Happy Pride Month y'all!

This scene from The Unstoppable Wasp (2018) #6 by @jeremywhitley & Alti Firmansyah teaches us all a very important lesson to remember:

NEVER be a homophobic asshat to your daughter! Because you might end up pissing off her girlfriend who coincidentally also happens to be a trained assassin!

Shay and Ying's relationship was such a beautiful and heartwarming aspect of Unstoppable Wasp!

Funnily enough, back when I used to be on Twitter, @jeremywhitley himself liked and quoted my tweet about this scene, stating the following:

"Remember: Sometimes your gay daughter's girlfriend is also a murder scientist. Just one more in a long list of good reasons not to be homophobic. Brought to you by 'The Unstoppable Wasp.'"

This book truly was a treasure and its a darn shame that it only lasted for 18-issues. I truly hope Marvel gives us more adventures with Nadia Van Dyne and the Agents of G.I.R.L. in the future!

One of my favourite things about Midnight Suns has always been the references to various characters from across the Marvel universe. I love how fleshed out the world feels.

And with Storm’s release, they’ve added two more Hero Ops that seem incredibly targeted to my interests specifically! Hero Op spoilers and thoughts beneath the cut.

Okay! So. These are two of the Agents of G.I.R.L. from the Unstoppable Wasp!!! With only around 17 Earth-616 appearances each, it’s wild to see them mentioned in a project as high-profile like this and I low-key spent a lot of time just staring at my screen in shock when I first saw them in the game.

Interesting, this makes it sound like Nadia hasn’t yet founded the Agents of G.I.R.L. in this universe. Given how Hank Pym is still a human and not fused with Ultron in the game, I do wonder how Nadia’s immigration process went and how she ended up with the last name “Van Dyne.” The way Magik and Carol discuss him makes it sound like Hank isn’t a particularly beloved figure in the superhero community, so maybe she just came to America, read the “Controversies” section on his Wikipedia page and went “Y’know, maybe I’ll talk to Janet instead” lmao.

For now, Bobbi’s dipping her foot into a lot of different pots. She’s helping Nadia mentor G.I.R.L. members, serving as an Agent of Wakanda and staying as a reserve on the Daughters of Liberty roster should they ever form again. Bobbi’s personal life continues to be all over the place, but she’s trying her best. Bobbi’s been in the game a long time and has gone through a lot of shit. From S.H.I.E.L.D. to Avenger and with everything in between, she’s done a damn good job keeping her head on. That’s not going to change now.

✗ CLINT BARTON (616) may be Bobbi’s ex-husband, but she’ll always hold love for him. The two have tried to make it work time and time again to no avail. It’s always going to be complicated with Clint, and that’s something Bobbi has learned to accept over the years. She wouldn’t trade their time together, but it would have been nice if there could have been a happily ever after. It’s too bad those don’t exist.

✗ JANET VAN DYNE (616) and Bobbi are long time friends who remain incredibly close. It was through Janet that Bobbi became a mentor for Nadia van Dyne’s G.I.R.L. scientists, and she does so alongside Jan. They’ve been through a lot over the years and it’s always nice to know that there’s someone on your side. Women in the superhero game need to stick together, and Jan is one of the best there is. Bobbi loves her dearly.

✗ LANCE HUNTER (616) is the sometime hook-up of Bobbi. He’s a good guy. A great guy, really, and Bobbi knows she’s jerked him around some. It isn’t anything intentional. She just doesn’t always have herself sorted out and that sometimes bleeds into her personal relationships. At the very least, she knows Lance is someone she can count on no matter what’s happened between them in the past.

✗ AGENTS OF WAKANDA → It’s not S.H.I.E.L.D., and for that Bobbi is grateful. When T’Challa approached her and asked if Bobbi would serve on the Avenger’s backed team she was both surprised and flattered. Life on the support crew keeps Bobbi on her toes, and she enjoys the change of pace from what she was doing before. It also leaves her time to work on other teams -- like G.I.R.L. -- and she’s grateful for the flexibility. So far, it’s been a good fit.

Agents of G.I.R.L headcannons.

- After being introduced to Vine Nadia constantly qoutes it, particularly "Is that allowed" when Ying and Shay are being affectionate.

- Priya has told the others not to let her buy more houseplants, they have never successfully stopped her.

- Taina goes down ramps faster than she's meant to in her wheelchair and has to wait for the others to catch up (Inspired by a friend who moves way faster than me when they're in their wheelchair, and I walk fast)

- They constantly have mini fashion shows and Janet hypes them all up.

- Ying accidentally called Bobbi mom once and she cried.

- Kamala Khan is an honorary member despite not doing much science (to my knowledge of could be wrong)

I feel really bad for Nadia in this scene. Learning that your heroes are not infallible is always rough! Plus, Jeremy Whitley brilliantly lays the groundwork for Nadia’s later bout with bipolar disorder, and Janet’s words here are so powerful!

Also, I love the meta-commentary of how Nadia confirmed the truth about the time Hank Pym struck Janet via the Internet, since in real-life the Internet is primarily where Hank’s infamous reputation is the most talked about.

049. Us Against the World - Agents of G.I.R.L.

I’m really enjoying Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. I’ve jokingly been referring to the “MGCU” (”Moon Girl Cinematic Universe”) for the last few months, usually in the context of discussing characters that I would rather appear in the Moon Girl animated series then in the MCU proper...

That said, uh, Maria Hill of S.H.E.I.L.D. is going to be in the show? Performed by Cobie Smulders, like in the MCU???

It’s just a guest role, of course, but it’s kind of funny to me that this isn’t being advertised as MCU-adjacent if it is going to include MCU cameos? Like, there is a multiverse for a reason. You can just say it’s some other corner of the multiverse that won’t have direct crossovers outside of, like, theme park events...

Though I’ll admit that I am biased and I am really hoping we see less MCU characters as guest heroes and more of the younger (and often more diverse) heroes that haven’t made it into the MCU yet. Specifically, I feel like Nadia Van Dyne / the Wasp and her fellow Agents of G.I.R.L. fit the themes of Moon Girl... almost perfectly?

In the comics, Nadia Van Dyne is a girl genius who escaped the Red Room (the Russian assassin training program that also trained Black Widow) and fled to New York City. Once in New York, she was inspired by Moon Girl and the institutional sexism baked into SHIELD’s list of the smartest people in the world to recruit a bunch of girl geniuses from across New York city to form an all-girl scientist team. In other words, her story is an all-ages superhero story with a focus on encouraging interest in STEM and highlighting the diversity of New York City... just like what MM&DD is setting out to do.

I wouldn’t expect Nadia and G.I.R.L. to be important - the focus is and should remain on Lunella, her family, and her classmates - but I could see an episode happening where Nadia shows up and announces the creation of GIRL to Lunella, they team up for a bit, probably having a conversation about Nadia’s disability (she has bipolar disorder) in the process, and GIRL becomes an off-screen source of intel that Lunella can tap into... and if this show can get Nadia to explicitly acknowledge her asexuality on-screen using the word “asexual,” then everyone involved will earn my undying respect!

Jan and Tony reopen the Avenger Mansion but it’s just a HQ for the teen heroes to be safe and cared for if they need hero help/have a bad home life!! JanTony are the parents/headmaster, Jarvis is the butler and Squirrel Girl is the babysitter/tutor. The old heroes get supervised visits and take “the care and keeping of your mentee” classes
