Calling Canterbury the home of rimming (or "the home of the chocolate smooch") is an in-joke from when we went to visit Canterbury during first year of uni.

BUT WHY, YOU ASK?

Chaucer's Canterbury Tales (which, admittedly, happen on the road between London and Canterbury, not in the city itself, but whatever) features The Miller's Tale.

There's a bunch of different things that happen in The Miller's Tale, but for our purposes the key bit is this. Warning - this does, I guess, count as SA, but this is a story told for gross-out reasons by drunken idiot. The point is that its crass and terrible.

Anyway!

Alisoun, who has a husband but is being wooed by two other dudes anyway, is sick of Absolon (guy #2) hanging out under her window, singing to him, and begging her for a kiss. At the climax of the poem, he's outside asking for a kiss, so she sticks her arse out of the window and he kisses her right on the bumhole. With relish.

Here's the key bit of the poem, and a Harvard translation:

Original: And at the wyndow out she putte hir hole and Absolon, hym fil no bet ne wers but with his mouth he kiste hir naked ers ful savourly, er he were war of this. Abak he stirte, and thoughte it was amys, For wel he wiste a womman hath no berd.

Translation into modern English: And at the window out she put her hole, and Absolon, to him it happened no better nor worse, but with his mouth he kissed her naked ass with great relish, before he was aware of this. Back he jumped, and thought it was amiss, for well he knew a woman has no beard.

What really got me was the ful savourly part. And the part where Chaucer specifies that it's her hole, not just her bum or her bumcheek. Because of this delightful tale, we started to call Canterbury the home of rimming. Look, we were young and very, very silly.

Anyway! There we go. Go forth with this knowledge, and kiss people's buttholes ful savourly 🍑

District X was the official title for the region; however, the region was more commonly referred to as Mutant Town

With the surge in Manhattan’s mutant population, combined with widespread prejudice from ordinary humans, led to the formation of a distinct mutant community in a rundown section of the city. located in Alphabet City within the East Village. Officially designated as District X, the area was more commonly known as Mutant Town.

Many residents bore physical mutations that made it impossible for them to integrate into broader human society. Additionally, a significant underground population lived in tunnels beneath the neighborhood, reminiscent of the Morlocks or the Tunnel Rats of earlier years.

Much like other ethnic enclaves in New York City—such as Chinatown, Harlem, Little Italy, and Greenwich Village—Mutant Town became a refuge for its marginalized inhabitants. Over time, the neighborhood became predominantly mutant, though some humans also resided there.

Life in Mutant Town was marked by poverty, overcrowding, and high levels of crime, including drug use, prostitution, burglary, and ongoing gang conflicts. At one point, it was described as having the highest unemployment and illiteracy rates in the country, as well as severe overcrowding rivaled only by Los Angeles.

Frankie Zapruder Aka Filthy Frankie: Mobster/crimelord main rival of Daniel Kaufman and got involved in a gang war with him over the mutant Toad Boy, whose secretions were a highly addictive drug.Powers: Mood Odor: Zapruder gives off a different odor depending on his feelings. For example when happy he smelled nice and when angry or nervous he smelled bad, at many times to the point where those around it would puke.

Daniel Kaufman aka:"Shakey":Far more ruthless than his rival, Daniel is the owner of the nightclubs Daniel's Inferno and Wildkat Klub. The later was partly full of working girls paying back loans from him. He was nicknamed "Shaky" due to his mutant powers. His bodyguard Mister Punch acted as his 'punching bag' during these episodes because he had no pain receptors.

Tarquin Berdeaux AKA Toad Boy:Not to be confused with Toad of the mutant Brotherhood,Toad Boy, a sluggish video game addict, possessed a unique ability—his body excreted a toxic substance that came to be known as "Toad Juice." After being kidnapped, his toxin was illegally sold as a hallucinogen. With the help of Absolon Mercator, Tarquin was ultimately transformed back into a normal boy

Powers:The actual nature of Tarquin's topical neurotoxin seemed to have somewhat varied effects. While generally mutants seemed to suffer severe addiction, they were able to recover from its effects if cut off. Human users, on the other hand, were shown to have undergone rapid random mutation, causing violent deaths. Tarquin's mother, however, became obsessively addicted to her son's secretions with no mention of any discreet mutation. This could imply that the lethal side effects were actually a result of the way in which the drugs were processed for street sale, as Tarquin's mother was really the only person known to absorb Tarquin's poison naturally through skin contact.

I finally got creative again thanks to a Creative Writing course at my university – and my boy Gregory finally returned to me 😂

A dark premonition settled in Ares' stomach as he watched the Captain. Absolon fought his way through the cult's followers, their blood leaving unrecognizable stains on their robes whenever the Captain's blade struck them. (Huh, maybe that’s why their robes were that particular shade of red, Ares thought to his own irritation.) The dull glow of the ritual circle shifted to violet, and the shadows seemed to gather over the drawn symbols.

"Ares, damn it! Move already, you ox!" Gregory ducked under a frenzied cultist and Ares instinctively introduced the man to the hilt of his sword, his movements more reflex than conscious decision.

"Captain!" he shouted again over the noise of the battle and an unsettling deep tone, like a deep, long-drawn bell. (Ares preferred not to think about too much for now.) (It came from the ritual circle. He was certain of that. The thing forming there was almost ready.) "We need to get out of here!"

(We had to kill a character. It killed me.)

Arum has learned patience, in his time as a trophy. He knows what he wants even before the moment Damien leaves the room, but he bites his tongue, he curls his tail around his body, he settles and resettles on his uncomfortable stone, he ignores the intervening guards as they march their thoughtless circles past him, and he waits.

(Nothing to be gained from drawing further attention to Damien's shifts. Cannot connect what Arum intends to do to Damien at all, if possible.)

Difficult to keep track of time, down here, but- Arum knows he should be reasonably safe when the shift after Damien's trades off with next. They seem to have split the day into thirds, so... he should be as far from Damien, for the sake of association, as it is possible to be.

He makes sure that he has the Janus Beast's attention, aiming his thoughts towards it until it meets his eye, until it grins that teeth-and-acid grin, waits until the guard is far enough away not to hear, and then he begins to speak to it.

i also love this campaign so much because i get to draw so much fun clothing/jewelry. the fashion of Obsidia is like a blend of north and west african styles, because i am drawing a lot of inspo from morocco and medieval islamic dress, but also i love the traditional dress of my own roots in Ghana, so i've been drawing a lot from there as well (hence the kente-adjacent cloth)
