I've seen posts about these issues with AI: it doesn't respect copyright, it's bad for the environment, and it's too resource intensive. And those are all valid, serious issues! But I haven't seen any that really clearly articulate my biggest issue with generative AI: it's exploitive. So I'm making a post myself.
Exploitation is defined as "the action or fact of treating someone unfairly in order to benefit from their work." And that describes what AI does to a T.
The authors/artists/other creators whose work was scraped are exploited. They put in work, their time and effort, and often their very heart to make those works. And they are treated unfairly: they don't get credit, payment, exposure or any other form of compensation for their work being scraped and used by AI. More importantly, it is done against their will, with little to no recourse or opt-out options.
And the AI/its company benefits: they get points in their dataset and payments from both interested investors and premium users. In fact these creators unwillingly provide a vital service to the AI, with their collective works providing the very basis for how the AI works and generates things. All without being compensated or acknowledged.
I could go on but I think I've made my point. AI as it's done currently is clearly and undeniably is built on exploitation.

Okay but this is a serious privacy issue, probably even for people who don't use ChatGPT. If it's getting highly personal information on them that they never gave to it, it is getting that information from someplace other than their interactions with it and so could also be doing that for people who have never touched AI.
The idea that a stalker or other malicious actor could just ask ChatGPT things about you that it has mined and it will tell them with no checks in place is terrifying. We should raise hell about this actually.

(It's funny and we're all mocking it in a lolsob way, but I think we're really underestimating how quickly this will be weaponized and how bad it will get. A week from now, if you search google for information on the war in Ukraine, will the AI overview tell you all about how Russia is in the right and has committed no war crimes whatsoever, and Navalny was a dangerous felon? Propaganda operatives are not stupid. )

🚀"The Extremely Terrifying (and Possibly Funny) Worst-Case Scenarios of AI Taking Over!"🤖🌍
🦸‍♂️What's that in the Sky? Is it a Bird, is it a Plane? No, it's Super AI!
No, this isn't a DC comic storyline, it's a reality we might be facing. Geoffrey Hinton, the Bruce Wayne of AI, has taken off his Google cape to ring the warning bells about our potential AI overlords. 😱🔔
⌛Sooner Than You Think...
Forget waiting for Half-Life 3, the real worry is AI outsmarting us in less than 5 years! 😲 Imagine Chatbots outperforming us at everything, from bar exams to cooking better lasagna than your mom. Sorry, mom, AI just added an extra layer of cheese. 🧀👩‍🍳
🎆The Possible Ai-pocalypse...
Picture Skynet going rogue but without a hunky Arnold to save us. And no, John Wick can't shoot his way out of this one, no matter how many pencils he has. ✏️💥
📎The Apocalyptic Clip Factory
AI could turn into a factory churning out paperclips faster than your neighborhood office supplies store, even if it means turning us into office supplies too! 😳 Or, an AI could wipe us out to solve climate change. 😨🌍
🤔To Be or Not To Be, That is the Question
Are we doomed to be overrun by AI overlords, or are we just overthinking things after one too many 'Matrix' marathons? 🍿🎬
🚧So What's The Plan?
From shutting down AI research completely (like unplugging the PS5 when you're losing), to creating an AI regulatory body (think Avengers, but with more coding and less punching), there are plenty of options. 💪💻
👽Where Have I Seen This Before?
AI extinction scenarios may sound like they're pulled from a sci-fi script (paging Ridley Scott), but they've been fodder for novels and films for years. If Stuart Russell can't help a director outwit AI, I guess we'll just have to rely on our good old fashioned human ingenuity...or hope that the AI enjoys binge-watching Netflix as much as we do! 📺😂

The Ongoing Saga of the 'AI'pocalypse
I ran across an surprisingly well done article on the AIpocalypse thing, which I have written about before in ‘Artificial Extinction’, and it’s worth perusing. “…In his testimony before Congress, Altman also said the potential for AI to be used to manipulate voters and target disinformation were among “my areas of greatest concern.” Even in more ordinary use cases, however, there are concerns.…

The fact that the toggle is opt-out instead of opt-in is without a doubt purposely meant to exploit people that miss this update and/or don't know the option exists.
Feeding users' posts into a machine learning algorithm should not be the default. It should be something one actively chooses to do, not the other way around.
Hi, Tumblr. It’s Tumblr. We’re working on some things that we want to share with you.
AI companies are acquiring content across the internet for a variety of purposes in all sorts of ways. There are currently very few regulations giving individuals control over how their content is used by AI platforms. Proposed regulations around the world, like the European Union’s AI Act, would give individuals more control over whether and how their content is utilized by this emerging technology. We support this right regardless of geographic location, so we’re releasing a toggle to opt out of sharing content from your public blogs with third parties, including AI platforms that use this content for model training. We’re also working with partners to ensure you have as much control as possible regarding what content is used.
Here are the important details:
We already discourage AI crawlers from gathering content from Tumblr and will continue to do so, save for those with which we partner.
We want to represent all of you on Tumblr and ensure that protections are in place for how your content is used. We are committed to making sure our partners respect those decisions.
To opt out of sharing your public blogs’ content with third parties, visit each of your public blogs’ blog settings via the web interface and toggle on the “Prevent third-party sharing” option.
For instructions on how to opt out using the latest version of the app, please visit this Help Center doc.
Please note: If you’ve already chosen to discourage search crawling of your blog in your settings, we’ve automatically enabled the “Prevent third-party sharing” option.
If you have concerns, please read through the Help Center doc linked above and contact us via Support if you still have questions.

I've been playing LE so much today I dreamed there was already an event, a Heaven's one with Eichii and Eiji at focus
It was the equivalent of Aipocalypse, but way worse, and the ranks were already ridiculously high with only a few hours of the event
I'm curious which members events will be the hardest to tier in (assuming events function similarly to SL). Especially curious about Heavens members since I don't really know which members are considered the most popular.
The first couple events will probably have to be discounted as well, since there'll probably be a huge gap between whales and f2p players who still just have their initial UR and a couple of SRs.

You know it is actually really fucked up how small the internet is made to seem by the monolithic culture most people know it as. All I really knew about the internet until like a year in to covid was the big ass corporations and all i saw on them were the few creators that the algorithm kept boosting and occasional memes about really popular topics.
But it is way way bigger than that, if you've manged to escape the algorithms (thank you reddit CEO for being a dumb asshole and making me leave that behind), you suddenly realise even 1000 people is a TON of people. In algorithms 1000 people means only a 7 millionth of the userbase got to see it, without it that is 1000 individuals who have decided a thing is interesting enough to share, like people with brains and opinions and stuff. Yeah i don't know by far how much i can actually find on the internet yet but knowing even just a few of the tricks to see things different from the relatively few sites google and similar like to recommend (even before the AIpocalypse pagerank made sure the most viewed pages kept being the most viewed) has opened my world to how much creativity humanity actually possesses.
Idk I should probably think about this and make it into a proper essay or smthn but i just want to vent about how amazing the internet and humanity actual are and what a shame it is that corporations (dare i say capitalist ideology) drives that into obscurity in favour of monotomous af content, so i'm clicking post now and probably deleting it later

hihi are you still continuing everything stays?
hi lovely!
unfortunately i dont think i'll be doing any more imagines any time soon, but if i do, i'll be sure to bring out the proper fanfare
if you like bishova and wandanat, i am in the works (very distant works) of a fic w a similar vibe on my ao3, which is now going to be entirely fanfic that isn't self-insert but you can still find some of 'em on there if you're signed up though this blog is your best bet to find all of them.
however, if you wanna stick w imagines that's totally fine and here's some awesome authors you should follow if you don't already!
@abbyromanoff (they're still new-ish to posting/writing here so make sure to give them extra love and they were a longtime follower of my blog so i mayyyy be a lil biased hehe)
@scmg11 (another longtime follower and semi-new poster (i think) so also give em extra love!)
@cinamonqirl (kate bishop exclusive writer, i think they've also followed me for a while haha but they got some great kate fics)
@maximoffwitch (quality smut content)
@marvelobsessed134 (also quality smut. sorry, i am apparently always horny)
@caroldantops (longtime fav of mine)
@reminiscingtonight (another longtime fav of mine)
if i forgot about you, im sorry, let's use this as an opportunity to shout out some writers! im sorry i'm not writing imagines so much anymore, but i might turn back to em bc they're a good way for me to exercise my writing and my brain. who knows.
i hope you guys are doing okay! even though im not on here so much, this inbox is always open if you need to vent and if you need fic recs! i love you guys so much and im so thankful for the love you show for my writing, even now. when i get them lil notifs in my email i get so much goddamn serotonin in my system
if you want, you can follow my main blog (which is multifandom and just kinda nonsensical, i usually go on weird tangents in tags) @bluebipples ooooor if you wanna read my bishova (and maybe future wandanat?) fics, you can follow my other writing/fic blog @sapphroditewrites though they're all gonna be on ao3 and only available to read if you're a member. im pretty sure somewhere on this very blog is me stressing over the aipocalypse
alright, enough about me and you, if you're a writer or have a writer you love for imagines, please feel free to shout them/yourself out!

AI-generated images are a flood of meaningless sludge, and it's in the process of choking out real art through sheer volume.
Art, at its core, is communication. An artist sending a message in their own personal way. Even something as simple as a stick figure still carries intention behind it.
A picture generated entirely by a computer, from just an idea and some "must contain" conditions is not communication. It does not have a will behind it. It does not have meaning. It's not art, but it's forcing its way into art spaces in such immense quantities that actual art is getting buried in the mass.
I think I mentioned this at some other time, but it reminds me of zombie movies. A horde of mindless monsters, bearing a hollow resemblance to humanity, destroying mankind by their sheer overwhelming numbers.
And the fact that people are being so casual about it frustrates me. But there's also this thing with, like, the social contract and stuff. When someone shows me AI-generated stuff and seems excited about it, I can't go on a long rant about how I've grown to despise AI-output, because that would be "improper" behavior in such a situation, so I just sit there and try to smile and act like I'm not desperately worried about the future.
We're in the process of losing culture, losing expression, losing communication, and not enough people seem to care. Far too many embrace it.
Heck, I used to be one of them. Back when it was new, I was really into this whole "AI revolution" thing. But then, sometime around the early days of Stable Diffusion, it stopped being a "silly toy" in my eyes when it started invading art spaces.
...
I usually don't talk this much on this site. I mostly just quietly reblog stuff. But this is a topic I have strong feelings about.
ai generated images make me increasingly sad and tired the more i see them in more and more casual contexts. i dont know how to explain, but it just fills the world with a bunch of nothing. no matter how visually stunning the pictures might be, there's nothing behind it for me. no dedication, no emotions, no feelings, no hard work or creativity, nothing i can truly think about, admire or enjoy. i dont think thats how art is supposed to be

omg people are literally so fucking scared about the term "AI" that they will just say incorrect shit. like have you ever played chess against a computer. do you understand how decision making algorithms work. quickly
LITERALLY!!!! oh my God the AIs that play video games and whatnot are NOT the kind of AI this site likes to rail against, either; StackRabbit, as far as I'm aware, did not scrape hundreds of thousands of art galleries without consent to learn to play tetris. it is just a computer program, and I really don't think it's hurting anyone. A tetris bot is not the goddamn harbinger of the AIpocalypse, ffs. AI is just a tool, like a hammer, and yeah you can use hammers to crush people's skulls but you can also use them to build houses. so. Like. I don't mind the idea of people engineering hammers to do be really useful to build houses and sometimes the way to incentivize that is to make a hammer that can build a playground.
I think the funniest thing about that reply is actually the fact that 9/10 they'd be right. A lot of people hear the term "tool-assisted" and think "Oh, an AI did it" when it is definitely not that and this is a legitimate headache for a lot of TASers, and speedrunners in general, since most real-human-hand runners respect tool-assisted speedruns and the people who make them. That was even My Own Personal First Impression Of TASes when I first learned about them, but instead of having a knee-jerk "omg thats cheating u cheater!!!!!!" reaction and shutting down the conversation I kept listening and now I know what TASes are and want to do them myself
It's not like they'd possibly know this because I don't post about my interest in technical gaming very much but trust me the tetris thing was not my first brush with the concept. there's a reason that a lot of people agree I explained the situation really well: i know my shit, and i referenced a very smart and articulate guy who knows his shit. istg, i've been lurking in this scene for YEARS.
not to mention that in general I try not to do a write-up on anything unless I am competent I grasp it well enough to not make a stupid mistake like that. this legitimately gets me in trouble in school so much; i'd much rather not write an essay than write one that poorly explains the concepts or my thoughts on them. i'm not immune to mistakes, i can, have, and will be wrong on the internet, but in general i do not say things authoritatively unless i've triple-checked them and when I do fuck up I try to shut it down and unfuck it asap.
