i've been curious about how iterators in your interpretation ascend exactly, since they seem to be unable to get off the string!

is the process more metaphorical/spiritual in nature? or is it entirely physical?

This is a pretty good prompt to talk about how I think ascension works! I'm gonna try to be thorough even if some information may seem basic! To me ascension feels like it's meant to be spiritual.

DETAILED EXPLANATION OF UH...

1. Ancients and ascension throughout time.

2 . Iterators and ascension

3. What Saint is and how he works.

I think some people may not realize the concept of leaving the world behind was a thing before the void fluid revolution, before our ancients discovered the ruins of the race that came before them that led to the void sea. Those were the times of those gravel eating monks.

I think ascension is supposed to be a process experienced by old creatures. It works by abandoning all your earthly desires after having been through the cycles again and again. So as you detach yourself from the world eventually.. leaving it behind and ending the samsara.

It became something worth working towards. If you didn't guide your soul to spiritual relief... you'd get stuck in the cycles. Which was painful and scary.

When the void revolution came and a much easier and faster solution was found, of course they took it. It was an answer to getting stuck, finally they would have a guaranteed method of escaping the cycles.

Turns out you can't cheat yourself out of the cycle.. if you are attached to the world too strongly, you become an echo. Which made rumors spread.

So we need another solution. Another effortless way to escape. And so iterators were made! They were designed with a few things in mind . They would be a constant in any cycle, they can't escape.. they can't ascend.. they can't die. Their taboos would make sure they don't try anything themselves and they tough bodies keep them from completely losing function.

This way they could work basically forever on the great problem.

Alright here we go!! The question! How do iterators ascend then. They shouldn't be able to, they weren't meant to do that on their own, but one allegedly managed.

Well a GOOD hint imo is Moon's dialogue in the Saint campaign.

By this we can guess there is a solution. But it is one right answer among infinite faulty ones. And it's completely indistinguishable or was there a way to safely test it.

Once you discover it and you execute it. You're a goner.

Kind of.. how it happened with Sliver of Straw..

Kind of how Saint's ascension works too.

Sliver basically was the only iterator EVER who accidentally stumbled on it and executed the task. And ascended herself before she could do anything more than send the triple affirmative signal.

And that was it. It probably happened completely out of nowhere in a flash. And she was gone.

This is also a reason why I think she is saint. The way Saint ascends creatures is... by just giving them the solution she discovered. The moment they know it, they end up in the void.

Saint is the only one who can do this. The only one that came back.

OH also quick note.. I love how Pebbles and Moon do not understand what Saint is, unless they discuss him together. Very underrated part of the game's writing. Anyway.

Saint's purpose is to continue their endless cycle to save others. Pebbles says that by definition no one who knows the answer can venture outside.. except Saint. It's why Moon tells him to wake up.

He's the only one that can.

Hellooooo you’re like one of my favorite whump blogs ever and I wanted to ask a question if it’s okay!

I’ve had a whump blog for almost 3 years, but I’ve only posted like 2 pieces of writing. I want to write more whump, because I enjoy it, but…I’m scared. I’m really scared I’ll do something wrong, or not tag properly, or write something offensive/inappropriate without knowing it. I’m scared that even if I do research on a sensitive topic and try to depict it respectfully, I’ll still get something wrong. I’m also worried people who don’t like whump will start to attack me for writing it if I start posting more of my work, which is really holding me back.

Have you had/have these fears about whump before? And if so, how did you push past them to write whump and post it anyway? Sorry if this question is inappropriate or uncomfortable…I’m just looking for a little advice.

I’m sorry you’ve got that anxiety. I understand it as I’ve definitely felt that before as well. My best advice is to try your best, be open to *constructive* help, and be understanding.

Tag the things you can think of! Use the common ones you see around. Don’t use the TikTok word exchange. Know not every trigger can be TW’d.

If you post something insensitive and someone sends you an anon message it’s really not the end of the world. The issues tend to arise when someone is rude about being corrected or consistently does it in a way that feels on purpose.

Lots of people are hurt. They are hurt and tired and because it effects them they see it more often. They already know it’s there, they deal with it all the time. If you do get someone snapping at you, I’m sorry. I try to understand where they’re coming from, but I also know where you’re coming from. Do I still literally shake when I get corrected about anything? Yes for a while after too lol.

Not all feedback is helpful feedback. Find sensitivity readers! Lots of writers are more than happy to help!

I’ve written out pieces and not posted them. I’ve posted pieces and then taken them down. It’s a growing and learning process.

Also other writers let us know if there’s anything you’d like to add!

Very first thing is it’s super duper important to know I work off of @sunnetrolls deepdweller lore! That understood let’s begin

Once upon a time, and by that I DO mean thousands of sweeps ago, Eizzil was known as Crocell. She was a very beautiful young Deepdweller, with many who would happily court her if she would give them the time of day, but she really only had eyes for her best friend.

However, before they could become official she left the depths, moving to the surface and using her status as a legal Fuchsia to end up as joint empress with another. This worked out well, for a while, until it didn’t. See, the two had VERY different viewpoints on a lot of things.

Namely Mutants, and other “imperfect trolls” such as Deepdwellers and even lowbloods. Crocell believed in protecting these groups, obviously, the other empress believed they were lesser. It ended up in a huge fight between the two. Both were horribly injured, but Crocell is the one that was presumed killed, as she barely escaped with her life at all. She slunk off to the depths and curled up in a hidden spot to sleep her injuries off, not realizing at the same time that she had also been inflicted with a curse. This is also how she got her title, The Martyred.

The other Empress went on a power trip, throwing a fit and having the other Deepdwellers hunted down. When Crocell awoke a very long time later, she thought she was entirely alone. So she changed her name, pretended she was a descendant of herself, and became Eizzil Nyxxus.

In more recent sweeps she has had a descendant (Pidge Nyxxus), and been the Other parent for a second kid (Vellah Faurux). Both of them have been affected by their deepdweller genetics.

Wowowowowow I just read the niki fic again (plus the update) and my oh myyy I love it 😭 in the beginning I was like not vibing with Nikis character and then I fucked around and kept on reading and then loved his character and especially the idea of him with oc. And then haruto came in to play 😭 like in the beginning of the story I would have been like “haruto :D” and now I’m like “haruto D:” skakakskabxhajkmcbnsn i really love your writing it’s actually so impressive how you wrote so well and it’s just really cool 🥺

Also I just wanted to add that I really like that you skip around in the stories and update each story at different times.
