2024 MLB AL West Seasons (All Star Break)

Here are the charts for the AL West Division teams showing their wins and losses, notable streaks, and longest streak so far this 2024 season.

Let's get to it under the cut!

Current first place in this division are the Mariners at 6 games above .500. The most notable thing about their season is that all 7 of their notable streaks have lasted exactly 4 games each, with 5 of them being winning streaks. Their season high point came near the end of June when they were 13 games above .500.

Although not the only team currently leading their division that has been under .500, the Mariners are certainly the most average of the division leaders. A string of short winning streaks helped give them more wins over their -- at the time -- unremarkable division rivals. However, they've had more losses recently that have pushed them closer and closer to the .500 line, allowing at least one of those "unremarkable" teams to finally start to catch back up with them.

Second place in this division now are the Astros at 4 games above .500. They have 6 notable streaks, half of them being winning streaks. Their longest streak was a 7 game winning streak at the end of June, and their season high point came recently when they hit 6 games above .500 a few games before the break started.

From this chart, it's clear to see that the Astros had a bad beginning to their season. They had three notable losing streaks, one even during those first four games, which pushed them to their season low point. However, after a one month period of wins-losses-wins-losses, they've been slowing climbing back up, and their 7 game winning streak is what finally put them back into contension with the Mariners (with no small help from the Mariners own recent losses).

EDIT: realized that i didnt highlight their 4 game losing streak from may 4 to may 8. my bad! im too far ahead in recording the rest of the season to go back and fix it on this graph so just pretend that theres another red streak in there

Coming next is the other Texas team, the Rangers, who are at 4 games below .500. They've also had 6 notable streaks and 3 notable winning streaks. Two of their losing streaks tie for their longest at 6 games a piece. Their season high point was reached twice back in the beginning of May when they got to be 5 games over .500.

The Rangers certainly had a better start to their season compared with their Houston counterparts. Although they reached the .500 line quite a few times, they didn't go below it until their second notable losing streak in May. Unfortunately, this was also the last time they were above the .500 line, and it's been a struggle to return there ever since.

One notable period for their season was in June when they had a losing streak, a winning streak, and a losing streak happen one right after the other. This period is also significant in that from June 17th to June 24th, both Texas teams were the same amount of games under .500 as seen on the first chart of the post. However, June 24th marked the start of the Rangers next losing streak, while the Astros continued their winning streak by three more games, causing the teams to finally separate in the standings.

Fourth place in the division now are the Angels with 14 games under .500. They also have 6 notable streaks, but only 2 of them are winning streaks. Their longest streak was their second winning streak, which lasted for 6 games. Their season high point came three times when they were 2 games above .500 at the start of their season.

The Angels, although not as good as the Rangers, certainly had a better start then the Astros. However, hope began to fall along with their standing before April even ended. They haven't been above .500 since then, and for the most part they've been having far more losses than wins. Their 6 game winning steak at the end of June might have been a real turning point had it not been for the 5 game losing streak that followed right after. But they're currently on the cusp of a third notable winning streak, so perhaps they could start anew once the break ends.

Current last place in this division are the Athletics who are 24 games below .500. They have 5 notable streaks and only 1 notable winning streak. Their longest streak was a 9 game winning streak in June. Their high point of the season came on the tailend of their only notable winning streak when they finally -- and so far for the last time -- reached the .500 line.

With the Astros recently surge in victories, the Athletics are now left as the only team in this division who has not been above .500. Their only notable winning streak might have given the team and their fans hope that they could keep being competitive in this average division, but if it did, the hope didn't last for long. Long losing streaks have sunk the team well under the first place Mariners, and even the Angels may seem out of reach if their season continues like this.

First of all I want to thank you deeply for sharing your knowledge with this community, I really appreciate it a lot (L)

I wanted to ask about this synastry graph: (My chart is in the inner circle, and his is in the outer circle).

The first time we met, we had sex, we told each other that we knew each other from somewhere but we didn't know from where... he is quite well known in our city but for some strange reason I knew where he lived (by the way we are neighbors, which I think that explains my synastry of 3h).

The point is that since we met we have become involved in a "friendship" that to be honest is full of feelings, at least on my part, and it confuses me to know what I mean to him.. I see little interaction between our planets but I don't understand why it feels so intense, could it be that I'm just obsessed?

His moon falls in my 5th house and my moon in his 7th house, my Mercury in his 8h and my Venus in his 7h, but I fully understand that it can mean friendship for him and I simply create a love story in my head.

If this is too much I understand it, any conclusion you want to share with me will help me clear up the mess I have in my mind.

I think why you overthink the situation and create scenarios and feel so intensely, it's due to your Mercury in his 8th house. I think you are afraid of his answer, his own truth, so you are stalling. Talk to him personally and ask about this opinion on the topic. Now we are doing the crazy recs. Apparently fandom also happens outside Tumblr. On Dreamwidth!! I mean. Everybody’s got their own kink I guess. These next three recs are from Dreamwidth Q&As.

3. Q&A with eldritcher

Gosh. This is their 15 years in fandom anniversary Q&A. I really love hearing about their writing and fandom experience. They were probably in the rare group of late millenials who got their writing start on older fandom sites. Their writing process!!!! I mean there is process and then there is this! eldritcher is incredibly brilliant and also one of the best writers out there. Their sensitivity + precision is just next level.

I write stories in sets. I've very rarely done one-offs. Sets are easier for me because I think in sets and graphs. When I am interested in a new canon, I make a list of the characters, arrange them on a board with a canon relationship graph, start etching out canon character profiles for the ones I find interesting, identify the closest cluster of other characters my character-of-choice interacts with.

pauraque is my favorite writer in rare ships/rare fandoms and I really, really love the sensitivity in their characterizations. They don’t even write Snape but I am like so 100% sold on everything they write and follow their works in whatever fandom.  Their discussion about their writing process is my all time fav. The detail and the clear thinking in their answers is just next level.

I always try to figure out how each character feels about the other and what they're getting out of the relationship. Especially if I'm stuck or the events of the story feel like they're not flowing naturally, I'll stop and go over in my mind what each character is feeling, what they want, and why they're drawn to the other person. I probably wouldn't spell it out that overtly in the text of the story itself, but as the author I feel like I need to be able to clearly articulate why these characters would get together (no vague stuff like "it just happened" or "it was destiny"—that's only convincing for people who already ship a pairing). If I have that solidly explained in my own mind, it'll show in the story.

Delphi!!!! <3 Delphi wrote Snape/Dumbledore and I became a lifelong fan. I have followed their works in some totally canon blind fandoms, I read their Snape/OMC work which also is the best Snape character study ever. YMMV. Anyway, hero worship is a thing + don't meet your hero is a thing. But definitely zero regrets after getting to do this Q&A with Delphi because they are honestly the best of fandom. I read my first Harry Potter fics between CoS and PoA, on a mailing list for rare book-based fandoms - something that still seems wild to me in retrospect. There was absolutely no sense of it being a phenomenon in the making in those conversations, or even anything particularly notable. Someone just said, "Hey, my kid is reading these stories, and there are some interesting adult characters and a nice sandbox to play in." I remember reading a couple of early Snape/Dumbledore stories before I read the books, as well as a few Percy fics. Hilariously, I also remember a conversation about how maybe there would eventually be some Harry/Ron futurefic, but Snape/Dumbledore would obviously end up being the biggest slash ship for the fandom. I read the first two books then, and I kept on reading whatever fic landed in my inbox, but I wasn't driven to search elsewhere for more at that point.
