch harder, hit lower, hurt worse, splatter further, and rise up to a great final catharsis.

Seance (2021) and The Woods (2006): bad girls go to a private school with supernatural shenanigans in school uniforms, with lots of violent revenge taking place. Also queer.

All Cheerleaders Die: technically not a private school but the cheer squad looks feel that way. The story about a witch who loves her girlfriend so much she raises her from the dead. Also queer.

Detention, Bad Kids Go To Hell, Bad Kids of Crestview Academy: I feel these three movies have the kind of weirdness edge 5ive Girls was angling for. Very much full of big stupid weird goings on. Not queer as far as I remember.

Cherry Tree: Private school girls, supernatural stuff, but imho takes a very intriguing body horror twist. Not queer, but there are centipedes if that's a hard nope. Criminally underrated tbh.

Dance of the Dead, Unhuman: Further afield but has the overall vibes of high school outcasts throw down against against a supernatural threat of sorts.

Tragedy Girls: do I need to even explain?

In 1998, I was 16 years old. Radio was dominated by boy bands and the Spice Girls. Other strapping young men my age had gravitated to Creed or Metallica. Because I was a homo but wouldn't know it for approximately 22 years, I became quietly obsessed with one song. A mid if not low tier song. By a "band" known as 5ive.

I seriously don't know if I ever thought this song was good. It isn't. It's...if you were going to make a parody song of everything that was 1998, without understanding what any of that meant, it would be this song. There are just random hip-hop noises everywhere on this thing, and I cannot express enough how artful average hip-hop production is, that it doesn't sound like this.

These 1998 men are English, and this was their one gasp in America. It was a short and shallow gasp. By 2001 they had broken up, notably after passing on "Bye, Bye, Bye," because "that sounds like an *NSYNC song."

I don't know why this song stuck with me during that exciting year in which I didn't get a driver's license or kiss anyone on the mouth. But it did. It is tattooed on my brain, and pops up there almost every time I am tired or drunk.

Not an *NSYNC song or a Creed song or fuxking "One Week" by the goddamn Barenaked Ladies. No. My mind has preserved this. The Rappin' Granny from The Wedding Singer of boy band hits.

Because she got envious with Mely only for her to realize that after Mensiya died, all of Mensiya’s contributions went to Aling Sela. Sela and Mely felt guilty afterwards about how they treated Mensiya. This kinds of situation are common in today’s society especially when a lot of people suffer from poverty nowadays, mothers work as house keepers to well-off people while others such as their family or relatives depend on them financially.
