i wanted to give just a few more of my heartstopper opinions lol

1.) the teachers are great characters and not at all pointless like some people try to make them out to be. heartstopper is targeted to an adult audience just as much as teens and it is soo so important to see adults having moments of discovery the same way the kids did bc its never too late to have good experiences in relationships and even if u missed out on that in high school or college, theres no deadline. i think seeing that message is very powerful.

alice was correct in switching aled for issac bc as much as i miss aled and i think having demi representation would be awesome, issac embodies aled in a good way, provides aroace rep and leaves open an opportunity for a radio silence adaptation!

charlie would definitely propose first. alice has said that n & c both plan on it and buy rings but they dont know who would actually do it. i dont think nick would propose first bc as seen in the past nick always waits untill he is entirely sure charlie is ready for something, such as the kiss, or saying "i love you". but i do agree that they would both plan on proposing to each other 🫶.

last thought is that although it is really cool that so far all the actors physically looked so much like the characters, that is not the most important part of the casting process. i know some people are upset the actor for micheal doesnt nessecarily match the comic description, but i feel like in the clip we got he embodies the character so well that it doesnt even matter.

Hii I'm so so sorry I didn't even see this until I checked my ask box!!

1. I completely agree, the teachers are an incredible addition to the story. And I think it's very comforting for young adults/adults when watching knowing they don't have to be teenagers to experience wholesome gay romance. It's a great message to send :)

2. I think it's good they switched aled for Isaac in the tv adaption. Like do NOT get me wrong i ADORE aled. But his story goes far beyond heartstopper and it gave great room for aroace representation since sadly there isn't much representation for it. Also I would love a radio silence tv adaption AHHH.

3. I saw this post a little while back from someone on tumblr saying that they think nick and Charlie would try propose on the same day but one of them would go first and the other would be like "I WAS JUST ABOUT TO PROPOSE TO YOU?!" and I thought it was so cute. But I like this too and it would make more sense for Charlie to propose first. GOD I hope we someday hear about who proposes to who because that would be so cute! Or have a mini comic called "the proposal" or something

4. OHH I COULD RAMBLE ON FOR HOURS ON END ABOUT THIS! I watched the new clip and I instantly thought "hell yeah, THATS Michael holden". He embodies him and hit his mannerisms on the nail. I hope to see him quite a bit this season.

Late top 5 ask because I just thought of it: 5 shows that you are always down to rewatch

What a great question that is also such a mean and incredibly evil thing to ask me, wen-kexing-apologist, Chronic Rewatcher lmfao

So fun fact I have seen KinnPorsche 14 times, Our Flag Means Death 11 times, The Old Guard 11 times, Heartstopper 11 times, The Eclipse probably 6 times, Bad Buddy and ITSAY 4 times, etc, etc, etc. And those are counting all the times I have watched a show all the way through. This is not counting the number of times I have actively gone back to watch specific episodes or specific scenes.

See the problem is sometimes I hyperfixate and then I just have to watch it until it is out of my system, sometimes an OST pops in to my head and then I get the urge to watch the show again, and sometimes I agree to edit the transcripts for the backlog of @the-conversation-pod and @bengiyo and @shortpplfedup start talking about a show and I'm like "ahhh good times! I should rewatch that!"

Show I Am Constantly Rewatching: Bed Friend

I know what you may be thinking, and yes you are correct I am in this rewatch for Uea's emotional journey. Uea is my sweet summer child, I love him, I have adopted him in to my family, his happiness is my happiness and I love love love watching him go from a quiet, reserved, unhappy character who keeps getting put in unfair situations through no fault of his own in to this confident, vibrant, happy person who is on his way towards healing. Often times it can be hard for me to pick A Favorite thing; a favorite character, a favorite scene because there are so. many. good. ones. But I am constantly, and I mean constantly rewatching the scene in Episode 8 where Uea tells King about his past. I have lost count of how many times I've seen it, no even kidding I watched that scene before I went to bed just last week. I will always always be down to watch that show because I love seeing how far my boy is able to grow with just a little bit of love, care, and therapy.

Show I Would Rewatch for an Instant Mood Boost: If It's With You

I have a difficult time understanding/feeling emotion in my body unless I abstract it in to fiction. So when I experience strong emotions it is typically when something super happy or super tragic happens on screen, in a book, during my D&D game, etc. One of my absolute favorite things is when something makes me so happy that my body is no longer able to contain it and I have to do the Neurodivergent Hand Flappies(TM). I think I spent 80% of this show grinning so hard it hurt my face and doing the Neurodivergent Hand Flappies because it just...they made me so happy. Amane is so sweet, and he deserves happiness, and he is getting his happiness and he's just full of sunshine and I already rewatched this show like immediately after it finished. This show joins my This Could Fix Me list.

Show I Would Be Down to Rewatch for Emotional Catharsis: Eternal Yesterday

I have not rewatched this show...yet. But I want to, and I know that I will eventually. I can only imagine that it is sadder and more evil the second time around. I cried soooo hard over this show. But it is beautiful, and it is healing, and the pain is a good type of aching pain that comes with coming to terms with grief. With acknowledging grief. With finding where the beauty and peace lie within death and memory, and the way its claws dig in to you and leave you changed forever. Ghosts can be warm, and this show makes me warm despite it all.

Show I Would Be Down to Rewatch for Content: I Told Sunset About You/I Promised You the Moon

I think I am in @shortpplfedup's camp about how you find new things to think about every time you watch this show. I actually desperately, desperately own I Promised You the Moon several rewatches because I have seen ITSAY four times at this point and IPYTM once. I am currently rewatching IPYTM with a friend who is seeing it for the first time, so that should help. But the first time I watched this show I was unable to function to notice anything, and it wasn't until the third time I'd watched ITSAY when I was rewatching it to prepare for the podcast panel, that I finally was able to form any level of coherent analytical thought to it. So I would rewatch this at any point just to see what more I could pull out of it.

Show I Would Be Down to Rewatch But Haven't Yet: 180 Degree Longitude Passes Through Us

Bold, based on how intense of a reaction I had to this show, I know. But this was one of my favorites, I never wrote anything about it because I was too busy having a literal mental breakdown over it, one that was so bad I almost had to bail on the entire show with like...20 minutes left of it, and I originally nixed my plan to show it to a friend. BUT I have watched the specific scene that did me in (and only that scene) and it went over fine once I knew to expect it so I do want to watch the whole thing again. I have a friend who I have been forcing to watch BL shows I liked and I watch them with her, and this is on the list. However, I am currently running her through I Promised You The Moon and What Did You Eat Yesterday? Season 2 so this show is still quite a ways out from a rewatch because I am not a total monster and want to give her some modicum of emotional break between those two shows and 180 Degree.

I mean it's unfortunate but asian BL is just hands down better than western for so many reasons <: / I've been reading asian BL for literal decades now (AHHH) and I can maybe count on one hand the western series I've enjoyed that had some sort of queer romance that had all I wanted or at least a part of the tropes I like...And even then, it's usually F/F relationships 9_9 (and when I say asian, I mean japanese, korean, chinese, some indonesian too! etc etc...)

I think a lot about how we're still getting extremely like... milquetoast wholesome queer narratives (most of the time) in western m/m romance media (I have nothing against Heartstopper, but it's extremely 'all queer people are pure wholesome need-to-be-protected jellybeans' and like, cool, but I want more than that as well - like give me 20 shows that are 'all queer people' in 20 different genres, thanks. BL will give me that - BL will pay people to give me that.

The only way I can get that from western media is fanfiction, and sometimes - kind of - from published m/m, when it's not paint-by-numbers rapid release that isn't about telling stories from the heart and it's about telling stories from the bank account instead (which is a valid reason to write, it's just not what I'm looking for as a reader - most readers who end up loving and writing fanfiction aren't looking for this imho)).

Thomas Baudinette is actually doing incredible work in this area of Media Studies, where it's literally a known thing that BL - particularly in countries like Korea, Thailand and Taiwan - is actually taking huge strides ahead in the genre, comparatively, especially when up against western BL.

It almost feels like we're on a giant lag, buffering behind them, and about the only place we aren't is in fanfiction, which makes sense, because the cross-pollination between fandom and south-east Asian BL is incredible (literally, they got omegaverse and guide-verse from western fanfiction and western fandom, and imho are doing a lot more with it for money than we are, see: Pit Babe).

I've been reading up pretty heavily into Baudinette's work, and also a lot of the recent and up-to-date work in BL Studies (a thing), and like, it's just kind of fascinating the different interrogations of BL we have going on in different cultures and subcultures, and how different senses of place and culture and ethnicity and minority and belonging can influence our tales, along with many different manifestations of capitalisation, economy, influence etc.

And that isn't to say there aren't huge problematic areas for BL in all countries, not just western, I can critique western BL so easily because I am western, and it's been really interesting reading critiques of BL from academics who live within other countries from their perspectives too. But I do think if I want really great BL romances, turning to fanfiction and then turning to other cultures and what they're doing is often the first thing I do. I just don't have to search as hard to find what I'm looking for. And like, I'm lazy, lol, I don't want to search through 100 published works to find like 1-5 stories I might reread but not over my favourite manhwa or like fanfiction or whatever.

This has been my area of like... personal study for a few months now (literally reading Regimes of Desire: Young Gay Men, Media and Masculinity in Tokyo by Baudinette atm) and I have a lot of thoughts of which this is just a very generalised ramble and not actually anything of great meaning but like sadkljfas TL;DR yeah

Stress Relief {Nick and Charlie}

A/N: AHHH this is a bit late i had to totally speedrun but happy happy birthday to @veryblushyswitch ! i know you like heartstopper so i decided to write a little something just for you! I hope you had a lovely birthday! congrats on reaching adulthood, ur awesome!!! :D

Summary: Nick and Charlie are hanging out while Nick goes down the internet rabbit hole.

Word Count: 1.2k (under the cut)

In Charlie’s room, Nick sat on the bed with his arm wrapped around his boyfriend’s shoulders. They were cuddled under a blanket, Nick scrolling on his phone while Charlie read a book. They had been out and about earlier that day with the rest of their friends, and both were pretty tired from the activity. Now they were just enjoying each other's company, both doing their own thing to replenish their social battery.

Charlie had half his face under the collar of his hoodie, tucked just under his nose while he flipped through his book. Nick was down an internet rabbit hole, finding random articles and occasionally announcing their contents to Charlie, who would hum in response.

“Hmm… did you know that giraffes have purple tongues?”

Charlie chuckled. “Yeah, everyone knows that.”

“Did you know it’s because they eat so many snozberries?”

Charlie raised an eyebrow in surprise, setting his book down for a moment. “Snozberries are real? I wouldn't think they'd be in that kind of climate.”

Nick snorted, showing Charlie the article. It was just a fun fact page on giraffes, and nowhere did it mention snozberries. Charlie grumbled playfully, shoving Nick lightly as they laughed.

Charlie peered over at the other animal articles that Nick pulled up, pointing out random fun things he knew about the animals before Nick could find them in the article. “Bears don’t really hibernate, did they mention that?”

“Yeah, that’s interesting. So we’ve been lied to our entire lives?”

Charlie nodded, going back to his book. “Mhm. We learn more from the internet than school at this point.”

Nick chuckled, going through a few more animal articles. He eventually grew bored of animals and decided instead to look into a different genre.

“Charlie, give me a random topic. The animals are cute, but I can only handle so many fun facts.”

Charlie contemplated for a moment. “Psychology.”

“That’s too smart for me,” Nick whined, but Charlie only curled up closer and shook his head.

“You’ll be learning, then. Look up something on stress relief… You’re getting wrinkles from stress.”

“I am not!”

Charlie laughed, leaning into Nick as he searched for some stress relief solutions. He pressed a quick kiss to Charlie’s head before clicking on one of the first articles, quickly scrolling through.

“Something called a dopamine detox is one of the solutions, but there’s also exercise, meditation… cuddling!”

He gave Charlie a big squeeze, making Charlie whine and giggle as he set his book down again, turning to face Nick’s phone.

“Human interaction seems to be a big one. Arts and crafts, laughter, spending time on a hobby…” Charlie read while Nick scrolled.

Nick scrolled back up to the laughter bit, reading it more in-depth. “You’re not stressed, are you, Char?”

Charlie laughed. “I’m perpetually stressed, you know this!”

Nick frowned, setting his phone down. “Hey, we didn’t finish the article, Nick!”

“Why don’t we try some of those stress relief methods? That way we can make you a little less perpetually stressed.”

Charlie raised an eyebrow. “We’re already cuddling. Wasn’t that one?”

“Y'know what another one was?” Nick grinned, pulling Charlie closer. Charlie flushed, averting his eyes nervously as he let Nick pull him closer.

“I don’t suppose kissing was one?”

“Nope, it wasn’t,” Nick lightly squeezed Charlie’s hip, making him squeak in surprise. “But laughter was!”

Charlie barely had any time to react before Nick began to scribble at his sides. Charlie squealed before breaking into laughter, kicking his legs under the blanket as he tried to push Nick away. Nick laughed with him, watching Charlie’s face as his cheeks bloomed pink.

“Nick–! Wahahait, not tihihickles! Hehehe!!” Charlie giggled. He was failing at pushing Nick away and escaping the tickles, so he opted instead for curling up against Nick, trying to protect himself as best as he could with his hands as he swatted at Nick.

“This is stress relief, Char! Now neither of us will have wrinkles!”

“I didn’t hahahahave any!! Thahat wahahas just yohohou!!” Charlie protested. Nick gasped in offense but the grin on his face showed that he was just messing about. In retaliation, Nick slipped his hands under Charlie’s sweater.

Charlie threw his head back and shrieked at the sudden contact of Nick’s wiggling fingers on his tummy. He tried to curl up, but Nick had moved in to plant kisses all over Charlie’s neck, only escalating his giggles. “This is nohohohot strehehess relief!!”

“Are you suuure? They did say laughter was a good method, and you seem quite giggly, Mr. Spring!”

“Yohohou’re tickling mehehe! Whahahahat did you expehehect?!”

Nick laughed, pinching at Charlie’s lower tummy. He finally began to slow his tickles, now tracing small circles around Charlie’s navel. Charlie still bubbled with giggles, like small hiccups as Nick hummed. Charlie’s tummy twitched, but he otherwise made no effort to push Nick away, covering his face instead.

“C’mon, Char, you need to let me see your face!”

“Nohohoho,” Charlie giggled softly, twisting slightly to the side as Nick began to scribble his fingers a bit again. Charlie put his arms over his face, covering his eyes as Nick grinned.

“What is it, Char? Do you want me to keep going?”

Charlie only giggled in response, making Nick’s heart thump. He sneakily rolled up Charlie’s sweater a tad, making Charlie peek through his arms to glance at Nick. “Nick?”

Charlie shrieked when Nick blew a raspberry by his hip, his arms flailing as he tried to push Nick away and cover his tummy with his sweater. “WAHaha! Nick, not thahahat!!”

Nick wouldn’t budge as he continued to blow raspberries all over Charlie’s tummy, his own cheeks getting red as he went. Charlie accidentally shoved his sweater over Nick’s head in his attempt to get him away, making Nick laugh. He looked up for a moment but was still under the sweater, making Charlie snort with laughter.

“Yohohou look so fuhuhunny!” Charlie laughed. Nick chuckled, making a face that Charlie couldn’t see.

“I can’t find my way out now! All I see is a tummy that looks suspiciously ticklish!”

“Dohohon’t–! NAHAHa!! Nick!!” Charlie shrieked when Nick blew even more raspberries, pinching at his sides as Charlie wheezed. He whined and tried to push Nick out of his sweater, but the raspberries were so tickly that Charlie could barely do that.

Nick eventually popped out, his cheeks bright red as he wheezed. “I need bigger lungs so I can do that more often!”

“Nohoho you do not!” Charlie exclaimed, sighing with relief when Nick curled up next to him again, his hands holding Charlie rather than tickling him. “I cahan still feel it.”

“The stress?” Nick asked with a grin, raising his hand and wiggling his fingers.

Charlie quickly shook his head. “No! The tickles! I can still feel the tickles!”

Nick laughed, pulling Charlie in for a big hug as they giggled together. “So no more stress then? Seems like a good method to me!”

Charlie huffed in mock annoyance as Nick held him close. “I suppose it was. Say, Nick, are you feeling stressed at all?”

Nick shook his head as fast as he could, but he was already thrown into a fit of laughter as Charlie tried out this new stress relief method himself.

Edit: I haven’t rlly updated this in ages and I don’t post a lot anymore but I want to get back into tumblr so I’m tryinggg - more stuff about things I’ll be posting: probably a lot of deep stuff because a lot has gone on in my life; mainly friendship stuff that could probably also be considered relationship stuff, emotional things, questions that I ask myself and stuff like that (gay stuff too). Alsoooo I LOVE music atm. Like I am constantly listening to music. I haven’t binged a tv show or watched movies in a while but I still love them and want to get back into them. I’m watching the office rn!

i just post random stuff tbh but a lot about Supernatural and Queen (and basically everything from the list at the top). 1. Thankyou for this question!! I LOVE colors and pretty color pallettes. I think its pretty obvious from my blog that my favorite color is definitely purple!!! It just makes me soo happy like I even have a whole pintrest board dedicated to purple images and it serves literally no purpose other than eye candy. It reminds me of space and the ocean and timelessness it just feels so deep and full of passion but also angelic and ahhh its just overall a beautiful color

Apart from that I love the color jade/emerald green. It just reminds me of being deep in a pine forest. (I love plants and greenery) And it also gives off amazing dark academia vibes that i am just here for. It just feels like a color so full of life and raw emotion. (Am I being dramatic?, sORRY moving on)

These are the two main colors im obsessed with! And what I love even more is that these are the colors of the ace and aro flags respectively (purple and green).

2. Ahh, current obsessions? Hmmm...

A show called The Owl House and Alice Oseman Books and Heartstopper.

I'm currently in exam season and there are soo many peices of media and hobbies I want to get into. I'm just waiting for my finals to finish. (so I can finally graduate from the institution :)

Also music artists! I just wanted to say I absolutely LOVE Aurora too. She was literally my most listened artist this year and im so happy! She is absolutely amazing. Her music is soo beautiful. Full of love and passion!! It also feels so gentle!? Idk how to describe it- And omg her personality is so cutee. I love her. Also Mitski ahhh Amazing.

have you ever read/heard of the book Imogen, Obviously by Becky Albertalli?

Omg yes! I read it in maybe 2 days. Which is my record for fastest read time alongside red white and royal blue

I genuinely love ut and it always reminds me of Imogen from heartstopper is she eventually comes out.

But if you haven't read it, I 100% recommend! Ahhh I love it sm!
