Office listening gear for the day: Nuforce NE800M ($61) + Chord Mojo + Macbook Air. Listening to Aarons Parks' Karma from the Invisible Cinema album. These iems I have ranted and raved about in a few posts. And this will continue I'm sure. There's a lot going on in the Karma number. Fast bass lines, frenetic piano, frenzied drum riffs and chilled guitar. There are bits where the musicians are almost chasing each other. NE800M catches it all beautifully, every detail. The fast bass lines are captured with agility with every breath and flutter of strings intact between notes. Instrument resolution is clinical whilst remaining musical. The Pace Report: "The Science of Producing" The Terri Lyne Carrington Interview

Welcome to this first edition of The Pace Report of 2017. Drummer, composer, producer and educator Terri Lyne Carrington recently performed at this year's 2017 New York City Winter Jazz Festival debuting with her new group, Social Science. This new ensemble features Aaron Parks on keys, Matt Stevens on guitar, Morgan Guerin on Saxophone and Bass, Nadia Washington on vocals, and DJ Val on Turntables.

Terri is a Three-Time Grammy Award-winning musician best known for her Mosaic Projects as well as legacy as one of the most requested and recorded drummers in jazz and R & B backing the likes of Pharoah Sanders, James Moody, Joe Sample, Al Jarreau, George Duke, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Dianne Reeves, and Stan Getz.

I had the honor to speak with Terri about her new group, her role as teacher and instructor, and what it takes to become a great record producer.
