Hai hai! We kept telling ourself to pick a different song than “you swan, go on” as it’s a cover but yet, here we are! We keep thinking about this one, it’s stuck in our mind and we must say we do really enjoy the cover itself compared to the original. (Which isn’t to say the original is bad btw!) these lyrics specifically are felt so deeply within us, the way in which the singer displays them too, it’s haunting in it’s casualness.

There’s something so deeply potent about a statement like “oh, I died” this sudden realization yet barely even taken as a shock and yet its information that feels so crucial, so unlikely to miss, because how could you miss it? As if the act of going or whatever it may be was so attention grabbing that the actual aftermath goes completely over your head and yet it’s something that should sink in in an instant. It’s like a prayer but not one which is holy but moreso one which is a whisper of some sort to hold you over, a small flicker which has almost become ritual in these moments. We often have lyrics from songs we whisper to ourself in this manner, these are definitely of those lyrics.

i have an unfortunate habit of, i think, assuming that the mountain goats have a much further reach than they do. particularly w/ musicians. i keep finding new artists (particularly more underground indie/folk/punk artists) and being like. well surely they have a tweet/post/interview where they gush about how good the mountain goats are. surely. they must have a favorite mountain goats song that has, like with all mountain goats fans, ripped them clean open stomach to throat in one continued line. of course. it’s just a matter of when their cover of it comes out. and i have to simply remember that that is not universally true although to be fair the number of times it has happened isn’t exactly proving my theory wrong.
