info post about weapons used in mass shootings/attacks!!
!!!!!! informative content !!!!!!
index/foreword: Adam Lanza, Dylan Klebold, Alexandre Bissonnette, Robert Bowers, Patrick Crusius, Guilherme Taucci, Fabiano Kipper Mai, Dylann Roof
post with pictures/visual content
1. Adam Lanza - Bushmaster XM-15

The Bushmaster XM-15 is a civilian adaptation of the M16 combat rifle. In other words, it is very similar to the M16, but it has been modified for civilian use outside of military combat. It is a semi-automatic rifle, which means that one bullet comes out at a time each time the trigger is pulled.
It has a medium damage capacity and is used to hit light objects, but can be fatal to humans. The XM-15 generally uses .223 Remington or 5.56x45mm NATO ammunition. It does not have stopping power (the ability to incapacitate instantly), but it is enough to cause lethal damage, especially if combined with the ability to reload quickly and a high rate of fire, it increases the destruction. It can be filled with 10, 20 or 30-round magazines, but this depends on state legislation.
Very popular for its versatility, which allows for customization of sights etc. on the part of the bearer.
2. Dylan Klebold - TEC-9

The TEC-9 was one of the weapons that became most popular in the wake of the Columbine massacre in 1999, thanks to videos of Dylan Klebold practicing shooting, and the photo captured by the school's cafeteria camera showing Dylan holding his TEC-9.
The TEC-9 began to be produced in 1980, and is a relatively large semi-automatic pistol, but for civilian and mainly police use.
It has a 9x19mm Parabellum caliber, a type of caliber widely used in firearms that originated in the German Empire and still exists today! The gun has a simple design, with a long barrel and a grip that offers good stability, as well as being able to carry magazines with large quantities of shots, such as 32, 50 or 72 [shots]. The gun was so successful that it was modified, giving rise to models that are automatic.
3. Alexandre Bissonnette - Glock 17 9mm semi-automatic pistol

The Glock 17 has a 9x19mm caliber and is known for its effectiveness at medium distances and with less recoil. It is a very reliable weapon because it has a high safety system, which allows it to only fire the projectile when the trigger is fully pulled. The standard is to hold 17 cartridges, but it is possible to customize it to hold 33. It is light compared to other pistols and is widely used by civilians. It is a semi-automatic pistol. It is also famous for its high durability and its fixed sighting system.
4. Robert Bowers - AR-15 SP1

The AR-15 SP1 is the original model of the famous AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and began production in 1960. It has a light recoil, which allows successive and rapid firing depending on the skill of the handler. Its caliber is the .223 Remington and it has the possibility of using the 5.56x45mm NATO although it is not recommended to put a 5.56 in the .223 as it can misfire and damage the weapon. The AR-15 generally uses 20- or 30-round magazines, but with personal customizations the gun can hold up to 40 or 100 rounds, which makes it very deadly.
The material is lighter compared to other rifles, but quite resistant, and the barrel is relatively long, which allows for greater distance between the target and the shooter.
5. Patrick Crusius - WASR-10

The WASR-10 is a semi-automatic rifle with a 7.62x39mm cartridge. It has a detachable box magazine with a capacity of 30 rounds. It is a direct variation of the AK-47, which is automatic and was built by the Soviets.
The WASR-10 was mass-produced in Romania and exported to the United States. Being a semi-automatic rifle, unlike the AK-47 (which is a war weapon), the WASR-10 gained popularity as a more affordable weapon than an AK-47, but very similar to it. This semi-automatic rifle has the capacity for customizations and changes from the factory original, which generates excitement for gun enthusiasts. It is generally used for training and shooting practice, collection, hunting, self-defense and more.
6. Guilherme Taucci - 38 caliber revolver

I'll tell you a bit about this one before I talk about the gun.
Here in Brazil it is very difficult to obtain firearms, whether a pistol or a semi-automatic rifle. The legislation is very strict, as well as being illegal, and getting a gun legally is complicated. To get one illegally, most of the time you need to talk to corrupt police officers and people linked to the drug trade (who control the arms trade), and these people, although they do carry out attacks, don't carry out mass attacks on schools or anything like that, which increases the difficulty.
The 38 revolver has the .38 Special caliber, which is about 9mm. It is a repeating revolver, meaning that with each shot you have to rotate the cylinder of the revolver, which requires agility and speed, as was the case with Guilherme Taucci. It is light and has a light recoil, which makes it easy to handle. It's a reliable weapon. It has a low-pressure cartridge design. The .38 and revolvers in general can hold 5 to 6 shots
7. Fabiano Kipper Mai - Ninja Sword

The Brazilian-made melee weapon with a stainless steel blade is inspired by the model known as the “Red Guardian Ninja Sword”, produced in the United States.
The weapon chosen by Fabiano to commit the crimes is a model that resembles a ninja sword. According to a relative of the accused, the knife was bought on a large digital retail platform days before the action that caused the death of five people.
8. Dylann Roof - 45mm Glock 41

The Glock 41 is a semi-automatic pistol with a .45mm caliber, which is a high-impact caliber. It comes from a variation of the Glock 21, making it more susceptible to putting more cartridges inside and is a very popular weapon. It is relatively heavy, which can make it difficult to carry. This pistol has a capacity of 13 cartridges, and Dylann put in 17 cartridges.

Tracey rambles about Tron Ares again
Tron Ares fills me with so much dread, each passing day is like a countdown to the death of a franchise I care so much about.
The producer, title & main character, is literally Joker Morbius alleged pedophile since the early 2000s himself Jared Leto. That alone ruins the movie for me, and yet every following bullet point makes everything about and around it so much worse.
-Premise is explicitly "What if the Grid came to the real world".
NO, the interesting part of the series is THE GRID, where all of the deeply meditative commentary about our world and visually interesting splendor is supposed to be! Yes we had the lingering plot thread of Quorra coming to our world, however;
-Nothing directly tied to Tron Legacy is specifically being followed up
So no seeing where Sam Flynn could have taken Encom, no Quorra adjusting to our world, No Edward Dillinger Jr scheming with the resurrected MCP; But most disrespectfully of all, they didn't even bother to get Bruce Boxleitnter back, THE GUY WHO PLAYS TRON (and Alan Bradly & Rinzler). The one guy who actively loved this series and campaigned for a Third Tron film for over a decade, and previously Tron Legacy for even longer. But you know who they are bringing back?
-Kevin Flynn is back
THE GUY WHO FUCKING DIED IN THE LAST MOVIE. Undermining the noble sacrifice that was integral to the core themes of the film.
And just today we got this:
This is so far from an advancement design wise of the Light Cycle from either film. None of the simple shape language of the original. None of the sleek visual melding of human & technology of Legacy. While the light cycle was always cool for being a futuristic video game-ass motorcycle, its was just one of the multitude of visual elements that served the thematic purposes of Tron flawlessly.
Meanwhile, this not only physically separates the driver from the cycle, they further emphasize it through all the little gaps where there were none on either prior design. They so easily could've had the red line on Ares connect into the obviously aligned part of the bike.
Even if this is meant to show the separation of the programs from the grid for some thematic element we're unaware of at the moment, we're already going to be getting a lot of that considering the movie takes place in an average ass city.
Also, to be truly nitpicky, it looks really uncomfortable to sit in & I don't like all the added greebles.
To circle back around, what I really hate about the cast, besides the obvious one, is that there are a lot of actors who I think will work extremely well in the world of Tron. Greta Lee, Gillian Anderson, Evan Peters? Inspired casting choices.
Meanwhile production wise we're literally taking David Fincher's collaborator trifecta. Jeff Cronenweth (Cinematographer), Tyler Nelson (Editor), and Trent Reznor (Composer, backed up by Nine Inch Nails) all worked on The Social Network, another one of my favorite films. Jeff is literally the son of Blade Runner's cinematographer, Nelson was co-editor on The Batman, a film with incredible pacing thanks to their hardwork, and while I'm not the most familiar with Reznor's full body of work, I've sincerely liked everything I've heard and think in conjunction with Jeff & Tyler he will make something fantastic and fitting for the tone of this film.
However, the screenplay is done by the writer of Harry Potter & the Cursed Child, and is being handled by the director of Pirates of the Caribbean 5. Choices that feel at odds with the prestige praise I was just handing out a paragraph ago.
Theres so many good elements that are eclipsed by its central glaring protagonist, seeming lack of the interesting setting/designs or integral thematic elements that I look for in Tron, and lack of expectation regarding the choice of director & writers.
Because my two greatest fears are not about if the movie is awful and destroys the franchise as I'm expecting it could, it's either:
What if the movie is genuinely good? Well acted and performed, somehow actually has the same level of philosophical inquiry that Legacy & Identity have? How am I gonna face that reality with the enormous horrific issue starring in it?
What if the movie is bad in everyway that I think it will be, but does financially and/or critically better than the first two? The franchise is not killed again, but revives and bases everything going forward around this awful outlier in the series?
Unless this movie fails so horrifically that Disney wants to scrub it from existence, as they tend to do, the future of any Tron media will undeniably be forced to cohere itself to the existence of Ares.
If you want something that actually expands on the musings and universe of Tron, play Tron Identity. A game so lovingly crafted for fans of those elements of Tron as a connected series. And I know this factually, as the writer of the game itself (who also created Thomas Was Alone) watched my twitch stream of it and confirmed my ramblings about the deep seeded lore and intent of design of the TREES that appear in the game. Only one example of the incredible attention to detail the game delivers on. Plus its also getting a sequel that unlike Ares, I'm awaiting with bated breath.

To whom it may concern - the mutuals, the fandom-in-laws and the average movie goer. I would like to explain the plight of the Tron fandom.
The sequel announcements Disney pulled this year (2024) are insults to anyone who enjoys movies. There's nothing wrong with sequels, don't get me wrong, but to have a catalogue that has only 1 original movie announced is truly saddening, especially to those who love animation.
Then there's also the fans of Tron.
Tron (1982) was the first major motion picture to use CGI extensively for it's settings, vehicles, and many more things. Many of it's animators would go on to work at Pixar and pioneer CGI there. It was so early that it was rejected at the Oscars for special effects because it was considered "cheating" essentially. This isn't a post about the history though I recommend learning about it if you're interested in the medium of animation.
Tron was an average boxoffice movie. It made back it's money and that was it. However it became a cult classic. It's a strange movie- a bit hard to get into- I only fully understood the plot the second watch, even though it's not that complex.
It would spawn a video game sequel, Tron 2.0 (2003). Years later, in 2010, another sequel would come out, setting the current canon timeline (think of a Star Wars legacy canon and disney canon or Star Trek alpha or beta timelines- that's how the fans treat it) Tron: Legacy.
There were also other supplements, the ever mourned, cancelled after one season cartoon midquel Tron: Uprising- tie in video games and comics and a complete ARG before the release of Legacy. Then there was the planned third movie. It languished in development hell, canceled and uncanceled. (There's more complexity there, involving even, Tommorowland (2015) and of course money.)
Now what we're getting is Tron: Ares. A movie that doesn't even feature the actor for the character Tron, Bruce Boxleitner. There's also the fact that Cindy Morgan who starred in the original movie and original video game sequel was always ready to come back has now passed away. Jeff Bridges is set to return in some capacity, the most well recognized actor from the franchise to the point people assume he is the actor who portrayed Tron.
The first short trailer shown for Tron: Ares shows fundamental flaws in misunderstanding the concepts in the prior works, watering it down to an aesthetic. Most fans I've spoken with have little hope for a good movie at this time. It even stars the controversial actor Jared L*to as it's main character! All of these are red flags.
So, to those who read, please know, after waiting for a decade, Disney has decided to shill out a product with less love than any prior element in the franchise. And I mean even less love than the tie-in movie games for Legacy, of which are of varying quality. This is likely due to the opening of the US version of the Tron rollercoaster. The rollercoaster has more love and attention in it than the trailer shown. And with complete love to it and what I've seen of it- the movie should be a higher quality than a rollercoaster in terms of story and lore.
Our only current hope is for more visual novels after Tron: Identity was released in 2023. And I suppose the NIN fans will get a soundtrack.
Disney does not care about it's audiences. But it especially does not care about Tron fans.

Jan Bartek - AncientPages.com - New scientific research has revealed a piece of tartan found in a peat bog in Glen Affric around forty years ago can be dated to circa 1500-1600 AD, making it the oldest known surviving specimen of true tartan in Scotland.
The Scottish Tartans Authority commissioned Dye Analysis and Radiocarbon testing on the woolen textile to prove its age.
Scotland's Oldest Tartan On Display For The First Time!

Credit: Alan Richardson Pix-AR
The first investigation was dye analysis carried out by analytical scientists from National Museums Scotland. Using high-resolution digital microscopy, four colors were visually identified for dye analysis: green, brown, and possibly red and yellow.
The dye analysis confirmed the use of indigo/woad in the green but was inconclusive for the other colors, probably due to the dyestuff degradation state. However, no artificial or semi-synthetic dyestuffs were involved in making the tartan, which pointed to a date of pre-1750s.
Further clarification on the age of the tartan involved radiocarbon testing at the SUERC Radiocarbon Laboratory in East Kilbride. The process involved washing out all the peat staining, which would have otherwise contaminated the carbon content of the textile.
The Radiocarbon testing results identified a broad date range between 1500 and 1655 AD, with the period between 1500 and 1600 AD the most probable. This makes it the oldest-known piece of true tartan found in Scotland – the Falkirk ‘tartan,’ dating from the early third century AD, is actually a simpler check pattern woven using undyed yarns.
The Glen Affric tartan, which measures around 55cm by 43cm, is now on display for the first time at V&A Dundee’s Tartan exhibition.
by TaboolaSponsored Links
The piece will be the oldest exhibit among more than 300 objects. The exhibition examines tartan’s universal and enduring appeal through iconic and everyday examples of fashion, architecture, graphic and product design, photography, furniture, glass and ceramics, film, performance, and art.
“The testing process has taken nearly six months, but the effort was well worth it, and we are thrilled with the results!
In Scotland, surviving examples of old textiles are rare as the soil is not conducive to their survival. As the piece was buried in peat, meaning it had no exposure to air and was therefore preserved.
The tartan has several colors with multiple stripes of different sizes, and so it corresponds to what people would think of as a true tartan.
“Although we can theorize about the Glen Affric tartan, it’s important that we don’t construct history around it. Although Clan Chisholm controlled that area, we cannot attribute the tartan to them as we don’t know who owned it.
“The potential presence of red, a color that Gaels considered a status symbol, is interesting because of the more rustic nature of the cloth. This piece is not something you would associate with a king or someone of high status; it is more likely to be an outdoor working garment," Peter MacDonald, Head of Research and Collections at The Scottish Tartans Authorit said.

“The Glen Affric tartan is clearly a piece of national and historical significance. It is likely to date to the reign of James V, Mary Queen of Scots, or James VI/I. “There is no other known surviving piece of tartan from this period of this age. It's a remarkable discovery and deserves national attention and preservation. “It also deserves to be seen and we’re delighted that it is to be included in the Tartan exhibition at V&A Dundee,” John McLeish, Chair of The Scottish Tartans Authority, said.
“We knew The Scottish Tartans Authority had a tremendous archive of material and we initially approached them to ask if they knew of any examples of 'proto-tartans' that could be loaned to the exhibition.
I'm delighted the exhibition has encouraged further exploration into this plaid portion and very thankful for The Scottish Tartans Authority's backing and support in uncovering such a historic find.
To be able to exhibit the Glen Affric tartan is immensely important in understanding the textile traditions from which modern tartan derives, and I'm sure visitors will appreciate seeing this on public display for the very first time," James Wylie, curator at V&A Dundee said.
Tartan at V&A Dundee opens on Saturday, 1 April, until 14 January 2024.

Rain World - Aether Ridge is a place
EDIT: now that this region is in Watcher I would like to magnify every one of my negative opinions on AR tenfold
You ever seen these boxes?
The boxes peeve me. Outside of Aether Ridge, these metal tiles are exclusively used for wall designs or totems. Here, they are strewn about like discarded containers. They feel as conspicuous as yellow-painted crates I could smash open for ammo.
The rest of the region looks pretty cool tho.
Aether Ridge is a region mod from v1.51 that got subject to ever-increasingly scope creep insanity, and was eventually absorbed into the Watcher DLC as that frigid windy region we've been getting glimpses of.
The region has an incredibly distinct vibe and it makes perfect sense why the devs would choose it to be absorbed into the Watcher amalgamate. It's a hulking salination rig built on fragile, crumbling ground. The cliff formations left by rotting machinery resembles a mountain more than anything. The platforming is exhausting and terrifying.
There's literally gondolas in the background. How could it not feel like a mountain?
If I have to be honest: AR's visuals consist of a kinda weird, overdetailed jumble of tiles that all mush together to create something usually noisy and flat. It's a product of its time, where orthodoxy to certain visual principles in region modding wasn't as emphasized. But it still contributes to the region's delightfully distinct flavor—once you're indoors, the metallic jumbling causes the indoor areas to resemble the bowels of a craggy cave, eroded by time.
If you've ever been to like... Sen's Fortress in DS1 or something, then that gives a good picture of how it feels to traverse AR. It's all very dangerous, like a lumbering human scaling a clifface full of dangers instead of a limber rodent scrambling up an unassuming pole.
The latest public release of AR has about 250 rooms (for reference the vanilla game has 600). AR has among the earliest forms of death-water and wind physics, which we see in many mods and Downpour itself. The graffiti contains normal-ass Korean characters instead of the game's usual alien language. The region requires the usage of a physics bug to progress, where you stick yourself to a sloped ceiling and slide down it. For the sake of not spoiling creatures that could appear in Watcher, I'll just say that the (several!) new lizards in AR are genuinely crazier than the vast majority of modded creatures we have now.
You get the idea - AR is really idiosyncratic, though in ways both good and bad.
It can be very jank. The wind is usually an infuriating mess, and there's even a joke trap where you're baited in by an unlock token and sloughed off into a deathpit by the wind as soon as you collect it. The lizards' new attributes SUUUUCK for reasons that are usually unintentional, but sometimes deliberate. Again, spoilers.

Pretend this post ended on a positive note. I really appreciate this region and wanted to acknowledge its Historic existence since few people know of it nowadays. Probably a futile gesture now that I think about it since it is coming to Watcher in some form.
However, this hulking capsule of old community content is always there on the RainDB legacy page and can be played if you downgrade to v1.51 and learn how we played mods 𝓫𝓪𝓬𝓴 𝓲𝓷 𝓶𝔂 𝓭𝓪𝔂...
