Tommy rolls up to the Diaz house expecting a chill time with Eddie and gets met with a teenager who brings Buck up in every sentence. That's usually Buck's seat. Buck never forgets to use a coaster. Oh yeah you fly helicopters cool did you know Buck saved someone from a helicopter crash? We already watched this movie with Buck. That's not what we order when Buck is here why aren't there extra crab rangoons? etc etc etc Christopher only told Buck about Tommy agreeing with his Star Wars opinions because his bullshit radar is so fine tuned that the second Tommy patronized him the tiniest bit (as most adults do talking to teenagers it's not Tommy's fault my dude is fighting for his life) he was like my father will hear about this and Buck is so jealous he has no idea Chris is complaining

Ballroom dancing isn’t actually particularly queer coded in fact it plays more into tradition and has very clearly defined gendered roles associated with it - male leader - female - follower.

And that’s what’s interesting about it being the activity Eddie was signed up for by Helena, especially in relation to Eddie’s incoming queer arc. Eddie was forced to grow up too fast and to step into the role of ‘man of the house’ by Helena because Ramon was by all accounts an absent father - hero complex provides us with plenty of canon information about Eddie being pushed into a husband/father role at a very young age and being told to man up and not to cry etc - machismo in action.

Helena sending him to ballroom dancing classes is likely because it was a way of reinforcing those traditional gendered stereotypes held by wider society and particularly in Latinx culture that the Diaz’s are entrenched in.

It becomes an especially interesting choice if it’s something Helena did because as well as it reinforcing gender stereotypes, she could see that her son was queer and wanted a way of trying to push him towards girls/women - encouraging him into straightness by surrounding him with girls as generally classes are female dominated and away from activities that would have him surrounded by boys/men.

It’s not about ballroom dancing being queer it’s about trying to prevent him from being queer through the structure of ballroom dancing.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren: suspend the filibuster to codify Roe v. Wade during the next Democratic trifecta

Progressive Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) announced Wednesday that there are currently enough votes in the Senate to suspend the filibuster to codify Roe v. Wade and abortion rights if Democrats win control of the House and keep the Senate and White House. “We will suspend the filibuster. We have the votes for that on Roe v. Wade,” Warren said on ABC’s “The View.”

She said if Democrats control the White House and both chambers of Congress in 2025, “the first vote Democrats will take in the Senate, the first substantive vote, will be to make Roe v. Wade law of the land again in America.” The Massachusetts Democrat said her party would only need “skinny” majorities in the House and Senate to override the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned the national right to an abortion established by Roe v. Wade in 1973. “We can make Roe v. Wade law of the land if we have, and I have to be clear, we’ve got to have a majority in the House — skinny majority. We can take a really skinny majority in the Senate, I’ll take fifty. And a Democrat in the White House. We have those three things we will suspend the filibuster,” she said.

Speaking on ABC’s The View Wednesday, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) supports the idea of suspending the filibuster to pass a Codify Roe bill should the Dems get a trifecta.

yeah, yeah the Diaz family finding out about the Will would be juicy and dramatic, for sure. but you know what I kind of can't stop thinking about? Tommy finding out. Not only an outsider POV, but a queer outsider POV, seeing buddie at their most codependent? oh the drama potential.

Cause, at this point, from Tommy's POV he's dating this guy, and he knows he's really close with his bestie, and with his bestie's kid. but that's fine. they've been through a lot together and Tommy understands the bond that is often forged among first responders. and Buck's bond with Chris is sweet, makes him more attractive.

and then one day Eddie gets gravely injured and is hospitalized, and his boyfriend steps in to take care of his kid. no one in his life questions this. no one discusses it. it is assumed. it is natural. Buck knows exactly how to take care of Chris in Eddie's absence, how to navigate this house that isn't his, how to keep Chris's day to day going smoothly, in spite of it all. Buck is falling apart himself, but he pushes that aside to be there for this kid.

it surprises Tommy, because Eddie has mentioned an aunt who lives nearby, and after a couple days, Eddie's parents have flown in, and yet Buck is still staying with Chris. so Tommy asks, casually, if Chris doesn't have other family who could be taking care of him, if Buck has to be doing all this when he is clearly struggling himself. Buck just shrugs. "I mean, technically, but that's not what Eddie wants. it's not what I want, either."

what does that mean, that Eddie wants Buck to take care of Christopher? how does Buck know? so he prods further, not judgemental, but curious, not quite getting it. finally, Buck explains that Eddie put it in his will. if anything happens to him, Buck gets custody of Christopher. he explains, rather emotionally, how Eddie told him this after the last time he almost died, how Eddie trusted him to be there for Chris, to fight for him.

and Tommy has spent enough time with Eddie to know how much he loves his son, how serious this decision would be. that's Eddie's heart and soul on a silver platter. and suddenly, he understands. he looks at his boyfriend, eyes red from crying over another man. a man whose son he is caring for, whose house he is staying in, and he sees it with startling clarity.

and, in a reversal of bucktaylor getting together at the end of season four after Eddie was shot, this becomes the impetus for the (hopefully amicable) buck/tommy breakup.

Then we had the Eddie waking up to a note from Shannon saying she was gone and leaving him and Chris.

Buck waking up to a note from Eddie saying he was gone only to have him coming back with Chris.

The way Abby went to the airport to leave Buck

And Eddie went to the airport to come back to Buck.

Like this episode is truly like the gift that keeps giving.

There were so many parallels and contrasts - I can’t believe it - this show never fails to surprise me with just how many they can manage to get into a single episode!

I am obsessed with the notes and the airport of it all - such great nods without being ott or in your face - there if you know to look but revealing in their own way if you’re a causal viewer!

I also really enjoyed the contrast of the Eddie Shannon kitchen scene from Eddie begins with this one as well - the way they used physical visual barriers - Eddie and Shannon generally have a visual barrier of some sort between them to show the metaphorical barriers in their relationship - that divides them. Whereas buddie start with a barrier between them but it’s gone pretty quickly and doesn’t really come back - they are being open and honest with each other and it’s meant to show that they’re on each others team - where Shannon and Eddie weren’t.

I’m sure I’ll spot so many more as I rewatch!

This episode is everything and I can’t believe I got to watch it with my own two eyes and that it’s real and not a dream! What a time to be alive! 💜💜💜

Okay, but like. Buck in a long flowy skirt, twirling around, having the time of his life, in his own little world and Tommy is just sat watching him, not saying a word, just enjoying the view of his boyfriend in his euphoric state. <3
