He is Legend had been low-key plying their trade over four records on tiny labels before Spinefarm gave them a slightly larger platform for few, and while the band’s approach hadn’t altered significantly, “Air Raid” presented greater clarity of focus thanks to the bigger budget supporting Adam “Nolly” Getgood’s mix.  Schuylar Croom had likewise arguably matured as a vocalist, more seamlessly transitioning between haunting clean humming groans to ornery shrieking, as the music ebbed and flowed.  In many ways the band had been working towards this moment, homing their chops over a series of pleasurable albeit choppy records to show how much more they could accomplish if they were given just a little more to work with.

Evergrey veröffentlichen Theory Of Emptiness im Juni

Nach mehr als 30 Jahren, in denen Evergrey die Geschichte des Progressive Metal geprägt haben, erheben sie sich erneut und kündigen die Veröffentlichung ihres vierzehnten Studioalbums "Theories of Emptiness" an, das am 7. Juni 2024 über Napalm Records erscheinen wird. Dieses neue Kapitel beginnt mit der fesselnden neuen Single "Falling From the Sun", die schwere Riffs mit eingängigen Refrains und eindringlichen, melancholischen Texten kombiniert und als Fortsetzung von "Ominous" fungiert - einem Ausschnitt aus ihrem weltweit in den Charts platzierten letzten Album "A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament)". Unter der Leitung des unverwechselbaren Gründers, Sängers und Gitarristen Tom S. Englund und Jonas Ekdahl produziert und von Adam "Nolly" Getgood (ex-Periphery) abgemischt, der von Anfang an eng mit der Band zusammenarbeitete, um das gesamte Klangprofil des Albums lebendig zu gestalten. Thomas "Plec" Johansson (Soilwork, The Night Flight Orchestra, Onslaught, The Gems, Eleine und viele mehr) rundete die Produktion des Albums ab und übernahm das Mastering. "Theories of Emptiness" folgt auf den chartstürmenden und von der Kritik gefeierten Vorgänger "A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament)" aus dem Jahr 2022, der weltweit auf Platz 3 in Schweden (Metal) in die Charts einstieg, in den USA auf Platz 5 der Top New Artist Albums Charts landete, in Finnland auf Platz 7 und in Deutschland auf Platz 12. "Für uns steht die Progression an erster Stelle", sagt Tom S. Englund über das elf Titel umfassende Werk"Theories of Emptiness". "Wir sind bestrebt, dass unsere Musik innovativ bleibt und nicht stagniert. Mit jedem Album streben wir danach, etwas Neues einzuführen - einen einzigartigen Geschmack, eine andere Tonart oder einen anderen Akkord, neue Stimmen in unseren Texten oder innovative Produktionstechniken". In der Tat wurde kein Stein auf dem anderen gelassen. Die Tracks sind so angelegt, dass sie sich gegenseitig ausgleichen: von den aggressiven Tönen von "Misfortune", die im Kontrast zur unbeschwerten Eröffnung von "To Become Someone Else" stehen, bis zur Ballade "Ghost of My Hero", die in die wütenden Riffs von "We Are the North" übergeht. Der Album-Opener "Falling From the Sun" und "Say" verweben Härte mit hypnotisierenden Keyboards und unvorhersehbaren Instrumentalparts, wie sie auch auf "The Night Within" zu hören sind. Bei "Cold Dreams" wird Englunds markante Stimme von Jonas Renkse von den schwedischen Metal-Ikonen Katatonia begleitet, der den Song mit einer herausragenden Performance untermalt, die eine weitere intensive Facette des Albums unterstreicht. Darüber hinaus sorgt Englunds Tochter Salina für satte Backing Vocals, die die Dynamik des Songs noch verstärken. Theories of Emptiness" endet mit einer ruhigen Note und zeigt genau, was Leere bedeutet, zuerst mit dem eindringlichen "Our Way Through Silence" und dann mit "A Theory of Emptiness", das uns mit zaghaftem Piano dazu bringt, unsere innersten Gefühle zu rationalisieren. Theories of Emptiness" navigiert durch dunkle und helle Gefilde und nimmt den Hörer mit auf eine sorgfältig ausbalancierte Achterbahnfahrt, die den sich ständig weiterentwickelnden Sound von Evergrey im Jahr 2024 und darüber hinaus vorstellt. High Gain Amp Sim Comparison - Archetype Plini & Nolly vs. free Amped Roots

It's amazing how good amp sims are getting these days! Here's a comparison of high gain amp simulation plugins from Neural DSP Archetype Plini, Neural DSP Archetype Nolly  & ML Sound Lab Amped Roots (free 5034 Fluff). In this video you can hear the plugins once in a mix and then as an isolated guitar track. It also shows the graphical user interfaces, which are very clear and easy to use. I'll put timestamps in the comment section for fast access to each section - this helps for a back-to-back comparison. I used one amp and the included IRs of each plugin. A tubescreamer set to my taste is in front of the presets as the only pre effect. The guitar tones are dry; no effects such as delay or reverb. Every pass uses an identical DI track of the guitar. Which one do you like the best? Let me know in the comments! My guitar is a 7 string Musicman JP7 modified with DiMarzio Illuminator replacement pickups.
