June -> has a small Twitter account with just her friends following her, livetweets a lot, just rants or what she's up to. Visits Reddit occasionally to read posts about movies and the supernatural. Posted on there a few times, asked for advice while coding, didn't receive any replies

Dirk -> chronic 4channer and redditor, mostly a lurker but will reply under a post from time to time. Honestly this was supposed to be just the beta kids but I had to add Dirk being a 4chan loser

no, i wouldn't say so. i think that separating fiction from reality is a good trait to have. i mean, i'm a pretty heavy dark content blog, and about 80% of what i write i find downright vile in real life.

when it comes to content like incest, people don't tend to read it cause they actually want to fuck their dad - it's more about the taboo nature of it. and it's like, if you're seriously having those thoughts irl then you should seek help, sure, but sometimes it is just fun to read stuff when you know you'd never do that shit irl.

fiction is fiction, and especially with written fanfiction, there's not much harm that can be done (unless it's like... actually hateful or filled with underage content and things like that). like... half the fictional crushes i have would make me run in the opposite direction if i saw them irl lmao.

that was a lot of yap to say no, you're good. ik tumblr discourse resurfaces now and then, but you are NOT a bad person for enjoying reading a fictional story that isn't harming anyone. i'm glad you liked my fic, but i'm sorry it's been stressing you out. hope you're alright, anon 🙏

okay “they need that cash on hand in case they lose a lawsuit” is by far the most sensible and reasonable explanation I have seen on this hellsite for sitting on over a million dollars in cash assets, so thank you for that

that said, $190k in pro bono legal services during a year with no filing fees and no travel under the legal advocacy line item? what is that about exactly? can we get a pre-law major’s take on that?

as a former program director, that looks to me like “market value part time retainer to have a lawyer on the Board of Directors,” except that AO3 doesn’t currently have a lawyer on the Board of Directors ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yknow what while I’m here I know we as a website agreed to oppress the business majors but all the bullshit that comes around every April over ao3’s business practices makes me think we should’ve kept at least one to explain to people how nonprofits, despite their name, still need money to function and do not in fact run on rainbows and dreams alone

Shelves of Aster Chapter 1 (Part 1 of I Never Bloomed 'till I Met You)

It feels surreal posting this now that it's almost been a year since I started writing the first fic for this series. Now here we are, at Steve/Bucky's origin story! It's gonna be much longer than Rose Blue, so it's an unfinished WIP :) I hope to update every now and then, but I'll be hopping between this and my SFS bang fic for a while.

Steve had just about everything he could want, and he wasn’t even forty yet. A nice penthouse in Brooklyn, heated floors in all bathrooms, and a closet full of tailor-made suits. It was almost complete, but one thing was missing.

A sub, preferably a twink. Maybe a partner as well? He’d also love to have a sugar baby to spoil.

But Steve was too busy with work to jump back into the dating scene, as bringing Tony’s fantasies to life was time consuming. Had it really been a year since he hooked up with someone? It felt longer, considering he’d been active in the lifestyle for over a decade.

Then came an encounter on a late evening, when he ran to the nearest store in need of paint. It was as if his thoughts were heard and the perfect match for him had fallen into his lap. Unfortunately they were about to close, so he hadn't had the chance to talk to the cashier beyond exchanging a couple of words.

the claim that the fic writers on ao3 are “workers” that ao3 should pay from its own coffers is the wildest fucking part

the writers on ao3 are CUSTOMERS OF THE WEBSITE. they increase ao3′s EXPENSES. that’s why so many of the writers on the site, myself included, personally donate to ao3, SO WE CAN KEEP BEING CUSTOMERS OF THE SITE.

I missed it this spring, so here's a little reminder that:

the Organization for Transformative Works' most recent accessible cash assets (end of year 2022) total over 2.7 million dollars.

2023 budgeted legal advocacy funds totaled $5,491. actual spending in that category (screencap taken from the 2023 Actual column of the 2024 budget posted this spring) was $438.14.

this money went to productivity tools. $0 was spent in 2023 on filing fees or travel expenses.

for some reason, the 2023 budget update post on the OTW's blog used the estimated number instead of the final number. why? we don't know.

the OTW remains committed to not diversifying its funding sources or investing its reserves, having abandoned repeated claims that it was attempting to do so in previous years.

in conclusion, this nonprofit does not need your money. thank you for your time.

I’ve seen quite a few posts about the “overreaction” to the Fanfiction Pocket Archive Library app (and I see the app has been taken down so kudos for that) and comparing it to the Goodreads panic

But the thing is, some people didn’t get how that app worked, and that made them panic. Which is perfectly understandable. Anyone who creates content would panic if they suddenly found links to that content in an unfamiliar place (especially one that shows ads), but sharing of fanfiction is particularly sensitive for some creators because it’s fanfiction. Idk about some of the younger kids, but I still remember faithfully attaching disclaimers to all of my fiction so Anne Rice wouldn’t sue me. So having ads anywhere near my fanfiction? Fills me with terror

But taking all that aside, I put my content on AO3. That means that if you want to be linked to it, you can go to AO3. I can give you the link, or a fic rec list/blog can give you a link. If AO3 develops an app, you can get an AO3 link to read it on the AO3 app by the same means. But that’s it. That’s all. It’s my content and what I say goes.

I don’t need to know how the app works. I don’t care if it's just an access point to AO3, just like I don’t care that Goodreads only posts reviews. As a matter of fact, I’m pretty specific about not wanting my fanfiction listed on Goodreads. I don’t want Goodreads linking to my AO3 profile, and I don’t want Goodreads reviews on my work. You wanna leave a comment or a review? Leave it on AO3. Where I posted my work. Where it lives. And I don’t need a reason for any of this. It’s my work, and what I say goes. 

So when I say that I don’t want a third party app being a portal to my fiction, then that’s fucking final. When I say I don’t want links leading to my fiction within spitting distance of Google ads, then that’s fucking final.

I don’t know why people are acting like that’s an unreasonable thing to say.

one of my favorite things to do every six months is see how big the Legal Advocacy portion of the Organization for Transformative Works’ budget is 

huh, five grand and they haven’t spent anything in Q1 of 2020? seems low but let’s check 2019

so they weren’t even defending a writer... okay... 

and at the start of 2018, they had budgeted $5,000 for Legal Advocacy. But between February and August, that line item was reduced by $1,330, which was reallocated... somewhere. AO3 didn’t publish where it went. The legal budget question (which made note of how small the final line item was) in the comments for the 2018 budget update post was never answered. (Neither was a request for AO3 to commit that their investment portfolio will be exclusively composed of ethical companies who don’t use slave labor.) 

but we press on! August 31, 2017:

again, somehow, in the span of six months, the budget for Legal Advocacy dropped by $2,000 

2016 (no budget end date given, but the post was made in September): 

this is an incredibly specific number that happened to leave exactly $1,000 more in the budget than their expenditures up to that point. I had to go into the spreadsheet to figure out what those expenses were:

okay! they filed something in 2016! I don’t know what ‘cause that’s not in this spreadsheet! also if you go all the way back to the OTW’s posted budget in March 2016, which is as early as the published budgets on AO3 go... it looks completely different and is not categorized the same way

so it’s really difficult to say what the budget just for Legal, as it was classified in later years, would have been in the start of that year, but at the absolute least they cut $700 from the filing fees line item. 

anyway, my only point here is that I want people to stop saying AO3 does important legal work, thanks 

like ive always thought its so weird that ao3 ask people for donations multiple times a year, always exceed their goal and yet keep asking for donations like where does all the money go???? ur site still looks like someone made it in 2006 and it's been a beta ver for years now so what do u do with all that money?????

That person is the literal definition of a stan. How sad/pathetic is it that they want to defend a fave (who won't respond/appreciate them) so badly that they go to another game and are like "well if my fave is here, this wouldn't akshually happen". For a game that doesn't give much fandom wankery discourse, it'll be funny to see them along with the other Edelstans (if they decide to join them) try and spark 3H-like discourse and see them fail hard.

After a bit of research I found out that they're also infamous in GameFAQs circles for being aggressively pro-Edelgard, which says to me that they must be quite obnoxious indeed to stand out on that site.

I very much doubt they'll be any kind of Edelstan migration into TS discourse though, because there just aren't enough participants and, like I predicted, interest in the game has been waning fast although it's not even been out for two months. While they're not the only metric by which to measure fan engagement, looking at the AO3 stats just makes me feel bad for dedicated TS fans: a mere 71 fics, some of which were written before the first demo last year. It's well on track to be in line with or even less popular than its semi-predecessor Octopath Traveler, which hasn't cracked 1000 despite being nearly four years old. By comparison, Three Houses is sitting at over 35,000 fics on AO3.

On the plus side, if I'm one of the only people who's done serious meta and videos comparing TS and FE then it may be good for my YouTube metrics at least. Those could always use the boost.

I think other smarter bloggers have already covered this topic better than I have, but I’ll try! Also—if you still like tony stark, that is okay. You are not a band person for finding a character compelling for whatever reason. 

With that said, why do people hate Tony Stark? I think there are a myriad of reasons. 1) civil war discourse. While people hated TS prior to civil war, 2016 really broke the fandom and got the ball rolling. 2) the war profiteering. Say what you will about TS being reformed or whatever, but the truth is that he made billions of dollars off of human suffering. To those who say that he didn’t know where his weapons were going...that’s another reason not to like him, as he is irresponsible and unable to truly own up to what he did. Also, the us military has been involved in a lot of unnecessary, even imperialistic conflict over the years, and his profit off of that makes people uncomfortable. 3) he’s a billionaire. billionaires are bad. next.4) he’s seen as disney’s golden goose, and other characters (namely, Steve Rogers) have been sidelined in order to proponent his story. For example, I didn’t hate him in his own trilogy, but when he’s the main character in team movies,,,it gets irritating. 5) his character arc isn’t actually that strong. He often ends up making the same mistakes, over and over again, like building weapons that end up literally backfiring. it’s boring to see a lack of progression, at least in my opinion. 6) his treatment of women. This is a personal thing and is mostly prevalent in the earlier movies, but his objectification of Natasha, his r*pe joke in ao3, makes me uncomfortable with him. I wouldn’t want to be left alone in a room with this guy. 7) he’s a hypocrite. He signed the Sokovia accords where the government would regulate where he would go, and then goes where he isn’t allowed to go in the same movie. How can he get away with this? See point 3. 8) his role in the Spider-Man films. A lot of Spider-Man fans hate TS because of the large role he plays in Peter Parker’s origin story in the MCU. Him being the one who kind of inspires him to be a hero, gives him a suit, basically kidnaps and manipulates him in civil war, and erasure of uncle Ben is not good. See point 4. His problematic relationship to Peter Parker has been covered a lot, but it’s an issue. And it erases peter’s working class identity but that’s a post for another day.

TLDR He is a billionaire who made his money off of war profiteering and has a myriad of personality problems that make fans uncomfortable at best.

Notes: I drew some art for the fic, and it’s at the bottom of this post uvu I really liked how the second one turned out (also I’ve been watching TS vines for like two hours now, I just finished watching the fourth compilation)

Damien didn’t usually make it a practice of his to stick himself into others’ business or force himself where he didn’t belong, but Thomas hadn’t needed him for a video in several days and he was getting restless. (Well, okay, and maybe a touch lonely too.) He found himself wondering about what Roman was doing to pass the time, and took it upon himself to find out.

Roman was facing an empty stage, and Damien had appeared behind the curtain. After an indeterminable amount of time (Damien couldn’t tear his eyes away from the solitary, regal figure; it might’ve been only a minute or it might’ve been a minute), Roman took a deep breath and began speaking.

“He jests at scars that never felt a wound.”

That line was familiar, and Damien wracked his brain, trying to remember what it was from.

“But soft, what light through yonder window breaks?” Ah–Romeo and Juliet.  “It is the east, and Juliet is the sun!” Damien was taken aback by the amount of pure feeling Roman was pouring into his lines. “Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon, who is already sick and pale with grief that thou her maid art far more fair than she.” Damien wondered why Roman was reciting this scene from this play, as it didn’t seem relevant to anything, and Thomas had taken part in this play in high school.

“Be not her maid, since she is envious. Her vestal livery is but sick and green, and none but fools do wear it. Cast it off.” Now Roman paced the stage, and Damien had to take a step further back behind the curtain so as not to be seen by Roman, since a part of him wanted to continue observing Roman’s performance (and if he was caught, he certainly wouldn’t be allowed to). He had a better view of Roman’s face now.

“It is my lady, oh, it is my love–oh, that she knew she were.” Interesting–Roman was changing up the inflection of the lines, as they were coming out much softer than directed. He stopped speaking and stood, as if listening, in the middle of the stage, before continuing, “She speaks, yet she says nothing. What of that? ...her eye discourses, I will answer it.” His expression puzzled, he opened his mouth as if to speak, then closed it, as if he’d thought better of it. “‘Tis not to me she speaks.”

By now, his pacing had become more of an improvised waltz as he pranced across the stage, and even from where he stood, shrouded by the curtain, Damien could see the passion in Roman’s green eyes.

“Two of the fairest stars in all the heavens, having some business, do entreat her eyes to twinkle in their spheres ‘til they return. What if her eyes were there, they in her head?” Roman’s voice took on a dreamy, thoughtful quality. “The brightness of her cheek would shame those stars as daylight doth a lamp, her eyes in heaven would through the airy region stream so bright that birds would sing and think it were not night.” Once more, he halted in his constant movement. “See how she leans her cheek upon her hand. Oh, that I were a glove upon that hand, that I might touch that cheek.”

Here, Roman paused, as if waiting for another to speak, and here Damien had a split-second of deliberation–he had less than a minute before Roman would move on, and right then, he wanted nothing more than to join in, but if he did, then Roman would know he’d been spying–

But he’d already uttered the line.

“Ay, me.”

Both the side on the stage and side behind the curtains froze, then Damien stepped out of the shadows. It was too late now anyway, Roman had clearly heard him, as was evident by the strawberry-colored blush on his face when he turned around.

“Didst thou spyest on me?” spluttered Roman. “No, really, h-how long have you been there?”

“Long enough.” Curious. Roman seemed so confident, so self-assured around the other sides, to the point of sometimes being narcissistic, but here he was, looking somewhat self-conscious and extremely mortified–but perhaps those words simply weren’t meant for Damien’s ears. “My apologies, it was definitely my intention to spy on you.” He recalled how… alive Roman had seemed while acting. “Leaping about the stage like that, you just looked so… uh… beautiful…” He muttered the last word, too embarrassed to say it aloud and too embarrassed to meet Roman’s eyes (although he did dare to look up long enough to see Roman’s–pleasantly?–surprised expression).

“Th-thank you.” The creative side had stuttered more in the past two minutes than Damien had ever heard him stutter the whole time he’d known Roman.

There was an awkward silence where Roman played with the edge of his sash.

“You know.” Roman looked up as Damien spoke. “Those times I flirted with you–it was never genuine.” Damien bit his lip, then stopped with a soft “ow” as he remembered he had fangs.

Roman’s eyes were wide. “Your lip is bleeding.” He took an unsure step forward.

“It’s–it’s not fine.” Damien touched his lip and winced. Worrying is absolutely necessary.”

“If you’re sure.”

Damien’s forked tongue totally didn’t dart out of his mouth to lick off the blood, and Roman’s eyes definitely didn’t follow its path as Damien retracted his tongue into his mouth.

“Dance with me,” said Roman suddenly. It was funny, Roman himself almost looked more surprised than Damien felt about what he’d just said.

“What?”

“I, uh… dance with me,” stammered Roman, holding out a hand to Damien while the other hand nervously rubbed the back of his neck.

Damien considered–he’d never really danced with anyone before, but on the other hand, Roman looked so earnest, and right now, he wanted nothing more. He placed his hand on top of the prince’s outstretched palm.

Roman snapped his fingers, and a song began to play out of nowhere. Damien didn’t recognize the tune, but it had a certain beat to it.

What happened next was kind of a blur. Damien’s main focus was on how Roman’s eyes shone with a certain something… he wasn’t sure what. The way Roman moved was powerful yet gentle, intense yet soft, full of energy even with an underlying calm. He was fire, beautiful, and dangerous, and if you got too close…

The next thing he knew, Roman, lost in the movement, had slipped. Roman flung out his arms in an attempt to catch himself, but Damien feared it wasn’t enough. In a near-instantaneous decision, he made a desperate dive to catch Roman.

Damien heaved a sigh–that had been close, he’d had to do the “stretchy arm” thing, as the others insisted on calling it, in order to catch Roman in time. Looking Roman over, he seemed to be unhurt, and was, in fact, sporting a sly grin as he gazed up at Damien.

“Guess I can always count on my knight in shining armor to save the day.”

There were many things wrong with this situation. First, the tone Roman had used was one he used exclusively for flirting, and while Damien knew of Roman’s tendency to flirt excessively, he was not one of the three the creative side was dating. Secondly, Damien was acutely aware of the hand cupping either side of his face, as well as the blush which probably covered the human half. Thirdly, when had the music changed? …he wasn’t sure how to feel about the way Roman’s eyes kept darting back to his lips.

He let go of Roman rather abruptly, who flushed once more as he realized what he’d just been doing, which led to an awkward coughing session as they both examined the cracks between the wooden planks in the floor of the stage.

Something that felt like a hand latched onto Damien’s shoulder, and he stood stock still. Sharp talons dug into his arm, and the look on his face must’ve displayed the terror he was feeling because Roman stopped himself from laughing just in time.

“It’s alright, Damien, that’s my pet phoenix Aodh.” Roman took a step forward, holding out one arm, and in a ruffle of feathers, the phoenix alighted on his arm.

Damien had to admit that the bird was beautiful, bright reds fading into orange, then to yellow, which reminded him of a sunset. Still, the bird was enormous, and that pointed beak and those curved talons weren’t something to take lightly.

“You have a pet phoenix?”

Roman chuckled. “Do you want to touch her feathers?” Damien wasn’t quite so sure that he did, but he took a step closer to appease Roman.

Cautiously, Damien held a hand in front of the bird. He had no clue what the proper etiquette for petting a phoenix was, so he’d resorted to the way one might hold a hand out for a cat or dog. She looked him over shrewdly, but slowly lowered her head as if to give him permission. Roman nodded reassuringly, so Damien started to gently run his hand over the feathers on her head; they were surprisingly soft.

After Damien left, Roman didn’t teleport straight to his room. He didn’t collapse on his bed, and he definitely didn’t scream into his pillow on and off for ten minutes.

What is this blog?

A way for people in the Dishonored fandom to spread anonymous appreciation for other fandom members. It's directly inspired by @fandom-age who does this for the Dragon Age fandom. I am not associated with them and did ask if it's ok to make a Dishonored version.

Who can send in submissions?

Anyone!

Will anyone know I was the one who submitted it?

I will know, but I'll make all posts anonymous by default, as I won't be directly publishing the submission but make a copy. I won't reveal who made what submission, publicly or privately.

Who can I send a submission in for?

Anyone who is/was in the Dishonored Fandom. Be it content creators ( writers, artists, etc. ) or someone who always likes your posts/works, leaves tags or makes you happy otherwise in relation to Dishonored and its fandom.

Do they have to be on tumblr for me to submit appreciation?

No! If they are on tumblr feel free to @ them, if they are not on tumblr please put in brackets after the username what site they're from ( e.g.: username ( AO3 ) ).

Never use someone's real name, if I think a submission contains a real name I won't publish it. If someones username is their real name please link me within the submission so I can check that.

You posted a submission I was mentioned in, I don't want that! / I get too many @ts from you.

I can take it down, no questions asked. Should this happen, or should someone not want to be @tagged I'll also keep a 'blacklist'.
