is wind ever exposed to some of the propaganda against his kind in legend's time? does it make him self conscious?
also did the mer aquil war happen at all in the 3rd timeline?
Hello! These are excellent questions, thank you!
Under the cut because long.
Wind… is a bit of a complicated case, I think! He grew up in the middle of a war, but was sheltered from any kind of violence or aggression- he lived amongst people (Mer and Aquili alike) who wanted peace, on a little island full of refugees. He doesn’t even realize that he’s CURRENTLY living with propaganda. He’s CURRENTLY hiding, and has been ever since he was a baby.
The Aquili on Outset are called Sea Monsters. They always have been- Wind didn’t even know that his people were called Aquili until he met Legend. But the term was never used out of malice- it was just that no one knew any better. It was a piece of Mer propaganda that stuck, and at least on their little island of peacekeepers, the Aquili never knew anything else.
(I must say that they were never treated poorly by the Mer- or by anyone else, for that matter. Calling themselves Sea Monsters had nothing to do with their value as citizens of Outset and they were not looked down upon at all. “Sea Monster” was an accepted term… but then again, they don’t knew their origins. If they did, they’d probably be upset to be called monsters).
Wind knows not to go too deep into the ocean- not to swim out too far. Even if he doesn’t realize it, he lives in fear of the Mer- of his own people- that still reside beneath the waves. Everyone on Outset maintains a “Hylian” form to blend in when travelers visit their island- no one knows that they aren’t “normal” people. He’s hiding every single day of his life. And he doesn’t even realize it.
I say all of this because I want to make it clear that Wind DOES face the consequences of this war. He’s been dealing with it under the table for his entire life, but that doesn’t make him equipped to handle it when he comes face to face with Legend- who hates him for what he is, for what his people had done to him in an entirely different timeline. Or, in the War of Eras, Ravio- who fears him for the monster he has not become.
Wind has lived his whole life in acceptance of who he is. He’s comfortable in his own skin no matter what form he takes, “Hylian” or Aquili. He switches between the two all the time, he thinks it’s fun. And he likes getting a reaction out of others.
That… changed. When he met Legend. As his adventure with the Cryptid Chain continues and he learns more about the conflict (from Legend’s perspective), he becomes less and less comfortable in his Aquili form. As Legend gives him the cold shoulder and avoids him, Wind starts to get more and more self conscious, until he appears as “Hylian” literally every minute of every day. Legend… has some things to work on, let’s just say.
Since the Cryptid Chain will never go underwater, they are unlikely to come across any Mer outside of Outset. The Zora in Legend’s era might cause some problems for Wind, but other than that, the only prejudice he’d face is from Legend (and Ravio, maybe, but Ravio isn’t nearly as bitter).
Now, I don’t think it’s entirely fair to call Legend a bad person for this. He’s been through a lot, and he’s suffered at the hands of the Aquili scavengers in his own era. But is it right for him to take that out on Wind? Absolutely not. And this tension between them doesn’t last long- it’s really really hard to hate Wind. Also… Legend’s pretty bitter towards literally everyone. So really, it’s more of a Legend issue than a Wind issue.
And LASTLY, yes, the war happens in all of the timelines! It’s just that unless there are Mer and Aquili from the Child Era (there aren’t any in my story), you’re not gonna be hearing about it! The Zora stay OUT of it, and they defend their waters from Mer and Aquili both, wanting the conflict as far from their Domain as possible.
I hope this answered your question? I know I rambled way too long haha.

Lesbian Death Glare
Lesbian Death Glare, Dot Park, 2022
There was a wave of extremely queer games in the late '10s and early dicketies. Thirsty Sword Lesbians is the best-known, but you also have Dungeon Bitches, This Party Sucks, Violet the Menace, Lichcraft, etc. Lesbian Death Glare goes the "Eye Beams" path that has not, perhaps, been as well-trod as some others. It's also an in-joke. (References for those who aren't familiar: Lesbian Bed Death, Lesbian Death Bed)
Your characters are hella gay lesbians who were caught in the blast of a ghost-rock gamma bomb and all gained weird mutations. None of them are physically obvious. They all leave minor traces on your bodies (eyes that change color, hair that is always moving a little, a spine that sticks out just a little) but they're hard to spot at first. Each of you has a high-side-effect superpower. For example: the titular death glare that also partially calcifies people and things caught behind the target. Flight sprouts wings of blue fire that scorch people near you unless you're holding them tight. A painful deafening shout, a force field that slowly locks you in place, a light that everyone has to fight to avoid looking at. I feel like there's some good allegory here.
Chargen is mostly pick-lists. You could roll a character in 10 minutes, counting the time it takes you to fill in the character sheet. Players are encouraged to come up with new skills and powers with their GM's assistance.
The game uses a simple but somewhat unusual die-step system. In your weak point you roll 1d4. For most things you roll 2d6 and take the highest. Your highest normal stat or a weaker superpower rolls 3d8 take the highest. A standard superpower rolls 4d10 take the highest. When you get a bonus you can either roll an extra die or step up a die to the next-highest level, and you can pick up multiple bonuses without much trouble. High-level abilities have pretty serious dominance but can still occasionally lose.
What the game lacks compared to most of its kin is a sense of place. There isn't much for setting here, and the art is too scattered to really be effective at conveying a feel. It doesn't have the high-concept action of TSL or the raw brutality of Dungeon Bitches. That's a shame, because I love the basic idea of superpowers that are metaphors for femininity and/or queer experiences and/or just plain human emotional nature.
Dot Park is working on LDG2, which addresses those issues. The rules are staying mostly the same, but she has an artist picked out (after firing the first one for using generative AI), the setting is getting more detail, she's writing some play advice... and until then the original game is offline. Fingers crossed we get to see it soon.

Hey, I'm off Twitter so I have no idea why the JRWI fandom is having discourse about grizzly again. Can you explain the situation?
Grizzly used aave stupidly & insensitivity in a now deleted tweet. He did this after receiving months of counseling on how to deal with poc better in JRWI for free. Basically what he always does, silly white boy does something ignorant 🙃
This post has the tweets all in em: https://www.tumblr.com/emizeltucker/734816046256701440/click-to-see-the-first-image-in-full-cancel-your

alright so i’m ONLY posting these for context and if y’all don’t behave i’m turning off reblogs/comments and deleting this post, but on the left is con’s tweet that started the discourse and on the right is his apology. his original tweet is making a joke of a racist stereotype abt colombians and cocaine. his account is deleted now. i’m not here to cancel or excuse con, i’m just posting this for ppl who have no idea what everyone’s yelling about
and hey!! @ white fans!!! it is NOT OUR PLACE to forgive con OR weigh in on this. and it is ESPECIALLY not our place to speak over poc/latine fans abt this. idc if you think his apology is genuine or if it’s shit, that’s not our place to decide. i’m only putting this here so ppl at least know what’s going on but for the LOVE of god can we please be normal about this.
