It's making me insane that the first tournament in cobra Kai there are no divisions at all and there's one girl in the whole competition. Then they show the board planning the next tournament and showing a clip of the girls losing match and being like "is this how we want people to think of us?" So they make a separate girl's division and then there's like one or two girls from each school. Like how do you have a tournament with one girl and then decide go make a whole separate divsion?? Meanwhile in both tournaments they consistently show young kids going up against older teens that they have absolutely no chance against and the whole time I'm screaming at the TV "get some fucking age or weight divisions!!!" To be clear I don't think this is bad writing, it's extremely realistic writing of something that pisses me off a lot in real life. My only complaint would be that none of the girls are annoyed or disappointed by it (but then the two main girls have an insane rivalry thing going on so a girls division guarantees they'll get to fight each other, in fact from a writing standpoint that's probably why they did that). Also I did Tae Kwon do and we wore sparring pads?? Is that not a thing in karate competitions? Or is it a Hollywood we don't want to hide our hot young stars faces behind ugly helmets thing?? Just kind of wild that the chance of serious injury is a constant threat and yet they're doing all this with zero protection.
