Enforced - War Remains Album Review
Thrash metal originated in the early 1980s, giving rise to many different sub-genres over the years. Today, it is considered to be one of the biggest powerhouses of metal. Virginia’s crossover thrash metal crafters, “Enforced,” have recently released their latest record, igniting it with lighter fluid. “War Remains” is the band’s third full-length recording and follows up 2021’s “Kill Grid,”…

Contort reality, distort fallacy, pave my way
Contort reality, resort to malady
This lucid dream lingers onward, indefinitely
I am one
Omnipotent, I am the one
Icarus, I'll touch the sun
- Sun//Eater By Lorna Shore (TW: Loud Deathcore, RIP Headphone Users)
Behind closed eyes you felt everything and nothing all at the same instant. A certain warmth spreading throughout your insides, your nerve endings on fire, as your skin felt cold with evaporating sweat. Your muscles were on the verge of collapsing whereas your mind was nothing but a blank canvas. Complete and utter tabula rasa. Not a single thought jumping through endlessly firing synapses, only feelings left and nearly drowning in physical sensations you were.
"Hey!", Kappa's stern voice called out to you, but what eventually brought you really back was him pinching down hard on your nipple between thumb and index finger, "You better look at me when I fuck you!"
With yet another hard thrust, he forced himself inside of you until he filled you up to a point where the pressure between your legs threatened to cover up the sharp pain emitting from your brutalized nippel. His hip bones slapped against the probably already bruised insides of your exhausted thighs, pulling a pained mewl out of your mouth while you flinched underneath him.
Out of reflex and instinct looking at Kappa was the last thing your body intended on doing right now, instead, you turned your face to the side, biting down hard on your bottom lip as your shaky hands desperately tried to hold on to his back, nails inevitably digging into his skin.
"Do I really need to make you look at me while I make you cum once more, slut?" He groaned against the shell of your ear, his voice cutting right through you.
"No, please.." You heard yourself whimper out, sucking in the air between clenched teeth.
"No, what?" Kappa squeezed your nipple again, this time even more recklessly.
"Ouw, you hurt me!" Stating the obvious earned you nothing but a third hard pinch.
"I don't want to hear you whining, bitch, I want an answer!" He pushed, the tip of his nose nearly touching your earlobe as he bottomed out of your sore cunt only to hammer himself back into it right away.
"I can't cum again, please. Please!" Just at the mere thought of having another orgasm forced out of your body, you felt hot tears pricking at your lower lash line, pooling around the tear duct to eventually run down over the bridge of your nose.
"Oh, I'm afraid you don't exactly have a say in this. Now be a good, little whore for me and look at me!" You felt how he pulled his face away from you, his strikingly blue eyes looking down at you, filled with expectation and cruel amusement.
It took everything in you to work against your instincts, to push through the burning shame coloring your cheeks in a deep red and turn your head towards him with open eyes.
"There, there…let me have a good look at that fucked out expression on your face. It's so hard for you to think right now, no?" He mocked with a sardonic grin on his lips.
"Don't worry, you won't have to. I'll just use you a little longer." His hand wandered from your nipple up to your neck, his fingers stroking over your pulse point in crude admiration before he wrapped his palm around your neck, squeezing down just a little harder with every roll of his hips against yours.
With now restricted airflow l you lost the last bit of bodily integrity to him, aimless eyes losing their focus, left to stare holes into the air as Kappa pounded you into the damp mattress underneath your back.
You barely noticed how your body started to act on it's own, disobeying your mental sentiency as your cunt started clenching around his cock. Pressure building, pulling and tugging at your walls until all the tension came crumbling down in a wash of involuntary orgasmic contractions.
You were hardly present enough to take notice of it but Kappa above you most certainly did and even more so did his body.
Hissing curses into the thick and humid air, he let his pace falter, allowing himself the release after what probably have been hours of pushing you over the edge again and again. With one final thrust, he buried his cock impossibly deep inside of you, his cum flooding your insides in hot spurts as a deep, guttural groan echoed in your ears.
Kappa's hand was off your throat immediately afterwards, uncovering an already forming bruise all around.
As soon as he made sure that your ribcage was moving up and down, your lungs filling with air as they should, he grabbed you gently by the shoulder, turning your body towards his as he let himself sink down right nicht to you. With both arms wrapped tightly around your shaking form, he clutched you against his chest.
"You did so well, babe. It's okay now, it's over. I promise." Kappa whispered against your forehead, his fingertips caressing your shoulders.
"Do you want to cry? It's okay if you want to, I was really mean this time." You felt his lips against your skin, soft and loving.
You heard and felt yourself sobbing and sniffling into his chest before your mind even had the faint chance of catching on to it. Somehow, in some twisted way it felt good.
Cathartic.
"It's okay.", He softly petted your head and toyed with sweaty strands of your hair, "I'm here and I'll hold you."

You got some good taste in music--you mind sharing an OC playlist or more? 👀
Hi thank you so much! id love to share a couple playlists and i appreciate you asking :D music is a big special interest of mine and i don't get to show these off too much! (these are all on spotify btw!) Also! Apologies for taking a while! I took the time to clean some of these up while i was at it :)
here's the oc playlist ive had for the longest of all of them for my oc Axel! (heres a link to his toyhou.se page if u want to learn a bit more about him or see art that's not uploaded to tumblr! <3) It's full of mainly metal/punk aligned subgenres like emo, numetal, post-hardcore, punk rock, metalcore, and some hiphop and other stuff sprinkled in! a bunch of them are sad-ish but theres also some fun ones in there! i dont know how to explain the kind of energy this playlist has but its very him LOL half fun half sad.
Here's another playlist for my oc James!! (toyhou.se link) axels older brother! It's got heavier metal stuff in there than the last one. It may not be everyone's taste, but, its got deathcore/death metal, black metal, hardcore, some slam even. But its also got some numetal, some 2000's emo, and romantic/cute songs in there that are pretty much the complete opposite vibe to the other songs lmfao. it's also got that love you to death pallbearer song i mentioned before! the vibes are very "metalhead older sibling with a soft side"
And here's the last one for today!! For my oc Griffith! (toyhou.se link) He's a horror character based in the late 80s early 90s and i think his playlist more or less reflects that! Its full of 80s/90s metal and classics, atmospheric stuff (some metal, but various genres), some goth adjacent stuff, some more intense kinda industrial electronic, and some oldies! It's quite hard to explain the genres of music in griffith's playlist because there's a lot but what i've listed makes up the majority i'd say. His playlist very much gives off traumatized angry and in love lmaoo
these are just my favourite three but i've got a bunch more! including ones more hiphop or edm based hehe

A Night of Artistic Aggression at Empire Control Room & Garage
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(top left & top middle: Alluvial / top right & bottom left: Left To Suffer / bottom right: Reflections)
Welcome! Get ready to witness the ultimate sonic onslaught as Alluvial, Reflections, and Left To Suffer brought their unbridled fury to Empire Control Room & Garage on 2/2/24! In this post, we'll delve into the electrifying experience that was present at this metal show, exploring the venue, lineup, and the raw energy that defined this show’s personality.
As you step into the Empire Control Room & Garage in the heart of Austin, you are immediately enveloped in an electric atmosphere pulsating with the heartbeat of the city's live music scene. The venue seamlessly blends an industrial aesthetic with a hint of retro charm, creating a space that feels both edgy and inviting. All of these aspects combined with an amped crowd and a positively metal line-up made for a truly fantastic night.
Alluvial, the metal deathcore juggernaut and first performance of the night, stands at the forefront of the genre. Delivering an auditory assault that combines technical prowess with unbridled intensity, the group was formed as a collaborative project between guitarist Keith Merrow and guitarist/producer Wes Hauch. Alluvial has carved its niche in the metal landscape with a distinctive sonic identity. With the combined talents of Kevin Muller, Wes Hauch, Tim Walker, and Zach Dean they provided a sinister sound filled to the brim with unrelenting aggression and melodic resonance that added a haunting beauty to their set that did not disappoint.
Reflections, the metal deathcore architects, and the night's second performance constructed a signature sound that transcends the boundaries of the genre. Blending technical precision, emotional intensity, and commitment to breaking new ground in their genre, Reflections has earned a spot amongst some of the biggest players in the metal landscape. The visceral journey Reflections set brought the audience through was one of lyrical profoundness and sonic innovation that showcased the group's signature evolving discography and commitment to growth and exploration.
Left To Suffer, masterminds of sonic brutality and the night's third performance, strived to and delivered a deathcore experience that left concertgoers wanting more. Characterized by authentically raw performances and intense, guttural vocals, Left To Suffer stands tall in the genre ready to pummel their listeners into submission. Taylor Barber’s primal screams conveyed a sense of intensity adding to the night’s already brutal nature. Still, the band's vocal prowess served as a powerful instrument in amplifying the emotional impact of their set.
Unfortunately, due to inclement weather conditions and with the venue that was utilized being partially outdoors the show was delayed. Because of this, I was unable to capture the headlining act Veil of Maya as they played much later after the delay was lifted.
Overall, the combination of these three powerhouse bands, the energetic crowd, and the unique atmosphere of the Empire Control Room & Garage made for a truly fantastic metal show experience.

My favorite albums of 2022 (Part 1)
2022 was a year of changes for me. I graduated High School in the spring, and went to college (SUNY Purchase) in the fall, meeting tons new people and discovering myself.
There was a ton of great music to go along with it it too.
Blackbraid - Blackbraid I
U.S.
August 26, 2022
Blistering Atmospheric Black Metal with a theme of Indigenous Peoples who live in the Adirondacks. The riffs are great and catchy, vocals understandable, interlude tracks are beautiful. Great musicianship.
Favorite Track - Barefoot Ghost Dance on the Blood Soaked Soil
Bloodywood - Rakshak
India
February 18, 2022
Indian Folk mixed with Nu-Metal. Tracks switch between angry protest tracks and tracks about mental heath. The folk influences set this band apart from most other Nu-Metal, and are so intertwined the band wouldn’t be the same without it.
Favorite Track - Chakh Le
Chat Pile - God’s Country
U.S.
July 29, 2022
Sludge metal with vocals that feel very deranged. A perfect soundtrack to this late capitalist hellscape, with great riffs, pounding drums, and amazing atmosphere.
Favorite Track - Why
Death Island - Aeons of Carnage
U.S.
October 12, 2022
Melodic Death Metal band from my area, formed at the college I go to. With a unique Blackened Death sound with lyrical themes taking from all over, the dual vocalists are fun to listen to. I’m excited to hear more.
Favorite Track - Wolves Are A Feasting
Froglord - Army of Frogs
U.K.
November 4, 2022
Gimmick sludge metal about a kaiju Frog? The best Froglord album ever with catchy hooks and a fun metaplot? Proceeds going to save the frogs? Count me in. A fun album. (Fun fact: Army is the noun used to describe a group of frogs in science)
Favorite Track - Army of Frogs
Kanonenfieber - Yankee Division
Germany
March 23, 2022
The follow up to 2021’s amazing debut, this EP kicks serious ass with heavier melodic songs. The late Trevor Strnard of The Black Dahlia Murder is featured, and it’s just great musicianship.
Favorite Track - The Yankee Division March
Kanonenfieber - Der Fusilier
Germany
November 19, 2022
The second EP of this year, this is a concept EP about a single German soldier, featuring one of Kanonenfieber’s saddest songs. This has solidified the band as more than just a one off success.
Favorite Track - Der Fusilier II
Lorna Shore - Pain Remains
U.S.
October 14, 2022
The first full-length featuring Will Ramos, he solidifies himself as the growling GOAT with emotional tunes and soaring choruses. The symphonic elements make this deathcore great. The breakdowns are brutal af.
Favorite Track - Sun//Eater
Non Est Deus - Impious
Germany
March 4,2022
From the guy behind Kanonenfieber, his first project’s third album is awesome, with catchy evil riffs and an anti-Christian theme. The cover art is amazing, and the music just as good. More traditional in it’s black metal, it’s still great musicianship.
Favorite Track - Hexenwahn
Sakis Tolis - Among the Fires of Hell
Greece
March 22, 2022
From the frontman of legendary Black Metal band Rotting Christ comes an emotional album about the soul through the lens of Satan. It sounds like 2000s Rotting Christ, but with a different message, and just as good atmosphere. My favorite track has also made me cry.
Favorite Track - The Dawn of a New Age

Lorna Shore - Pain Remains It’s strange how one’s music taste can change so dramatically. I used to listen to a lot of deathcore up until just a few years ago, but these days, I hardly listen to it at all. I love metalcore, post-hardcore, and stuff like that, but a lot of the newer deathcore bands just don’t do anything for me. I haven’t heard too many that I really, really like, but I think part of my issue with modern deathcore is that good songwriting has kind of taken a backseat to just being brutal and heavy. I mean, I like that, but I also want to hear a competent song, not how heavy a band can be. That’s fine, and everything, but can you write a good song on top of that? I haven’t heard a lot of deathcore bands that can write songs, but there are a few that step outside the box, and New Jersey outfit Lorna Shore is one of those bands. I got acquainted with this band a handful of years ago, back when they released 2017′s Flesh Coffin. It was their second album, and it was a pretty damn good blackened deathcore album. Nothing special, but you could tell these guys had some unique ideas up their sleeves. Fast forward to 2019, and on the cusp of third album, Immortal, that was due in January of 2020, second vocalist CJ McCreery was fired from the band due to a lot of disturbing allegations, and it almost seemed like the band’s future was in limbo for awhile. That is, until they announced their new vocalist, William Ramos, who was rather prolific in the deathcore scene by that point, known for his vocal covers, as well as being in the band A Wake In Providence, among others. While he had some big shoes to fill, especially when their first vocalist was Tom Barber, now of Chelsea Grin, but Ramos proved himself just fine on their last EP, 2021′s And I Return To Nothingness. I never listened to that, but I heard a lot of great things about it. I just haven’t really listened to deathcore in so long, and I just wasn’t interesting, so I never bothered with it, but when I saw that his debut album with the band, Pain Remains, was about to be released, I thought I’d check it out, because it would be really interesting to hear a full-length project with him. At the time of writing this, I’ve given the album a couple of listens, and I don’t know how I feel about it, at least in a general sense. I’ve got plenty of thoughts on it, but this is a pretty overwhelming album, and I don’t mean that in a particularly good way, either. This record is an hour long, and that’s already pushing it, but there are hardly any breaks or moments to breathe in this thing. It’s an hour of nonstop symphonic blackened deathcore, and my god, it’s way too long. This album does not need to be an hour. Most albums don’t, but I can forgive it when the album actually has a lot of cool ideas. This album has a few ideas, and that’s it. My biggest issue with this album is that it’s so repetitive, it makes it such a slog to get through. Every song sounds exactly the same. Maybe they don’t sound the same in terms of their structure, but the overall sound is intact -- generic deathcore breakdowns, brutal vocals, blackened deathcore riffs on top of symphonic elements, and spooky and creepy atmosphere that lingers over the album. It’s all the same few elements just packaged in a different way throughout the album’s runtime, and it gets old quickly. The thing is, however, the songs on their own are awesome. I would gladly listen to these songs on their own, but because they all sound like one another, what’s the point of listening to the whole album? I really can’t get into it, and it’s a bummer, because I really wanted to listen to a deathcore album I really liked. Hell, the reason I don’t really like it is nothing to do with the music itself, or the performances. Everyone sounds great, but it’s that their sound is so repetitive, it hurts. I don’t want to listen to an hour of the same song, just redone 12 times. It’s really annoying, especially when their sound is as overwhelming or intense as it is. This is a slog to get through, and not because it’s bad, but there’s so much going on and it all sounds the same. I wish I liked this more, I really do, but this album tested my patience really badly. Ramos is a great addition to the band, though, so that’s the best part of this record. His vocals are killer stuff, but it’s just the music around him is so repetitive and overwhelming, it’s really hard to sink your teeth into it. I wish I liked it more, because in theory, this could be an album of the year contender. Maybe for a lot of people, it will be, and more power to you if it is. It’s a good album, but I feel like you have to really love this band, or deathcore itself, to really love this album. I wish I liked it more than I did, but for what it’s worth, it’s a good album, despite the major issues I have with it. Again, it’s nothing to do with the music itself, it’s more so its lack of ideas and overwhelming sound that just didn’t click with me at all.

Godthrymm's 'Distortions': Evocative British Doom Review
Photo by Frank Ralph In 2020, Godthrymm dropped their debut album Reflections, a massive slab of proper doom worthy of a spot among the genre’s giants. With the bar already set high, the band returns in 2023 with their second full-length, Distortions, the next album in their Visions trilogy.
